Saturday Morning Quarterback: Damien back in a big way, topples Glendora 21-0; Bishop Amat goes to a perfect 7-0, beating Alemany 36-14

| | Comments (217) |

Damien coach Greg Gano
"It's a long time coming. Our kids played a heck of a football game. Maybe we will get some momentum, because we're a better team than what we showed against Chino Hills (38-6 loss). We needed this very badly."
Glendora's Mark Pasquarella on losing Andre Holmes to a first-quarter knee injury.
"We kind of scrambled a little bit because he's a big part of what we do. But the big issue was we couldn't protect our quarterback. If we can't protect him it's going to be a long night no matter who we're playing."

Friday's results
Damien 21, Glendora 0 -- The Spartans are back in the Sierra League race after blanking the Tartans and sacking quarterback Chad Jeffries five times. The news is worse for Glendora, who lost RB/DB Andre Holmes to a knee injury in the first quarter. He watched the rest of the game on crutches.
Bishop Amat 36, Alemany 14 -- The wins are more impressive by the week. The Lancers are no longer squeaking by quality opponents, they're shoving them aside with the powerful Serra League up next.
Bonita 26, Los Altos 20 -- It went back-and-forth with the Bearcats mounting a last minute drive to pull it off. The heartache continues for the Conqs.
Charter Oak 12, Diamond Ranch 0 -- The Panthers usually play the Chargers tough, but the outcome is always the same, another loss.
La Puente 38, Bassett 6 -- Another easy win for the Warriors, making you wonder what happened against Azusa.
Workman 45, Sierra Vista 20 -- The Lobos keep themselves in the thick of the Montview race with a whipping over the Dons.
South Hills 42, Nogales 17 -- The Huskies put on the breaks by halftime and cruised home. They get Los Altos before finishing with Walnut and Rowland.
West Covina 31, Walnut 11 -- The Bulldogs bounce back, winning the game both teams had to have in a tight playoff race in the San Antonio.
San Dimas 35, Covina 0 -- The Saints defense does it again, blanking an offensive-minded Colts squad.
Ganesha 9, Northview 7 -- The Vikings allow the Giants to win their first Valle Vista league game since 2002 ... Can you say, "ouch."
Rowland 56, Wilson 12 -- The Raiders don't have any problems in game one after Michael Ball's injury, but they still have South Hills and West Covina to deal with at some point.
Arroyo 41, Gabrielino 0 -- The Knights continue to cruise through the Mission Valley league, winning another easy one.
Rosemead 41, Mountain View 7 -- The Panthers need wins to get themselves back in the playoffs. This only helps.
Ayala 43, Diamond Bar 10 -- The Brahmas continue to struggle and struggle badly.
South El Monte 22, El Monte 19 -- That's 2-0 in the MVL for the Eagles, who won the first annual Griffin Bowl

Now the DB of new...well that's been more of an internal problem don't you think? Last year after baseball season I don't recall the Edmonds bashing but I do recall tons of calls for the head coach's head, the AD's butt and some unique player bashing/parent slinging.

Coaching MATTERS! Martin is no Terry Roche my friend.

Shibley? uptight OCD freak! I give him 2 years tops.He has little ones spend your time there. If you think last years head hunters were tough wait for this years...let the fireworks begin.

Having the linebacking core out doesn't help. Evan Highley just won his first game as a starter and by all accounts it sounds like he's out. It feels as such that Bonita is depleted with all of the guys they have out. Bonita is not out two QBs, from what I understand Garrett Pendleton was unavailable having missed three days of practice because of the flu before Bonita played Charter Oak.

I don't think he made enough mistakes to warrant being replaced, however in development you could tell he was raw when it came to making reads and what to do with the ball once flushed out of the pocket. The first pump fake I've seen all season was last Friday against Los Altos by Highley. Pendleton has a rocket arm and had pretty much brought Bonita back and were on the go ahead drive against Claremont until a holding penalty nullified a 1st down.

He has the talent and with a win here can definitely reassert himself as the starter. Pendleton has a rocket arm and can thread the needle.

Having those guys out on defense is going to be hard to swallow but it's time for the offense to carry the team. Cody Sykes had a great game this last week, and Kevin Flickinger was all alone at times and at 6'4" get him the ball when he's all alone or just has man coverage on him. Bonita will also have to use their running game as well, in games that they have averaged over 100yds a game they are 2-2 and could very well 4-0 in those games.

It is going to be tough, but you gotta believe!!!

Continue the turnaround. GO BEARCATS!!!

Randy buddy, my point was that wasn't that those other schools are replacing what DB and Chino were. It was just a theory as to what has contributed to their fall from dominance. The thing about public schools is that it's all a cycle. Both schools I'm sure will rise again at some point in the future. Unfortunatly for all the public school in the area, it looks like Amat is back. I'm not a big fan of theirs, but I have to give credit where credit is due. I have seen them up close. They don't do anything fancy. It seems like their attitude is that we are going to block and tackle better than you.

This week will mark the end of an era as two titans from years gone past meet one again, Chino and Diamond Bar will play for the old times sake...maybe there should be a shout out to all the former greats before they grow too old to walk across the field without walkers...what must they be now...in their early 40's....just kidding

Good luck randy ...hope you're there to see the fireworks !!!

Yo "time to the the page"......i dont keep bringing all this up, "they" do, the haters of the old guard....all of "them"...they are against me, against us..........wait......uh.....hmmmmm....maybe that does sound crazy, but i dont come on here tooting my horn and poking at the old tiger, i just try to come its defense, and have to constantly remind folks that those old champs did it against DIV 2 competition, back when 1 thru 11 meant somethng :)

i just respond back, i dont lie there have nameless rubes throw rocks without saying something meaningful and SO VERY TRUTHFUL, and i like to remind everything that NO ONE has replaced the old guys as champs.....gotta be proud of these facts and the schools history---heres looking to brighter days ahead,.....and i do so hope that this new Sierra league stays in the Southeast Division for playoff groupings...that would be so sweet......i think DRanch would hate that....but it would be just to keep us east side SGVers all together...so no one just runs away with the prize (i.e. DR).....

I'm ok now, really.....i just need to find my meds, or my rum......

randy you aggressive little Yosemite Sammmie. What are you talking about? Three quarters of the Inland Empire didn't exist when DB won those Championships and were ruling the day. DB was once a proud school with a dominant sport's program but what are they now? I suggest to you that was SGV30's point all along.

randy you might want to chill a little. No one lacks respect for what DB did back in the day. However, what some might disagree with though is the constant dismissive attitude of the athetes and coaches on campus and their efforts against better programs.

In fact some might say you guys might be venturing into Gary Coleman territority. Wasn't he once on top of the world and was reduced to You Tube fodder? The low point had to be seeing the former #1 NBC entertainer on the hood of a car in his Security Guard uniform....ouch!

randy is that where Diamond Bar is headed, I don't think so but reading some of the DB comments it would seem possible. DB is averaging almost 20 points a game so next year you can add 6 points in the new league and hope you start winning again as teh defense gets stronger and more experienced.

The Van Horne and Edmonds days were great but why get so angry all the time with others who see things from the outside looking in slightly clearer.

Best of luck in the new league...timing in sports is everyting...make the most of your new opportunity and hopefully get another banner soon.

SGV fo 30, just remember bro, DBAR and Chino were the last Sierra league teams to win CIF championships....since they both fell off the map NO ONE FROM THE SIERRA or DRANCH has risen to take their spots.....you would think that since these new schools are getting the cream of the crop that they would be hoisting a few new flags here and there, but no......they arent, they havent been producing at the rate DBAR and Chino did in the '90s.....so those days are over (winning D2/D3 championships), but when do those begin at these new "dynastys"??? Its been 10 years since they opened...WTF fellas? Its been all lip service, whith a few CO azz whuppings thrown in here and there for EVERYONE to wallow in.......Our heydeys maybe over, but stop acting like your schools (Damien, Glendora, DRanch, Chino Hills---who even with ROCHE NEVER GOT PAST THE SECOND ROUND) stepped right in behind us and filled them shoes.....You obviously have all been chopping at bit for us to fall, but none of the above mentioned can do what our boys did.....good day to you sirs....

