Football Super 31: Bishop Amat strengthens its case at No. 1; San Antonio owns spots 3 through 6

Johnson and Anderson: Bishop Amat's version of thunder and lightning.
Tribune Top Ten
1. Bishop Amat (4-0) - The Lancers are 11-4 in the Hagerty-era, and with a win over Diamond Ranch on Saturday, would become a perfect 6-0 against area teams in his two-year tenure.
2. Charter Oak (4-1) - The expectations were so high, even a close win over Damien felt somewhat disappointing. It doesn't get any easier with Etiwanda in town next, but it's another game that should net a W.
3. Rowland (4-0) - The Southeast No. 1 for the second straight week blew out Covina, and will probably do the same with El Monte next. We know they're good, we just don't know how good.
4. Walnut (4-0) - Ditto for Walnut, though beating Arroyo was a nice sign. But again, until they bang heads with the San Antonio's traditional finest, South Hills and West Covina, we just don't know for sure.
5. West Covina (2-3) - Beating Los Altos doesn't register like it once did, but still a sign the Bulldogs are on their way back. After Diamond Bar, they get South Hills at the District.
6. South Hills (2-2) - The Huskies took out their frustration on Northview, and solved a problem in the process. It appears that senior Jacob Shirley will be the starting quarterback the rest of the way after a dominant performance. Now, if they could just get the Canada's ....
7. Glendora (2-2) - You have to give it up to quarterback Chad Jeffries. Twice now, he's led Tartans on last minute drives to victory. That's good to know come playoff time when the season is on the line.
8. San Dimas (3-1) - You know what's up next, the Saints hoping to drop a three-peat on rival Bonita in the Smudge Pot.
9. Baldwin Park (4-1) -- The Braves continue to pile up the wins, and should pile up a few more in the Valle Vista until they get San Dimas at the end of the year. But oh, don't forget stubborn Pomona.
10. Damien (1-4) -- When does a loss move you in the top ten? When they're close back-to-back losses to Bishop Amat and Charter Oak in consecutive weeks, not to mention a tough loss against Rancho Cucamonga. Or tell me this, who ranked below has a more impressive victory than the Spartans' 24-0 shutout over Claremont?
The Middle 10
11. Arroyo (2-2), 12. Workman (3-1), 13. La Puente (4-1), 14. Azusa (4-1), 15. Wilson (3-1), 16. Diamond Ranch (1-4), 17. Bonita (1-3), 18. Gladstone (4-1), 19. Covina (1-3), 20. Los Altos (1-3).
On the bottom looking up
21. Sierra Vista (2-2), 22. Rosemead (1-3), 23. Nogales (2-3), 24. Bassett (3-2), 25. Diamond Bar (0-4), 26. Northview (0-4), 27. El Monte (0-4), 28. South El Monte (0-5), 29. Mountain View (0-5), 30. Ganesha (0-5), 31. Duarte (0-5)

It is the wife of the next generation, where the pockets are only an accessory that has important elements, such as bank cards, but an essential element of the style statement they make all the time in shopping center or work unconsciously.
Im trying to start my own blog, so ive been searching and this is the best one if seen so far, Great Job!!!
Googled Jason Patterson and read how he helped teh Lancers dimantle the Monarchs for Matre Dei...as read something that floored me...the LA Times pice said something to the affect...
"Bishop Amat winer of 9 consecutive League titles only hav eto beat Loyola...ARE YOU KIDDING ME...NINE IN A ROW IN THAT LEAGUE...IS THAT TRUE?
INCREDIBLE...
People,
Look at the picture above. Here are two very good athletes that we should be talking about, that are playing, right now!
So how does this thread turn to Wallace talk. This guy quit his other team, where he did nothing good and he is not playing at Amat. So why all the talk?
Let's talk about real ballers!!!
Joe Amat? Are you serious? Jason Patterson was a good player for Amat? He wasn't good. He was "GREAT." If I had to choose to play with Jason Patterson or Kory Minor, I would choose Jason any day of the week and twice on Sundays. I played with both and I hold Kory in High regards. But, Jason was just a Man playing with boy's. He was also voted CIF-SS Div. I Player of the Year in 1990, and should have his Jersey retired at Amat.
A Joe,
Your optimizum a kinda reasuring. But do us a favor anyway, tomorrow night at practice, take a little Holy Water and sprinkle some on him, so we can be sure! LOL!
To much press on this young man. Let's talk about D.J. some more!!!
