“We finally came to a deal,” Mier told MLB.com. “I’m glad we came to a conclusion and my (agents) got it done. I’m trying to get out there and play.”
Bonita’s High School’s Jiovanni Mier, the Astros’ top pick and new Million Dollar Kid in the neighborhood, told MLB.com today that he has reached a deal with the Houston Astros, who selected him in the first round and 21st overall in this month’s Major League Baseball amateur draft. Mier reportedly will receive a $1.358 million signing bonus, and will make it official pending a physical, opting to skip his verbal commitment to attend USC. The 6-foot-2 Mier batted .394 with 10 doubles, five homers and 18 RBIs in leading the Bearcats to the Miramonte League title and Division III quarterfinals.
