Alemany's Dean Herrington says of Bishop Amat in comparing them to Oaks Christian, "I think they are a more well-rounded football team."
Bishop Amat just got enough big pat on the back, this time from Alemany coach Dean Herrington, who told the L.A. Times the Lancers are better than, gulp, Oaks Christian, the top-ranked team in the state in some polls, and No. 5 nationally by USA Today. Bishop Amat defeated Alemany 36-14. Oaks Christian defeated Alemany 28-17 in the seaon opener.

rgd2626,
Man look at you, your freaking out with the name calling etc. It was a total honest question to Fred, as he has posted his new thread, he has answered the question but somehow seems to think it sound sillys in his choice. He still sticks by his choice of CO, which is cool, his opinion. rgd2626, relax it is all about HS football and blog opinions here, dont take it so personal.
Thanks Joe, some people do get it.
rgd2626 - I think it's a fair enough question, given this thread topic where a coach who has played both Amat and the top team in the state in some polls says Amat is better - yet Fred had a topic on October 8 before the DR blowout, followed by the St Paul blowout and then the Loyola win that said,
"I know I'm going to get hammered for taking Charter Oak over Bishop Amat, but I still believe in a head-to-head, the Chagers edge them out."
He said that even though he had Amat ranked #1 he thought CO would win. He hasn't chimed in if his opinion changed. It would just be pretty interesting if a coach like Herrington says this - and Fred still were to say "what can I say, I still like Charter Oak"
Lancer R
That is exactly how you meant it. Your an ass,its because of people like you that others dislike Amat, its not the winning or tradition its the idiots like you!!!
So save your lies and (i didnt mean it like that) to yourself, You have allways been that way.
FWIW, Oaks Christian is a great school but it's not a Catholic school.
I was asking Fred not you yahoos, and by the way West Covina was the secong game of the season, Amat was not clicking on all cylinders yet. As you can see Amat is really playing well and Fred made that statement early on, because he has not answered me leads me to think he has had a change of heart and would pick Amat over CO and or SH on a neutral field after seeing us through 7 games. This was a legit question to "Fred" and was never intended to stir up a heated exchange betwwen Amat and CO followers. Do not get so bent. Good Luck to all SGV schools tonite.
tcbruin,
You got that right . There many Bishops but there is only one AMAT. AMAT will shine tonite . Good luck to Men in Blue against Loyola tonite . First league game so let's start it of with a win.
Lance R.
This article is about Bishop Amat, why do need to throw out the Amat vs. CO fodder again? Let it rest bro, Amat is having a fantastic year. No need to start all that we are better then you are crap again.
So because Bishop Amat is putting a stomp on every team they play (remember they didnt stomp on WC) you would believe that CO can't match up with them... LOL... So u can say the same of SH in comparison to Bishop Amat, cuz Bishop barely got by WC, and SH put a whoopin on WC, then SH should beat Bishop Amat... LOL... Too much :)
Withness, looked for the comments and they are GONZO. Do not know what happened to them.
Vince McMahon and EVERYONE else, it's Bishop Amat or Amat, NOT bishop. Bishop is 280 miles North of Bishop Amat. Thank you.
Bishop has a great team but I still wouldn't rank them up there with the best teams from the state. Sure they have beat St. Bonnie and Alemany but the rest have been sub par programs. If they go 9-1 then no doubt they are a top 10 team in the state.
Catholic schools looking out for one another in the press. Amat / Oaks Christian good game can go either way. Sportsbook Amat-7
Division X
To Fred Robledo,
Do you still think Charter Oak can be victorious over Bishop Amat on a neutral field this year, after seeing what Bishop Amat has done to very high caliber teams such as St. Bonnies,Alameny and runner up to Charter Oak last year Diamond Ranch? Any retract on that comment or do you still believe in CO over Amat?
tcbruin- I cant find the blog you speak of on the LA Times prep website? Can you so kindly direct me or cut & paste it please?
Thank you!
Wow that is an absolutely amazing thing to hear from a guy who has a name that is well respected in the world of high school football.
Having said that however, I would caution against reading to much into this and the reason for that is that we must remember that Alemany played Oaks Christian in the first game of the year while they played Amat a bit further down the road.
Big difference.
Also, I do believe that anyone of those top teams are more than desirving of being placed as number one, but unfortunately, as in the college BCS rankings, there is no true way of ever knowing for sure who is best.
Once you have read the entire article continue to the comments/blog section.
Boy! I'll tell you what, this is probably the last thing Hags and staff wanted to read. I can guarantee you that Loyola will be using this as fodder.
i would agree with coach herrington's assessment. i wonder, though, if he is somewhat motivated by making the loss to bishop amat look like a "good loss". just a thought, but still would take bishop amat over oaks christian.
Thanks coach herrington, but I dont think the most people really think Oaks Christian should be #1.
Number one should be Edison, Mission Viejo or Servite at this point in the season. Isnt the Northwest division in D7? Here's their polls:
NORTHWEST DIVISION
RANK SCHOOL (LEAGUE) RECORD
1. Oaks Christian (Tri-Valley) 7-0
2. Junipero Serra (Del Rey) 7-0
3. St. Joseph/S.M. (Los Padres) 7-0
4. Cathedral (Del Rey) 7-0
5. Nordhoff (Tri-Valley) 6-1
6. Pioneer Valley (Los Padres) 6-1
7. Harvard-Westlake (Del Rey) 5-2
8. Santa Ynez (Los Padres) 5-2
9. Templeton (Los Padres) 5-2
10. Nipomo (Los Padres) 4-3
