Football Super 31: Bishop Amat strengthens its case as No. 1; Glendora moves up one to No. 6

Tribune Top Ten
1. Bishop Amat (5-0) - We may need Joe Amat's help on this, but as far as I can tell, this is the best Lancers start since beginning 4-0 in the Del Rey League in 2001 when they finished 9-2, and obviously the best start ever since moving to the Serra League. With St. Paul next, there's no reason to believe they won't make it 6-0.
2. Charter Oak (5-1) - The Chargers might not be perfect, but considering they beat two very good teams in Damien and Etiwanda a week after losing to Rancho Cucamonga, they're still very, very good and probably won't lose another game.
3. Rowland (5-0) - The most impressive stat other than being undefeated is that the Raiders are beating teams by a Valley best 25-point margin. They're averaging nearly 40 points on offense, and allowing just 14 a game. That's what I call a "wow" factor.
4. Walnut (5-0) - Is this the point of the season where the rubber meets the road for the Mustangs? Are they good enough to challenge for the league title? Are they good enough to make the playoffs. We will all soon find out.
5. West Covina (3-3) - Not ranked or even listed in "others" in the Southeast rankings, the Bulldogs are still considered by many to be the "actual" San Antonio League favorites, and what better way to start league than with rival South Hills.
6. Glendora (3-2) - The Tartans' victory over El Dorado was by far their most impressive of the season. Offensively and defensively, they're starting to click, and what better time to do so than with league starting up.
7. South Hills (3-2) - The Huskies learned this week that Jordan and Jamie Canada's state appeal was denied, so the question now becomes are they good enough to contend with what they will have the rest of the way.
8. San Dimas (4-1) - After losing to Monrovia a couple weeks back, the Saints needed a "swag" victory over Bonita to feel good about themselves heading into the Valle Vista. Guess what, they got it.
9. Baldwin Park (4-1) -- The verdict is still out as the Braves open the VVL with a much improved Covina squad that is 3-2 and hoping to become the league sleeper.
10. Damien (1-4) -- The Spartans' second season begins on Friday against Chino Hills followed by Glendora next week. Talk about a tough way to start the Sierra.

The Middle 10
11. Azusa (5-1), 12. Arroyo (3-2), 13. Workman (4-1), 14. Wilson (4-1), 15. Covina (2-3), 16. Los Altos (2-3), 17. La Puente (4-2), 18. Diamond Ranch (1-5), 19. Gladstone (4-1), 20. Bonita (1-4).

On the bottom looking up
21. Sierra Vista (3-2), 22. Rosemead (1-4), 23. Northview (1-4), 24. Nogales (2-4), 25. Bassett (3-3), 26. Diamond Bar (0-5), 27. El Monte (0-5), 28. South El Monte (0-5), 29. Mountain View (0-5), 30. Ganesha (0-5), 31. Duarte (0-6)

RESPECT THE SIDELINE...LET'S STAY AS ONE said:

Walnut Insider, I know you mean well but the rule applies..."WHAT GOES ON IN THE LOCKER ROOM STAY IN THE LOCKER ROOM AND WHAT HAPPENS ON THE SIDELINES IS PRIVILEDGEE INFORMATION"

NO XCEPTIONS !

HOW AND WHY DO YOU HAVE A PASS?

UNDERSTAND THAT NO ONE BENEFITS FROM YOUR OBSERVATIONS....TAKE IT UP WITH THE COACHES OR GET THE FKC OFF THE SIDELINES!!!

GUYS LIKE YOU MAKE ME SICK TO MY STOMACH...AM I CLEAR ENOUGH???

I know you want to be insightful but seriously...you are HURTING your team...I see things all the time but you know what...that happens...IF you love the school don't continue...Im sorry if I have offended you but coming on here and breaking down coaches sideline antics is only okay if you see it form teh stands, understand?

if you have a sideline pass you've been invited...which is an honor or you have a job or youre one of those used to be a baller alumni who just like being "seen" there as a sign of "Im SPECIAL"....either way respect the sideline..

Curious:
What I meant about the flag thing is that let's say there is a holding call or offsides, the coaches start yelling at the official and if they call it then they take credit for the flag being thrown. And then they brag about it.

Sideline Pass:
I could have easily have named the coaches, like some people might have, but I didn't. These are my observations and it's something I have noticed the couple of times I was on the field during the game.

SIDELINE PASSES ARE AN HONOR said:

Walnut Insider....I like people who use the Old School reference and then betray an Old School rule. Walnut Insider count yourself "lucky" that anyone would "allow" you "ACCESS" on the sielines of any game...Pop Warner, JAA, Hisgh School, College or Pros.

