The 2009 prep football schedule is set and ready to go by clicking the thread. I localized the week-by-week schedule, and what you might find interesting is that the regular season ends on Friday the 13th.
Fred's over-under prediction: The over-under on Damien wins this season is 5. New coach Greg Gano can only do so much. They will have a good chance to win their last three games, and a week three encounter against Claremont. That's four, a fifth win against Rancho, St. John Bosco, Charter Oak, Bishop Amat, Chino Hills and Glendora will be mighty difficult. I say they get one, but not two and finish 5-5. Enjoy your weekend!

Wait until the new coach and his son get going at La Verne Lutheran. You'll have kids quitting and parents fired up in a heartbeat. Mark my words. I know from experience.
Okay this is supposed to be a how will Damien do thread. So I will try to stay on topic sort of.
Ther Sierra League has 4 teams that should compete for the title. Here is my preseason breakdown of the league, which should give some idea how the season will go for Damien. I will use the Calpreps ratings as a guide.
Chino Hills- Favored to win league. Good agile QB and best skill players in league. WEAK line. Lost their best linemen last year. Great team speed. Last year JV team was 6-4
Glendora- Chosen to be 2nd, but they are my pick to win it all. Lots of returning players, good lineman, probably the best receiver in the league, QB will be strong. Not too many weaknesses. Last year JV 9-1
Damien- Supposed to finish 3rd. Besides a coaching change what have they done to deserve this ranking. They still have to have players whether they are led by Gano or Morrison does not change that. They had a soft line last year and there does not seem to be enough up front to compete. They will be improved and Gano is a helluva coach, but i don't know if this is the year they will break out. Look for 2010 and beyond when all the recruits and transfers start to attend Damien. Last Year JV Unknown
Ayala- Supposed to finish 4th. Lots of question marks. New QB? new RB's, new receivers. QB is 6'5" transfer from Orange Lutheran and looks good so far. He stood out at camps he attended, and would have scholarship offers if he had more film. Some new faces at receiver positions look good, Running backs have the advantage of running behind the best and most experienced Offensive Line in the league. Four returning starters from last years line, and one of them is a 3 year starter. Last year JV team was 9-1
Chino/Diamond Bar- Next year they get to get out of the Sierra, where they can compete. Chino has some potential and could upset anyone of the top four to spoil playoff hopes, but don't expect either of these teams to compete for the title.
Live in the area, seen Bonita, seen Damien, both have armies of kids. Drove by Lutheran high "I live three blocks from there" and blew my mind,only about 15 kids running drills, and three recievers that were better than any kid ive seen on any of the other teams.
Dont know much but i do know when I see 6',6'2" and 6'4" recievers, i parked my car outside the field gate to watch, good little quarterback and some decent kids just no numbers.
I havent seen anyone out there all summer and then there they are. what gives here

Though there will be much more offense with this coming season's Spartan team, Damien's schedule still remains as difficult and any in the San Gabriel or Pomona Valleys.
From what I've read on Fred's blog, the players appear to be responding to the new regime---Coach Gano, I'm certain, will enjoy dealing with the men from Damien.
