Tribskin Pick'em, your predictions and ours

| | Comments (36) |

Steve Ramirez and I will go head-to-head throughout the season, and I will update our records each Monday on the Tribskin Pick'em thread.

Robledo: Last season: 204-54
Ramirez: Last season: 193-65
Notes: This is the third season Steve and I have gone head-to-head. We play for a steak dinner at the end of the season, and we have split, Steve winning year one by a game, then I blew him away down the stretch last year to pull even. So, this is the rubber year. Steve made his picks last week, the man left on a Baja cruise this morning and will be back Thursday ready for action. Okay, so we agree on all games with the exception of Norwalk-South El Monte and Westview-Bonita, in which I have gone with the out-of-area teams. Norwalk was 8-5 last season and is a 44-20 favorite on Calpreps. Even though the Eagles have a new coach and there will be plenty of energy, they're still missing a lot of weapons from last season. Bonita is playing a San Diego team that went 9-3 in Division II football down South. The Bearcats are a see-it-to-believe it team for me, and right now I don't believe it. We both like Damien's chances for an upset, but are realistic enough to stay with Rancho Cucamonga. We also think Muir will be too much on their new turf at home, and that Los Altos will get off to a good start with a convincing win over San Dimas. Did I just say that? I mean, Charter Oak will open with a romp. Teams that we're very curious about are La Puente, Azusa, and Workman, the three we believe will fight it out for the Montview league title. Will Baldwin Park win easily, and how will Duarte fair when the Tip Sanders era begins? It all goes down in week one.

Thursday, Sept. 3
La Puente at Gabrielino, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (La Puente), Ramirez (La Puente)
Azusa vs. Garey at Citrus College, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Azusa), Ramirez (Azusa)

Damien vs. Rancho Cucamonga at Los Osos, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Rancho), Ramirez (Rancho)

Norwalk at South El Monte, 7: p.m -- Robledo (Norwalk), Ramirez (South El Monte)
Gardena at Charter Oak, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Charter Oak), Ramirez (Charter Oak)

LA Fans, brace your selves for a long…long season.

Attended last night’s game and was stunned by the level of LA disorganization on both sides of the ball. For those that missed it here’s a brief sample;

-Too many players on field, too few players on field...
-False starts…Off-sides…Delay of game…
-Infinite dropped passes & sloppy missed tackles.
- Players kicked-out for Unsportsmanlike Conduct…
- Etc, etc…

On one memorable defensive play, a few players asked for time-out while others stood around in a daze…DURING…the play!! Of course, this resulted in a SD 60yard touchdown run.

LA football has become a comedy of errors and I wasn’t sure weather to laugh or cry.

In contrast, San Dimas had a couple holding penalties, looked organized and very well coached. The Saints cruised to an easy victory.

And to make matters worse, LA is sporting the ugliest uniforms I have ever seen. These are right up there with the Oregon Ducks away -all black- ‘Martian’ uniforms.

With those big bright numbers, and ‘jumpsuit-like’ looks, my beloved Conqs resemble a gang of hillbilly NASCAR drivers. All we’re missing are some sponsor patches…

Dark times loom ahead in Conq Land.

Calling LA parent and anyone else who Loves LA. Get a venue for Friday. We can't have this game be cancelled. There are plenty of schools who don't play this Friday who could offer their fields. Get Aguilar on it. LA must play and Crush the Saints this Friday. If Aguilar can't get it done.... he will be done soon after.

Come on coach, overcome the fires. Get on the phone and find us a field to do battle. Don't let the fires stop this weeks games. Get on a bus and send the boys to OC. Could be a great opportunity. Grab it and take control of your destiny.

Heights,

I guess I've been listening to the wrong people then. How can anyone expect LA to be better this year when they lost so many. Am I missing something??

Heights Parent said:

LA Parent,

Something u might want to take note of. All the die heart LA Football supports with inside knowledge of the program don't come on this blog and make comments like yours. A good example of the LA talent would be at the receiver spot. You have a junior receiver that started on varsity as a sophmore last year. He was going to transfer over to SH's this year with the rest of his friends. He stayed at LA because he was told he wouldn't start over their. He is going to make the move his senior year.

I should have said we're on our way back. Is that really true about LA losing all of those players? I haven't heard any of that.

What do you know about San Dimas this year? I heard they are down, but don't know if that's true.

I think we'll compete for third this year, but hopefully better in the years to come.

Thanks for the reply.

LA Parent,

You need to be realistic, LA isn't even close to the LA of old. Yes you may roll over SD and NV but they aren't the teams they were last year. You just like Wilson are going to get lite up by CO and DR. You are going to get lite up by SH's also. We all need to be realistic here.

LA Parent said:

Heights Parent,

What are you talking about??? LA is back, and Wilson can't handle it. At LA we take one game at a time and San Dimas is scared. I heard the coaches at San Dimas are trying to get out of the game because of the fires. It's payback time SD, and you can't get out of it.

San Dimas is going to get rolled!!! I notice all the SD people are quiet this year. They know they suck!!