SGV for 30 Years said:

D-Bar people pay close attention to this theory. Both D-Bar and Chino were once the dominate programs in the area. You both dominated in the late 90's and early 2000's. Then new schools started watering down your athlete pool. D-Bar was getting all those east Diamond Bar (Lorbeer Middle School) kids. Now those kids go to Diamond Ranch. Right now if you were an athlete and had to choose DRanch or DBar where would you go? If you lived in Chino and could go to Chino Hills, Ayala, or Chino which one would you choose? Don't feel bad, Walnut went through the samething back when D-Bar opened. It took Walnut years to recover. When athletes have choices they want to go with who is winning at the time. When D-Bar was winning back to back CIF championships a few years back Walnut was something like 1-20. There were quite a few Walnut kids on those teams. Infact one player transfered from Walnut where he was a starter to D-Bar where he was a back-up and special teamer. The challenge for Chino and D-bar is will being in a new league really help? Or are they both doomed to be stuck in the middle where the top teams (Chino Hills, Ayala, Amat, CO) want to play them and the bottom teams (Bassett, LP, Workman, Ganesha, Garey) don't.

DO THIS TO GET IT said:

SPARTAN DAD,
The real way to prove the IT part and bring tremendous credibility to Damien's program would be for them to get out of the league they are in and move into the Serra . That is really where they belong in private or Catholic school league. It is time they faced the facts and stood up to the real challenge if they ever what to be recognized as a true power in football. Enough of the Sierra and earn some real respect and show just how strong they can be .

Why Stan Lee, sometimes. The thing I see in Gano is that IT quality. He has IT! Whatever IT is. He also has four CIF CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS that equals what I would call IT. You either have IT or you don't. See, the reason why Damien Fans are excited about Gano is that we are not used to having a coach with IT as one of his characteristics. Don't assume for a second that I think that we are world beaters because we beat Glendora. But, we have three winnable games left on our schedule. At this point in Gano's career at Damien a playoff game would be a plus. Because it is his first year & our schedule was probably the 2nd toughest behind Amat's. Our expectations will go up at Damien, as will our program. Everyone keeps bringing up the past and a weak tradition at Damien. I believe that Damiens tradition whatever you think it is, is gonna get a whole lot better. If Gano stays at Damien long enough, i think he is gonna win a championship or two. Look at his career record lifetime in the playoffs it is pretty good. So if we can give him enough talent to make the playoffs, Gano & his staff will win some playoff games. Everyone was quick to jump all over him, but his supporters are thinking playoffs not non-league losses.

Well after playing both co and ba...these two teams have one thing in common...good coaching. Amat is very fundimental with there play selection "thats a good thing" there key players do what is expected of them. There line men..not that big..but very strong...co has very good key players and when there line men are at full potenial there key players do there "thing" one thing i did see (i was at co side lines when they played dr)was there line men were flat out gassed by the mid-3rd qrt. That line "both sides" are big but they get gassed too quick. "remember co played against our 2nd stringers, we had 8-10 players out with the flu...most of those players were starters....so dont feel so good with that win co...if we were at full level it might of been a different outcome" as for the amat game you guys didnt really beat us WE BEAT OUR SELFS we decided to have the worst game of the year against ba...but good teams take advantage of other teams misfourtune and they did. So WHO IS A BETTER TEAM....i think if amat and co would play it would be AMAT that would come out on top only because of your basic fundimental play...keep simple...always works...now if co plays at there full potential they would be hard to beat...consistant play wins games..that type of play was not present last friday night..your running back did nothing against our 10th and 11th graders...because your hogs were out of shape..BOTH AMAT AND CHARTER OAK ARE GREAT TEAMS WITH GREAT HISTORY....DR HAS SEVEN YEARS OF FOOTBALL UNDER THERE BELT..SEVEN YEARS..GIVE US TIME AND WE WILL OWN THE SGV...

We win 3 games one week at a time & the playoffs are in our grasp. Amat, CO, & Rancho know that we are a tough team when we play well. Those three teams are excellent programs, and we hung tough with every one of them. You guys bang on Fred for the pub, but you guys don't face facts. Damien played a schedule tougher than any other school in the SGV except for Amat. They whooped Glendora's ass last friday, & They could probably beat Rowland too. Those tough losses have made this team galvanize. Gano is on track with these boys, & 3 wins away from doing something all you haters thought was impossible, go to the playoffs. If people thing Gano is on his own without backing you are mistaken. You haven't sat in the stands at practice & listened to the parent's marvel at Gano's practices, even at
1-5. If this team goes 5-5 & 4-1 in league, I think we would be ahead of schedule. Five losses against Rancho, SJB, Amat, CO, & Chino Hills. Please fellas, all of those teams would beat up on 7 of the top ten schools in the SGV.

From a freshman team of 40 kids Martin has only been able to keep 19 playing football this year and only four of them started last year as juniors. And let's look at the "program" not just the varsity. Every team is 0-7! 0-21 as a proGRAM. Thank goodness Chino is next. Of course, people in Chino are saying, "thank god Diamond Bar is next"! All those things you said about getting out in the community and making sure your players stay home...Martin has said, that's not part of his job. Neither is helping kids get scholarships. he didn nothing for Lockett and Hunter. He has four players that could probably play Div 2 or 3 ball but has not contacted one school to help his kids. I know he has a youngster at home and his time is scarce. Then don't coach varsity football..Diamond Bar please find older successful coaches for all of your big three sports. As far as your second Blue Book quote goes, I don't see its relevance to your argument. It only applies to transfer students claiming a change of address and then only to those who are transferring after the 9th grade. Up to this point you have not claimed any issues with those transfers OTHER THAN Los Altos accepting them.

Once again this is an HLPUSD issue as to whether or not they should have been accepted. I am quite confident if the HLPUSD allows them to stay, CIF will allow them play.

Obviously time will tell which of us is correct so at this point I am willing to wait and see and will humbly apologize if proved wrong.

Talk to the C.O.'s district and high school administration. Usually, the high school football teams have nothing to do with the economy. Your probably pointing the finger at the wrong person. After 40 years in the community, I doubt the unofficial mayor of Charter Oak would turn his back on his own community especially since there is another generation at that very age now. Facts are facts and at least in our area that was what actually occurred with us. I hate when people speak from ignorance. You seem relentless? What's your beef with LA? What the hell do you do for a living? I don't think anyone needs to call CIF. CIF has cleared this kid to play so there is "NO" need to call. You sound like the boy who cried wolf. Go ahead keep it up.......

Conq,

Have you read the comments earlier in this thread? The short version LA became closed enrollment effective 2009. When they changed their status to closed they could no longer take new students from outside their attendance area. Per CIF they cannot take athletics either. As I have stated in the past no names. You have a sophomore running back that is new at Los Altos this year. He doesn't live in the area, not even close. Per CIF even if he doctored up his address he would have been ok due to his one free move. But because Los Altos is closed enrollment that free move could only be LA if he lived in the enrollment area, he doesn't.

As I have requested to all those other LA bloggers, please call CIF validate what I am saying. I started posting this information last Thursday, to date no LA blogger has made the call.

He Can't give out names said:

There were 7 people in the meeting with the district superintendent - she asked everyone for a "no-comment" on what was discussed over that 2 hour meeting and the closed door school board meeting was over // until the district investigation is over ---- the results of the meetings concerning the LA-Wilson game and the student involved with be forthcoming - no one in that meeting has broken her request as of the moment, not even Schreiman

What are you trying to pull? Do you have any names of kids that are in said violation? I didn't think so. Give out the names or just shut up! I double dog dare you! Nick,

Very Similar situation in the Heights, during Gano's era. The school district would charge the local youth program and then Gano expected at least another 1K donated to the program. One year we had a Regional Playoff game at home, Gano requested another 1K donation to use the field that day.

