Workman Fan,

I agree 100% The Lobos upset some teams at the tournament and played really well. I saw some speed out there for those guys and the should fare well in the Montview League. I wouldn't be surprised if they give Azusa and La Puente a run for their money.

Overall the tournament was a good one. I was very impressed with the size and speed of the kids from Santiago and Hart. Workman played everyone straight up beating both Monrovia and Riverside Poly. Overall all of the kids that participated in the tourney walked away learning something. Good luck to all this season.

I could not agree more with putting Rio at Safety. One thing I learned about Rio this weekend is about his aggressiveness. He was pushing and shoving with some big boys with experience. I am convinced Rio can play any position that’s how good of an athlete he is. I also agree with Gonzales, he is just a beast. My other surprise of the weekend is Covina. Like all other parents (you know who you are) I laughed when I saw them. They were undersized in all areas and they were impressive on how they played this weekend. The two finalist came out of their pool and they hung in with every team they faced. Covina offense made some minor mental mistakes. The defense did ok, linebackers looked very soft, they were not fast enough to cover and they were not physical of the line to slow them down. However I found out when we played them that they are all going to be sophomores. That was cool.

Go Amat!

Is the Castaneda Coach any relation to QB Matt Castaneda from Los Altos a few years ago?

julio,

Everything you heard is true. Bobby stepped down about one month ago. You are also right on when it comes to Castanada, he is a joke. LVL is in for a very lone season.

Amat Fan said:

Was pleased with the effort from Amat this weekend. Strong points of the team will be quarterback play from both Mac and Rio. Johnson also looked good catching the ball and giving Amat a much needed deep threat. Anderson also looks good catching the wheel route out of the backfield. Now for the downside. Tierney must have dropped at least a dozen bals on the weekend. Linebacker play is a huge drop off from last year. Davis looked good at safety but the other Casarez looked loss most of the time. Hags should look into moving Rio to safety. Out of the dozen or so games I saw I was most impressed with Gonzalez from Glendora. He single handedly beat Amat. He is simply a beast.

Just Heard a Rumor, Bob Castanada is the Head Coach at Laverne Lutheran, someone please confirm this and what happened to Bobby Godinez. If it is true I hope the school does their homework before they hire this clown. Have them call Western Christian and have them talk to some of the parents. He is a horrible coach.

Thank you Scouting Guru for the South Hills Huskies weekend update. You can obviously tell in your writing who you are and if that's not you then definitely someone on the Huskies staff. The evaluation sounds almost somewhat intelligent but bias and subjective which tells me our local resident (you fill in the blank) typed the self advertising post. You Huskies make us Bulldogs so wanting to "take a bite out of your crimes!" Remember your road to the Finals goes through Cameron Ave. and the Westside!

How did the teams in D and E pool do in the passing league?

Huskies said:

The huskies made it all the way to the final in the 2009 USD passing league tournament... They lost to D-1 Mira Mesa High School, which had very physical and strong athletes on both sides... Their DBs had great size and speed and their WRs were excellent as well... As for S.H. they did a good job, but got a bit tired at the end... A couple of their players were going both days almost the whole day, and seems like it kinda got to them... The S.H. QBs both did great, they both show good accuracy and arm strength... Should be a very exciting year for the huskies...

It's passing league

Bonita, which is one of the better tournaments around. Had a very tough field of football teams out there. With Carson beating C-Santiago as the championship game.

But the people on this blog dismiss that when the focus on one play. I was one of the family friends of the Tartans. And when Glendora and Walnut went at, they went at. Both being physical, and being emotional after big plays. Its unfortunate that one of our players got hurt. But by no means did I see that as intentional. I've been around football for years now and it was two teams battling back and forth.

After the players hit each other, Walnut players ran back to there sideline without even noticing the player was hurt. They weren't hiding, their emotions carried them to the sideline. The tempers flared because it seemed Walnut was celebrating the injury, but in my opinion they weren't celebrating the injury, but the play. But the Walnut coaches brought the team together and explained the situation to the players. After that point I saw no further celebration. Once the players realized someone was hurt they all took a knee respecting the situation.

Glendora was pissed and understandbly so, but don't ruin the game of football because of this. I just saw two teams battling each other and I respect that.

For those saying Walnut will be nothing in pads,
I would say if their "O" & "D" lines are
halfway decent then they will be a force next season, their skill guy's on both sides of the ball had the size & athletic ability to match with any team in the SGV.
Leonard Rohdes is beast of a player, he has the build of a pro athlete and while I knew he was a great running back I didn't realize how good his hands were, he was going up high & catching passes in crowds all day. They have another kid at wide out who was as big as Rhodes who made some nice catches too, corners and safeties on "D" had good size & speed, and covered well in the two games that I saw them play vs Amat & Maranatha.
Glendora's Wallace Gonzales was also impressive when I saw him against Amat, he too has a pro
football body, looks like a man amongst boys, he ran his routes well and had great hands. Overall I thought Glendora looked real good.
Amat's Jay Anderson, Darian Johnson, Josh Tierny and Dave Cazares all look like they will be key contributers to Amats season this year. They also have a couple of recievers that look pretty good.
All three of these teams play West Covina this
year, I think all three of these games will be wars.

Hey Mustang sallys, who owns the Branding Iron??? You are nothing with pads on! Prepare for your annual butt kicking to start the season off right.

Walnut played really well but they didnt finish 3rd. They lost to Arroyo game one of bracket play and went to the consolation bracket. Santiago beat Hart & Carson beat Arroyo in the semi-finals. If Walnut won out then they were consolation champions. Coaches dictate a lot of how those games were played. Walnut did do more talking/taunting than I have ever seen out of them in the past, but after each game they were respectful... win or lose.