Tartans,
Rest assured that Amat will deal with any "behavior" issues. We've certainly proven that in a very public way over the year by not being afraid to lose players who have already committed to D1 scholarships, potential SGV Players of the Year, or just very gifted young athletes that don't behave up to Amat's standards.
There is something about the tradition and daily/weekly competition that entices most kids to live up to those standards. When you think you're a big shot and a handful of your coaches are Championship Coaches, Coaches of the Year, All-CIF, Players of the Year, CIF Champions, Division 1 athletes, or NFL veterans... it has a tendency to humble you just a bit.
Joe
Maybe the reason is that the behavior issues need to be dealt for a change. Its pretty apparent that the "DADDY" in this case doesn't manage his kid very well! And we do know the entire details.
Now, they'll be Amat problems!
Lance & Give them time,
We can only hope... on both accounts. Changes in both area shoulda/coulda been made a while ago and they'd both be in better shape.
R2 - Thanks. That's why I said "attract players" when talking about Gano. And once there are players who have success with those transfers... it just attracts more as a viable option.
I find it interesting that there are some clamoring for the Canada's eligibility and yet fighting Gonzales's. Rules are the rules, you follow procedures and see what happens when they interpret how those rules were followed. The bottom line is the school accepts the paperwork that's submitted, does their due diligence, and then it's up to the CIF office to come down with a decision. And then it is what it is.
Joe - That was pretty cruel "more on that later." What is it? Is there a slight chance that msgr could be moving on to greener pastures? Maybe the Good DR can move into a more prominent role in opening up opportunities for Amat Athletics?
Joe and 73-
I gotcha, just wondered what your thinking was about the situation. And by no means was i saying Amat or Hags did anything wrong, believe me i know how it works out there. So many parents shop the kid around, it's not the coach out there doing the shopping. That is why i laugh when all the experts come in here saying how Gano recruits, not the way it happens at all.The parents shop and find the school they want there kid to play at.Just like your situation, what is Hags suppose to do? Say (no)you go somewhere else and play.
Joe,
Thanks for the details on MHphd. He actually accepted my transfer and I recall his one hour chat with me. I had some baggage, but all he cared about was my reason for comming to Amat and he wanted to share what Amat was all about. Great pitch as I grew up in the shadows of St. Damien.
I recall Pat Patterson blocking for Bieniemy. I did not know he did not finish at Amat, but recall he had a scholi to Colorado with Eric. I am not sure if he finished, however. I also did not know Jason and Pat were related, but makes sense with their size and name. I wonder if Haggs will use some flex or hybrid TE positon (aka USC) with young Wallace.
BTW, I saw Alcantera's son at the Damien (frosh) game and he looks like he will make his dad proud playin his position (SS). Nice to see his last kid decided to come and not go to Los Osos.
Looks like Amat is doing well with a few kids from Rancho. What a drive! I complained about coming from Covina.
J
In regards to the band. I don't know if anyone has noticed other than DK but the band is now under the guidence of a new director. The old one was simply to put it nicely was not there for the betterment of the band and really offered no help to the band boosters in fund raising or to the students on advancing musically . Maybe with the new and young blood we will see some improvements so give them a chance because it takes a lot of guts to go out on the field not only at games but at competitions and perform.
J-Rab,
You're right it was Jordan Swayden from Damien. ((I'm still reeling over Leylands power performance a year ago at San Dimas, a teammate of some Lancers at UCI)
As for the Rix move, that was one of those "private to private" transfer situations so it worked under those circumstances. I think MHphd was really looking to help a kid who was in the middle of a bunch of stuff. Some family related, some he brought upon himself. But he needed some things and SMCHS was there to help. He may have just been led around by the culture in OC a little over there too. So football was certainly a piece and deep down inside there was probably a little added motivation to accept him coming from Amat.
The most "high profile" upper classman before that was Pat Patterson in the '80s. Unbelievable talent at tight end with great hands. Could have been a good basketball player too when he transferred from Chaffey. I don't believe he finished his senior year - although his little bro Jason was a pretty good player for the Lancers a few years later. So there have been some... but few.
FWIW, MHphd would preferred to have stayed at Amat his entire career and the move to Cantwell, then SMCHS was not entirely of his choosing. In some ways it's good that he's back - if MSGr would allow him to do something. Let's hope we solve that problem soon... there's rumblings. More on that to come... very soon.
Joe,
What is your opinion then on Hemingway in terms of the high profile move of Rix from Amat to SM? I recall during my days at Amat during Hemingway's first stint he turned away a few kids and kept things clean, but it surprised me that he did not issues with Rix at SM. I don't know the details about why he left and the greater issue was that he was a senior and he was looking for a program. I gather the environment at SM at that time was to win and get someone like him (Rix) in the program.