Felipe isn't quite that bold.

Kind of ironic that when we play Bonita your going to be rooting for us. Looks like Moe is out for the rest of the season so

The San Dimas program have made it clear the will take them with open arms.I guest after all these years of getting kids from out of the area (Pasadena, Duarte,Monrovia) there is no need to back a youth football & cheer program in your back yard.Big Lou remember 'Don't bit the hand that feeds you" AND enjoy your last year in this league. They cant believe so much energy and time is directed to another school. They are doing there best to turn the program around over there, they said they feel like there spining there wheels because of all the attention there own fans are directing towards Los Altos.
As far as we are concerned though, let them keep it up, it just hurts them in the long run,it is amazing how high school football can get so deep in there heads when things dont go there way.

Prep Fan,

Are you flat out stupid or what?

First off the concern from multi people is that the district may attempt to cover it up. This is a major issue for all LA sports programs. Any ineligible player playing at the varsity level would cause that team to forfeit all its wins. This is all sports, not just football.

Here is a few comments out of the blue book;

(5) Intra-district and Inter-district Transfers/Open Enrollment
Each Section shall adopt rules and procedures that address eligibility pursuant to the provisions of the State Education Code sections 35160.5(b)(1) et seq. and 48300 et seq. (“open enrollment” and school choice legislation). However, the Section Commissioner shall make all final determinations of transfer eligibility.
(See Bylaw 207.B.)

207.5 The attendance area of a student enrolled in a private school is defined as the public high school attendance area in which the student resides.

Note - (“open enrollment” and school choice legislation). Los Altos is no longer open enrollment or a choice school effective 2009.

Which means the only way you can be athletically eligible is by living in "public high school attendance area"

Do us all a favor call CIF, until then please don't comment on something you have no knowledge of?

It all makes sense now. You want CIF, the LA Times, and Fred to enforce HLPUSD enrollment policy even though it is not under any of their jurisdictions.

You are right that the district would need to do something as no one else can or will even care. Good luck in your cohorts vindictive pursuit of vengeance for all the mean things Los Altos has done to you.

First off, I am not a former coach nor am I a former player. I am someone who has been around all of Walnut High sports for the past 20+ years.

As for forgetting about Coach Cuccia, I didn't. I am trying to erase that guy from my mind. He was the biggest embarrassment to the Walnut program ever. I have never heard so much cursing from a Walnut coach in my life, and that includes Patricio. I made the mistake of sitting under the press box for a game and was utterly shocked and embarrassed by the words that came out of his mouth. I could see that the parents were also ashamed of his behavior. I think Cuccia leaving was a mutual thing and he and his behavior isn't missed.

I do feel like Walnut had a great chance to finish in second. You had 3 great skill kids. Aubrey and Rhodes are taller than 90% of the players they go up against. How hard is it to throw the ball up to those two every play? How hard is it to throw a swing pass to Rhodes and let him go? It's a combination of bad play calling and the players not playing hard enough. Walnut's league isn't that tough. They could have easily made the playoffs this year, but didn't...for whatever reason.

As for me "shaming the program", you in your one post "blasted" the entire program, players, and coaches. I can't agree with all of your post, but I do agree with most of it.

Tell me though, after reading my post and yours, who "blasts" the coaches, players, and program more?

LA Busted said:

First off I am not Shreimen. At our varsity parent meeting there were about 50 parnets that showed up. Shreimen told us that he agreed with the district superintendant to not blog about any of this until she finished her investigation. But the parents at our meeting didn't agree. Shreimen told us that he was aware of this issue since the summer, but didn't want to stir up trouble with LA. After all the LA bloggers comments, the incident at the game, and your head coaches lies aka comments to Fred that were printed on the front page of the Tribune the day before the meeting, he then decided to address this issue with the school district.

If the district doesn't take care of it, the information is going to be forwarded to all the schools in your leagues of all your sports, the Tribune, and the LA Times. For the record Mr. Shreimen asked over 20 people at Wilson me being one if he should move forward with this. All I can say is the people held multi positions within the school, from parents to employee's every one of them said do it. He has 100% support from Wilson on this action. If you think he doesn't, why don't you come to our next meeting, it is going to be sometime next week. The district superintendant said she is going to get back with us next week to give us status on the investigation.

BALancerfan…I’m off the thread for a day because I have other more important things to do and this means that the cat’s got my tongue? Dude, apparently you haven’t been paying attention because I respond to EVERYTHING. So, I’d like to also dedicate the following message to you.

More of just saying’s far, far, far superior Pac-5 division crapola…what exactly is your point because it sure looks like blather. I have repeatedly said that the 29 team Pac-5 contains some of the best INDIVIDUAL TEAMS in the state…this is a fact and I have NEVER said otherwise. No, what I have said is that just because a team is in the Pac-5 doesn’t make them far, far, far superior…which Amat honks like to use when things aren’t going so well. Remember that our little discussion revolved around the we’d rather lose in the Pac-5 than win a “lower” D title nonsense that Amat spouts to disrespect and belittle the CIF titles of teams like CO and Rancho Cucamonga? Well, I have called this “greatness by association” and pointed out that MaxPreps posts a disclaimer that they ignore leagues and divisions when evaluating INDIVIDUAL TEAMS and also that the bottom ten of the Pac-5 routinely gets beat by the good teams from these so-called lower divisions…both of which are true. Anyone out there want to argue that teams like Cabrillo, Jordan, Aliso Niguel and Marina are far, far, far superior because last time I checked aren’t they also in the Pac-5? It is called focusing on the great teams to argue that this makes you a great team “by association” and ignoring the bad teams in the process…greatness by association, get it BALancerfan…because I already know that just sayin doesn’t? Now this year’s version of Amat has proven on the field that they are one of the great teams and because of this they deserve every accolade that they are receiving. Heck, I have said that for my money you’re going 10-0 and will get a shot at the CIF title…anyone want to argue the same applies to Cabrillo, Jordan, Aliso Niguel and Marina? Greatness by association is the same sort of illogical garbage as the transitive property…anyone care to disagree?

Now to C.O. Beep Beep Crowd...I’m just a fan with no kid on the team and don't personally know Mr. Yougblood but I certainly respect his tough minded attitude and play on the field. One has to think that some college scouts are watching him now. By the way, Thropay broke/separated his collarbone and is out 4-6 weeks so his season is over.

And Beep Beep…I'm not being critical of the team...just an honest observer of the game plan and not some homer with blinders. And, we all want the same thing which is a team that plays to their potential and not miss that mark because of an over abundance of caution. Others are on this thread are saying the exact same thing so I'm not alone. Heck, Friday night I was sitting by 3 guys that I have never seen before in my life and they were complaining the whole game about the overly conservative play calling on offense...in the 3rd and 4th quarters they were yelling towards CO's sideline for the coaches to open up the offense. Just looking at the difference on the field in talent especially size and speed, CO should have scored 40 points against DR. CO got a win but can you honestly say that they didn’t underachieve? You do realize that if your answer is no, than that means that this team is very average…I’m saying that they are not and just not performing to their potential in part because the CO coaching staff is very conservative.

Sure, CO can beat the DR’s of the area with a one-headed offense (e.g. 85% of the time just run between the tackles) but this may not work so well if they want to win another title. And, the teams that they will get next year in the playoffs will shut down the run the same as Rancho Cucamonga did…RC put 8-9 men in the box the whole night with the safety like 10 yards off the line of scrimmage and CO was still running the ball. Didn’t work, did it?

