Read closer. First line I wrote was "... Agree or Disagree... ". randy's post that had some facts to back up what he was saying. That's a good take. A good take isn't just one I agree with. You've had plenty of good takes... just happen to be wrong!:?) But that's what could be great about this blog.

As randy said, when he gets ticked sometimes the"... little bastard in (him) comes out ..." and all we get the name calling back and forth. And that's how it's been ... fine... added a little spice and variety, maybe sprinkle that in with a solid take... but I'd rather hear what someone thinks, some facts behind what they think, so I at least know why they think that way.

You know I'm not into someone stating something as fact when it is a really rumor, myth, old-wives tale, urban legend or just what someone "feels' or "thinks".

randy and My Friend found time to get together understand each other and at least "agreed to disagree". That's the understanding that you and I have been trying to get to. Your answers to some of the "educational" questions were a little enlightening. You'll find more on that on that thread later today ... no time now

When did I play TB? joe mama read carefully...I was the pulling guard..and if you get your hands on a Salesian annual...opps ..year book there is a clean ear hole block that makes the hole look like a bus could go threw it!! funny thing is every one signed my book by saying...you lucky dog!! nice block...worked at UPS with a SUervisor and when I told him we beat Serra...YES THAT SERRA...he said BS!!! To State Qualifying teams...two CIF titles and how many ALL CIF ballers last year? Besides ever year a Salesian football palyers gets invited to play in the SGV All Star game...and they have represnted well....ask around

Randy...here's the answer to the riddle...those 3000+ student schools are pretty damn good. Wait until kh's Glendora basketball team gets their butt's kicked by those IE teams and he'll be a believer.

I wish i had more takes like that, but the little bastard in me comes out whenever i feel like someone is taking a few punches at DBHS and i get all agro......i have a U8 soccer game at 6pm in whittier, or i would be heading out towards the SGV for some football......i have seen Amat the last two weeks in a row, they look so much better this year, its scary......i would luv to find frank at the damien/glendora game, but i wouldnt get there till halftime....i think my best bet is to head south at 7(when the soccer game ends) and head towards Santa Ana to catch Mater Dei/Servite.....they start at 730, i would be there by 8 ish......I guess i could also watch Santa Fe whup Whittiers ass.....man i luv Friday nights!!!!!!!!!!

I have a soft spot for Alemany Joey. My first start was against Alemany and they were favored by 21 from what we heard. I told the story once but Mikey decided he not only knows the future but the past as well. Reminds me of the cranks that want to see Obama's birth certificate who can't get past the fact that a Hawaii newspaper ANNOUNCED his birth 40 plus years ago...lol

Anyway Ruedaflores had us "motivated" and he told me before the game.."after the first 3 downs you're in with Rey Mero", (a STUD who played with a torn tricep muscle)

We beat them 28-0 as we hit them with one counter after another...I sprung 3 of them for TDs...it was crazy.

SO I really want to see Alemany go down again...lol But then again...Gano needs to win or sit players down for the year...I never was much for players who practice in at 50% no matter how important they think they are...I mean at 1-6 does it matter if you step on toes? Some players/parents makes excuses for that stuff...I don't and if they were my kids I'm sit them myself.

My father once told me after he saw my best friend wear my Letterman Jacket without me knowing..."I thought you had more pride than that. Get your jacket back and throw it away....it obviously means nothing to you. What ever he did in that jacket reflects on you...how could you let him wear the jacket? Dont you have any Pride?" he was near tears and I only seen my Dad cried once before when his Dad died. When I told him I didn't know he had it and I was afraid someone stole it he said.."Are you lying?" I said no and he drove me to pick it up...right n the spot...it meant that much to him. On the drive home he said..."He's a coward...he'll betray you some day"...and he was right....he did the summer of my senior year and i was kicked out of Salesian..on his word I did something he did...like an idiot I wouldn't rat him out. As part of my "deal" to stay I played football and was moved to Oline at 5"11 164 lbs...with no line experience...it was brutal, horrible and ultimately the most rewarding when I finally went from 5th string to starter to game captain...LOL in 5 games...man I never knew linemen had it so rough but I learned quick...it's about heart, balls and will that separates the men from the boys!!!