J
Never mind...Should have read Joe's post below.
Was there a kid from St. Damien (Are they going with the new name?) Jordan Swayden (Football, Baseball) that came in his Junior year? I may have the name wrong, but I think he came in late.
Manzo will get Gonzalez a pass and get him freed to play this season. What a pick-up for Amat. If this Wallace kid is what they say he is talent wise, Amat stand to benefit from it all. He is running routes in practice as it stands right now and from what one person told me he can catch and just towers over people. TE for this young man or put him in the slot and play catch with him in short passing situations.
I say start the recruitment of musicians. Amats band is horrible. Maybe they are all freshman still learning, and by their senior year they will get it done. Is there anyway to fake their music on the P.A. and just let them march and instruemnt Sync. very bad..what happened to the band teacher that looked like moe from The Simpsons.? also whatver became of Kira the Athletic Trainer?
FYI,
Brandon Bennett transferred in the 2nd semester of his sophomore year, but obviously didn't play football until he was a junior
The last two junior transfers earned scholarships, Bowens and Bennett to UCLA.
R2,
That was a good win. Thanks. Hoping to get to the back stage where that's not as shocking to everyone. But that is a long road to travel.
I think what I've said before is administration has made it a "policy" not to accept senior transfers, especially from a public school. As 73 mentions, that changes a bit when coming from a private school where they have had, essentially, the same requirements throughout high school (ie: Jordan Leyland, who came from Damien, a while back) The other Damien-to-Amat transfer that I remember was Kristen McCarthy's (SGV basketball POY) older brother. He and his family had a run in with the basketball coach during his rocky first year and left to go to prep school back east. My sticking point regarding transfers has always been that we do things right. If a kid transfers we're going to make sure that the "T"s are crossed and the "I"s are dotted. (hope I don't jinx it!). Not to put words on others keyboards, but I think the reference to Gano's history of attracting players is that he now has another layer of private school red tape that is more difficult to navigate - contrary to public opinion. I do think it will be interesting to see how Damien handles that.
The Gonzalez situation is unique, as 73 also mentions, in that his sister is a student. It always has been a policy to keep families together, when possible, when it comes to admissions. The joke used to be the easiest way to get accepted to Amat is "to have a smart older sibling!" It's rare that the 2nd kid doesn't get in. Admittedly, this is a "high profile" transfer, but that's exactly how it would be dealt with if it was a couple of bad kids too. We just wouldn't hear about it. (and let's be honest - have you heard our band? Ouch! Sorry- low blow. But I am a realist.)
I've heard of a couple "high-profile" transfer requests at Amat that have been turned away immediately, and I think that's wrong. A kid should be judged on the paperwork presented and only that - whether he/she is just a member of the glee club or a talented athlete.
Maybe Gonzales joining Amat's program will be a similar success story to Randy Moss joining the successful Patriots organization. Sometimes a change of scenery is best for everybody.
rgd2626,
I think you might be confused on the recent post of Gano . I believe it was me who made that statement. Yes AMAT normally( we never said never) does not take JR or SR transfers except from maybe another Catholic school as when Mission closed and they accepted many students along with some great football players to keep the acadmics in order. As many have said a public education is as good as a private so maybe their right. Seen as the school year is only a month or 2 old his transfer is really as if he is coming in the beginning of his JR year. Now add the fact that his sister is a student at AMAT and that goes a long way in his acceptance also. Thanks for the complement it was a great win for us and for the valley.
To former Lancer, there is a lot of hustle in beating out a bunt isn't there. He is there because he wins.
First things first opened up the trib and saw Hit and hussle camp at AMAT. IS THIS THE SAME COACH WHO friggin bunted JERRY MAC with one on and one out in the seventh. How he IS THERE IS BEYOND ME. THE CAMP SHOULD BE CALLED BUNT AND GET YOUR BULLPEN UP IN THE SIXTH CAMP.
didn't damien have an athlete or two transfer to bishop amat around th 03 or 04 season. african american kid who fought with a kid at damien, or so teh runor goes. wasn't their a racial component to the situation? i'm almost certain the kid was a jior or maybe a senior. anyone remember the details?
Joe Amat
first of all congrats on the win last week.
Im a little confussed about the Wallace situation.I would need a calculator to count how many times in here you and others but mostly you how Amat is SO much different than other schools about transfers. You have allways said Amat does not take or allow Junior and Senior transfers to play football.Just recently you said it will be interesting to see if Damien allows Gano to bring in transfers to build there program unlike the way Amat does not allow this.
