If it works out like you say I see no problem with CO being number 1. But here's a spin for you what if we only lose by 1 point and in no way shape or form am I saying we are going to lose tonight because AMAT WILL WIN TONIGHT and seeing as CO lost by a greater margin and then they only beat Damien by 1 point and we beat them by a greater margin should we still hold the number 1 ranking based on who we each lost or beat and the difference in both scores .

k.h. - according to your logic if Amat loses CO should go back on top because they "didn't get credit for losing to the CIF champs". Man you are amazing!!! we are all on here talking about 15,16,17 & 18 yr old boys having the time of there life and creating memories that they will have for the rest of there lives. I know from my personal experience I love to talk to my old teamates about when we use to play or old rivals that we use to go against high school football will live with you forever. There is NO reason for you to come on here and try to put down other people or try to piss on our local kids trying there butts off. We can all tell that 1st you have NO kids, 2nd you probably have no wife/girlfriend, 3rd you did not play hs football or you were a joke doing so. Very well put and your take on our team is pretty close to my thinking. Yes we are winning but still a lot of mistakes for the caliber of teams we will face in league and that's where it counts.We are young and this Friday is our first real test in preparing for league. No knock on who we have played but St Bonnies, man that's a test of what needs to be done. But as for our league the Monteview. Ya man i am pumped..i am proud to see all the teams and coaches step up this season and win some games. I think all the boys in the league were tired of hearing that they couldn't play ball. But ya its gonna be tough. WE (Workman) lost a tough one..we had touchdowns called back on phantom calls and had a couple easy pats missed along with the game tying pat were we went for 2 and the win instead of the tie..So were getting ready for a tough league battle. With what Azusa and LP are bringing to the table and cant look past happyRock. So i think this will be one of those seasons were teams will be knocking each other off left and right, and have a tough time getting play off postions. Amat is clearly the best team in the SGV but are you Amat fans happy with the teams first three games? Yes they are 3-0 but I don't think they are playing the way they are going to need to play to compete in league or even make the playoffs. The acid test is coming so will we find about after this weeks game how real the Lancers are.

There are times he's even the voice of reason on some topics. THought the world was off it's axis!

FIRST of all let me start by saying i was only refering to this season..And were the rankings are at week 4. Walnut always has a good start. But let's be real. At the end of the season its going to be West co rowland and south hills in the playoffs and walnut the outside man looking in. This is me being nice. You'll all see tomorrow night when Rowland smashes covina, the team that walnut just barely beat, by 40 at covina district field. I MOSdef believe that Charter Oak should be number 1 in the division though. Followed by Rowland because last year I was at that game and it was one hell of a game til rowland shot themselves in the foot at the end.

The thing I love about high school football is that most of these teams play eachother. That will clear up everything. So when it's all said and done. clearly if you have been in Walnut for as long as you say you have, then obviously you would know exactly what I know...which is clear by your comments being similar to mine.

I'm not the be all end all of Walnut information. I have been around Walnut football and their other sports since the late 80's. I have met and gotten to know all of the Walnut football coaches past and present and it is interesting to get their takes on the current status of the team. I also get information from current & former players.

With all that said, your assessment of the current squad is dead on with what I have been saying.

I do not believe you have been around football as long as I have. I was born and raised in Walnut way before Walnut was even created. I know Walnut Football!

I agree Walnut is not playing the greatest football and should not be ranked #2 in CIF or #4 in the valley.

The OL and DL are not as good as last years line and need a lot of work! They are neither big or as strong as last years line.

For the personnel the d-line has they are doing well, but not spectacular. The o-line is inconsistent. They only have any type of running game because kids like king are running as tough as he does, which makes the running game sufficient. The offense is ok but not spectacular.

Special teams has been the big surprise, the saved Walnut in the Covina game and Diamond Bar game. Walnut would not have nearly as many points as they do if their special teams nor defense didnt give them good feel position.

The secondary is not strong that includes the lb's they give up to many plays, and those plays
are TD's.

Against the run they are more than adequate. But they have to improve their pass defense. Other than that, they have been pretty good.

The offense is just loaded with players, but again the line is not as good as it should be.

We'll see what they do against Arroyo. Last year Arroyo was the only pre-season team to give them fits and this year they are better.

Then your basically saying that teams Like Utah or Boise st. Dont deserve their rankings in college..They go out and beat the teams in front of them. Don't hate to much on WC, they have hung well with some very good teams and did this with several key starters out, 4 of the injured were
3 year varsity players, if you count both sides of the ball we had 8 positions missing vs Venice and 6 positions missing vs Amat, don't you think that would affect your teams performance?
Mike Maggiore and his staff have done a great job of patching up this team so we can be competitive. To beat a team like Glendora with the injuries and a back up QB say's a lot for West Covina.
The good news from all this is that these injuries have forced WC to develope several different players, these kids are getting better week by week, they have taken their lumps and have gained valueable game time experience, as we get healthier we can only get better and deeper.

wow Walnut #4? & #2 in CIF? that's...interesting. I have maintained that Walnut will make the playoffs and finish 2nd or 3rd. I am not too happy with the defense as of late giving up roughly 21 ppg to teams who have only 2 wins between them. Covina almost stole the game from them last week when they had no business being in it. The secondary is not as strong as I would like it to be and Arroyo will be a good test to see just how good we have become.

Offensively, I am a little disappointed in Rhodes. The kid can hit on defense and has great hands, so why is he so timid going through the hole? He should be a 100 yard a game runner easily. I was looking for a 1-2 combination with King, but that hasn't happened yet. If Cooper can get the ball to Rhodes and Aubrey, then Walnut still has a strong shot.

