The area's best sophomore isn't from Bishop Amat, Damien, Charter Oak or South Hills ... Milton Williams is from La Verne Lutheran ... Oops, Guru says he's now at Don Lugo
BREAKING NEWS NOTE: The Scouting Guru just texted to say Williams is now at Don Lugo, not La Verne...
The first draft: La Verne Lutheran linebacker Milton Williams, is on MaxPreps' national list of the best sophomores-to-be of the 2012 class, and the only area player on the prestigious list. Read the hype, with comparison's to Los Altos' Cody and Harwell. Maxpreps writes:Lutheran head coach Bobby Godinez is convinced that Milton Williams has the makings of a very special player. "I've never seen a kid like Milton," Godinez said. "I've played with Shaun Cody and Brigham Harwell, and I think Milton is better at the same age." Williams is a 6-1, 215-pound linebacker who suffered through injury for much of last season, but came back late in the year and made a splash. "His explosiveness is unstoppable," Godinez said. "He'll go anywhere he wants." Godinez mentioned that Williams is originally from Oklahoma and would love to play for the Sooners. He also said that UCLA has shown early interest in Williams, and may extend a verbal offer.

I thought you said there wasn't any audio with that video? There was music.
Williams spent half the season injured - and to the uninformed the football team did not play in the league with the "deaf kids and the orphans." that would be the schools other teams.
That being said - that ranking is based on hype from the king of hype (godinez). The kid is good, but best in the area??? - lets see if he can play a whole season at Lugo.
BTW: Josh Thompson is back at LV - also there is a new senior who was at St Paul, Dante Webb.
But the school does appear to be in jeopardy of not fielding a team (they maybe have 16 kids right now).
Word also is that Godinez has turncoated to Western after quitting on the LHSLV players who had given them a full commitment. Shocked that any school would hire Godinez (if the Western rumor is true). But I guess the lower level HS coaching ranks are a tough hire!
playallday great I'll see you at GHS's second day of two a days. no calling out or anything thuggish. i just want to see what you're talking about...then we''l go see williams at don lugo and you can tell me what you think and see...I'll buy you lunch if he's close to what you say he isn't and you'll buy me lunch if I can convince you Coach p is better than you think.
deal?
I just think you're wrong on both counts but you never know ...i could be the one who's off base....either way it would be enlightening don't you think? no need to make this anything else than a good discussion as adults...besides...we could both be wrong, lol
crazy, good name for you, never said he could not be a varsity player at ghs,
but for sure not in his freshman year, do not compare bj to this kid, bj is way more talented than what i saw on this film. bj can play any sport he wishes and get d1 looks, no body ever doubted his ability at ghs. not sure where you are going there, and yeah, coach p is not a big development type of coach, if you have it, you have it, coach does not bring it out, and believe
me, i have first hand knowing in this regard, that being said, coach p will help his players in the classroom when he can, which is more important than anything else, you sir, or kid? are a joke, and i will meet you any day that you like
Film can lie. This film lies. I saw Milton play a few times. The kid is impressive, but he and LVL played horrible competition most of the season. Several of their games were ended due to mercy rule by halftime. Many people here trash the basketball team due to their schedule, but believe me, they play some pretty decent basketball teams. The football teams in their league are another story. "Sorry", "Sorrier" and "Oh my God they are awful".
Let's see how Milton fares at Lugo. He was at LVL to play for Bobby G. Bobby was shown the door by the principal. I believe Josh Thompson is gone as well. I wonder if all those LA kids who were practicing with LVL this spring are still coming...doubtful.
playallday....let me get this straight. You're essentially saying Coach P and Co could not have made him into a Varsity player...at 6'1" 220 lbs playing and practicing against better competition and being coached up....just couldn't happen....and you're so sure of yourself based on what information....a poor film played against a poor team.
What doesthat say about your confidence in the GHS coaches and more importantly what does that say about you...despite his size he's still only a 14/15 year old kid....how would you like someone saying that about your 15 year old.
In a few plays the kid shows balance, power and strenght....fundamentals are taught, conditioning is taught, technique is taught and execution is taught...but size and body are not taught and he has both...AS A FRESHMEN !!!
Look at Wallace Gonzalez...I don't think anyone thought he's be a 4 year Varsity WR yet he made All CIF out of the tough Sierra League....you crack me up.
Meet me at a practice and tell me everything you see...I'll hold my breath waiting for you to show up. What a joker!
