Thursday Final: Baldwin Park makes it look easy again, routs Pomona; Azusa survives scare

| | Comments (34) |

Thursday's results
Baldwin Park 33, Pomona 12 -- The Braves' special season continues, scoring big against a stingy Red Devils defense. You tell me, how good are these guys?
Azusa 14, Gladstone 7 -- This was much closer than expected, but the results are the same, the Aztecs win again.

MEMO TO PAY ATTENTION:

Cuz...I've been at the games. I've seen it with my own eyes. I got Pomona pegged 100%. You can't give me or make any other excuses. You should be the one paying attention and stop being delusional. The Red Devils just aren't all that. Actually, they remind me of those Auburn teams...so hot out the gate or so hyped up before the season starts and then, when it matters the most, they just fizzle out when the real pressure is on.

To bad, so sad. Great kids with tons of talent...just a program with no direction and tons of in-fighting. Good luck, you'll need it.

Hey Pay Attention: It also helps that Pomona put the ball on the ground/and INTs about 6 times in the game. Not very sound. Yes BP is physical and I like them. They bore the hell out of you but really smack you in the mouth. My question is why all the hate toward their head coach? Bravetown is alway on the blog and says he isn't good, but the guy is probably going to be 9-1 or 8-2 this year.

MVL FAN said:

Fred question;

What are the odds of AZUSA & Baldwin Park, playing each other in the PLAYOFFS?. I know AZUSA played COVINA last year and BP is also in the VVL?. What's your opinion Fred, and by the way who do you think wins the game?.

PAY ATTENTION: said:

TO FALLIN VIKING:

POMONA LOST BECAUSE BP WAS JUST MORE PHYSICALY AND MENTALLY BETTER. POMONA BLEW UP BECAUSE THERE EGO IS TOO HIGH. IF ONE TEAM GETS IN THE HEADS OF THERE OPPONETS THEY'RE BOUND TO DESTRUCT. THE OPPONET HAS TO ABLE TO PICK THEMSELVES UP AND CONTINUE NOT BLAMING ONE-ANOTHER.

GOOD JOB ON NOT GIVING BP ANY CREDIT! NOTE THAT EVERYTIME WE PLAY YOU DON'T GIVE US CREDIT. SCHOOLS IN HIGHER SOCIETIES START WITH RESPECT AND EVERY YEAR SCHOOLS IN LOWER SOCIETIES HAVE TO GO OUT EVERY WEEK AND WIN JUST TO GET NONE. or EVEN A LITTLE BIT. REMEMBER THE MORE YOU QUESTION US OR DOUBT US... MAKES US BETTER EVERYWEEK.

DISRESPECT + BRAVE FOOTBALL = BRAVE DOMINATION!

AZUSA,

Enjoy your win this WEEK!!! and all your critics are no longer on the BOARD! The game was close, and the refs called this game right on! Playing hard won this game and that is why your Coach conditions you for games like that! Gladstones QB, wasn't condition enough for that type of game and completely exhausted himself and actually helped AZUSA win the BIG GAME. So Play hard 4 qtrs. and when you'll look up at the scoreboard you'll be the ones celebrating!

AZUSA you have duarte next and don't take them lightly, because you know that would make their season winning AZUSA. Coach Sherf, have them ready like you prepared for them last year, even without the CANADA BROTHERS and there COACH CRUNCH, who is no longer there. AZTECS don't take (NO)! TEAM for granted.

GREAT JOB!

WOW! What a turn out last night and that was good to see! the AZUSA side was completely full of fans and everybody was having a good time! The lights went dead for awhile and that was pretty funny with all the fans screaming, hollering and waving their cell phones around. According to Coach Sanchez, this completely turn the game around for AZUSA with the light going off. I'll say this, that was far from the truth, what he should have realize is, having your QB playing both ways ended him costing the game! By the 4th qr. his QB was exhausted by the pass rush of AZUSA and being sacked so many times. His passes at the end were not connecting with the receivers. Gladstone I have to admit played a good game in the first half, and actually were up 7-3. The second half AZUSA step up and had a great pass rush on the QB causing him to rush. There running game never got started and AZUSA defense was to much for them.

Towards the end AZUSA, had Gladstone pinned down around the Ten yard line, and it was third down and I couldn't understand why Gladstone would punt the ball?. Of all the years of watching football, I've have never seen that when your losing. You always try to get the first down and punt on 4th down if you're uncertain you can't get it. Why would turn over the ball that early?.( Coach Sanchez), you should have also noticed your QB was exhausted and his passes were becoming in accurate at the end. Why would you continue to play him at defensive end?, being that position alone is very demanding and hard. Over all this was a good hard fought game and if AZUSA doesn't fumble twice, the score would have been different and by the way (SGV FAN, PASS INTERFERENCE ) That's FOOTBALL! Oh yeah! and this year AZUSA didn't put up as many points as last years score! SGV FAN, UUUHHH Gladstone fan? and are you scared to say that. LOL...

AZUSA CITY CHAMPIONS! (BACK TO BACK)!

