Saturday Morning Quarterback: RIO NICE! Bishop Amat wins in OT, 27-24; Glendora shocks Chino Hills; West Covina knocks off No. 1 Rowland

Friday's results
Bishop Amat 27, Loyola 24 -- Cubs QB Jerry Neuheisel completed 20-of-24 for 256 yards and RB Jared Baker rushed for 109 yards, but the Lancers scored on two trick plays in the first half to make it 14-14, then won it in overtime when Jerry McClanahan floated a 14-yard TD pass sophomore to Rio Ruiz to win it. Another amazing win as they rallied in the final four minutes to tie it in regulation on Jay Anderson's one-yard touchdown with 56 seconds left. Ruiz also threw a touchdown pass to McClanhan with seconds left in the half. The Lancers are now 8-0
San Dimas 28, Pomona 0 -- That's three straight shutouts for the Saints defense. Lets just get to the finale and Baldwin Park already.
Glendora 24, Chino Hills 23 -- Amazing isn't it. Not only is Mark Pasquarella dancing on the busride home, but so is Damien coach Greg Gano, whose Spartans are in the drivers seat.
West Covina 32, Rowland 10 -- You knew at some point the Radiers were going to miss quarterback Michael Ball. The Bulldogs were just too physical and it showed.
Diamond Ranch 36, Bonita 29 -- The Panthers win a shootout in the battle for second in the Miramonte. But don't expect another miracle run to the title game.
Damien 17, Ayala 7 -- This is why we have the Spartans ranked so high, because when you play as many tough teams like they have, it was only a matter of time before they cracked through. A share of the Sierra League title is almost a formality now.
Charter Oak 41, Wilson 0 -- That's three straight Miramonte league shutouts for the Chargers, who can goose the league in the finale against Los Altos in a couple weeks.
South Hills 29, Los Altos 7 -- What once was a great non-league rivalry turned into another easy win for the Huskies.
Azusa 47, Duarte 6 -- The Aztecs a win a way from going undefeated in league for the second straight year.
Arroyo 45, El Monte 0 -- They shouldn't be tested again until the Mid-Valley playoffs.
Rosemead 31, South El Monte 28 -- The Panthers gave up the lead with 55 seconds left, then won it with eight seconds left.
Gladstone 38, Workman 0 -- You knew the Lobos not having Bradford would be tough, but not this tough.
Sierra Vista 19, Bassett 0 -- The Dons all but clinch a playoff berth.
Walnut 55, Nogales 17 -- The Mustangs bounced back after two straight losses. Now they have to beat South Hills next week to earn a playoff spot.
Covina 47, Ganesha 0 -- The Colts bounce back in a big way. It's looking more and more like they will be No. 3 from the VVL.
Gabrielino 12, Mountain View 7 -- The Eagles remain in the hung for a playoff spot.

Its' a long drive. In fact, the last time we played there (under the Verti years) we had the lowest turn out of any game we had played in in perhaps the last 5 years or so.
Traffic can be rutal but what makes it even tougher is the fact that most folks get off of work at about 5 and then have to commute to thier home before they even think about dinner, and then the drive up there to Encino.
I have always been a big fan of playing far away games like these on saturdays and have always felt that by doing so, we could include teams like St Bonnie and Oaks Christian in the Serra league for football (only).
Joe Amat, much of what you said is true especially that the Serra is a tougher league than either the Miramonte or San Antonio but there are some additional factors worth mentioning that may have a significant effect on how an individual kid performs. First and foremost is that football is a team sport and positions like quarterback and running back are greatly affected by their supporting cast…if a team has a really bad O-line does it really matter what league a running back is playing in? Or, if a team has really good line an average back will look better than he really is, in fact, the kid with the bad line may be light years better than the kid with the good line although their statistics will reflect otherwise. And, some kids play while others sit because of the system that a coach runs…a smaller quicker back like Crespo isn’t going to do as well as a bigger kid like Wagner while running inside the tackles. In some years teams may be loaded at a certain position so a coach has to make a decision on a starter who often is the kid that fits the system, which doesn’t mean that the other kids aren’t good players. And, what a kid does as a senior as opposed to a sophomore or junior often is a function of the kid’s level of physical maturity…some kids are full grown as freshmen and others don’t develop until their senior years…and others not until college…which is why a lot of coaches over the years are still scratching their heads trying to figure out why they didn’t play a kid more and let him get away. In the end, a coach has to pick one kid as the starter and history proves that sometimes they pick wrong.
Good luck at Crespi...CO has a bye and I'm pondering attending but going to/from Encino on Friday nights is just awful.