I've been fortunate to be there several times and while you do get to see the game, players and coaches from a unique and exciting persperctive I believe those "INSIGTS" should be kept POSITIVE and ANY NEGATIVE OBSERVATIONS SHOULD BE KEPT BETWEEN YOU AND THE TEAM.

Everyone wants to be an INSIDER but you have to remember the RESPONSIBILITY that comes with this HONOR...and YES!!!! ...it is an HONOR to be there.

SHAME ON YOU FOR BETRAYING THAT TRUST

IT'S PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT MAKE SOME PROGRAMS REVOKE ALL ACCESS

BAD FORM MY MAN...BAD FORM

Bishop Amat probably has arguably the best staff of coaches from top to bottom. The only other staff that we can compare Amat's to, is Oaks Christian. Other than that, I don't see a lot of staffs out there with the quality coaches Bishop has.

Walnut Insider:

I agree with you, IF the coaches are taunting players from others schools, then they do need to grow up.

But I'm kind of lost about the flag thing, if the players are responsible for a penalty, then I believe the coach has every right to say, hey the flag is on you.

Also, I believe a lot of coaching staffs have dead weight and don't utilize their coaches well enough. But put coaches on blast if you no idea what their actual role is. Just because you are on the sideline, doesn't mean you know the value of these coaches.

ANL2:
Walnut and Rowland really haven't beaten anyone of significance, which has been talked to death around here. So until they start winning league games this year, it's too early to talk about them. Remember Walnut was 4-1 last year at this time.

I do agree with Fred when he said this game is basically a playoff game for Walnut and Rowland. Chances of either of them making the playoffs without winning this game is very slim.

As for their assistant coaches...where to start? I have been on the sidelines for a few of the games this year and some of those coaches are very immature. Taunting players from the other team, cursing the entire time, and telling players that they are the reason a flag is thrown. Call me old school, but that just doesn't seem right.

Look, O'Shields has done a fine job this year (and I still think they will make the playoffs), but I think he could cut about 2-3 coaches and be ok. There looks like there is a lot of dead weight on that staff.

ANL2,
I can't deny the job the coaches from Walnut and Rowland have done so far this year, my hat is off to tham also. Maybe we can look at a 3 way tie. I'm just going by what the all-knowing, all-seeing Mr. Gurus prediction before the season started.

"If Hagerty wins more than 4 games this year he should be the Coach of the Year."

Oh Guru! Knock, knock. Is anyone home?

Couldn't have put it any better myself. That staff is working wonders with our Men in Blue .It started last season and continues this season even stronger. They are really buying into what Hags and staff are selling and you are so right on the special teams faze of our game plans. Those runbacks and returns are not luck, they are seen ahead of time while breaking down film. Big game this week again. It seems every week the games get bigger and bigger for us. MFS I knew you would know the value of the film study in the kicking game. Friday night at the slime pit and if it rains it will be like old times . AMAT vs the slime in the rain . How sweet it is.

How about the Coaches from Walnut or Rowland?

I still think if anyone deserves the award it would be the "WHOLE BISHOP AMAT STAFF"...they make great in game calls, obviously are coaching up average talent ( for the most part) to play like giants...please no one get offended....its a compliment really....and the assistants are spotting team's weaknesses on film...especially on punt and KO returns...

Not to single any Amat player out but Amat is so coached up it's almost unbelievable...unless you "BELIEVE" ...and teh young Lancers do.

Tough to deny Hags "STAFF" the award at this juncture.

I'm still waiting to hear when Guru is going to present Hags with his "Coach of the Year" trophy. This has to be the earliest that this has been awarded in the history of the SGV.

Unreal... said:

These rankings are flawed. Fred doesn't believe the #1 team could beat the #2 team. So that makes #2 the real #1, according to Fred.

Right, Fred?

Its cool, the rest of the SGV knows that Amat is #1, Charter Oak is #2, and its the rest of the SGV after them.

Thank goodness all the preseason hoopla is over. Here is where we separate the haves from the have nots. Looking at the SGV top 10, it's Amat, CO and all the rest battling for 3 through 10. A couple of teams that could make serious moves on the list in the next 3 weeks? Damien and DRanch. They've both already seen the best so here comes the rest. Good Luck to all teams in league play. May the cream rise to the top.

SGV430 Ouuut!

Bonita's record isn't very good but they would beat all the middle 10 teams. The league will sort itself out. I am prediction CO wins League and D Ranch and Bonita get 2nd and 3rd. Bonita makes the playoffs. The are a darn good team. New season boys.... League is what really matters.

If Baldwin Park is ranked in the top 10 then Azusa should be as well.
