Don’t expect the San Gabriel Valley to receive national recognition anytime soon

ESPN’s rise magazine lists the top 50 high school athletic programs in the country. Mater Dei (2), Loyola (4), Long Beach Poly (6), Mira Costa (11) and Long Beach Wilson (12) are in the top 12. Bishop Amat is the closest thing we have to making this list, but they were not included in the top 50. Can they ever crack a list like this? Is this a level the Lancers should be at or strive for? Is there any school in the San Gabriel Valley with a chance to reach national recognition? My honest thoughts are no, as long as most San Gabriel Valley teams compete in lower-level divisions, it won’t happen.