Again- great victory last week !
Joey, come on my friend, are we being reduced to defending the monumental win based off of some anonymous third hand story? Let's see...maybe the national sportwriters didn't get the memo declaring St. Bonnies "worst in ten years status"...dios mio!
St. Bonnie's was clearly the better team yet they lost. The same could have been said of O Lu and Crespi...both on paper were better teams...but they also suffered at the hands of Bishop Amat.
The fact remains..Bishop Amat did the incredible by anyone's standard. Damien can't get past teh second round, Glendora beats DR with a slow time keeper, CO loses in it's first test in 2 years, South Hills gets punched in the mouth by the Panthers, Rosemead runs into a Tra stopping train after getting all the bounces againt San Dimas...and you want to know something...none of that made a ripple outside of the San Gabriel Valley pond.
When Bishop Amat wins an epic battle it rumbles across the Southland all teh way to San Diego...beating St. Bonnie's made NATIONAL NEWS!!!...because Bishop Amat has NATIONAL RECOGNITION...this is so silly to even defend it's laughable.
This doesn't mean BA is better than anyone else in the eyes of God but clearly in football circles more than a few peole said..."Hey maybe they're back!!!".
The irony here Joey is more than a few well wishes made teh declaration...'Thanks for representing the SGV!" Maybe someone can explain what that means.
Recently Jim Mc Connell had a little fun pairing great teams against each other...Amat lost to El Rancho in the Championship...okay here goes...HOW MANY OF TOS EGREAT TEAMS ARE RELEVANT TODAY!!!...El Rancho? Muir? Blair? Bonita? West Covina? Los Altos? Wilson?...right I didn't think so.
Remakable that anyone would choose to go with arrogrant after that win and pompous after your history...but then again I understand that the insecurity it creates in the weak minded.
sgvfootballfan,
No doubt someone from Bonnies said that. That is a typical comment that one might make after an unexpected loss. However, even if it's true - they've won 8 titles in those 10 yrs. So being one of the worst compared to that is still not so bad.
What they've already done this season proves they're pretty darn good - this year... regardless of how they compare with teams in their past. True?
#1footballfan?
I didn't say it. One of the past St. Boniventure alumni said it!
Wallace's paperwork is in at the CIF office and the decision is in their hands and pending .
Remember CIF is more concerned with why you chose the new school than with why you left the previous school.... unless withdrawal is listed as a discipline issue - which this wasn't. How paperwork from GHS is handled is crucial and that is, and should remain, confidential.
What he does have going for him is his sister already being at Amat makes it the most legitimate choice of schools for a non-athletic reasons. If their Hardship Waiver is granted it needs to be determined that the hardship was "an unforeseeable, unavoidable and uncorrectable act, condition or event that causes the imposition of a severe and non-athletic burden upon the student or his/her family." As in any case - how the evidence is initially presented is of utmost importance. It is a tough hill to climb, although there are a few particular reasons for requests that seem rubber stamped more often than others.
But even if the waiver is granted, I don't forsee him contributing for a few weeks... of course we do have a few weeks before our first league game. His size certainly gives him an advantage at tight end/receiver and we could go to some double tight formations with him and Tierney that would make us versatile. A big target like that sure creates other options that we could use in the red-zone that may have made things easier in those situations than it was against St Bonaventure.
For the kids sake, I hope it all works out... It will be good for him.
.
DR is a BELOW MEDIOCRE FOOTBALL program at BEST.

Joe Amat
First off, the win last week was epic, no doubt about it. Winning without an offensive touchdown against St. Bonnies until OT very rarely comes along but, it did, scoreboard.
I assure of one thing, La Habra will play you TOUGH year in & year out. Quezada is hurting currently or that Pac 5 score you are referencing would have been a hell of alot closer. Kinda like the score would have been without your boy that saved your ass against St Bonnies! Maybe you can get rid WC & DR and throw them in for a spin, I imagine they would like that.
Good luck to you the rest of the way & please,
DESTROY St. Paul, they talk way to much.
Amat Lancer,
Dont hold your breath. This may indeed never occur, Gonzalez in a Amat (varsity) uniform for football anyhow.
CIF is very clear on this subject, He has played in a game this year for Glendora, therefore his one year will start at the end of this season.
If I had to bet on this, I would say this case will be ruled "athleticly motivated" and he will watch until Nov 14 2010.
Remember he is a baseball player, so he will be good for his senior season.
