South Hills’ Canada brothers still not eligible

South Hills high school officials received a letter from the CIF-Southern Section on Thursday explaining that its decision to rule brothers Jordan (senior) and Jamie (sophomore) Canada ineligible for the 2009 season based on an “athletically motivated transfer,” has been upheld. Gala Canada, the mother of Jordan and Jamie Canada, met with CIF-SS officials last week hoping to get the decision overturned, but CIF-SS officials weren’t convinced.

Gala Canda and South Hills’ next move is to file a formal appeal with the CIF-SS appeals board, which they have indicated they will do. The brothers left Duarte in the spring and enrolled at South Hills. They have been practicing with the Huskies football team in preparation for the season, which begins next week for the Huskies.
The Canada family filed a transfer request with the CIF-SS based on “change of residence,” having moved from Duarte to the South Hills high school district. But the request was denied after Duarte officials suggested the move was “athletically motivated,” in paperwork filed with the CIF-SS office.