BTW, I do think both of those rankings are a bit high. And being at Walnut for the last 20+ years I have noticed that the rankings seem to go to the kids' heads a bit more then they did say 15 years ago. Let's hope Walnut realizes they have to actually play the game.

Just a thought . I am not sure if you have ever posted what variables you use when you are considering the rankings of the local teams. Maybe if you broke it down for the bloggers in order of importance they will get a better idea on why you rank some teams with losing records higher than some with winning records. I can see why some backers would question CO above Rowland and Walnut since they have not lost, not that I agree with them but I can see their point. You do give a little info in your summary after the rank but a true list of the variables might help out and avoid all the posts pertaining to where your head is at concerning football in our valley. Yes you did admit to forgetting Damien ( that's what losing to AMAT does to a team , that's a joke for my friend Sparta no harm meant) in the rankings but I don't think they are to happy with a 12th place ranking either.

Why isn't Monrovia considered on this list? There closer than some, like RM, Arroyo, ect.

I understand that these also involve power rankings...but WesCo are you serious? I'll take where Bonita is but there are teams with a better win-loss record but also didn't play the same schedule. It's not necessarily where they deserve to be...and I don't mean they deserve to be higher, so many issues on the offensive side of the ball. They show you they can dominate and then they fall asleep.

I've seen small teams do it, but Baldwin Park is tiny, and Bravetown, are you high? Please and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, stop using CAPS Lock, kidding about being high, it's just not fun for everyone else that you write in all caps.

San Dimas got stomped like a red headed step child by Monrovia last week so they're too high and their schedule sans M-Town has been weak.

I like what's coming out of La Puente with Coach Rohrer, if he succeeds BA might not get as many kids from home...just a thought.

Yeah, fred could be like Aram and tell us what he eats, who he's dating, and so on and so on, because that's what gossip followers like you want. He could stir the pot, but some of us remember these are kids, how negative the comments once were to coaches and players. Fred does a good job balancing his opinions and allowing what others can say.

This blog has been a joke since Aram Tolegian has left for greener pastures. I have followed this blog since it has started and can not express how much disappoint has come to this blog since being turned over to Mr. Fred Robledo. There is a constant lack of reporting knowledge of every team in the SGV and a show of favoritism towards certain programs. I have said this before and I will say it again, Fred does not get the job done here! The bloggers are the ones stirring up the pot in here, not you Fred. Thanks to the bloggers this blog is still alive, otherwise it would have been dead a long time ago. We need some controversial topics and opinions from you. Is there rationality to your rankings? maybe...i really don't think so though. It shows in your "tribskin pickems" with your record how poor you are in you reporting and analysis of each team. Especially the top teams in the valley. You are always going to have vultures and upset people in this blog, but thats what its all about (controversy). If you (Fred) are so quick to change the rankings the following week because a fellow blogger thinks it is wrong, YOU ARE TRUELY SOFT! Grow some cajones and stand behind what you write and what you think. This is not a personal attack on you Fred. What I'm asking from you is to simply do your job the way it was intended to be done. Plain and simple.

I believe this has been one of the weakest SGV football seasons in recent memory.

Look, I made a mistake leaving Damien out, I will correct it. Listen to all of you whine, think I would really drop Damien from the polls? Bunch of vultures in here.

I had to read this over and over and over again to make sure I was rading this right....Fred are you saying El Rancho, Venice and Bishop Amat are tougher than Rancho Cucamonga, who beat Charter Oak your current #2 and former #1, St. John Bosco who is ranked 52 in the state and has loses to St. Bonnie's by 24 and Loyola by 11 and plays in the Pac 5, and Bishop Amat , your new #1 who beat Damien in a back and forth war by essentially 1 TD isn't even ranked?

....West Covina is #5 and lost to Bishop Amat by 2 TDs while their star RB was held to 45 yeards and Damien runners had almost 4 times as many yards? Glendora is #6 when they've only beaten Canyon after almost quitting and got beat by West Covina by 1?

Come on Fred...that doesn't make any sense...what happens if Damien beats your #2 this Friday...will they move ahead of a winless Diamond Bar who hasn't won a game since Oct of last year..... Really?

South Hills beats a broken down and rebuilding Los Altos team by 14 while San Dimas ranked 1 spot ahead of them smokes Los Altos by 26! And Los Altos, as bad as they are are ranked #20?

Bonita ranked #11 after all the negative comments coming form some of the blog' most supportive fans? Ahead of unranked Damien who's had arguably the SGV's tougest schedule to date?

Fred after Bishop Amat and Damien tangled just three days ago the Spartans fall off the top 31?

Completely inexcusable...Damien is no worse than #6 ahead of Baldwin Park, South Hills, West Covina, San Dimas and Arroyo who lost to CLAREMONT.....WHO LOSES TO CLAREMONT????? Certainly not Damien !!!.

No offense to any of the schools metioned but come on...not even ranked...LOL!

I know our defeat of Damien didn't drop them entirely out of the Top 31 or exile them from the SGV. You might want to put them in before My Friend and other Sparta supporters give you too much of a hard time.(BTW-Workman is #12 AND #16) Just lookin' out!

The way I look at it in reading your comments the order of the top two probably shouldn't change this week regardless of the outcome of Amat/Bonnies game.

If Amat is there today would losing to the #9 team in the country really change that at all - given they'll have they'll have the same record as CO (assuming CO takes care of business, which they should but certainly isn't a given vs Damien) And CO's loss would have come vs the number 200-and something team in the country. I mean, if we're comparing.

It is also refreshing to read what you write about South Hills and recognizing the losses to two pretty good teams in La Habra and Tesoro. Who you play matters.

Where is Damien???