AmatLancers said:
I doubt that happens very soon or if at all!
And who's he going to beat out?
I for am all for it. Vote azz hole out. AYE.
AYE
Hey D Ranch, aren't you guys 1-4?
And what makes you think you can even play with Amat?
They beat you last year and they'll beat you again!
:)
Saturdays prediction:
Amat 38, D Ranch 7
p.s. you're only as good as your last game
I saw Wallace Gonzalez practicing with the Varsity at Amat today. He looks menacing and towers over everyone. He fits well on a PAC5 team, let's hope CIF clears up his eligibility issues soon.
I can already anticipate the envy and jealousy when he steps foot at Kiefer in an Amat uniform.
Honestly I don't get this, now we have punks here on the blog that are one: either the same person; or two: 35 and feel inadequate in their lives.
Fred could you please ask the IT guys to rid us of them.
P.S. It doesn't matter if it's nine times out of ten as long as you get the W in the one game you played against them. It's all about beating someone that day.
I'm pretty sure if St. bonnie should have won they would have but who has the 1 in the loss column? How much attention does one need especially when they post the same comment 10 times LOL. I guess people stopped responding to him which is good. Next he gonna say DR is underatted at 1-5 LOL. Peace and love :)
P.S these blogs are funny everyone acts like it's life an death. Must be the economy ha ha
Incredible that ANY Bishop Amat backer would stoop to aintmydadapuss's level.
The truth is aintmydadapuss couldn't care less about Amat, it's record or this season...and everyone with half a brain knows this and ultimately that's aintmydadapuss's motivation.
To prove that Amat backers lack discipline and instead react like pavlovian dogs waiting on his every word.
Aintmydadapuss is in the newest incarnation of this mastermind.
Every year it's the same old story and every year Amat reponds. Which is remarkable
Back in the day when I was in college I'd smoke a couple of major bong bowls and open the door and discuss God and his role in this mixed up world with serious missionaires from different religions. I don't remember much of the actual conversations but I do recall that look on their faces.
I'm sure they smelled the bud but somehow they couldn't just walk away...the sad thing was after the buzz wore off I was left with a sick feeling I just wasted a good buzz...aintmydadapuss is God's revenge for my wicked ways of years gone past.
Anyone want to make a 7-11 run?
All in favor of voting this idiot off of our "island" please vote.
AYE!
Since the rules have changed and we now don't want to talk about the present and would rather talk about the past, we're more than proud to play that game too.
Amat is one of only 6 schools to have a Division 1 CIF Championship since 95, One of only 4 schools to have multiple Division 1 CIF championships since'88 and has more Division 1 titles than great Division 1 programs like Los Alamitos, Fountain Valley(since'88-when they beat us in the finals), Lakewood(never), Servite(0 since'83-when they beat us in the finals), Edison(0 since'80), St John Bosco (never), and many more.
Throw in all the players that earned scholarships since '95 and we'll match that up with anybody, thank you very much.

sgvfootballfan,
don't say that St. Bonaventure has has one of the worst football teams they've had in 10 years. Give me some proof to support that bonehead comment. F.y.i. St. Bonaventure was ranked on maxpreps #9 national, and in the top 5 in state before playing Amat. Here are the scores of the games before playing Bishop Amat:
St. John Bosco 10, St. Bonaventure 34
Long Beach Poly 7, St. Bonaventure 27
L.A. Jordan 21, St. Bonaventure 42
Crespi 41, St. Bonaventure 42
Does that really sound like a weak team, and perhaps the weakest team they've had this past decade? All those wins over powerful division 1 teams buddy, and all butt kickings besides the Crespi game. So when you want to start talking logic comment back.
sgvfootballfan,
That "worse team they have had in 10 years" still beat LB Poly 27-7 and pounded St John Bosco 34-10 already THIS season. Let's not forget what St John Bosco did to Damien and St Paul already this year.
However you choose to spin it now that they lost, the Seraphs are pretty darn good.
Fred
Don't get to excited about Amat just yet!
talked to insider and was told St.Bonaventure has the worst team they have had in ten years and just barely got by Crespi in OT the week before.
Let me put a spin on this CO and BA Fred Broth of Stupidity.
Over th past two years....including this season. Bishop Amat plays half it's games as the underdog....in some games Bishop Amat's opponents are Nationally recognized and ranked.
On the other hand CO will play almost 30 games where they are at best a toss up ...once!
Now Fred has a job to do and instead of breaking things down like that fuels a fire of serious one ups man ship and claims Bishop Amat is somehow a #2 in this small pond...seriously is this a joke?
