Tribskin Pick'em, your predictions and ours

| | Comments (55) |

Steve and I will go head-to-head throughout the season. Here is our updated records on the Tribskin Pick'em thread.

Robledo: Last week/Total: 13-4/74-25
Ramirez: Last week/Total: 11-10/64-35

Last Week: Neither of us were bold enough to take Bishop Amat over St. Bonny's, but the difference was the Montview league, I went 3-0 and Stevie went 0-3. That has stretched my lead over Ramirez to ten, the biggest difference in our three years doing this. We also both missed taking Mountain View over Keppel and Rosemead over Temple City.

This week: The Smudge pot game between San Dimas and Bonita takes center stage, and though I expect it to be closer than last year's Saints blowout, I'm still taking the Saints in a close one at home. Charter Oak faces a very formidable opponent in Etiwanda, whose only loss is to Norco. Calpreps takes the Chargers by a touchdown, which sounds about right. Azusa and La Puente are both 4-1. Though Workman will have something to say about it, the winner has the inside track toward the league title. Take La Puente, they're playing too well at the moment. On Saturday the entire Valley can watch Bishop Amat vs. Diamond Ranch at Ganesha. It's a trap game for the Lancers. Diamond Ranch has them just where they want them, on a high coming off the big win over St. Bonny. Bishop isn't good enough to win on just talent alone, so expect another tight one, but another Lancers victory.

Friday's games
Bonita at San Dimas, 7 pm -- Robledo (San Dimas); Ramirez (San Dimas)
Etiwanda at Charter Oak, 7 pm -- Robledo (Charter Oak); Ramirez (Charter Oak):
Glendora vs. El Dorado at Citrus College, 7pm -- Robledo (Glendora); Ramirez (Glendora)
South Hills vs. Rosemead at Covina District, 7 pm -- Robledo (SHills); Ramirez (SHills)
West Covina at Diamond Bar, 7 pm -- Robledo (WCovina); Ramirez (WCovina)
Azusa at La Puente, 7 pm -- Robledo (La Puente); Ramirez (Azusa)
Sierra Vista at Duarte, 7 pm -- Robledo (SVista); Ramirez (Sierra Vista)
Workman at Bassett, 7 pm -- Robledo (Workman); Ramirez (Bassett)
Arroyo at La Canada, 7 pm -- Robledo (Arroyo): Ramirez (Arroyo)
Covina at Wilson, 7 pm -- Robledo (Covina): Ramirez (Covina)
El Monte at Rowland, 7 pm -- Robledo (Rowland); Ramirez (Rowland)
La Serna vs. Los Altos at California, 7 pm - Robledo (Los Altos); Ramirez (Los Altos)
Northview at Nogales, 7 pm -- Robledo (Northview); Ramirez (Northview)
Sonora at Walnut, 7 pm -- Robledo (Walnut); Ramirez (Walnut)
Saturday's game
Bishop Amat vs. Diamond Ranch at Ganesha, 7 p.m. Robledo (BAmat); Ramirez (BAmat)

Nobody needs to recruit kids from LA to Wilson. Currently, it's an obvious choice where they would prefer to play, Wilson. The lack of coaching ability at LA is the driving force behind the demise of LA football. The ones who are really losing in this situation are the kids who remain at LA, and are being fed the promises of a better tomorrow. Those tomorrows aren't going to happen until Felipe, and his circus of coaching clowns are run out of town.

Wilson parent...AKA Schriemen, GRI, the only person working his a$$ off to recruit kids from LA is you! Give me a break! All of Hacienda Heights knows you are the only idiot who left LA to have his son play back up to the back up quarterback at Wilson! What a joke!

From Wilson's prespective I feel he should stay on. He is by far the best recuriter for Wilson Football. Largest freshmen team in decades, ALL football transfers from LA to Wilson, no player has transferred out of Wilson to LA in the last two years.

Felipe Great Job ..........