I once said Wallace Gonzalez was going to be special after seeing him play a basketball game againt Ramona MS...and everyone said I was either nuts or putting too much pressure on the kid...well he's done all right in two Varsity sports and could have made CIF in three..Football (done) Baseball (soon to be done) and Basketball (would have been done.
Give the Big Kids a break must be tough having to deal with frustrated Dads who wish their kids had all their "gifts"..craziest story I heard first hand was a RMS Dad calling out Wallace Gonzalez after WG laid a big hit in a game...is that crazy!!!
When I told the RMS Dad, "He's just a kid...and an 8th grader for Christ sake!" He said.."You know ..he's just so big...I think I just lost it" And this Dad is a friend and a super nice man. Hey we all make mistakes....hopefully we learn from them.
Best of luck to the Big Kids with crazy skills... your time will come.
Fred what did you think peopel were going to do...give the kid his props????

sorry freddy, have to agree with majority on this one, big kid, big deal.
he would not have played on ghs jv last year as a freshman. would not play varsity as a sophmore, would up down this year at ghs
...
wait, La Verne Luthern has a football team? LOL
not impressed
I don't know why you people keep saying anything about his competition. Look at the kid. He's a freshman playing varsity competition. MaxPreps obviously saw something they like and I'm sure they know much more than a lot of us, at least they see more. The other thing is, it doesn't matter where he plays, competition or bad competition (and this goes for anyone)... Is he big enough? Fast enough? He could play for a middle school, if he has those tools, it won't matter one bit. You really think Pete Carroll is going back and wondering whether he is good enough to play at SC because a kid plays at Azusa and not Amat? NO. How big and how fast. Williams looks big and has good speed, plus he's a freshman. No freshman in the valley looks like this kid.
It's good that he transferred to a bigger school and still has time to develop since he's only a sophomore. I would have rather had him go to Bonita just a pitching wedge away from Lutheran. However since he is behind(he was playing Freshman 8 man, I mean seriously). He'll have to work really hard in order to crack the line up next year, because I am very sure they have the talent for this year at the linebacker position. However this also tells you the state of La Verne Lutheran's football program...cover story is that they're going to 11-man this year. However I don't even know if they'll field team this year.
I have to agree with the majority on this one Fred, nothing real impressive on that video, the kid may be talented but considering the level of competition on the video, we got nothing to go by.
Milton Williams will not get the respect he deserves until he transfers to a school that plays real opponets. YOu can't get respect if you play a bunch of nobodys. Why not go to Damien, right down the street? Or Bonita for free? Everyone looks great when you play the likes of the Montview League or worse.
I agree, the Canada brothers will be lighting it up this year and he is definetly the top soph.
I believe that you will all be surprised this year. Headlines will be made this coming season at South Hills for Sophmore Jaime Canada, wide receiver. The Canada brothers. Jesse Canada, Wide Receiver, Mount San Antonio College, Jordan Canada, Running back, and Jaime Canada, Wide receiver, South Hills will all be leading the headlines this coming season.
The brothers are working together very hard this summer, they are in great shape and will be ready to break records
This just in, one of the best lineman in the valley, transfers to the eastside of the 605.
Stay tuned or start guessing!
To Bearcat Alum,
I know a little, the way I hear it we should do better this year. I just got back stateside, but I'll have better news when I see fall camp before I have to leave. We have a quarterback in Garret Pendleton, people say things but from what I understand he's going to be ready to play. All of Podley's QBs are when they start the year. Runningbacks no intel, I think we do, we've needed a bruiser since Pablo Garay graduated. Defense should be one of the best they've had, any better than what we've had and consisten offensive line play we should do well. Schedule isn't full of cream puffs, but if we can remain unscathed then we should be battle hardened when league comes around, I see playoffs and we might be able to go deep if we can get it going. I have faith in Coach Podley, he and his staff have always gotten the best out of their players.
And unlike a lot of other places we don't seem to be a destination for transfers and we use the talent that comes from home most of the time. To bad I won't be able to see the season, I will be back in the valley for Thanksgiving, so I expect to see a game that Friday.
I take that the video was his freshman year. Impressive size for his grade level, but not impressed with game speed and the level of competition is by far very weak. Put him with the big boys and see where he stands. Right now he is a big fish in a very small pond. Wouldn't be surprised if he would be playing for Gano in a few years.
Don Lugo.....He should have just come to DR. At least he would be developed mentally and physically. I will say this, 8 man is far different than 11 man. So we shall see. DR will welcome the ability and potential both in the classroom and on the field!!
