Breaking News: Wallace Gonzalez denied

| | Comments (50) |

Wallace Gonzalez's hardship transfer request to Bishop Amat was denied by CIF-Southern Section officials on Friday, ruling that Gonzalez is not eligible for any sports the remainder of the school year, including baseball. Gonzalez, a junior wide receiver, played one game for Glendora before leaving the team for reasons Tartans coach Mark Pasquarella described as "mutual." A week later, he left the school and enrolled at Bishop Amat.

WG SR couldnt move that fat A@@ frame if he wanted too! In the ring, he would go down in the first. No feet, can't move, slow, and really can't take a punch!

It looks like CIF rules are actually being enforced this year.

Cant Glendora just let this go?

He's moved on...for better or worst he was a 14 year old when this started....didn't a couple of 18 year old adults call him out? Great mentoring Tartans...you needed him, used him and blew his head up...it was always in your control....it's not like you didn't know he was coming or he suddenly grew into a phenom. WG has been on everyones radar since the fifth grade and you guys blew it...BIG TIME!

At least no one had to presses charges or anyone got seriously hurt....he might be a kid inside but a 245 lb six foot five punch must really do some damage and it's that why nothing ever really took place..

Same reason why SR. has all his teeth...now let it go already

Acutally GHS was the right prescription as you say for young Wallace. They felt they had to show him he wasn't the "man". He was FINALLY held accountable for his actions.
I will agree with you about the adults surrounding him in his life, parents ?, coaches, etc. These people inflated this kids head how great he is and it consumed him to the point he actually believed he was the "man" and when your the man you can do anything you want in practice and get away with it.
I wish the Tribune would stop bringing this subject up on a weekly basis and just move on !

just askin' said:

Kimbo - can a 15 yr old freshman really bring it on themselves? Or are the adults responsible for molding kids? you said it yourself,
"the coaches were drolling voer one another to have him playing at GHS, but he was GIVEN everything, including the chance to succeed. He chose not to be successful because he was "The Man""
who told him he was the man? sounds to me like the adults in his life let him down to this point. Parents, coaches, administrators. sounds like he is in need of discipline. maybe a year of no sports to find out he's not "the man" at a school with some discipline is just what the doctor ordered. clearly GHS was the wrong prescription.

Joe Amat, First Time again and all you others out there. He failed himself!

He had chance after chance after chance! You're right that the coaches were drolling voer one another to have him playing at GHS, but he was GIVEN everything, including the chance to succeed. He chose not to be successful because he was "The Man". Just ask him, he will tell you! HA!

That may be well said by first time again, but Wallace did it to himself! Dad, Mom, Step Dad, Step Mom, none of them were there when he was telling his teammates and coaches to F off!

It is a sad day when people don't listen to those who really know the truth. BJ was allowed to do the things he did, and no one did a thing to discourage it, including his parents. When upperclass teammates tried to school him they were over ridden by the coaches, They fail him, he was given priority over Soph,Jr,and Sr.'s, before he had proven he had any talent, and they bragged about it. At a time when he needed direction, He was made to feel superior. and when his teammates had enough, and the coaches could not control him any longer,They did something, but it was to little to late. So they packed his bags and moved him to Amat to start all over. I personaly think this is the best thing they could have done for BJ, he need the dicipline, structure and the enviroment that Amat will provide, he need to be where team mean something, and you have to earn your right to wear the uniforms.
BJ need Amat, Amat doesn't need BJ, if setting out help improve his attitude, this could just save him from a disastrous future. BJ is good kid with outstanding talents, Who has been misguided.
I just hope he doesn't get lost in all of this, and become a bitter young man, because the system that is suppose help him, failed him. The Parents that are suppost to guide him, let him down by encourging his behaivour,by blamming the system.
BJ sometime life give you a chance to be someone special you need to recognize that chance and take advantage of it.

Its pretty apparent you are guessing at what has happened here at Glendora. Maybe if you were in the stands and heard the entire "CRY BABY RAGE" you would understand. This kid has major ego and attitude issues and NO COACH, AND NO PROGRAM would or should put up with the crap. I will make an assumption here, AMAT won't stand for it either!

This is not an isolated case, happened in three different sports with three different coaches. I guess Pasq, Ledu, and Henley just dont know coaching? LMFAO!