Amat honk is right, if CO played them and they ran this one-dimensional offense then they’d score 10 points and this is only because the defense would get them the ball with good field position. I haven’t seen Amat play this year but I read the stats and my guess is that the final score would be 24-10 with Amat throwing the ball 20-25 times for 160 yards passing and CO throwing 10 times for only 60 yards. Even though CO is very strong in the secondary with Rufus, Golden and Powell…all college recruits…so they might get an interception or even two but the good passing team is also going to hit pay dirt 2-3 times. Over the past few years, I’ve seen perhaps a dozen Pac-5 teams on TV and the willingness to use the passing game is what separates them from most of the local teams. CO has some really talented skill players this year so why not use them? I know, there is the sophomore QB but I’ve watched this kid since he was 7 years old and believe me he can handle it.

Not me being critical, this is just what I saw and other CO fans are saying the same thing…it is what it is so I am not going to sugarcoat it.

So BALancerfan, why is what I’m saying about CO’s offense any different than what a few short weeks ago some Amat honks were saying on this blog about their offense? And, didn’t you read jcaz’s comments on this very thread? CO needs to open up the same as Amat has recently done. As I said earlier, if you want to beat the big boys than you better have a passing attack.

And Dranchhhh, CO won so there is no need to feel better. Read Panther Fan’s post…he made excuses and predicted that the outcome will be different if the teams meet in the playoffs…I’m saying that I doubt it. And, as you can read…we are on the same page that CO has to change some things or else they aren’t going to win another title. Finally, apparently you see much better than the side line referee, who was 15 feet away from the Rufus catch, and the back referee too because they BOTH signaled TD…you didn’t see this?

All right, enough of my own blathering.

Walnut Insider

Shame on you! I must believe you are a former Coach or a player on the team that gets no love from the Coaches and poses as an old spectator. You have done nothing but bring shame on yourself and to a program that never really has football players in the first place.

You wanna start with the offense. Well, tell me why they can't get multiple first downs? Why can't they move the ball down the field and if they move the ball down the field why can't they score. Its disappointing to see that with all those mediocre athletes they can't score. Because the insider says they don't have athletes But as far as the coaching staff goes.

You have to start with Coach O'Shields, when all else fails you have to start with the Head Coach and then you look at the staff. Coach O'Shields was not ready for this position in the first place. He took over a job that even Coach Person saw was heading in the wrong direction, Coach Person knew that the type of Athletes Walnut was getting and knew it was time to step down. Till this day I have no idea what Coach O'Shields stands for or what he tries to implement as a Coach. Don't get me wrong he went from that horrible 3 back offense to a spread offense, but who does he really spread the ball out to. Aubrey, King, Rhodes? That's about it. When you have guys like an Aubrey, Rhodes or a King and you can't get a first down on fourth and 1, who do you blame. Coach O'Shields is not averaging 40 points a game and never did against Rowland, South Hills and West Covina. His offense can't move the ball against the big boys. I have no clue why you the insider thought they'd finish second they cant score against real teams. They can't stop blitzing teams and every team does the samething man up and stack the box. But by the way there playing the second teamers can come in and shut down a spread offense with two RBs in the back fields. Bottom line those teams have better players. Then you look at his line, well, who the hell is the line Coach? Coach Warren! Are you kidding me? The supposed line Coach of the year has done nothing with a line. But they are small as hell. They haven't improved and blocked for sh't. They cannot run the ball. CANNOT run the ball. The RB Coach a holdover from D-bar and D-bar sucks now. They stand up high and cant block for sh't The WR Coach, come on, they don't even get the ball. And when they do they drop the ball. They run crappy routes and always misaligned.

Now the defense, you said it best they don't have a defensive line, a front seven and no secondary no wonder they give up 21 points because by the expert Walnut INSIDER they dont have anybody that can play defense. Hell yes, they are on the field forever. When the defense has to comeback onto the field after one play or two plays later then the defense sucks. Teams have figured it out, were f-in bigger than Walnut run right at them, their d-line is mediocre and freakishly small, their linebackers cannot tackle, and the DB's give up the big play time and time again.

Now the staff, lets start with the previous defensive coordinator, it was not Coach Peralta it was Coach Cuccia from Diamond Bar, former head coach who have up over 35 points a game. Coach peralta was the Defensive Coordinator before Cuccia and didn't fare too much better. Know you're f-in history mister "insider" before you talk your sh.t. Also, both these Coaches were Defensive Coordinators for 1 f-in year. Coach Devera, coached at Amat, woohoo, big f-in deal Bishop Amat. Plus when Amat gets former NFL coaches to coach for you why would you hire anyone else? Sh't I wouldnt hire back anyone else from other staffs if I have former NFL players coming out of my ass left and right. Coach Peralta was not re-hired as the Defensive Coordinator because he wasn't ready and really doesnt know much about defense. Cuccia left because supposedly a Coach that won cif titles, couldnt stop the bleeding. Coach devera, has no athletes and doesn't coach any position on staff. Yet, the common denominator is they all didnt have players. Coach Peralta just wasn't ready, Coach Cuccia and Coach Devera have no talent. Now the defensive staff. defensive line coach, Coach peralta, coaches an undersized defensive line and can't get rhodes to play defensive end. They get there a's kicked all the time. Just run right at them. LB's Coach Ryan O'shields, the Head Coaches son, he was helluva of player, but thats it, not a real great coach. Coach Dimonico, now that guy f-in yells. He has no idea how to coach, but time and time again his db's get burned. but like you said insider they dont have players.

So insider, here's the truth just as you said Walnut has no real football players. Insider you're a f-in joke. One day you're someone gonna lay you out for all the bullsh't you pulled on her. A team is 5 and 2 and has no one you talk sh't against the staff and the players. The bottom line Walnut cannot go toe for toe against the teams in league they just dont have the dudes to do it. its not kids faults nor the coaches. They're just not a football school. So stop blasting, name dropping cause when Walnut finds out who you are. We'll see how your name gets dropped everywhere.

Are you really trying to make yourself feel better? Dude, We lost the game, this is true, however, 26-0 or 12-0, (8) of our starters were NOT suited up. Almond, Gibson, Price, M.Viramontes, Wells, Taylor, and Clarkson. #3, Fisher, sophmore kid just made 15 yrs old. He made your seniors look like ass on a few plays. #34, #40, #54, all sophmores at LB. Shut Muema down dude. With the size of those 3 kids Muema should have put up 400 yds rushing.

Put it this way, yea, we dont have any depth this year and our offense is seriously strugglin', however if CO contiues to play as horrible as you guys did, you wont see a CIF ring this year. With all due respect, CO is not the best team in the SGV this year and it shows and your previous nailbiters against Gardena Etiwanda and US prove that. Oh and that 12-0 score was the result of 2 FG's and one touch down with a 2pt conversion that was picked off. BTW the TD didnt come until the end of the 4th qtr. I will give you guys credit on your win but dont boast like your not horrible and not as talented as last years team with the majority of your starters returning!!

And negated TD's my ass, Rufus clearly caught the ball out of bounds, I was on your sidelines. BTW way #5 on our team is 5'5, 155 lbs soakin wet and you guys could not score with a 6'2 Rufus all night until the end. And Powell's knee and elbow went down on that 35 yd run.

Spend more time improving your teams craft instead of belittling others!!

I was just telling these DR guys it was completely disingenuous to say that CO sucks when not only are they the defending champs in both the league and the division but they just blanked their first two league opponents one of them being the Panthers. Good high school coaches can come in and turn around a program in 2 years. You can't blame the past 2 brahma coaches for the present teams 0-7 record. You need to go out into the community and keep the players in the DBHS school district interested in playing for the brahmas. In addition with legalized recruiting(one time frosh transfer),8th graders going anywhere they want you must find players like the big time programs.
As for moving into a new league I see DBHS only beating Walnut and Los Altos thus going 2-5 in league. They better schedule the right preseason teams to go 5-5 for the year. They need to keep Brea on the schedule and get rid of Charter Oak and Troy. There are a lot of new schools coming up in the IE and they could schedule teams like Citrus Valley in Redlands, and Chino.