Lancer Parent said:

LA FANS,

You are right, kids and their parents will not stay and buy into that program with Felipe. After this his second year he must either be released and or Resign for the better of the school and the program. As a Amat person it really hurt being a Lancer parent during the 2 years of Mark Verti and his BOY-hood chums who were in charge of coaching Amat Varsity football, I can feel your disgust for the once proud and popular Los Altos football program. Mark Verti did the right thing and called it quits after two years of knowing deep down he was not prepared nor was he the right person to steer the ship over at Amat, another storied program of greatness. Stepping down because he did it for his alma mater, he knew Amat could do better, with Verti in the high power position as HC was hurting more than helping, people were leaving, parents were pissed, reputation was folding. Felipe needs to do the same, stop being in denial and give the reigns to a seasoned veteran coach to come in and restore order to bring Los Altos football back to where it once was, greatness, I mean you dont have all those championship banners for nothing, from Despain to Gano a reputation was made over there and must be restored, Felipe is not the answer and just like Verti we all know this. Good luck and just hope Felipe opens his eyes like Mark Verti did and do it for better of his Alma Mater.

LA,

These Bloggers are right? All my years watching Los Altos play, I have never seen a poorer excecution of football. I watched Felipe play as a QB and to be honest anyone could of QB'd for Los Altos those days. Hacienda Heights had so much talent those days. Even though times have changed and the demographics have changed. I still see plenty of kids with talent. These kids aren't staying around to play at the Los Altos. I can see why. I have heard it before on this blog. I seriously think Los Altos is better off with a whole new coaching staff.

If the Administration can't see this then they definetly will be the Mark Keppel of Los Robles street.

Sorry Felipe, but your not cut out to be a HC.

Conqs will not win another game. Wilson takes you out this year by 2 td's. Felipe will be back next year for more of the same. How long will they keep him.? All I am saying is the weakest team left on our schedule is LA, I don't thnk anyone is going to question that. I haven't been watching you guys much, I personally thought the key to the game was going to be stoping Zamono. I saw him at the Wilson game last year and he looked great. But, I am being told by LA players that he is terrible.

Now you start talking about the freshmen and JV team, who cares?

Just for the record the for the first times in decades Wilson has a much bigger squad in size and numbers than LA. A very important message from the community.

The future of LA and Wilson program; next year LA is in the Miramonte. As stated earlier, they have zero chance of competing. Wilson will be in the Montview League, lets say that is a very good fit they are going to be competing.

The two programs seam to be going in totally different directions, I think we both know what ship the kids are jumping on.

It's all about the demographics. What can you do? Neither LA, or Wilson has the almighty dollar of the Catholic church behind them to draw in the fine Irish-Catholic athletes like:

Darien Johnson
Daylon McCutcheon
Eric Bieniemy
John "J.J." Jackson, etc...

As far as leagues next year. LA stays in the Miramonte, and Wilson should be moved to the VVL, unless the final "vote" goes awry.

You guys are absolutely correct. We cannot look at DR's record as a reflection of the ability of their team. They are very well coached and Layton can get those boys fired up . I am sure he will use last years loss as fuel for the fire. We need to play to our best ability and I am sure Hags will make sure of that . Great motivator and they have come to far for a let down. Believe me we will not take them lightly as we know they are a force to be reckoned with and one of the better teams in the Valley or the area . Not sure if they consider themselves part of the SGV.

At least Wilson has one player worth trying to stop. LA doesn't even have that this year.

LA has a future which involves a successful JV and freshman team. Next week we will see who will have the better future. Last year you guys said the same thing and guess what happened LA won, not only did varsity win, but so did the JV and freshman team. This year the same thing will happen again, why?? because you really only have one player to stop, and undersized yea have you seen your team, exactly. But you are right Wilson does have a better coaching staff, to bad it wont get you guys anywhere.
LA 11 CIF Championships
Wilson 1 CIF Championship I think

Anyone want to know how many times Bonita has faced Damien? Hint: Amat has played two more games against Bonita than Damien has.

It's hard to believe that Damien and Bonita have never played, the rivalry could honestly be as bad as it is with San Dimas, but I'm not sure. It has historically only been a water polo and basketball affair and most likely will remain that way for a long time.

The LA Wilson game is real simple.

Can you guys stop Moe?

Can we stop Zamano?

I personally thought you had the talent we had the coaching at the beginning of the year. As far as coaching, I now have no doubt that we have the coaching. I also feel the talent at Wilson is much better than I previously thought.