The kid from Marantha is lucky they interviewed him before the Walnut game. He throw (not threw) all of one touchdown pass against Walnut. Marantha lost 38-6 or something like that. As far as the hit from the Walnut player against Glendora goes: the Glendora reciever was on a slant at the goal line and was bobbling a 3 yard pass. The walnut defender was not on a dead run nor lowered his shoulder when the impact happened. Yes he was a little emotional after the hit (which if I'm not mistaken is part of football) and I'm sure he would take it back after seeing the results, but for you noobs out there chastising him or saying "wait till we put pads on" go the hell back to your mom's basement and lock the friggin' door, you disgust football purists. This was a passing league tournament and ?? happens. We all pray for a speedy recovery of all the injured players, but that's no reason to make asinine comments towards the other players that were involved. My bet is the lame comments posted here came from the losers in this tournament. Results: 1. Carson 2. Corona Santiago 3. Walnut

Relax guys,

It's not like passing tournaments dictate the strength of a program.

Take last year for example...

South Hills appeared to "win" against both Bishop Amat and Notre Dame during a passing league tournament.

Yet South Hills lost to West Covina during the regular season while West Covina got mauled BIG TIME time by Bishop Amat.

playallday,

Which is it? The kid that delivered the hit was running for cover? Or the whole team was running for cover? I must have missed that. Settle matters? That's a fib. I guess those 2 referees must have held back the GHS players and saved Walnut. The GHS receiver lowered his body to deliver a blow making the game a little more physical. Stop lying. If the Walnut coaches really said that, that's weak and really should not be coaching. But since your post is full of B.S., I find it hard to believe. A few concussions and two kids in ambulances. I'm sure most of the kids out there are key players. Seems like a stupid tournament.

playallday said:

the walnut coaches did not help by saying their kid was replying to ghs wideout who ran hard through one of their guys. are you kidding me, cheap shot because ghs wideout was doing his job? and the walnut players only ran for cover when they saw ghs coming on the feild to settle matters, no wonder walnut sucks at football, lets put pads on and see where walnut ends up. what a joke. LOSERS, KID IS A P---- WHO DELIVERED HIT, KID RAN FOR COVER BEHIND HIS TEAMATES AS SOON AS HE SAW GHS COMING FOR HIM, what a joke except for kid in hospital!!! get well soon kid, your teammates have your back

baby blue nutter said:

Relax Glendora. Walnut was bumping their chests because it was a big 4th down play (no, there was not 10 minutes left)....once they realized the Glendora player was hurt, that stopped. Please, it's an emotional game. They had their backs turned as they were running to the side lines. I believe the kid that hit him was not able to play in the next game. For what it's worth, he said he didn't do it on purpose. However, I find it funny how quickly you forget that the Glendora coach with the red shorts on was jumping for joy when your big WR nailed one of the Walnut defenders. It's football. Personally, I think that kind of tourney is dangerous. Two kids getting airlifted is ridiculous. Hopefully it was all precautionary.

That's what Walnut has to do to get over it's ineptitude once the season starts. Glendora trounces Walnut with pads on. What did the Walnut HC say or do?

wow said:

sorry but Bonita needs better refs. two kids so far have gotten knocked out cold. they only penalized the kid that knocked the glendora kid out and they didnt resume play so glendora lost with 10 minutes left. and two culver city kids ran into eachother but i believe only one got knocked out and taken away. i know this is football but they dont have any pads on. if they did have pads on it would be a different story. kids from walnut after the one kid on walnut knocked the glendora kid out were clapping and chest bumping. that is very unsportsmanlike conduct and the whole team should get penalized and disqualified. thats just horrible. kid goes out for a pass other kid lowers shoulder and hits the kid going out for a pass right under the chin. and barely gets in trouble. i mean its supposed to be touch or at least a little contact and be aggressive and not run full speed and knock a kid out. the kid from glendora was flown to usc medical center. just outright unsportsmanlike clapping and chest bumping after a kid just gets knocked out classy

Roosevelt Mustangs of Corona will win this tourney tonight at 7:00 p.m. is my prediction

Transfer rules said:

Freshman Transfer Rule,

They do have a freshman transfer rule, but their are exceptions to the rule. Some but not all are;

A player can't follow a coach.
A player can't be recurited.
A player can only transfer once.

The move needs to take place before the students first day of the fall school year.

Freshman Transfer Rule said:

Huskies II, I believe CIF has a freshman transfer rule were kids can transfer to another school after their freshman year, no questions asked.

Fred, correct me if I'm wrong.

Huskies II said:

So C.I.F. will investigate high profile transfers but never inquires about our young men from Los Altos that transferred after their freshmen year. Why is C.I.F. so arbitrary and subjective? We have impact players already on the field that are just as valuable and actually were the most valuable players on Los Altos freshmen team that are contributing just as much as someone like the Canada's will so my point is C.I.F. only goes after high profile names which seriously is not fair in my opinion. Huskies post is right though regardless we will be just fine without these young men if they cannot play for us and I am predicting a C.I.F. Championship this year beginning our campaign Tuesday night when we perform better and beat the invincible almighty Charter Oak Chargers. We have too many athletes this year so are real problem is going to be how to keep everyone involved and happy.

Huskies said:

Nope, no shirley out there, but two good lookin QBs out there... Both with good size, good footwork, and good arms... Bogan will have either one ready for the coming season... We'll be ok husky hank, trust... Shirley/Canadaless we'll be fine as well...