At our senior banquet they called all the players names but his. One by one we received our LETTERS and he sat there stunned with his family wondering what happened. 10 games no letter, no clue..just payback for being a snake.

I tell my kids...you don't have to be the best but you can never give less than your best....too much pride in our family to half step on the field or court...any coach that gives us half a chance won't be sorry as my two sons awards can attest...

You know...what the heck...I'll go see Amat beat Alemany at least I know you guys will never quit....EVER!!! AMAT 73...what side will you be on?

Whine of the foothills...The Mighty Glendora Tartans have gone 18-7 in non-league play the last 5 years. In Sierra league play they are now 20-6 in the last 5 years. They havent had a losing season in I dont how long, max preps doesnt go further back than the 04-05 season (someone show me another source if you can).

5 straight playoff appearances (certainly nothing to be ashamed of), with 3 first round exits, and the last two seasons they made it to the second round game but got whacked by 40 points in each game.

Are they the Buffalo Bills of the SGV (as someone eloquently refered to the Santa Fe Chiefs over on that other blog as) or not?

I am not hating on Pasqy. Lets be certain of this. But what was his record at Damien, and when was that? I'm sure theres a couple of you out here who know that info off the top of your heads. I am pretty sure he took Ayala to the finals in the mid '90s, but i cant recall for damn sure. Ayala went to the finals 3 times in the mid '90s.

He has proven to be a "winner" of a coach and the few times i have met with him he was very humble and seemed like a bitchen guy. But lets not kid ourselves, Glendora may sit atop the Sierra league, but they are no threat to anyone outside of that come November. Thats a fact. Is it the kids?? Are they a buncha soft spoiled rich kids (upper middle class for sure)??? Is it Pasqys offense??? What is it?? Why cant they hang with the Inland teams??? They sure seem to put the points during the year, they sure know how to stop teams from Sept till early Nov. but I mean WTF? Why cant they raise it to the next level??

Whine of the foothills why dont you answer that??? I think the Glendorans who run the show at that school are quite content to settle for his 80 percent winning clip and running a seemingly clean program (at least thats the perception from the outside).

Why does the engine just fall apart year after year in the playoffs?? The kids, the program, that area is obviously generating talent year after year. They were arguably the best team in this league. Is he the Marv Levy of the SGV?? NO, cuz at least Marv got to the big game.

It befuddles me as to why they hit a brick wall in Nov. Cuz they kick the crap outta everyone till then. Close but no cigar. Where does the buck stop??? I've never been to one of Glendoras pre-game tail gating back slapping party. I dont know what kind of that meirda they have with each other but they obviously have two clicks out there. One who kisses Pasqys ass, and the other that wonders about an craves for more success in the playoffs. Why dont we go check it out tonight?? Call me to confirm.

In the 13 yrs between the '85 championship and the '98 championship, was Lou Farrar a good coach or a great coach?

For my money MIKE THE CLONE is right, the real prize is the CIF title and not some league patch, at least if your aspiration is to be the very best in your division and not just one of the good teams that won league or got a playoff spot. I’m saying, do you want to be the Lakers or Clippers?

Here’s my take on coaches and perhaps this is MIKE’s point too…”good” coaches win games with “great” teams while “great” coaches can win with only “good” teams…that’s the difference. So what happens in the real world is that good coaches with great teams often get beat by a great coach with only a good team. So, the moral of the story is that if you have a great coach, then regardless of the players you’re going to win your share of games year in and year out and when the great team comes along…you’ll get your title.

The problem is that there aren’t that many great coaches running around and it is even more rare that one of them is looking for a job especially at the high school level. Heck, the NFL teams have boatloads of money to hire just about any coach in the world and year in and year out no one compares to Bill Belichick (I’m a SD Charger fan so I have no love for the Patriots). Perhaps, this is why some NFL owners hire young smart guys as coaches to see if they can hit the jackpot with the next coming of Belichick.