Happy Saturday everyone. Here's a great article from KCal 9/CBS 2 high school reporter Rashaun Haylock. He got to experience an Amat football game for the first time last night and here is what he had to say:

The Legend That Is Amat

Posted by rhaylock

We were out at Bishop Amat Friday night and I must say, there is no greater venue to catch a high school football game than at Amat, at least that I've been to thus far. The atmosphere there is amazing. It has that small-town feel. As you make your way into Kiefer Stadium, you hear the PA announcer delivering the play by play over the loudspeaker. Once you step inside, it just takes your breath away. It was homecoming, so you can only imagine the atmosphere, with the alum and it being a packed house, but everyone that I talked to told me that its like that every home game.

The tailgaiting starts at around 4:30pm and restarts again once the game concludes. The Amat faithful go into the night, shutting everything down around 11pm. The concessions on game day are great. The In-N-Out Truck is out there. There's also kettle corn and funnel cake (my favorite, by the way).

Richard Lee and the rest of the chain crew, along with some of the parents and staff there were awesome!

If you haven't been out there, I suggest you check it out, its really cool. If you know of any other great venues to catch a game, please let me know. I'd love to attend.

By the way, Amat knocked off Alemany 36-14. The Lancers finished the nonleague portion of their season 7-0. Next week, they open Serra League play against Loyola.

Way to represent the SGV Amat!!! Keep it going!!

I'm sure a new league, more experience, and a new QB, will make a difference next year.
To anyone who doubts Coach Martin, you're wrong. He's a damn good coach who had to start from scratch this year. Things will be different next season, it will be John Martin's team, not Nick Cuccia's or Manny Saiz's. Hopefully everything will fall into place, and the Brahmas will become an area power once again.

What's with all the Damien hate? I think they are a good team that plays QUALITY opponents.

Well as for Amat, I voted that they would "only" go 7-3. I'm not so sure

now. I have to give kudos (again) to the coaching staff. If you were to look

at the team as a whole and then look at their opponents, I'd think you'd

come away thinking how did they win that game? The offensive line is a

good size, but that's were it ends. The rest of the team is much smaller. I

can only attribute the stellar defense to the speed they possess and the coaching obviously.

If Leon is not your son, who is because I'm curious to see who performs like your perspective on the blog? You seem to be passionate and usually kids play like their parents personalities. Hope and potential..hasn't happen. Can't say I agree with the comments below from the Insider. Still have 3 more games.

Sacked the QB...he fumbled.....Ricky picks it up and runs for a first down.....yep....that about sums up the Walnut fortunes in last nights game.

Now we just have to go out and beat South Hills. Doable...it's doable...

the point that i was trying to make was the that SGV(teams) can not compete and win with the O.C (teams) on a week in week out basis. (with the exception being AMAT) Im not talking about I.E (teams), but I do agree with you tons of talents and not enough quality coaches. The difference between SGV and O.C football is money, because they pretty much have the same kind of players. But the difference is that they (O.C) have a whole hell a lot more elite athletes than us. The main reason for that is because there parents have thousands of dollars to blow on personal trainers, speed trainer, and etc. Lets get one thing straight im not trying to call people around here poor, most family's around here range anywhere from upper middle class to lower middle class. L

I'm so proud of you Warriors. Parents ought to worry more about keeping thier kids healthy and flu-free and let the kids do the football playing, sometimes it's like Texas around here, push em till they break. It's only high school so have fun in spite of the nuts. I love you Garrett, wish everyone had your attitude, good job!

SARep:
First off, I never said that Walnut would win league. I thought we had a great chance to come in second and at the very least make the playoffs. I am very disappointed in Walnut across the board, from the top down, however you want to say it.

Walnut has some good to above average skill players that have been starting for 2, and in some cases, 3 years. Does it show? No. The play calling has been mediocre at best. And those "big time" players haven't stepped up. If Rhodes was as good as they think he is, then he would have carried this team with his legs. But he didn't. Up until last night he had barely over 100 yards rushing through 6 weeks. Now that's a combination of his poor running and maybe not getting in his face enough as a staff and telling him he needs to step up. He had some nice runs last night, but where was that last week?

I am shocked at how poor Walnut has performed. You had a two headed rushing attack with King & Rhodes. Aubrey and some other solid possession receivers and we couldn't do squat. The line never improved. King had 6 yards per rush last week because Rowland knew Walnut had to throw the ball, so they weren't trying to stop the rush. Besides, with the spread offense you have natural holes created from moving out the defense. King did a nice job last week of finding those natural holes. Passing they just stink. When the line can't sustain their blocks for more than 3 seconds...what can you do? The staff does a nice job of moving around Cooper to try and help out, but they still bleed.

Defensively, I know they are on the field a lot, but I knew it was a bad sign when they gave up an average of 21 points to teams that had about 2 wins combined. The secondary is weak as is the front 7. That's not a good combination. I don't know why Coach Peralta was removed as defensive coordinator because Coach DeVera isn't doing anything with the defense. He screams a lot, that's about it. I know he coached at Bishop Amat for awhile, but if he was good, don't you think Hagerty would have kept him?

And don't tell me I am not a true fan or whatever because I am criticizing them. I bought into OShields and the spread offense (great call still). I also bought into 3 years of really bad football because his plan to let the underclassman grow into their positions, so that this year we would be competitive. That didn't happen.

I don't blame this solely on the staff. If I was to place the blame I would say it would be about 40-45% staff and 60-55% players. I say this a lot, but being around Walnut High for the past 20+ years I have seen the players attitudes change. Football is now a joke at the high school and it's really sad to see how much this program has fallen. Last week was a great example of this. You had the #1 & #2 teams in their CIF division playing and there was no one in the stands (like last night) and there was no excitement on Walnut's sidelines. Walnut knew they had to win one of the last two games, but they sure didn't act like it.

Thetruth,

My point is what does that say for Mission Viejo and San Clemente they "play a really different kind of football."

Look I don't like all this talk the Guru gives about the I.E and how good they are and the SGV can't compete. The Guru used La Habra playing close to San Clemente and Tesoro being a PAC5 (last year), but neither team may make the playoffs much less go deep. I went to the South Hills/West Covina game and that team has some huge guys and some speed so the argument that they can't play at that level does not hold water.

The I.E probably has 3 or 4 teams this includes the SBC and RC that would compete in the PAC5 and I don't think they would still make the finals. Individual players, yes, probably more than its fair share, but what about teams. The I.E is like the city section ten years ago a tone of talent, but they have a hard time playing with well coached teams. Two huge counties!

I thought about it and I would still say the same thing....

Don't blame Bishop Amat...Blame everyone on this in the past that has challenged them. I remember 6 years ago when Charter Oak fans started to talk smack about BA football and wanted a game. Well they got it and got smacked 2x. 3 years ago, Los Altos fans were screaming for a BA game because they believed that because they beat Orange Lutheran several years earlier, they would be able to hang with Bishop Amat LOL! Or how about last year's South Hills fans...Superstar QB Cameron Deen was most impressive during a passing league game vs. BA and SO Notre Dame. SH fans were jumping up and down for a game vs. BA. Then SH lost to West Covina! End of that story. And speaking of West Covina, they too wanted a game w/ Bishop Amat. West Covina got all excited over only losing to Mater Dei by 2 TDs a few years back. WC fans wanted the Lancers bad. They got em and have scored only 13 points vs. BA. Diamond Ranch played BA ok last year so the same was going to happen this year right? Nope. Damien and Amat have been playing each other for years and years so they don't count.

Basically, there are two lessons here...One, don't blame Amat for playing SGV schools. And Two, be careful what you wish for because you just might get BA.

Yeah definitely the truth right there. At this point I'm wondering who gets the third place in league, at this point I look at DR and they aren't going anywhere. And Bonita gets them at home. Bonita also has three home games to close out the season which I don't remember when the last time that was.

