Girls Volleyball Top 10: St. Lucy’s continues to rule the nest; Walnut pink slips Bonita

The number on St. Lucy’s setter Jackie Macy’s jersey says it all. The Regents are still No. 1

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TOP 10
1. St. Lucy’s (15-3)
2. Bonita (9-5)
3. South Hills (11-5)
4. Walnut (12-4)
5. Los Altos (11-4)
6. Glendora (6-3)
7. San Dimas (13-4)
8. Ganesha (14-4)
9. La Puente (9-10)
10. Gladstone (17-6)

Notes: St. Lucy’s continues to earn the top ranking after sweeping its fifth consecutive opponent. Bonita continues to pressure the Regents, also winning two matches in six games. The Bearcats should be tested against No. 4 Walnut. They can earn some brownie points with a sweep, but I wouldn’t count on it. South Hills got the upper hand with a five-game victory over Walnut, but the rematch is in the 909. Los Altos moves up to No. 5 with its five-game win over South Hills, but how are the Conquerors stretched to five games against Diamond Ranch two nights later? Glendora slips after losing to Ayala on Monday. The Tartans have left little margin for error if they want to remain in the Sierra League race. The Valle Vista League is San Dimas’ to lose after sweeping Ganesha. La Puente cracks into the top 10 with a four-game win at Gladstone, which was barely in the match.

Update: Walnut def. Bonita 20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22 — The wild ride of the area schedule continued Tuesday night as the Mustangs, fresh off a five-game loss to San Antonio League rival South Hills, rebounded with a win over Bonita. Walnut had four players with at least five kills, including Samantha Sheller with 12 and Leau Quiocho with 11. Allie LaPierre had 17 for Bonita, but the Mustangs were able to slow her down in games two and three to hold off the Bearcats. Bonita also got 16 from Katie Kirby.