No wonder COChargerFan and other think BA fans are arrogant.
CO will be in the Sierra League and all this talk about being #1 will come to an end. Chino Hills, Glendora, Ayala and Damien are not what Lou is used to and they will soon find out why the St. Bonnie's victory was so darn incredible....and it wasn't even a playoff game much less league...where th real big boys reside...
Any coaches looking for a good pre-game speech this week - just show this one to the guys!
http://is.gd/41cHD
Haven't seen Walnut at all, but Rowland and South Hills have to be the class of the San Antonio league... South Hills has talent at key positions regardless of whether the Canada's play or not. They are still the favorite to win league. Caught the Glendora-Rowland game three seasons ago when Jordan Edmond and Jake Vega carved up Rowland in a great game. Game really showed a lot about Rowland that year in my mind. Watching Phillip Chase play great football and Rowland was so well coached. Coach Snyder has found a gem in junior Michael Ball. He is an asset on the defensive side of things and a very talented QB. Has good accuracy and an average arm overall, but does a lot with his feet and great field presence. I have no doubt when things get tough he can rally his guys late. The Raiders also have a real talent at RB. Ononughe has great speed and size probably one of the best backs the SGV has to offer. No hyperbole, the kid has blazing speed and hits like a truck. Rowland feeds off of these two and features them heavily on offense and defense. I don't think Rowland can match up with say Charter Oak, but that isn't to say they can't win come playoff time. They very well could win the San Antonio this season, I think they will have to come game against South Hills and the winner of that game will take league. West Co is well coached and has some playmakers(Soloman and Johnson), but they just can't seem to put it together right now whether it be their injuries or whatever it is, they need to improve A LOT between now and Week 10 to be a realistic player in league.
Joe Amat,
A lot of the former and some of the latter.
Amat 73,
Thanks for visiting the west side a while back and dropping some kind words.
SGV FOOTBALL,
I like your thinking. Although nor sure La Habra is the answer, even though they make life tough for some in the SGV - they took a Pac5 beating recently - so something more like a Fountain Valley, San Clemente, Hart, Valencia, and a Trinity League team every year, like tcbruin suggests, might fit the bill.
I'd hope that Damien is a staple and we still need to play one local every season. Without doing that over a period of years it allowed the "shadow of a doubt" to creep into some peoples minds when they see other local teams go deep into the playoffs at their level of competition. That is where all the talk started of "Amat is down and School X is great".... "Amat hasn't won and our team has" , yada, yada, yada. With the opportunity to settle that on the field with someone for comparison, it eliminates most of that.... besides the occasional fanatic that gets a hair across their butt like DRanchhhh, Anonymass, or COChargerfan.
We won't know if the Huskies QB issues have been solved until they face a quality opponent. The next game against Rosemead will still not give us a good answer. This NV team was too small, too slow, and not very good. I think the QBs could've been perfect if not for some dropped passes in the hands of the receivers. The Rosemead squad won't be that much better than the NV squad.
I think it's smaller than the visito's side at Kiefer. But the last time I went to a DR-Bonita game there was plenty of room on the home side if we had brought more fans. I don't know how it is now, but then DR fans didn't seem to come to their own games.
The SGV tribune Top Ten is all good, it is the Newspapers right to post whom they think is the top High School when it comes to football. Without sounding pompous you have to Say Bishop Amat is the far superior team here in the SGV. Going by record is one thing but going by opponent is another. Tell me what other SGV HS can go in there with a St. Bonaventure, Crespi, Notre Dame and Loyola, not to mention last years Orange Lutheran or the old Serra with Servite,Mater Dei, St. John Bosco and Santa Margarita and make a game of it. The poll should be made for all others excluding Bishop Amat. Tribunes 2-10 poll, because as far as who is number one reguardless of their season record Bishop Amat should be at top. On the two sided coin of things it is bad for Bishop Amat if they have a losing record but play the tougher opponents and are put below a team of good record but a soft schedule. For the rest of the SGV it is tough to be considered number one with Bishop Amat right there with that schedule especially when they are winning.
Before I give you my top 10 area teams, I would like to comment on that anonapus person post. I don't know how Fred let that post get on here. That is about as rude and racist a comment that I have heard. I'm sure that it's someone trying to be funny but I don't think any of us with common sense are laughing.
Now to my top 10 Area Teams.
1. Amat-That's an easy one. Awesome job last week. The only area team you haven't taken on is CO. We would love to see that one!