I have never spoken with the man and certainly do not want to imply that he is not a hard working person that is trying his best but I caught two years of Coach P during his Damien years and what I saw was a good coach…just not great and the former Damien players that I know felt the same way. The question that I do not know the answer because I don’t follow the team closely is does he improve every year or is it just more of the same? MIKE and RANDY (curious, are you “come on blue” Randy from COYBSA?) have this answer…and just maybe this is the issue.

randy what is Mike right about? Specificlly. The"get it" part? Glendora under Coach P have improved every year. They play well almost every time I see them and yet Mike is not happy.
Mike be specific for once and say it like you know it...what should Coach P. do differently and how is this year's current team better with your specific recommendations.

As far as playing in the Miramonte league that's just nonsense. Coming off a possible 3-peat D2 Sierra League title run you want to play down?

Maybe MTC has an idea how Glendora could have all 10 games at home? The Pride of The Foothills....more like the Whine Of The Foothills. MIke won't you ahve to travel if you challenge for a CIF title every year?

Mike please dazzle us with honest recommendations specific to this team and maybe even past GHS teams. Heck your son's senior season they went undefeated in league...and please don't mention the pooch KO please...lol

One of the sad things for the SGV about the decision is that we LOSE TWO teams in the Southeast football playoffs by merging the leftover Miramonte and San Antonio. We presently have SIX spots and now the 7 team "San Miramonte" League will get FOUR berths.

Of course the Valle Vista going from 6 to 7 teams now gets FOUR spots instead of three in the Mid-Valley playoffs.

Bottom line - resulting in a net loss of 1 SGV team in next years football playoffs.

In its last 3 meetings with Upland Glendora is 1-2.

During that time Upland was an average baseline team.

You figure it out.

In order to save travel expenses, Glendora can schedule non-league games nearby.

Charter Oak has the Mayor's Trophy. Come and get it. :)

I still think Glendora should have been allowed to stay in a league with the local teams but agree that the "cost" and "time" travel arguments are not any different than most of the other schools have to deal with. Heck, Los Altos and Wilson are only like 10 or 12 miles from CO but for those of you that have done it, it's a nasty 10 or 12 miles...the kids leave at like 1:50 for a 3:15 game...and then the return trip in rush hour traffic is like 45 minutes....I'll take the 20 miles on the 210 heading east on Friday night over that 10 miles to and from Wilson and Los Altos...we all have experienced that distance traveling around Los Angeles County is only half the story when it comes to time. And, I have done the trip a dozen times over the past few years because CO's baseball and basketball teams have played either against or at Rancho and Los Osos in tourneys and other non-league games.

Thanks Prep Fan. I haven't noticed everyone agreeing with Glendora about the travel issue. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

Glendora would probably ask to be in the Montview, and I'm sure it would all be about being close to their opponents.

Why do people think Claremont should still be in the Baseline when they haven't been able to win at any sports in years AND they are smaller than the other schools. Glendora is a better fit and hopefully they will realize this in the next four years.

Mike the Clone and his flunky followers will have a sit down with Principal Bruce and other distinguished Glendora luminaries and push for Mike the Clone to become the next Tartan Head Coach seeing as Coach P. has only won two back to back Sierra League titles and will be the favored team to d it again...a virtual 3-peat!

Yet Mike the Clone has an opinion that Coach P.....a two time Tribune COY and the last area coach to actually beat the Bishop Amat Lancers is nothing more than an average coach.

Mikey, I'll reserve the right for the opinion to be one of your flunkies instead of yours seeing how well your boy did under his tutelage and the many Glendora jackets that have Sierra League Champion patches because of your ever present advice...

so now Coach P needs help....wow ...classic!

Good move for the brahmas getting out of the sierra league. They will need to schedule only 3 preseason games and hope they continue to play Brea and Troy. Hopefully they will not play Charter Oak next year after 2 lopsided games. Coach Gilbert should look to play either Ayala(continue the past rivalry),Chino Hills, or Chino hs.
Glendora should be the #3 team out of the baseline next year in football and basketball. In baseball they should finish #2 behind Upland.
Colony should have an easy time in their league. Charter Oak and South Hills both with a lot of transfers will make the sierra league even tougher next year.
I think the committee did a good job trying to even things out. Glendora used to be in the baseline and Claremont got the shaft.

