Bishop Amat has filed transfer paperwork on Gonzalez; a decision could take up to two weeks
As you know by now, former Glendora receiver Wallace Gonzalez has enrolled at Bishop Amat, and the school has moved quickly in filing a hardship request to CIF for him to become eligible. The forms were filed on Monday, but CIF spokesperson Thom Simmons said it could take up to two weeks before a ruling is made. For those wondering what his chances of becoming eligible are, read what Mr. Rules himself, Joe Amat, wrote on a recent thread by clicking this thread....
Joe Amat wrote: Wallace's paperwork is in at the CIF office and the decision is in their hands and pending .
Remember CIF is more concerned with why you chose the new school than with why you left the previous school.... unless withdrawal is listed as a discipline issue - which this wasn't. How paperwork from GHS is handled is crucial and that is, and should remain, confidential.
What he does have going for him is his sister already being at Amat makes it the most legitimate choice of schools for a non-athletic reasons. If their Hardship Waiver is granted it needs to be determined that the hardship was "an unforeseeable, unavoidable and uncorrectable act, condition or event that causes the imposition of a severe and non-athletic burden upon the student or his/her family." As in any case - how the evidence is initially presented is of utmost importance. It is a tough hill to climb, although there are a few particular reasons for requests that seem rubber stamped more often than others.
But even if the waiver is granted, I don't forsee him contributing for a few weeks... of course we do have a few weeks before our first league game. His size certainly gives him an advantage at tight end/receiver and we could go to some double tight formations with him and Tierney that would make us versatile. A big target like that sure creates other options that we could use in the red-zone that may have made things easier in those situations than it was against St Bonaventure.
For the kids sake, I hope it all works out... It will be good for him

For those that do not know this was denied today.
See him next year.

Wrong, I am the only REAL TROJAN MAN..
You are just an Trojan wanna B (Wallace SR.)
Let me see if I understand this, the CIF Office only gets involved in evaluating athletic motivation IF some school (e.g. Duarte) breaks the "coaches code"? Does this make the CIF Office a real regulatory body or just the coach's ho??? You tell me.
REAL TROJAN MAN ?
There is only 1 ...
Fight On