I look at the stats and read all tree pieces on the game this morning between the Bulletin, Tribune, and LaVerne Online and I must have been watching a different game because I could have sworn the Bearcats ran for the amount of yards the stats say Highley passed for 266 yds. And combined rushing was 122 yds. It looked like the Bearcats pounded the rock rather than pass for the most they have passed all year. Those interceptions hurt...went right to the DB and Safety. Somehow I saw a completely different game on the offensive side of the ball, no idea how that happened.

But back to the league. The Miramonte is one team deep this year sadly, and it is also befitting that it is the defending Southeast Division Champions in the Charter Oak Chargers. They'll get a one seed and possibly the first overall seed in the division and I don't see them getting tested at least until the semi-finals since Santa Fe isn't what they made everyone think they were.

Good Luck to the Chargers the rest of the way.

Bishop Amat Beats Alemany, 36-14, to Remain Undefeated

La Puente Bishop Amat junior tailback Jay Anderson had 29 carries for 145 yards and three touchdowns Friday in the Lancers' 36-14 victory over Mission Hills Alemany.

The victory extended the Lancers' undefeated record to 7-0 and they are 14-2 all-time against the Warriors.

Alemany senior tailback Malcolm Marable, bound for Oregon State, was held to nine carries for 27 yards and one touchdown.

It appeared at first that Marable would be in for a big night.

The Warriors were within striking distance early in the first quarter thanks to a flea flicker that involved senior tight end Kevin Lenik connecting with senior wide receiver Chike Mbanefo on a 25-yard pass at the Lancers' 14-yard line.

Three plays later, Marable ran in for a two-yard touchdown run, concluding a 12-play, 95-yard opening drive for a 7-0 lead with 3:26 remaining in the first quarter.

But the Lancers scored 23 unanswered points in the second quarter en route to a 23-14 halftime lead.

Senior quarterback Jerry McClanahan, who completed 12 of 16 passes for 139 yards, scored on an 11-yard touchdown run. Senior wide receiver Darien Johnson caught a 38-yard touchdown pass on a reverse play from sophomore Rio Ruiz.

Senior defensive linemen Jovanni Marquez and Daniel Kane tackled Warriors junior quarterback Vernon Adams for a safety. And Anderson ran in for a two-yard score.

The Warriors wouldn't go away though. They put together a four-play 48-yard drive that ended in Adams connecting with Sean Haynes for a 28-yard touchdown pass.

Adams went 13 for 24 for 210 yards with one touchdown, but the Warriors remained scoreless in the second half.

Every year it's the same song, kick everyones butt in pre-season, get to league and get your A$$e$ handed to you and then you watch the playoffs from the bleachers.
Baby Blue Nutter, Mustang Sally, Walnut Insider and any other Walnut faithful are no longer allowed to come on this blog and tell us how good you are and how you are going to win league. Here is a suggestion, keep quiet until you actually win something of substance. Games vs Covina, Arroyo etc etc are not of substance.
You got to league, got rolled by Rowland and WC and still have to play the best team in SH. Doesn't look good! You are going to have problems with Nogales.
Take whatever blog comments that come your way and "wear them" because you have not one thing to say as a comeback.
Maybe now your coach will step up in pre-season and play a GOOD team to challenge your "stud" athletes to prepare them for league since all you care about is league.
How does it feel to be done with your season after week 7?

COChargerfan said:

D-Mo...actual score of CO vs. DR was 26-0...both the calls negating the TD's were bogus. I agree that the problem is a very conservative offensive plan and not that CO doesn't have any weapons. Saw same thing last year…seems that the CO coaches are cut out of the Brian Billick/Baltimore Ravens style of let your defense win the games.

For anyone that actually watched the game, other than the opportunities created by CO turnovers or penalties (how about that bogus face mask call), other than one pass play for like 15 yards, DR didn’t do ANYTHING on offense the whole night…am I exaggerating that they did not have more than four or five 1st downs in the entire game? And didn’t DR have their star players…Viramontes, Bonilla, Taylor and Wright? And CO was much, much bigger on both the D and O lines so DR is never going to win the trenches game.

As to missing players for CO, I guess DR fans didn't notice that Washington State bound Brandon Golden didn't play...how could they forget him considering that he owned them in last year's title game? Make no mistake, this was a boring game and CO needs to improve a lot in their offensive attack but the 12-0 score is meaningless because the game was totally dominated by CO’s defense.

The two injured players…one each for DR and CO puts the game into perspective…I hope that the injuries aren’t as serious as they appeared.

I'll be the first to say CO is not overrated. Sounds like the Chargers have limited their two opponents in league to less than a hundred yards of offense. Sound like a game where the score was close but on the field it wasn't close by far.

Fact of the matter is Diamond Ranch isn't the team that it was last year. This is why stats are important so you can compare the performances this season. They are the number one team in the league and is seems disingenuous and being a sore loser when a person says they are overrated just after they got blanked. Like it or not they have put two shut-outs in a row and are likely to shut out all of their league opponents.

Everyone Remember all of that hype around Diamond Ranch this past summer in August when Fred put out his SGV top 32 and the CIF Pre-season polls came out. Fred had them ranked as second and CIF had them at Numero Uno in the Southeast Division.

Alemany's upset bid falls short against Bishop Amat
Daily News
Updated: 10/23/2009 11:37:21 PM PDT

Alemany High of Mission Hills knew it was in for a tough game against Bishop Amat of La Puente, but after one quarter the visiting Warriors were ahead by a touchdown and in position for a possible upset.

It never happened.

After falling behind early, Bishop Amat scored three straight touchdowns and forced a safety to take control on its way to a 36-14 nonleague victory against Alemany.

Bishop Amat's Jay Anderson ran for three touchdowns and had 153 yards on 31 carries as the Lancers (7-0) used a balanced attack.

In addition to Anderson's running, Bishop Amat also got 134 yards on 12 of 16 passing from Jerry McClanahan.

"We were confused on defense and we made a lot of mental mistakes that we have to fix for next week," Alemany defensive back Malcolm Marable said.

The Warriors (4-3) took a 7-0 lead on a 2-yard run by Marable in the first quarter, capping a 12-play, 96-yard drive. Marable managed just 27 yards on 10 carries.

Alemany got another touchdown late in the second quarter on a 28-yard pass from Vernon Adams to Sean Haynes to make it 23-14.

But that was it for the Warriors offensively.

"They weren't doing anything special defensively, they were just doing their jobs and taking away the running lanes," Marable said.

If there is not a transfer and no paper work has been sent to CIF, what do they have to rule on? Again, if HLPUSD policy in regards to enrollment rules have been violated, Los Altos is within their rights to pursue whatever remedy they wish, but this would not come from CIF.

Secondly, if they are freshman that are not playing varsity what is the point? Transfers that are ineligible for varsity competition can still play on lower level teams.

As I said before, there may be a case against actual transfer students who lied on their transfer forms. Beyond that I would be surprised if their is much there from CIF's point of view as they do not consider 9th graders who started at a school as transfers.

Notes on Amat

A couple of thoughts here. I guess that when your on a roll, people start to notice.

Did anyone happen to see that Haggs was getting interview by channel 2 news right after the game? I guess he’s a star now, Ha ha ha.

Anyway, I have to say that this was perhaps the most complete game that Amat has played on the offensive side of the ball this entire year although that last game against St Paul was certainly an improvement. This offense really turned it around in this game and I believe that it showcased their ability to successfully move that ball without relying solely on the run game.

A couple of thought here and the first one is that it seemed to me that they came right after what I perceive to be our Achilles heal, and that is in our pass defense. They must have watched tape form that Notre Dame game last year because the came out firing on all cylinders. Still it was that same defense that ended up carrying the day because when they had their opportunities, our defense came through and prevented them form getting anywhere.

Big plays by Rio to Johnson there, and I for one am glad that they were able to pull that one off if only because the last time they tried that flea flicker, it failed miserably.

Also, did anyone notice that number 9 for their team decided to drop the ball rather than get slaughtered out there in the open field towards the end of the game? The ball was right in his hands but he must have heard footsteps from one of out defenders or he must have seen Davis Cazares coming at him from out of the corner of his eye because he didn’t catch that ball.