Facts not opinions! Maybe CIF does understand the rules and a legit hardship and Amat was just hoping!

Lance R said:

G-Town,

Nobody is going to have a attitude just to have a attitude. Sounds like the Glendora coaches are in colusion in reguards to Wallace. Something made this kid lash out. It is a two street like a marriage, I am sure Wallace could be more workable but at the same time the coaches need to find and seek what makes this kid tick and turn him into a player. That is what "good" coaches do. Well he has the best coaching staff one can want to play for over there at Amat and if he stays he will get the opportunity to play for the best the SGV has to offer. If Wallace loses it there at Amat as well, then we will know Wallace is to blame for all his Shannangins. If he stars and contributes and there is no waves made at all well then Glendora you need to take a good look at yourself as a school and your coaches attitudes. This is not for Wallace just attending Amat but Any HS he chooses to play for from here on out.

G-town said:

Get a clue! Boss (three coaches in different sports) did a great job.

How about kid failed at his job! Attitude! FIRED just like in any job..

Lance R said:

My first post wishing Wallace luck is just that plain and simple hoping he plays his HS sports somewhere. I sure would like to see him there at Amat but like I said anything can happen from year to year. That's all I said then the Glendora idiot comes in and starts the his rude behavior knocking the kid. If he is much a malcontent as you claim, make no bones about it he will not be playing for Amat, they do not put up with that there as well. Time will tell if Wallace is for real or is he a prima donna? His past is his past so it goes one day at a time.

The anology here is when you get fired from your job your boss no longer thinks you can do the job for whatever reason.

When you the employee comes into the bosses office with his resignation letter telling him you will be moving on, found a new place of employment offering you higher wages and a better work enviroment etc etc. You as the employee are firing your boss and the company for whatever reason.

I believe Wallace is the employee here and Glendora being the boss and company just did a lousy job for this kid to move on. By the way he is not the only unhappy kid over there in Glendora sports, some are still there working for them but does not mean they are happy with the way the company is run. Wallace changed jobs thats all.

COChargerfan said:

My guess is that he returns to Glendora HS real soon so that he can play baseball this year. This is really his only option because there appears to be no chance of him winning any CIF appeal and I doubt that he wants to sit around and just practice for the next year at Amat.

This isn't the FIRST sport he had issues with. I know its Glendora fault. LMAO!

Now you can have him if he stays????

Lance R said:

Well rules are rules. What could have been, had Wallace been cleared to play this year for Amat. As a Amat Alumni/backer, thats ok, the hope was there for this young man and we must now wait for next year to see Wallace as a senior play sports for Amat, if he stays.? Anything can happen from this year to next year, heres hoping the Young man stays at Amat conditions himself and comes out full force his senior year. If he should choose to go elsewhere I still wish him luck in his athletic HS days, after all he is just a HS player looking to play sports and enjoy his HS playing days. I dont take it too serious like some do bashing on this kid for whatever reason. Good luck to Wallace, I hope to see you next year as one of The Mighty Men that wear the Blue and Gold.

know the rules said:

Hey Joel SMith - know the rules before you start blaming GHS. A player is automatically ineligible for 1 year when transferring after start of 10th grade without a valid change of residence (sometimes that doesn't work...ask the Canada's). THe family then has to apply for a hardship which is an avoidable, uncorrectable, non-athletically motivated reason for the transfer. What possible hardship would have caused WG from transferring to BA the same week that he got kicked off the football team. This was a slam dunk case for CIF and they would have looked rally stupid if they approved the hardship and opened them up to litigation from many other denials in the past and in the future. WG is not special and neither is BA...the rules have to be followed.

Joel Smith said:

CIF, Why are matters different when Mater Dei is involved? They always manage to do whatever they please! What did the Glendora cry babies tell you? Glendora took one of Bishop Amat's best baskerball players a few years back. Glendora did not cry then. Oh, OH, how fast we forget!

Well, the good thing is that Wallace Gonzalez will still have 2 good seasons as a Lancer because he's only a sophomore. The combination of QB Rio Ruiz and Wallace Gonzalez along with returning RB Jay Anderson will be unstoppable next year.

That's Nieto's style. Your boy BJ, hit what .231 with 2 HRs and 17 Strike OUTS!
FYI, E V has left San Diego so scholarship is also gone.
Dude, go back to school and get your GED.

