Even after they vote for realignment, Los Altos-Wilson rivalry will continue ... So who wins "The Wheel" on Friday?

Los Altos High School football coach Felipe Aguilar and first-year Wilson coach Brian Zavala want to make sure the annual rivalry game - when the two schools compete for "The Wheel" - doesn't end after this season. The CIF-Southern Section Council is expected to cast its final vote on Oct. 22 to decide the Mt. SAC area league realignment for the 2010-14 seasons, with Wilson expected to move to the Valle Vista League while Los Altos remains in the Miramonte League. The schools haven't always been in the same league, but they have met annually since 1969, with Los Altos owning a 31-11-1 record, which includes playoff encounters. The rivalry resumes on Friday in the Miramonte League opener with Wilson (3-2) hosting Los Altos (2-3), which at least signals the end of the two squaring off in the Miramonte and in CIF playoffs games for the foreseeable future.

"Brian and I definitely want the rivalry to continue, and I see no reason why it shouldn't," Aguilar said. "There is a lot of history, a lot of emotion, and kids on both teams play their hearts out to win this game.

"You don't want that to end. That's what high school football is all about. We need more games like this, not less of them."

With defending Miramonte and Southeast champion Charter Oak a heavy favorite again, Aguilar realizes Friday's game isn't just for bragging rights, it could go a long way in determining playoff spots.

"Brian has done a great job improving their program and we feel like we have improved a lot from last year so yeah, it's a very big game, it always is," Aguilar said. "Obviously, Charter Oak is at a different level than everyone right now, but none of us are just conceding the title to them.

"You look at what Bishop Amat did to St. Bonaventure (28-27 victory) a couple weeks ago. That just goes to show you always have a shot. You never know what's going to happen in a football game."

XXX...since you seem to know it all, tell us about the game? Typical Wilson fan...looking for an excuse after a terrible performance! Wilson executed two plays all night and looked like a slow moving flag football team!
LA ran and passed the ball at will all night! What are your thoughts?

LA Fan,

That fight was caused by your security and police. That is why your school was told to leave the premission by the wilson administration. I understand that your players thought the kicker would be the weakest player on our team, so they attempted to start a fight with him. For the record our kicker can kick (45 yard field goal) and can fight, MMA fighter, real stupid.

Maybe you didn't understand what I was stating to RGD2626. One of your freshmen coaches told me that Wilson's freshman team had more talent and was much bigger than LA's freshmen team. Wilson lost the game because they were out coached. Wilson's freshmen staff is all first year coaches.

RGD2626 what is going on with Gano over at Damien. What is he working on a five year plan like Felipe over at LA.

What this is going to be LA's three lossing season in a row.

LA 54 Wilson 17, score speaks for itself haha Wilson sucks no defense no offense no nothing. By the way tell your coaching staff to accept the better team won and stop trying to break out fights at the end of the game. LA is back

XXX?

What are you talking about? You aren't making any sense. As for out coaching? He did a good job against Wilson, but the LA players just plain outplayed the wildcats. I know I was there.

The LA defense was dead on the whole game (the score by wilson was against the LA 2-3 string players that were put in at there own 30 yard line. The offense ? Well they score says it all.

RGD2626,

Once again you are talking out of your a@@. Your own freshmen coach made it very clear that Wilson's Freshmen team was more talented than LA, they got out coached. You should be use to that you are a Gano supporter.

Shreimen, AKA Wilson Parent, GRI...What???

You mean to tell us that the LA freshmen coach, who according to you, is a Janitor at Workmen high school, out coached the Wilson hall of fame coaching staff??? That can't be true! LMAO!

The early results of this poll are very interesting. I believe what we can all take from the numbers is Wilson is the team that the general public wants to win the game.