Did you go to last seasons games? Come on we went undefeated in League and went to the C.I.F playoffs! If your from AZUSA, you were at the games. How's this for you, Fred was at two of last seasons game against Duarte and Covina, so talk to some of them if we were a JOKE!

Trueblue say what you want say, and go ahead and bad mouth, but the ranking don't LIE! See where C.I.F has placed AZUSA. We have a new coach who knows how to play the game, just doesn't run the ball every down.

I see DAWG, wants to get in the mix now. LOL...

Football Jones,

This year LA at the varsity level has more talent than Wilson. LA already had a system in place, where as Wilson is running a new offense and defense. These are LA's advantages, but Wilson is a better coached team. All I am saying about this years game, is it is going to be a game. Wilson will be coached up by the LA game.

After this year Wilson has a very clear advantage in talent, it isn't even close. LA has taken some major hits, with transfers which is kind of ironic.

Lets review some of the transfers that I am aware of;

Senior Class;
QB, 9-0 as a freshmen transferred out
RB, started varsity last year transferred to SH
RB2, Out for season his back.
DE, transferred out played varisty at LA last year

Junior Class;
QB, South Hills played JV last year
RB, South Hills played V last year
Linemen, South Hills played V (recurited by USC)
Linemen, played varsty LA, transferred out
Linemen, transferred out of state
three other linemen, that played at JV transferred out last year

Sophmore Class;
QB, Three of four left to Wilson
RB, Both transferred out
WR, Not playing may have transferred out
TE/DE Quit for the second time a couple weeks ago

These are just the kids I am aware of. Most of the upperclassmen would be starting at LA today. In this group you have LA's starting qb,rb,te, and three linemen that would start for sure on offense.

On the other side Wilson has received some of these players but has been able to keep their core talent together. Yes the talent wasn't as good as what LA had but it is much better than what they have.

LA is not getting the out of area kids like they have in the past. Two reason for that, one a 4-6 and 1-9 record back to back, two they are no longer open enrollment. Now I do understand if a football player comes to Coach A in an attempt to transfer to LA he is going to take care of it. But, by no longer being open enrollement the walkons don't walk on. They stay home like Wilson, LP, and Workman to name a few.

An example of that is the incoming freshmen class at Wilson looks like LA of Old and LA looks like Wilson of old. LA has a very small team, in numbers and size. Wilson's freshmen team is over 50 kids with the line looking like it is going to average over 6' in size. I personally believe this is a direct result of LA no longer offering open enrollment.

Now if you factor in the league religment Wilson is sitting real nice for the next few years to come. I can't say the same for LA, it doesn't look good. I really don't see them making the playoffs for the next four years. This year depends on what Bonita brings to the table. Yes at this time I am giving LA the edge in the LA/Wilson game. Wilson has a complete new system, it is going to take sometime.

Conqs vs. Wilson?

C'mon Cat fans,time to be sensible.

LA may not be the team of old, but do you really believe Wilson is NOW a better team WITHOUT Gilmore?

I like Wilson, and I think they'll gain some much needed stability with new HC...but Wilson is a long way from building a Dynasty.

LA will win their first 3 games, and with a little luck they'll finish at 500.

Go Conqs!!!

Don't be a retard dude. Just because Wilson is changing leagues/division doesn't mean LA, and Wilson won't play pre-league games (duh). Believe me, once Wilson brings the WHEEL back to the top of the hill this year, LA will want to have another shot at getting it back in 2010. Make sure you all get a bunch of nice pictures of the wheel in the next few weeks, cause after the Cats take it back, you may not see it for awhile. :)

Heights parent...FYI, this will be the last time LA will play Wilson! Too bad for all the so called talent at Wilson.

Heights Parent said:

Conq,

They will do better this year, but they are a weaker team than last year. The only league game they are going to win is the Wilson game. This game will be much closer this year. Now based on current talent in both programs this will be LA's last chance in the next four years for a win against Wilson. The underclassmen talent favors Wilson big time. Wilson is currently loaded with sophmores and juniors on varsity and most of them already have one or two years experience at the varsity level.

Yo Fred,

Im not sure what kind of steak you are into. high end, fast food, chain restaurant etc. If you want to go with the best steak in the SGV, the winner has to treated to Arroyo chop house in Pasadena. Thats if your looking for a great steak. FYI go with the ribeye or if you have a big man appetite go with the cowboy ribeye (medium rare, because the larger steaks their tend to be overcooked). Good luck to all SGV teams especially CO.

As far as I can tell, no one has said too much about the Sierra Vista game. So, I am guessing that it was moved to the 12 of November after all.

Question here to all you South Hills fans. What time is that scrimmage against Corona Centennial at district field ?

And to the Amat insider who came in here the other day and touched on that Amat scrimmage. Same question. Is that scrimmage at Amat or ???

I would say the LP at Gabe Thursday night game is in jeopardy of cancellation due to air quality. Zero contain on the fires - and no real timetable yet on knocking them down.

I live in Pasadena and the air this morning is hideous.