CIF blue book says, one year penalty starts at first day of transfer or date of denial to exept
special circumstances.

Michael Jordan said:

It is time,

Rules are set so teams have a competitive playing field. I support the rules because it gives a chance for medium size schools to compete in CIF. Players know the consequences of changing schools and I wasn't surprised that this kid got denied. He played, got kicked out the team and next week decided to change schools. It's a case by case situation but for the most part it helps out the athletic playing field.

it is time said:

WHEN WILL WE GET PISSED OF, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, IF WE REALLY LOOK AT THIS C.I.F BUSINESS OF NOT ALLOWING KIDS TO PLAY IT DOESNT MAKE SCENSE. FOR NO CRIMINAL OR DISCIPLINARY REASONS WE PENALIZE GOOD, OTHERWISE LAW ABIDING PEOPLE FROM PLAYING SPORTS.

COACHES CAN MOVE FROM YEAR TO YEAR, TEACHERS CAN MOVE, EVEN ADMINISTRATORS CAN MOVE AROUND FROM YEAR TO YEAR, BUT BE A 16 YEAR OLD KID TRYING TO GET TO A BETTER PLACE OR SITUATION AND YOUR SCREWED.

IN MOST STATES A 14 YEAR OLD KID CAN HAVE AN ABORTION WITHOUT PARENTAL APPROVAL BUT TRY TO MOVE TO A DIFFERENT HIGH SCHOOL TO PLAY A SPORT AND YOUR HASH IS SETTLED.

AND WHAT ABOUT ALL THE NEW MUSIC AND ART SCHOOLS OPENING UP ALL OVER SO CAL? WE WILL ALLOW ALL THESE KIDS TO MOVE TO A DIFFERENT SCHOOL AND PARTICIPATE WITHOUT ANY PENALTY, WHY? ARENT THEY LEAVING THEIR SCHOOL FOR A BETTER SITUATION AND BETTER OPORTUNITY? ARE THESE KIDS NOT BEING ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN BAND OR MATH CLUBS OR DEBATE TEAMS FOR A FULL YEAR, IF THEY MOVE TO A NEW SCHOOL?

THE ONLY REASON I CAN SEE IS THE CONTROL OF GROUPS OF PEOPLE. WHY NOT ALLOW A KID TO PLAY WHERE HE WANTS TO PLAY, WHAT IS THE CRIME? IT IS THE PARENTS AND CHILDS LIFE WHY HAVE A GROUP OF OTHER PEOPLE DECIDE WHAT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DO IN SPORTS?

IF A PLAYER HAS A GOOD SCHOOL RECORD AND GOOD GRADES AND PROVES TO BE A GOOD CITIZEN WHY CANT HE BE ALLOWED, IF THE NEW SCHOOL WILL HAVE HIM TO TRANSFER?

THE STORIES I HAVE READ ABOUT THE CANADA BROTHERS, AND OTHERS OVER THE YEARS, I WONDER WHY SOME WOULD BE SO EAGER TO SCREW A KID OR FORCE HIM TO STAY IN A CERTAIN SITUATION, WHAT IS THE REASON.

IF MY JOB ISNT CUTTING IT I CAN MOVE ON, IF A TEACHER IN A DISTRICT DOESNT LIKE THE PAY HE CAN MOVE TO ANOTHER ONE IF AN ATHELETIC DIRECTOR DOESNT LIKE HIS DUTIES HE CAN MOVE ON, BUT BE A KID IN A BAD AREA OR A DOWN SCHOOL AND THATS TOUGH, OR GOD FORBID HAVE A COACH WHO ISNT VERY GOOD OR WHO YOU DONT GET ALONG WITH AND THATS JUST TOO BAD.

I DONT HAVE A FAVORITE SCHOOL OR EVEN LIKE ANY SCHOOL MENTIONED, BUT PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IS THE CRIME IN A KID MOVING TO A NEW SCHOOL AND PLAYING THE GAME HE LOVES AT THE VARSITY LEVEL IF THE NEW SCHOOL WILL ACCEPT HIM.

WHAT DO THESE LAWS REALLY DO, AND WHY ARE THEY REALLY IN PLACE, AND WHO BENEFITS AND WHO GETS THE SHAFT?