My opinion here but I have to say that the refs had a very bad game this evening. Usually most people who moan and groan about bad calls do so because their teams are the ones who end up on the wrong side of the calls, but this time I believe that it was Alemany who got hit with allot of bad calls from the zebras. To tell you the truth, it probably cost them more than a few points tonight because many of those calls took away a great deal of their momentum.

Oh, BTW, just got word that Loyola lost to St Francis tonight. Yikes !!

Boy this Serra league is gonna really be up for grabs this year because from what I understand, Notre Dame should have also lost their game against St Francis as well last week.

Although Amat looked good in the past, I was concerned with the offense. I'm glad to hear that the offense finally had a break out game. Sounds like they changed their strategy a bit by pitching to the outside. Alemany must have been stacking the box.

They played tonight with munchkins and we barely beat them? We better get our s#!t together. Injuries or no injuries we need to play better than that. I don't care what kind of emotional speech the DR coach gives there is no way we should play a game that close. Players better start playing as a team or our season is going to be done early! We better start finding some heart because tonight DR had a bigger one. Lets go CO!

On my way to see Bishop Amat beat up on Alemany when I get a call that my son went 3-1 in his first Varsity Debate Tournament so I wanted to be close to home and went to see Damien vs Glendora instead...what a treat!

Guillen laid to rest ANY controversy about a QB switch...that was really ridiculous...the kid came up big again. Talked to his Dad on the way in and told him he son would be fine...guy really understands what it takes to be a QB's dad. Big Props to the Guillen Family.

Sat with some Damien old timers and had a blast. Also saw former coach Morrison surrounded by his former players a couple of rows down. You know it's ok if Gano is successful and you guys actually clap after sacks, TDs, big runs ect, lol.

Well like I said before this year's team was waiting for their signature win to usher in the Gano Era...it's official...the Gano Era is on line! lol

The team played well...steady, resilent and composed. Every Damien player played well. The team is finally understanding their individual roles and realize it's time to focus on one play at a time.

The most remarkable thing abut Gano and his staff is their ability to handle egos, situations and team dynamics. Nothing seems to faze them and they are extremely approachable to parents, players, fans and just about anyone. Truely a perfect fit for the Spartans and Gano and his staff.

Here's a perfect example...last Wed. I thought they had an average practice coming off the CH game ...as teh team ran their sprints Gano decides to kick the ball to Tre Hale...he sets up under the ball, makes a perfect catch ( players go crazy) and then he starts haulin butt towards the endzone...several players still celebrating start to jump on Tre and Tre keep right on going...knocks 3 or 4 players to the ground leaps into the endzone.....everyone was laughing , hooping and hollering...and I thought..."these guys are incredible"

Tonight at the game his daughter stopped by on the way up the stands and gave me a hug...then I met Mrs. Gano and said to her.."So you're the All American Softball player are you?" She laughed , shook my hand and wished me well...as she walked away I told her..."Keep your husband here...he's perfect for us!"

Damien will continue to get better, the atmosphere at Damien has NEVER been better and teh players are working hard, playing hard and having fun...what could be better?

Soon Sparta soon...JV won big and the Freshmen won down the stretch 7-6...for a clean sweep..

Feels good to see Damien as I envisioned it could be so many years ago. Long Live Sparta!!!

From what I heard from my son, C.O. plagued with injuries on the offensive line and supposedly their quarterback suffered an injury too not to mention their best receiver wasn't in for two quarters and they lost their tight end who was also playing receiver for them too.

Defensively, C.O. played well and Charter Oak moved the ball up and down the field the entire night until penalties proved costly on at least four series. They had the ball in the red zone almost every series but had to settle for field goals and missed a few too.

Personally, I'm happy C.O. played a game like that now instead of in the playoffs. Get healthy C.O. and D.R. hopefully we do see you again in the playoffs. You have a buy week coming in a few weeks and really is at the perfect time.

Please doubt the Chargers and convince yourselves they won't be there at the end of the season. Something tells me they'll be just fine..!

Congrats to Damien and Ganesha...

Ganesha final score was 16-10... Northview just couldn't get it going on offense. Ganesha played so well on both sides. For the most part, they moved the ball with ease and had a great rushing game moving the ball consistently all night. Defense played well and swarmed to the ball. What a turn of events for Ganesha whose obviously been the butt of most jokes for well over a decade. Northview, on the other hand, is the 2-time defending league champ. Game ball? Goes to the Ganesha O-line.. Played inspired football all night...

Glendora obviously wasn't sharp tonight. O-line still a work in progress. Saw it last week against Diamond Bar though they played probably the best they have all year, a lot of it was Andre Holmes making plays and punishing defenders. Can't imagine how they are going to recover to defend this league championship if Holmes is out this year. Holmes being out this game had so much to do with the Damien victory though. He is the best Tartan offensive and defensive player... Really is the straw that stirs the drink..

No special teams magic tonight, it was all offense. They looked their strongest in this game that they've looked all year. Not many running plays between the tackles except the three stack. A lot of pitches to the outside and a great passing night for JMac. Spread out the field and it opened up the offense.

Defense did a fantastic job of shutting down Alemany. Other than their opening drive for a score, they were held in check all night even though they put up close to or over 300 yards in offense. Come to think of it, St. Bonnie put up big stats too and still came up short.

This team is getting stronger with every game, no doubt about it. Great job by the staff.

Oh GUUUUUUUURRRRRRRUUUUUUUUU!!!!! Coach of the Year? At this rate, you'd better make the trophy say Coach of the Decade.

BTW, it was homecoming with a big alumni crowd that went away totally impressed.

I haven't been to an Amat game this year, although I've read a lot of the hype surrounding this team. Seeing definitely is believing. I used to watch Amat regularly during the 90s and was amazed at how disciplined those teams were. Even after that nationally ranked 1994 team, Amat still won CIF despite losing many seniors and all americans. They lose seniors, they rebuild with no names who become house hold signatures by the end of the season. That was the 90s. Then 2000s came and Amat no longer looked like those 90s teams. Assignments were missed, player weren't properly tackling, etc, etc. Same "A" on the helmet, but definitely not the same heart. I believe the talent has always been there at Amat, but the coaching hasn't. This current staff is unbelievable. You can tell these guys know how to plan and break down game film. I was watching Coach Mccutcheon call plays to his defense, and was amazed of how a former NFL player is teaching these young men how to play and read defenses. A lot of coaches learn from playing a little high school ball, and some college, but to have someone mentor you from the NFL is priceless and it shows by how Amat plays defense. Point is this, Amat has regained that swagger. Tonight the offense was as exciting as the teams of the 90s. The defense stellar. Teams are recognizing the reawakening of this sleeping giant. I definitely have. Keep it going Amat, I'm a believer.

I'm so happy to get out of there with a win. Hey LA Fan, not so fast there next year you guys come up to La Verne. First half was great but only getting two field goals instead of two touchdowns hurt. Props to the defense but LA made the adjustments in the second half. Two INTs and the fumble on the pitch did not help. Defense made the stops in the second half and the offense got the go ahead touchdown.

Good win here and three home games to end the season. It's looking good for the Bearcats. But I wish Pendleton was ready so the Bearcats could get Highley back playing both ways. Found out Casey Horine is out for the season along with KC Huth and Kyle Moderow. Having seven guys out and looks like we lost another doesn't help hopefully we get some back this week.

LA doesn't look nearly as big a squad in numbers and definitely didn't have the size I remember.

Let me example it again. Effective '09 Los Altos is no longer open enrollment. That means all new students must live in their area. Basically from Hacienda blvd to the Hills and from Valley to skyline. They are no longer excepting choice students from other area. The Principal McRenolds made this move to curve the violence. Per CIF if you are not a open enrollment school then the same requirements applied to the athletics.