2. Charter Oak-Shouldn't be any doubt that they are the best team in their division.
3. Rowland-Mr.Ball is giving defenses fits. Solid D is a plus.
4. Damian-Looks like a reach but they are coming around just intime for league play.
5. South Hills-Some tough losses against quality oppponents. QB issues may be solved.
6. West Covina-Gave Amat all they wanted. Speed Chills-Speed Kills
7. Glendora-Has bounced back nicely from adversity.
8. Diamond Ranch-Could easily be 3-1 instead of 1-3. We will get a real gauge on them vs Amat this week.
9. Walnut-Lots of weapons on offense. Shakey in the trenches. Not ready to drink the kool-aid yet, but we took a little sip,
10. San Dimas/Baldwin Park-They are even. I don't think they can beat any of teams above them.
Quicknote: San Antonio League play will sort most of the debate. Good Luck to all the SGV teams.
SVG430 Ouuut!
How big is the DR visitor side (I'm wondering how early I'll have to get there)?
Amat 28
DR 6 (2 field goals)
Stang Fan,
Thanks. Now what can we do to get those Mustangs turned around? Are they just a little young with a tough schedule and light at the end of the tunnel - or their other issues?
I didn't get an opportunity this past weekend to congratulate BA on their HUGE win Friday night. Way to rep the SGV, Lancers!!! No team in this area, NO TEAM, could post W's against the likes of OLu, Crespi, and St. Bonnie's over two consecutive seasons. That's a HELLUVA coaching job.
Congrats again.
Fred,
Well done! The Spartans are 1-4 but much better than the record indicates. We open Sierra League play with Glendora and I expect that game to be the indicator on how the rest of the year should go. Gano has done a fine job of preparing the boys .
Why do you haters keep going back to the past. You keep telling us not to live in the past or talk about our tradition and history but lo and behold that is your only ammo now . Come on now guys let's talk about the present . Tell us something about today or even last weeks game or the week before or the week before that. To continue to talk about the past is well you know because you always knocked us for it so I really don't have to explain it to you folks.Jeez you knock us for it and now that we listened to you haters and did something about it you fall back it . Get real .
Fred
Do you really believe Rowland is a better football team then Diamond Ranch.Fred have taken a look at Rowland schedule its even more pathetic then Walnuts?
Rowland Schedule
1. Cal High 1-3 The team they beat Sucks
2. Montebello 1-3 " " "
3. Northview 0-4
4. Covina 1-3 " " "
5. El Monte 0-4 Play them this week
Diamond Ranch
1. Muir 0-5 Played all quality teams
2. Colony 4-1 Lost to quality team
3. Elsinore 4-1 Lost to quality team
4. Chino Hills 4-1 Lost to quality Team
5. Glendora 2-2 Lost to quality team
Fred our whole offense line has been out for the last two weeks against Chino Hills and Glendora and both of those teams could only beat us on last second field goals. We'll be back right wear we were last year at the end of the season playing for the southeast championship against CO.It will be another Miramonte showdown? Hopefully this year it will turn out different.
Bishop won a baseball title 2yrs ago. 2 kids from the SGV got full rides to UCLA both are CB one was from Bishop and the other is from DR can you tell me which one is starting for the Bruins and which one is going to red shirt?
Don't worry you have a chance to make a big upset because we know CalPreps can be wrong as we saw last week, but this would be a bigger upset: Sat 10/10 Diamond Ranch (Pomona, CA) vs Bishop Amat (La Puente, CA) at Ganesha (Pomona, CA), 7:00pm
projection: Bishop Amat (La Puente, CA) 31-3
PS. Make sure to get home from the game early to take your mom some lunch on Hold BLVD
south hills will win the San Antonio no question! look who rowland, and walnut played...NO ONE!!!! you all thought the same last year about those two team and then SHHS came and ounked them..... good analasis steve....NOT!!!
IF Damien is serious about keeping Amat on the schedule for 2010/2011, who else does Amat keep/add to it's non-league schedule: Charter Oak, DRanch, West Covina? Does Amat go out and schedule Servite, St. John Bosco, IE teams, others?
What happened last week at Kiefer puts into prospective what BA needs to do to get back to the CIF championship. No more Playing SGV teams with the exception of Damien and maybe CO. They need to play a weak team week 1 and then step it up from there. Week 2 thru week 5 or 6 you play, oaks christian, st bonaventure, Corona Centennial, maybe alemany, LA Habra, Moorpark, Chaparral or Rancho Cucamonga. All of those teams should be on BA radar for the future. Thats the only way I think they can prepare for what the will see in league and especially what they will see in the playoffs.