Not too long ago the Sierra was DII ball. Baseline and Sierra leagues also being within the same division it makes no sense moving them to the Baseline. From what I understand Glendora didn't apply for relief to go down to the Miramonte but to stay within their current league. Leagues should be based on Geography as well as competitive equity. Since all of the schools in the Sierra are much closer it makes no sense to move them.

Geography figured it out that Glendora and Chino Hills should swap places, RaiderAlum figured it out also and there are others.

The really pitiful thing is that bloggers can figure this out better than the HS administrators that are the CIF decision makers. Maybe, the answer is to replace who is voting with a panel that is comprised of some public panel…guys that follow the teams for a living (and passion) like Fred J., Miguel Melendez, Eric Sondheimer, an expert from MaxPreps and CalPreps, etc…seems that this would result in a more rational lineup…just a thought.

While looking through my football goggles I think Glendora got screwed, but take into account the success of the other sports. Maybe.

What hole did you come out of to think Glendora is not the sgv? I had to laugh when I read your logic behind your statement. Because the city signs say "pride of the foothills" makes you believe we are not part of the valley? The team that should of taken our spot in the Baseline is either Chino Hills or Claremont!

Since the conversation has moved up here and the number one complaint of the Glendora folks is travel, I have copied my earlier post from the thread below:

Of course there are politics involved in this, and I have no idea what friends or enemies Glendora has or has made in this process. But the excuse about travel that I keep hearing from Glendora fans is overstated.

The number one criteria by far in assessing these leagues is and should be competitive equity.

La Verne Lutheran travels to Riverside and Wildomar to play league games. The desert public schools have unbelievable travel times. Almost any group of small schools you look at will have travel schedules large public schools would be shocked at.

If all of these schools can afford it, so can Glendora. Is it more inconvenient, absolutely.

Many arguing against the change have conceded that Glendora would be competitive in its new league. I think that extra travel is a small price to pay for that.

The last time there was a nine team league in this area was in 1978-79. The Sierra League added Walnut and Rowland while Covina left. Edgewood, West Covina, La Puente, Los Altos, Wilson, South Hills, and Glendora made up the rest of the league. It only lasted for one year, when South Hills, La Puente, and Glendora moved to other leagues. I wish that the principals would have taken into consideration local rivalries during the re-leaguing process. If I had my way the local leagues would have looked like this: The San Antonio would have consisted of Los Altos, Wilson, Rowland, Nogales, Walnut, and Diamond Bar. The Miramonte would have been Glendora, Charter Oak, South Hills, West Covina, Bonita, and Claremont. The Sierra would have been Chino, Chino Hills, Don Lugo, Ayala, Diamond Ranch, and Damien. The Baseline would have been Los Osos, Upland, Alta Loma, Rancho Cucamonga, Colony, and Etiwanda. The Mt. Baldy would have been Ontario, Chaffey, Montclair, Ganesha, Garey, and Pomona. The Valle Vista would have been Baldwin Park, Sierra Vista, Northview, Covina, and San Dimas. Finally, the Montview would have been Duarte, Azusa, Gladstone, Bassett, La Puente, and Workman. I wasn't asked so I guess I only get to give my opinion on here.

WTF are you talking about. They cant have a public school in their all private school league... I really think Oaks and Bonnie should have went into the Serra that would have made that league the toughest in the nation hands down.

Hmmm well with South Hills out this should help out Walnut. LA isn't much lately, maybe Walnut can increase that one lifetime win against them now. DB will be a good game every year. West Covina, Rowland, DR, and Bonita (I don't see them staying down for long) are the teams Walnut will be looking up to.

Oh well at least Charter Oak and South Hills aren't in the league. That would have been like the Baseline years all over again for Walnut...those were some bad years.

What do these leagues have against Glendora sending them to the Baseline, its too far, they should have been kept in the Sierra, maybe send Claremont to the Baseline since they are in that area, or keep Claremont in the Sierra put Glendora in the San Antonio and and maybe send either Walnut, Diamond Bar, or Los Altos to the Valle Vista. Glendora must be angry to have to drive to the inland empire for all the away games.