If Amat didn't do anything to Dorian Wells on his transfer, Glendora will not either. There is a coach's code out there not to ruin a kid. And Glendora's athletic department knows that they will get a transfer one day and wouldn't want the tables turned on them.
The Little Man working in the background.... said:
Couldn't have said it any better! BJ is a good kid off the field, but has alot to learn on the field and how to treats coaches and players with respect.
I guess the apple doesnt fall far from the tree!
One thing everyone is forgetting is that Andy Nieto tried to hire Jr's dad to be Amat's hitting coach prior to Jr enrolling at Glendora HS.
His dad DID NOT pass the background and Nieto wasn't allowed to bring him on board. Hence, he ended up at Glendora HS, much to his mom's and step-dad's approval.
Fast-Forward to today... the kid has issues at Glendora and "all of a sudden" ends up at Amat? This is Nieto at his best... Just like he's tried to get kids from other High Schools to transfer to Amat a 100 times over. (Remember the Eddie McKiernan to Amat rumor of a few years back??)
How does the Dad not pass the background, then last Friday is roaming the sidelines with Gimp himself during the Amat/St. Bonnie game??? Showing him off like a new puppy!!!
Then you don't think that Manzo, Amat's AD will not go along with his buddy Nieto and complete all the paperwork??? That means more $$$ for Manzo!!!
Laughing at this whole scenario!!
Sad thing... the kid is actually a very nice/polite kid....
According to BA they have filed a hardship appeal on his behalf. If hew was kicked off the teams at Glendora for disciplinary reasons that WOULD NOT be sufficient to grant the exemptions and would in fact be considered an athletically motivated reason for the transfer.
A hardship must be unforeseeable, uncorrectable, and non athletically related. It is hard to see how the circumstances as described on this blog meet that standard.
The fact that his step sister goes to Amat is largely irrelevant, especially if they do not live together as was mentioned earlier.
Of course there could very well be things in the record none of us are aware of, but the facts as stated here would pretty easily result in a denial, meaning he would not be eligible for football or baseball until a full calendar year from the transfer date.
Wallace Gonzalez had no intention of attending BA while he was at Glendora. Hence, his transfer was not athletically motivated but due to disciplinary reasons. This added to the fact that his sister is already attending BA spells CIF approval. This a completely different scenario than the Canadas.
You will all see Gonzalez in a BA uniform THIS season.
Jcaz, I totally disagree with you on transfers. The rule on transfers is called the Perry Klein rule. If I remember correctly, Perry Klein was a kid who tranfered schools accordding to what season it was. So he went to one school for football, another for basketball, and another for either baseball or volleyball (Sorry, I can't remember which it was). That wasn't the way high school athletics was supposed to be. So if we let kids just transfer when ever they get their feelings hurt or they can't get their way, then aren't we buying into that whole spoiled pampered athelete at an early age theory? Again I'm not a fan of kids transfering but I do think that CIF could control this situation by clearly defining their rule and following it. I also think that if they allow that kid to play then the 2 South Hills kids should be allowed to also play.
SGV Ouuuut!
every transfer has a life of its own. the Gonzales situation is nothing like the Canada situation and can't be compared. Canadas spoke openly about it being an athletic transfer before any paperwork. Gonzales has been having problems at GHS since day 1. maybe they were largely his fault-but still problems. if off the field incidents equal on field incidents - maybe he should try another place with more discipline.
I was reading some of the older posts and correct me if im wrong. Didnt he get kicked off the team first and then he sat with administration and his family decided to have him transfer. I had a situation like that when i was in elemantary school, where i was asked to enroll in another school or get kicked out! Those were my options, so I was enrolled in another school so an expulsion wouldn't show up on my school records. If thats the case this all happened over athletics, one because he was kicked off the football team and two because it was severe enough for the administration to get involved. This is totally different than the canada boys, their mom screwed it all up for them. I still dont see CIF approving this move, even if he has a sister/step sister what ever the case might be already at BA.
Not sure what every knows about the process but this is what will take place. Amat's AD will file paperwork which will force Glendora's AD and both of his coaches to fill out paperwork as well. On these new forms both coaches will have to sign the paperwork stating that they believe that this move was not athletically motivated and there was no prior contact made by Amat. If they do not sign this section they will produce evidence that this was athletically motivated and/or there was prior contact. If they sign this part it is solely up to CIF to make the decision. If they say it was athletically motivated and/or prior contact was made CIF will automatically deny his transfer and it will have to be up to the family to prove otherwise. Either way good luck with this one and I do not see CIF saying of to this if the deny the Canada boys.
I think that allot of folks who follow this thread regularly know pretty much were I stand when it comes to transfers. I believe that they should be allowed to do so without any restrictions what so ever.
Interestingly, this time, because it involves an Amat player, the topic is of course much closer to home for me. The way I see it, if Glendora had already gone ahead and cut their ties to this kid, regardless of the circumstances, then why in the world would they make an effort to contest his attempt to play for that football team?
Now, of course, right now this discussion is all about a petition to the CIF, and what they will decide on, and what a ruling by them can mean to not only this kid, but to all the others who have tried unsuccessfully to transfer prior to this season.
And in all fairness, there has not been anything at all written about Glendora’s roll in this thing so far, but somehow I just cant get over the feeling that there might be more than a few folks over there who would make an effort to try an prevent this kid from playing at Amat this year.
Now, I could be completely wrong on this, but after seeing how all the other transfers have gone down so far, would it really be out of the ordinary to not expect something like that to happen ?
Anyway, we shall see who or what ends up lining up on which side of the ball in the not to distant future, but I believe that if there is going to be a denial for this kid, that it won’t come from the CIF offices but from some other place.
ipso f***ing facto - yeah I'm sure the CIF likes mexicans mo' than the bruthas. That must be it. it's a lot more realistic that he's fleeing lily white Glendora than the Canadas getting out of Duarte.
NM.
cif faces a whopping legal n pocketbook inferno if they approve dis foo and DISS the canadas. make the OJ simpson trial look like a petty crime case!
Well his sister is already a student at BA. He would be joining a family member. Does that have an impact?
tellyouwhat-your kid can go wherever he wants. no one is stopping anyone from going to a school.
if cif aproves this transfer, i will sue them for not letting my kid go where he wants. dont belive they would let this happen
Dont even waste your time with this guy. He will not make an impact this year because he will not play. I dont think Glendora will let him off the hook so easily, just the way it happened at Duarte.
Fred
It will never happen!
Joe
1/2 Sister! Two separate households!
Change of Guardianship?
Change of Address?
Then Hardship?
Safety Issues? Right!
Family Burden?
Not athletically motivated?
I guess I should clarify the above before the nitpickers come out of the woodwork.
When *determining if a transfer is "athletically motivated"* it is more important to CIF why you chose the new school than with why you left the previous school.
When it comes to granting Hardship Waivers *why you left the previous school and how that is stated on paperwork* is the most important factor.
As I said it is a tough hill to climb and we'll find out soon enough. Good luck to all.
Joe
Hardship?
Please tell us with kind of hardship?
Most know alot more of what isn’t true in the forms submitted.
You may think it's better for a kid to have DADDY try and work the system, but not me!
How about the lack of disrespect for the coaches and players? How about the actions that led to his removal? How about the words shouted out to the players and coaches during films, before he was asked to leave?
Simply wrong Joe and the kid doesn’t learn or take responsibility for his actions? And that's good for a kid?
Maybe motivated just for Amat football Joe. I am sure CIF will get calls on this one!
Ohh Joe,
On this one I think you just don't know, all the facts! We will all see.
So stay tuned for the next episode of WGTV.
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out the transfer was entirely athletically motivated. If CIF approves this, they lose what little credibility they have left! The kid should me made to follow the rules and sit a year. Either that, or CIF should just abolish the rule. This has nothing to do with whether he was wrong or right or otherwise with Glendora. CIF has a rule and it should he enforced. THIS IS NOT HARDSHIP!!!!!!!!