Amat faithful what do you guys think???
WOW Amnot1995,
People like you can never be happy to support the local team, even if its not your school. Dont route for them when you play them, we all understand that, but when they get wins like that all it does is good for the SGV and puts us back on the map.
.

VENTURA NEWSPAPER:
This from their side of the story over in Ventura. Sounds like some respected us (Amat) in victory and some just made the excuse they had a bad nite.
LA PUENTE — Two straight overtime games proved to be one too many for the St. Bonaventure High football team.
Not, from the Seraphs’ perspective, that Friday’s 24-23 loss at Bishop Amat ever should have reached the extra session to begin with.
Despite St. Bonaventure’s statistical domination of regulation play, two big plays — a 91-yard kickoff return and an 87-yard interception return, both by Bishop Amat’s Darien Johnson — carried the Lancers to a 17-17 tie in regulation.
And in the extra session — in a reversal of the way things worked in St. Bonaventure’s 42-41 win at Crespi a week earlier — it was the Seraphs who scored first but missed the extra point, and Bishop Amat that then scored and made the PAT, setting off a wild celebration by a capacity crowd. St. Bonaventure is 4-1 and saw its hopes for a state bowl-game bid take a big hit, while Bishop Amat is 4-0.
“It means a lot to us,” said Johnson, who also had a 25-yard reception in overtime to set up Jay Anderson’s 1-yard, fourth-and goal scoring run, followed by Alexander Ragsdale’s deciding kick.
“Nobody gave us a shot. But we believed in ourselves. We know we can play with any team if we wanted to.”
Johnson’s second-quarter kickoff return erased a short-lived 7-3 St. Bonaventure lead.
“It was a big momentum-changer,” said Johnson. “I just had the ball and knew how to make a play. I knew they were going to come at me, because St. Bonny’s like, ‘Oh, we’re the best, so we’re going to kick it to him.’ And I went out there and did my thing. I want to give it up to my kickoff return team, and our defense played hard all night.”
His interception return, with 6:23 left in the third quarter, tied the game at 17, where it remained, even though St. Bonaventure outgained Bishop Amat 358 yards to 129 in regulation.
“We keep making the same mistakes we made a week ago,” said St. Bonaventure coach Todd Therrien. “They had another great run back; we threw another interception for a touchdown. Big plays by them, and us just playing terrible.
“Defensively we gave up three (in regulation), but we didn’t get the ball back. We had no takeaways, they had two. There you go: You lose the takeaway battle and you lose the game. It’s simple as that.”
Said St. Bonaventure receiver Daniel Wakam: “Those big plays took away the momentum.”
Wakam had a huge play in overtime — a 21-yard catch on second-and-20 to set up Logan Meyer’s 1-yard TD push — and, at the time, it looked like that might be the crucial play of the game.
“I thought so, too,” he said, “but we got lazy.”
The Seraphs scored two plays later, only to have Bishop Amat block Mason Kirk’s extra point, the last in a series of special-teams problems including Johnson’s kickoff return and Bishop Amat’s more effective kicking game.
“Our special teams need to play better the rest of the way,” said Wakam.
Wakam, who had a crucial 21-yard reception on a second-and-20 play to set up St. Bonaventure’s overtime TD, said: “Those big plays took away the momentum.”
All St. Bonaventure’s points came in the second quarter, off two long drives and one impressive hurry-up sequence.
After Bishop Amat went up 3-0 on a 42-yard field goal by Alexander Ragsdale, the Seraphs hammered out an 81-yard, 11-play drive ending with a 1-yard plunge by Meyer.
Johnson then delivered his kickoff return, but St. Bonaventure responded with a 76-yard, nine-play drive keyed by two plays — a 37-yard run by Devon Blackledge and a 23-yard pass from Meyer to Austin Higbie — and ending with another 1-yard run, this time by Michael Henderson with 6:37 left.
St. Bonaventure capped the half by taking over on downs at its own 47 with 26 seconds left, and moved to the Bishop Amat 20 in four plays before Mason Kirk kicked a 37-yard field goal as time expired, making it 17-10 at the half.
But that, as it turned out, was it for St. Bonaventure’s offense. Blackledge finished with 26 carries for 138 yards; Meyer was 19 of 38 for 250 yards with two interceptions, as well as his two scoring runs.
Bishop Amat finished with 159 yards, with Anderson rushing 26 times for 69 yards.
WHERE is MONROVIA? They blasted San Dimas and are not on the list! What Gives?
Fred,
That there, is a beautiful weather report!