Since all the talk of CO / So. Hills being a equivalent to Bishop Amat why did'nt they move one of them into the Serra league and make them the Second team in the SGV to be a D1 Pac 5 team.

The Marmonte really got screwed with the addition of Oaks and Bonnies. I just read the rule...

The team entry formula for each league into the playoffs is as follows:

4 team leagues = 2 entries
5 and 6 team leagues = 3 entries
7 **or more** team league = 4 entries

So they added TWO teams and got NO more playoff berths (essentially meaning they LOST two football berths that will now go to the newcomers!)

Moorpark and Westlake will typically bid for the other two football spots ... but Newbury Park , Simi Valley, Royal, Thousand Oaks, Agoura, and Calabasas can't be too happy.

Just had a conversation with Mike the Clone and in typical MTC style he said:

"Maybe Coach will learn some things and be more creative with his offense, he's has no choice now. Just being a good average coach will get you nowhere up against some of those guys"

Also said that he thought it was "total bullshit" to make them travel like that and the new Miramonte is where they should have been placed.

My take is that I agree the Miramonte is the place OR we just should have stayed in the Sierra.Our adminsitration didn't make enough noise about it and ptobably just sat there like nice little Glendorans and said nothing.

Feel sorry for the kids and our fans for all the travel.But those down at the CIF-SS don't give a hoot about us Tartans or Glendora.

Big Dog - what's your take on Bonita (LaVerne), Damien (also LaVerne), and CLAREMONT then?? They are actually further east than the "Pride of the Foothills"...

Leagues are guaranteed playoff spots for at least half their members.

What did Glendora get themselves into? There's a very good chance...no...an extremely likely chance that it could be several years before we see the Glendora Tartans in the playoffs again.

Playoff spots?

So how many teams gets in for 6 team league? 7 team league? 8 team league and the 9 team league?

I just mean is there a bonous to going to 8 as opposed to 7?

have to travel about 20 miles to every road game

Well, I think its crazy that all the Marmonte league have ten teams in it right now. My personal opinion is they should split because there is no room for error. Every game is a league game. There is no pre-season to so. Anybody else have an opinion?

Glendora should be in baseline. I would not consider Glendora in the sgv anyway. There the pride of the foothills like it says on there city signs.

There would be no advantage to split leagues. A 4 team league gets 2 playoff spots and 8 team league gets 4. This makes scheduling easier and less preleague games to fill.

Now the new Marmonte league has 10 teams with the addition of Bonnies and Oaks, by rule should get 5 playoff spots. NINE league games is way too many and gives no room to get better. I see them trying to split - but that would mean a total of SIX playoff spots for the two 5 team leagues (3 in each) Not sure of there's an extra playoff spot to go around

No one kicked Glendora out of the Sierra League. Glendora wanted to get out. They applied for relief as did Claremont. Now if anyone got screwed in the deal, it's Claremont. Going from the Baseline to the new Sierra won't be much relief for them. They would have been a nice fit in the Miramonte/San Antonio League, and before anyone jumps on that one. The San Antonio schools wanted to stay together minus South Hills. With Wilson and Charter Oak leaving the Miramonte and Nogales leaving the San Antonio, it made sense to combine what was left of each league and add Diamond Bar to make-up what is now going to be the San Antonio. I guess the lesson is the sometimes getting "relief" isn't really relief at all.

With the Montview league now 8 teams, will they split into 2 divisions like the SEC, Big 12? The split would be Division North Azusa, Gladstone, Duarte, Ganesha and Division South La Puente, Workman, Basset, And Sierra Vista. Anybody like othe Idea?????

If you think we have it bad, think of the poor Marmonte league which currently today has been made a 10 league team according to the LA Times, with Oak Christian and St Bonaventure in the same league now.

IT'S TO BAD glendora was not with CO IN NEW ALINEMENT. would love to have heard sniveling and nashing of teeth when the two met for Mayors trophy. Tartons still talk about the hard hearted studs from across arrow hwy.

Sierra looks like fun. Gano, Ferrar and Bogan going at it. I wish they would have left Glendora alone and put Claremont or Chino Hills in the Baseline.