I was on the goal line...kid fumbled when he hit the ground in the end zone. I'm a Damien guy so I have no dog in this fight but it was clearly a TD...bth refs were behind the pile as the runner fell in. just a terrible call.

The PI was a good call from my view but the again I was clear on the other side of the play...opposite of the endzone non fumble...for those that were there you'd know why.

Couple of thought. Neither team has much on offense but the QBs...the O and D lines cancelled each other...as both were very hard working.

Azusa had a hard time taking advantage from a coaching standpoint of their size advantage at the skill positions last night. Maybe it was a cross town rivalry but it was a fun game to watch.

I always say if you, as a player, want to appreciate your coaches , go see teams like these...who do the best they can with what they have...and just play ball...BIG TURNOUT

BIG TIME SHOUT OUT to #11 fro Gladstone...had to shake the kid's hand after the game...kid is 5'4" at best and weighs no more than 112 and he runs back KO's, starts at WR and plays CB...are you kidding me???? What a freakin STUD!!!!

Overall a great experience...

A good game between G-Stone and Azusa. I thought both teams played really hard. Lots of good, hard hits! The power outage appeared to benefit Azusa a little more than G-Stone.

I think Azusa can win a game or two in CIF. Their quarterback is quick and their defense was pretty good.

I am not really sure if G-Stone can win a game in CIF. They need to give their quarterback a break. He was getting hit on almost every single play. In addition, he was playing linebacker. That is way too much to ask! I think that is why he committed that face-masking penalty at the end of the game. He was done!

Azusa will most likely win the remainder of its games. I think it will be interesting to see who comes in second place between G-Stone, Workman, and La Puente.

What game were you watching? ( times out of ten Azusa scores another 17 points. Are you forgetting a missed field goal, fumble at the 1 inch line, our a dropped pass in the end zone? Azusa played on of their worst games of the year last night and still came away with the win. Sounds like cross town crying to me.

sgv fan said:

Azusa was stopped on 4th down again. The refs made a bad pass interference call to help azusa score go ahead touchdown. 9 times out of 10 Gladstone wins that game. Gladstone had the better athletes.

Well everything I said about Pomona last week was displayed once again. The Red Devils officially blew up from within. And I'm talking on all fronts....sloppy, lazy, and undisciplined...and now add in-fighting.

Pomona Homer...I don't want to hear about how you put kids in college when you guys are so flippin dysfunctional. And please understand, I'm mad at the coaching staff..not the kids. But their play is indicative of the lack of overall direction and internal friction from your staff. How embarrassing was that last night. You guys have some really good kids...but your program once again is just vanilla until someone is willing to run it with a heavy heart and iron fist. And the parents have to be supportive and not get in the way because it's overly apparent this team needs some severe structure and discipline. Until then, you'll just be ghetto sheik.

I'm not going to bash the kids...because it all stems from the staff. Those guys couldn't get on the same page if I handed them a breakfast menu from Denny's. You got a couple good coaches but the majority need a reality check....the offensive coordinator was throwing f-bombs at the other coaches...one of the others coaches was calling the players f-ing stupid. Coaches arguing at or with other staff members and kids....WTF is that? Where is your character? Your morals? Your control? No wonder things changed but they've remained the same.

Credit to Baldwin Park because they played a good game. Pomona could have hung with them because the Braves got really tired....but the one thing BP does is bang til the death and have big hearts. They really stepped up and went for the kill shot when the Red Devils were one the ropes and desperate.

And yeah, why wasn't someone at the game from the Tribune? This was a bigger game to cover in the VV...because SD is going to roll Covina up.

FRED, WHAT A HORRIBLE WRITE-UP IN THE PAPER. HOW ABOUT GIVING THE B.P. KIDS SOME DUE RESPECT. WE DONT WANNA HEAR ABOUT WHAT POMONA DID OR DIDNT DO. YOUR ON AND OFF THE WAGON WITH B.P., THIS WEEK YOU WERE ON, AND CANT GET A WRITER TO COVER THE GAME. THATS PRETTY BAD, ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS ONLY ONE OTHER GAME IN THE VALLEY. B.P. LOOKED PRETTY DAMN GOOD YESTERDAY, DOMINATING PHYSICALLY OVER POMONA. WATCH OUT C.I.F CUZ THE BRAVES ARE COMING..

I had the pleasure of attending both games tonight.
Baldwin Park displayed sound defense and off balance run play-action game. Pomona had to may mistakes penalties and fumbles, but boy do they have some skill players.
I left at Half 21-0 BP.

I then headed over to find Azusa losing 7-3 and Azusa fumbling right before half. The second Half was all Azusa with a field goal and late score with two point conversion. Which put them up 14-7.
Gladstone had 3 series to score but failed to protect and get a first down.

Fred, What ever happened to the 2-Minute Drill? Those were actually worth listening to..

Insider said:

Just got back from the Puro Paisa Bowl (Azusa vs Gladstone) Azusa wins 14-7. Flores= Gladstone Football Team when he doesnt get going nothing gets going. The game was not as close as the score indicates 2 Azusa fumbles in Gladstone territory and a missed field goal. The score could have easily been 31-7. Lights Went off for about 20 min probably the most exciting part of the game.