The future of LA/Wilson is a much different picture than most believe. The talent level at Wilson the next two years is superior to LA's. LA's talent level has dropped from last year and will continue to drop at least until your freshmen team can make an impact. Your freshmen team is ok, very small, none topic for an LA freshmen team. Do you realize that your junior class, the team that went undefeated as freshmen, none of the studs off that team are still at LA. You only have two or three starters left from that team.

Don't expect the trend to change much, not sure what is going on over at LA, but kids still want to transfer out.

We like to Fly below the radar
3 losses to Rank teams 1 Pac 5 team BA
1 city team that just lost to Oaks christian

I don't know if record is the best indication of things in high school football. If you want to talk record, we have to take a look at the way D-Ranch has been as well. Started off 1-6 last season. Ended up winning six straight including three after they had snuck into the playoffs with wins over POWERHOUSES Losa Altos, Wilson and Nogales. Have to pay respect to the Ranch for making that impressive and improbable run. Have to admit that is also an indictment on their division as a whole though. Charter Oak/ South Hills/ D Ranch have abused the division which has to show the quality of the division as a whole. Their is no doubt talent in the division, but it cannot compare with the likes of the toughest division in So Cal, PAC-5. Bishop Amat has struggled with good reason. If they want to be considered the class of the SGV, they've got to get back to their times of competing within this division. Their record isn't an indictment of that team's talent the past years, but as a whole they haven't been able to compete with the top teams consistently. They have still had more talent than a lot of these teams in the SGV, but they continue to play on a whole nother stage. I am by no means an Amat buff nor fan necessarily, but they deserve respect for the way they continue to challenge top tier teams and have not asked for relief at any time. Big win for Amat, they need to continue to progress as a program and team...

Why take so much offense Amat? It is simply the truth. Bishop Amat has better talent, but they have to play the Amat way every game on their schedule. They can't show up with a lax attitude against opponents who have had them circled for well over a year now. Diamond Ranch may not be the class of the SGV, but they play a tough schedule and have one of the more well-respected and liked coaches in the area. They come ready to play for Coach Layton. Amat is basically the target for envy from any school in the area. All are looking at their success and aspiring to match that. Ranch will come readay to play. Amat should win; they are the better team, but they will have to bring it in Week 5 just as they have all season long. Amat will win. I don't think their are too many on here that question that. But, if the players are echoing that same sentiment, things are going to get hairy over at Ganesha. It is great for the Valley when Amat can be successful the way they are. I believe that trickles down to the rest of the teams in the Valley and those able to schedule games against the Lancers relish the oppurtunity to measure up against them.

New York said:

If nothing else, Amat's victory as an underdog should serve as a warning to Amat not to overlook Diamond Ranch, this week's underdog.

I've always thought high school games are about match ups some are good match ups some are not. BA had way to much speed for Damien and after watching those replays it looks like St. B had trouble as well there's a reason why DJ is always on the field it looks like the BA coaching staff has the nuts to keep its best athletes on the field you always win more games that way I'm going to guess from previous years DR has always had speed so should make for a good match up?

My friend Sparta,
Exactly . These post have no effect on our team and are meant to see what kind of reaction they would get out of us the Faithful. It was fun while it lasted but now we face them and it is for real . Can't waste any time on such bs. If they have a plan so be it but believe me it has no effect on the team or the outcome. If we need post from fools like that to fire the team up we are in real trouble. Do you for a minute think anything other than Cal Preps making SB a 24 point favorite fired up the team. That was all the team needed for inspiration and a few choice articles and Hags letting them know what a win would mean to them as a team and the season. It got old after the game and now you really don't see them hounding us as much as when they were backing SB. That alone speaks volumes in itself. Drrrranch is who he is but the anonypuss was in a class all by himself. But then again on this blog who the hell knows. Or then again is it part of this trap game Fred alluded to in his senario to this weeks games. By the way you were a little tough on Fred in your post but I see your point especially when he says the timely run back , no coaching involved in that play.
To Steve,
When and I mean when have you ever seen an AMAT team play the way you discribe making those dumb mistakes and bring a lacadaisical attitude into a game. Not our style and never has been and it certainly won't start happening now.

Okay...maybe you like numbers...Hags is 11-4 since taking over at Bishop Amat.

