St. Paul's Gabe Encinas, Bishop Amat's Rio Ruiz and Diamond Bar's Kenny Mathews all invited to try out for U.S. National Baseball Teams

St. Paul's Gabe Encinas (18-U), Bishop Amat's Rio Ruiz (16-U) and Diamond Bar's Kenny Mathews (16-U) were the only area players invited to participate for spots on the U.S. National teams. Who else should have been considered locally? USA 18-U story, 18-U Roster, 16-U story, 16-U Roster

Gongrats to the three local boys who are very deserving. They are nice players and will do well. It's unfortunate the USA Baseball selection process is based on "Politics over Performance".

The team is basically hand picked before the first pitch is thrown, one has to wonder if everyone really knew this would the format be full every year? It's about money $2000 per team to play as the droves flock to the desert with high hopes and dreams not really knowing the outcome has already been determined.

Two local freshmen who helped lead their JO team just as they did their CIF SHHS championship team were completely overlooked.

CJ Saylor hit over .500, had the best pop time in testing (1.88) out of some 144 catchers, threw out 12 on bases between attempts & back picks.

Ty France hit a 3 run homerun his first at back and never looked back with three doubles two triples, pitched, played third and first. A continuation of High School in deed.

USA Baseball blows thier own horn on their own website as if it's a magical third party story about the best of the best. Truly the three local boys who made the trials team are great players, several others are pure hype.

Better plan on adding a nanny to the roster if you take McCraney. Beyond soft and a crybaby too.

DB's Burnsy just picked up the win against the Mets. 6 2/3 innings, left the game with a 5-2 lead and the Brewer bullpen holds the lead. Way to go mike!!!!!!!!!!!! Next start should be against the cubs on sun, then the dodgers next weekend if builds of this outing!

Definitely that kid from Amat, Jordan McCraney. For a 15yr old, he's has a great bat.

Congrats to Gabe. You are a fine young pitcher. Go make your family, country, the Slime, and the Del Rey League proud. Just know to always bow down to your uncle Paul because he owns you in head to head matchups. I believe you are 0-4 against Mr. Paez.

Congratulations to all three, very deserving. I think one who might have been overlooked is the South Hills freshman Tyler France.

Congrats to Kenny and Rio. Saw both of them play in Arizona. They are both well deserving. There are other players that probably were considered, but they may not be eligible because of their birthdate.

I am happy to see Mike Burns get another chance in the major leagues. He was in the astro's organization for a long time and saw time as a relief pitcher. While at Diamond Bar he was primarily an shortstop and pitched rarely mainly in tournaments. At CSLA the old ball coach told Mike his only chance at the majors was to become a pitcher full time after spending his freshmen year playing 3b. Mike spend some time with the former dodger pitching great Mike Marshall. I am happy to see him get a chance to be a starter.
Good luck to Kenny Mathews in trying out for the 16u USA team. The last brahma to make a USA national team was P Mark Jecman.

DB baseball gather round and pull for one of your own tomorrow! said:

congrats to all 3, way to go!!!!!!! Shout out for all the DB honks, former Brahma Mike Burns makes his 2nd career start tomorrow for Milwaukee Brewers tomorrow against Johan Santana an da Mets baby!! Burnsy has been at the triple A level for a good 4 years now and hopefully can make a go of it this time around on the major league level. He was 1 stinking pitch from a quality start last week against the Twins, he's 31 years old, trying to break through after all these years, he's a guy we all would pull for! Not a cocky bone in his body. Git 'er done Mike!!!
