Charter Cove comes up short, still advances

The Charter Cove Post 755 baseball team, made up mostly of players from Charter Oak High School, came up short Tuesday in its quest to win a American Legion California State championship.
San Bernardino, which lost in the first round of the tournament, came all the way back to win the event, scoring wins of 5-4 and 20-12 over Charter Cove to win a state title.
Both teams advanced to the regionals, with San Bernardino playing in the West Regionals in Fairfield and Charter Cove traveling to Medford, Ore. for the Northwest Regionals.
Charter Cove, which lost in the championship round to Merced last year, advanced to the regionals for the second consecutive season.
Here is the story from our sister paper, the San Bernardino Sun, which rounds up San Bernardino’s sweep.
Charter Cove coach Jon Garkow: “Although I’m disappointed that we didn’t bring home our first state title, I’m very proud of the effort we put forth. These kids played their hearts out and finishing as state runners-up for the second consecutive year is quite an accomplishment, especially considering we only had 10 players.”