What LA is currently doing is not allowing any NEW students from out of their area to transfer in. If the student is a football, baseball, or softball player then the school will make an exception and allow the student to transfer from out of the area. Per CIF this is a clear violation.

The two point conversion was intercepted in the end zone. Diamond Ranch showed up with half the team. I heard about 10 DR starters were out with the flu and other injuries. Seemed to be half the DR players in the game were 2nd stringers. With all the hype that has been going on the last 6 weeks about how good Charter Oak is, this game was a bust. CO vs. D'Ranch was pretty boring ball control game marred by early turnovers on both sides. CO had two obvious touchdowns called back...one when the refs ruled the kid was down and the other that the receiver stepped out of bounds…the referee made the call from 50 yards away even though the two refs near the play both signaled TD...embarrassing. Should have been 26-0. Maddest I've ever seen the CO coaches. I doubt that D’Ranch had 100 yards of offense but CO was not really that much better. Still, a win is a win.

I didn't mean to imply that CIF has no interest in correct information, of course CIF expects correct information if transfer paper work is turned in to them. I just think that interest is irrelveant to many of the students in question.

Th ereality is (and I think you agree),no transfer paper work would be turned in for any 9th graders. It is up to Los Altos to decide whether those transfers will stand. If Los Altos says these kids can go there and they have accepted them CIF is not going to force Los Altos to hold itself to higher standard then then the CIF rules demand. This is an issue for the LPUSD board to decide.

I suppose it is possible there could be an issue with the 10th grade transfers as they did have to supply an adress even if they were not claiming a change of residence for the transfer. I really don't know what CIF's position would be since it was not relevant to the students eligibility. Bu the more I think about it, I could see them throwing the book at the student in this situation to show that this type of thing will not be tolerated.

CONCERNED TARTAN.

Let me be clear...Damien is not weak at any level. They are especially strong at the lower levels and will be very good next year if our QB situation gets handled right...which I have confidence we will.

This year's team is also strong but have yet to put together a game that signals in the Gano Era right.

When your signature games are three close games to RC, BA and CO that tells you you're capable of great things but when you lose as bad as you can to SJB and CH it also says something about your senior leadership...that's not being critical just honest as a former player who knows the difference between running sprints full bore and having your studs run sprints like they own the place.

Sprints set the tone for any team and builds character, unity and solidarity....any old school players disagree? Players know when other players are dogging it and half stepping...it's on the team to demand leadership or replace it...simple as that!

How about "gassers" timed 220's and running 40 yard sprints until someone puked because some one pulled up 3 yards too early.

Damien will be stronger next year as long as Gano and Co. stay and get to step on some toes to get Damien up to speed.

Hope for a good game and no injuries..Tartans...we're going to miss you!!!

You're usually right on with the info , but you might be overstating CIF's "lack of concern" over addresses provided. The general gist of your statement is true, however in 202 it says:

ACCURATE INFORMATION
A. The CIF requires that all information provided in regard to any aspect of the eligibility of a student must be true,
correct, accurate and complete.
B. Student Eligibility – Penalty for Provision of False or Fraudulent Information
(1) If it is discovered that any parent, guardian, caregiver or student has provided false information in regards
to any aspect of eligibility status on behalf of a student, that student is subject to immediate ineligibility for
CIF competition at any level in any sport for a period of up to 24 calendar months from the date the
determination was made that false information was provided.
(Revised October 2001 Federated Council)

(2) If it is discovered that persons associated with the student or the school (coach, teachers, parents, friends,
etc.) provided false information in order to fraudulently gain favorable eligibility status for a student, that
student is subject to immediate ineligibility for competition at any Section member school at any level in any
sport for a period of up to 24 calendar months from the determination that false information was provided
whether the student was aware of the fraudulent information or not.
(Revised October 2001 Federated Council)

Pretty clear that they do care a bit.

I am pretty sure either that parent is confused or is wishing the rules are something they are not.

CIF cares about change of address for transfers after the summer of your 9th grade year. CIF has no influence over and does not care why a school accepts a student (assuming no undue influence occurred).

For CIF's purposes, if the student was accepted by Los Altos they are eligible. If they lied to get into Los Altos to avoid Los Altos' acceptance standards, then it is up to the school to take whatever action they deem appropriate. But as long as Los Altos lets them stay, CIF does not care. They stopped worrying about where freshman enroll and school boundaries for inital eligibility when many districts went to the open enrollment model.

The same applies if the sophomore transferred before the start of the school year. If Los Altos did not follow their own procedures, that is up to them to rectify. From CIF's perspective the young man is enrolled and transferred legally by their standards so there is nothing for them to do.

As always, schools can enforce a higher standard than CIF if they so choose.

I actually think the move is a positive one for Glendora. They get to play some good teams year and year out and the travel thing is being overblown. Amat has to travel Sherman Oaks, Downtown L.A. (If you think La Puente is hood take a stroll in the neighborhood surrounding Loyola), and Encino. Thats a solid hour to each school and that's not even taking traffic into consideration.

La busted,

School coaches were aware of the issue. They are pissed at mcrenolds for changing enrllment status. They rolled the dice and now it looks like the kids are the ones that are going to get screwed.

Don't count Damien out just yet..we might be struggling this season but I'm sure next year and the following we will be much improved! Our JV is looking pretty damn good! This group has been strong since their freshmen year! There has been poor coaching that has reflected some of our games but in all they are a strong group! Lots of speed in offense and our defense pretty strong! Parents just need to be patient a bit longer. Rumors have started that 1 or 2 of our JV offensive starters you know who you are.....(real fast kid).....might be leaving Damien to go to their home school....All I have to say is HOLD ON things will change. Coach Gano and his staff are a lot more experienced than your JV coach. Look...I'm a father of a JV player that only gets on the field for the LAST 2 - 3 mins of the game but I feel confident that next year things will change for my son and for all those other players that for some reason are invisible in JV.

Good Luck Spartans!!

Settle down,

Damiens glory days? When exactly was that? In '06 they went undefeated in league finshed 8-2 overall (glory days?), made it to the 2nd round and got throttled by Temescal Cyn 42-14?? They had one good year '06, sqeaked into the playoffs in '05 and '07 (look it up) and have been dropping turds ever since Sept of '08. Lets not get crazy calling that the glory days. You sound like Glendorans now.

Tough Love Time said:

Maybe it's time to rethink the most important decision of this season...one that will ultimately cost us all a season with so much promise. Leadership is learned at home and honed in the real world. Quitters never win and winners never quit...so what happens to doggers? We shall see tonight as we discover whether or not the switch is turned ON or OFF....I've never seen a team so blind to the problem that ails them. Time for some tough love and some big time decisions. Let's hope everyone realizes that sooner or later the truth will set you free!

A parent called up and asked about using a false address on his form if that was a CIF violation. CIF said no, because like you said he had his one free move after his freshmen year. But CIF also said that if the school is closed enrollment then they can't take any athletic out of area including this sophomore. So you may want to call CIF and get that clarified. LA football has some very important decisions to make about tonight’s game with Bonita. If they play this kid and win you know Bonita is going to be calling CIF.

Once again Los Altos is closed enrollment, which means all new students have to be living in LA's area. There is no sophomore or freshmen exception to that rule per CIF.

Please call CIF talk to them.

Like I said this goes much deeper than the football program, we are talking about all the sports programs within LA. LA basically decided that closed enrollment applied to the non-student athletics only, which is a CIF violation.

Good Luck Tonight................

I hate to say it, but Gano is a complete and total bust. All this hype for nothing. It will be quite a while till Damien has it's glory days again like when Mark Mendrun was playing.

Glendora was the first school to propose proposal A but they had one change. Damien in the Baseline and Glendora in the Sierra. Damien didnt want to be put in that league for the same reason Glendora didnt. In the end the other voting schools ultimately chose to flip that part of the proposal.

kh - If it's basketball you want, well basketball you will get, because Rancho, Los Osos, Etiwanda and the other schools play some pretty decent roundball out in the I.E.