Anyone heard of Tre Hale out of Damien? Heard this kid was supposed to be a pretty solid defensive linemen, possibly D1 caliber. Heard he faired pretty well at some camps over the summer (SC, Nebraska, and Stanford)
saw vidio,
looked like the other team was in slow motion.
kids dont go to those schools for football,
so why are we talking about them...
how about the qb at glendora.
now theres a story, with a future waiting to happen.whats next are we going to talk about little johnny.
in the seventh grade
Your telling me that Gano or Bogan hasn't already indirectly contacted this young man and recruited him for their own teams. If he was as good as advertised, I promise you he'd be playing for one of those teams. As a parent my suggestion is let the courtship begin if he's really that good because I just recently "shopped" my son to a few programs and realized just how important the right school is and unfortunately La Verne Lutheran is not the right place for your son. Now my son is only going to be a Freshman so even after this year we can always change schools if were not happy with the product but I promise you LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!
nice video...mary star of the sea had a heck of team that year
Not impressed, he looked like he was playing in a pop warner video from the looks of things. The speed of the game was a slow pace. He may be talented but against who?
Were these highlights against the deaf kids, or the orphans?
Hey Aaron,
since you seem to know a liitle About Bonita. Can you tell me how they look this summer. Do we have any stud running backs, Do we have a QB? etc. I have moved away but still very interested
First lets not pound on a kid becuase he does not play for a D1 school. Not all kids that made it went to a D1 school. However I agree with most of you that I did not see anything to impress me. The expect a 6'2 200 pound kid to "push" a 5foot 100 pound kid to to the floor. I didnt see any footwork when running the ball or any massive hits while on D in what I expected to see in a 6'2 200lb kid. In the list you will also see a kid Ken Lawler from Upland. He made some good cathces last year however nothing that I would have thought to see him on Max list. Beside he should thank summer school sicne he finished the year with a 1.8 gpa. YOu have sevral other up coming Sophs that are better coming from SH, Amat, CO, even Covina and Los Altos. My point is its the coaches who make the noise for these kids and are providing an opportunity. Coaches please take notes and do your job and create opportunites for these kids. We have a Valley of up coming studs Ruiz at Amat, France at SH, the QB kid from CO. Parents do whatever it takes to get the kids ready (camps, travel ball, P. Trainers) to play for you. Do us all a favor (parents, student-Athletes) and do whatever it takes. Post your teams stats, pick up the phone and call someone- who cares if who you are and have or dont have a winning program. My son played with ball last year with Lawley and I just watched the video on the LV kid... Coaches they are nothing we dont have at our local high schools...Shame on you! No excuses!
Wait...I have an impersonator, I guess that's why it's in lower case. On leave for a few weeks at home in La Verne. I think some reporting needs to be done because as someone said...La Verne Lutheran has like 15 guys showing up at practice, I can confirm this I drove by and I counted 11. I don't think they'll be able to field a team this year. If I was this kid and I had real dreams I'd go down the street to Bonita, and with Bonita's schedule this year he might put up some good numbers if he is as good as advertised, if he is a La Verne resident.
Freddie your blogs dwarf your boy Miguel's. His are like 8-man football and yours are like 11-man. Teach him a thing or two will ya. He's a good dude, but a little guidance would be very beneficial.
This kid has some skill and size, but I'm not all that impressed. He plays for a small school program and the competition is limited. Stick this Kid in a program like South Hills, Charter Oak, or hell throw him in with the Big Boys at Bishop Amat in D1 and see what he's made of. If he does get a big time scholarship with a D1 college he's going to have a lot to prove; especially in speed, strength, and durability. This kid has the potential to be a standout player, but it sounds to me like his durability is in question suffering through injury last season. He had plenty of options to play for any area team he wanted, but chose la verne lutheran. I would say he gets buried in a D1 college depth chart. Just my opinion until l proven wrong. Come on Fred, we need some exciting high school football news to jump start this blog with some controversy/excitement. The season is almost a month away.
LVL is supposed to be 11 man this coming season, but Bobby Godinez is no longer the coach.
Is that 8 man football in the video. The kid looks good but he just maybe a giant among dwarfs. Let him play on an 11 man tean with the likes of SH,Damien,Amat,CO and lets see what he looks like out there. Who are the power house teams in 8 man ball and does LVL even play them. Not knocking the kid just putting it into perspective.