Amt 73 haven't you wondered why Dranchhh and Anonymous have suddenly taken to irritating ONLY Bishop Amat...wiat DRanchhh also did the same to Chino Hills, Glendora and now Bishop Amat ...why? Why now? ...and why with so much noise?

I don't believe any fan would purposely pick one fight after another and provide locker room material for one opponent after another...so Amat 73...you've been around teh block a few times...why would someone come on and talk trash to a tough opponent if it wans't to rile them up hoping for an intended result.

I understand..."we're not going to lay down" or "we're coming to play" but...we're going to kick your butts up and down the field talk"? Come on...these guys have a plan...why else would they carry on like this for so long?

Try not to fall for their crap. Roddy Layton is a class act and last years game proved DR will come to play...all teh rest is just some idiots having a specific agenda...and it's gettig old.

Guys, I think you are missing the point. The term talent alone, means playing with no desire, just showing up and still be able to win. Boise State's 34-16 victory over UC Davis last week is a perfect example. Boise State has the talent to beat UC Davis by 50 points or more. But because of a lack of intensity, lack of focus mistakes, they slipped by by 18. I think that's what Fred is saying. Amat doesn't have enough of a talent advantage over Diamond Ranch to make dumb mistakes, like false starts and unforced fumbles and interceptions to still be able to win.

Joe Amat Author Profile Page said:

Freddie,

You are 100% correct. I said it before the season and a few times since. There is not a team on our schedule that we cannot beat (as we learned Friday), but there is also not a team on the schedule that could not turn the same trick on us.

We can't think that we can now just show up. The more our guys get reminded of that the better. Our guys HAVE to come to play, execute, win the take away battle and avoid the unnecessary penalties that stalled our drives in the first 3 games of the season.

Thanks for the reminder.

Fred,
On the kick off return as being timely. I believe this is the second week in a row DJ has run one back . These are usually because the special teams coach after studing film find a wrinkle in coverage of the opposite team. They just don't happen by luck . Give us some credit or at least our special team coaches. You have it all wrong about the big win theory. We have ourselves right where we want to be not where DR wants us to be.Believe me you think they want to face us now. I am sure when they saw the schedule they were thinking great after the beating they will take from SB we will get them down and out but now they get us like a freight train going down hill at full speed. Coming off that big win and at the same time instilling in the Men in Blue that they can beat anyone when they put their mind and efforts into it.Believe me Hags will not let them settle on this win and have a let down. As for the talent alone , remember we do it as a team with a few talented individuals but as a team with pleanty of heart and soul. Also NY is correct we are not Bishop " WE ARE AMAT" .

okay let's review...WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT????

"not world beater"... St. Bonnies was #3 in the State of California which happens to produce some of the finest overall talent in the country!

Every aspect of the game is just as important as the next... turnovers and special teams are by design not teh virtue of good fortune...all earned Fred...all earned.

Amat beat St. Boonie's in OT...when a 24 pt under dog takes you to over time...he's already kicked your AZZ!!!!

Lastly Fred comparing Damien and West Covina to St. Bonnie's, a perrenial State powerhouse, is analogous to comparing a golf cart to a Porsche!.. and yes this comparson though harsh is accurate as we spak today.

Every game Bishop Amat has from here on in is winnable after making the plays against St. Bonnie's....youre right Fred Boise St cant beat Oklahoma and compete for a Nation Championship...or can they?

Boise State is ranked #5 in the country TODAY! So Fred you never know....well in your case is more true tahn just a throw away line.

FredJ said:

Thanks for the lesson NY, but in this town, there is only one Bishop.

FredJ said:

What Bishop Amat did on Friday was amazing, don't get me wrong. But I'm also realistic enough to know that it took a timely kickoff return and interception by DJ for this to happen. On paper, St. Bonny's is still better, but the Lancers made the plays to win, just like they did against West Covina and Damien, both wins, but not blowouts. The Lancers are extremely well coached, especially on the D-Line, but they're not world beaters. Diamond Ranch has played a tough schedule, and played everyone tough, so we shall see.

I love Los Altos and i hope they do beat La Serna, but its hard to think they will win with Aguilar in the sideline. If Los Altos wants to have a successful season they need a coach with experience. Los Altos is in desperate need of a new coach that can bring the old Los Altos back, back when we actually made the playoffs and teams in the Miramonte feared us.