Dum3three, or Wrongman;
My, my such LANGUAGE! JACKASS. look who's calling the kettle black. I mean you were the one that was running your mouth on how WRONGMAN, was going to surely going to win us by TWO TOUCHDOWNS. And now your a little upset because I call you out on your prediction! Here you were trying to convince Fred, on why he was predicting Gladstone to win over WRONGMAN and he was right. What's funny is your stating that several players got injured in the game, and if no for that, the game would have been much closer. Let me remind you, it's called hitting and that's part of football. 3, the boat is sinking quick, so grab a life jacket and hit a wall of reality. Wrongman better hope they get over Duarte , because of they don't, they're through!
So much for your prediction on winning the league, and at most WRONGMANS coming in at 4th place in the LEAGUE!
Congratulations to the Men in Blue on their win on Friday. I also must congratulate the Cubs on an excellent game plan . They shut down DJ and JA and keyed on them all night. What they didn't expect was for Ruiz and Cazares to step up big time. Those two both played a great game . They should both have gotten game balls for their effort. That is the sign of a good team when a couple of your weapons get shut down someone else steps up to the challenge. Great job Men. Now it is on to Crespi. Practice hard this week and stay focused on the prize.
rgd2626,
The blog monster ate a response yesterday that may have preempted a couple these next posts.
My response was to :"SGV football fan" who wrote, "Players who do NOT start at Amat go elsewhere to play. Not true."
I was merely providing some of the most recent, high-profile examples of those that have. In NO way was I saying Amat should get "credit" for what those kids achieved elsewhere, (actually just the opposite), although I guess what you do during you first three years has something to do with how you perform your senior year.
These kids all had lessor roles at Amat and went on to greater successes elsewhere. That's just a cold-hard fact. Maybe it was poor coaching, not getting the opportunity, or maybe it was the competition they faced. Who knows.
I'm sure you remember the Wilson kids and that final at Mt Sac all too well. That was a time when Amat was coming off two consecutive appearances in teh CIF Final, winning one. Those kids would have had minor roles at Amat - yet significant ones for a CIF Champion. Castaneda was going to be behind Robles at Amat who was annointed the "heir apparent" one way or another whether everyone agreed or not. Castaneda had a great time at Los Altos after having NO shot at Amat. Crespo was NEVER going to beat out Wagner, McBride or Wells yet was CO's leading rusher as a junior (Boz - if he was overhyped AND your leading rusher .... well - you do the math). Kevin Bonilla flourishes at Chino Hills after leaving, and he might have even played RB over Crespo). Right or wrong, McBride was a 3rd option behind Wagner and Wells and I've said before - looked like the 2nd coming of Eric Bieniemy in the early part of Los Altos' schedule before his injury. Tamayo was behind Iglesias, Lenhart and if push came to shove - Wells... so he went from 4th string to starter at LA and Tillis was behind hime. I remember hearing about him getting snaps recovering a fumble (and maybe even an Int) in the Rosemead game - before the injuries. Maybe he lost time after that, but he was playing early. Or maybe that was just during mop-up time. Wells was a good player at Amat and would have had a good season at Amat - but would not have racked up those numbers in the Serra league - and he was like Marcus Allen at South Hills in the San Antonio League.
Those are just things that happened. You saw them up close and personal. As a coach, what do you really see as the reason why they can move from lessor roles at Amat to stars in the Miramonte and San Antonio Leagues... with good teams. I respect your opinion... and no need to be kind - I can take it!:?)
... and SGV football fan,
Again - Let's not let those facts get in the way with what you might feel about those "down years" you talk about. We've already established ad nauseum that even in the last five years, which included a couple of the worst years in Amat history, that Amat still has more players on D1 rosters than any of your other "consistent" schools. So the theory that you "... can stay "home" and get a ride..." is not entirely accurate. Statistically speaking. You "can", but...
Your statement may have been more true and I would have understood where you were coming form had you not included, " It isnt always about CIF titles." I'm now not sure what you meant about that - because really, that's what separates the programs you mention.
This decade, when you say Amat hasn't "won" anything what are you referring to if not titles? They've still never finished below 3rd in the toughest league in the nation. In most leagues that's a playoff spot and once you're into the playoffs all of a sudden you're a little better. The first year of our "non-playoff string" getting eliminated on a coin flip - we beat Mater Dei and the eventual Champion Loyola plus ran the table vs the SGV. Didn't win "anything" or just didn't win the big one?
And in a 4 team league - 3rd place you may be out. South Hills has had a 5 and 5 season , but they go 3-1 in their league because they can face Walnut and Nogales (each 2-8) so all of a sudden they have a good season? Amat goes 5-5 in Verti's first year and they better show improvement or else. CO has two 8-4 seasons which sounds great - and those are the two years Amat beats them up pretty good.
Consistent? Or a function of who you play? Feelings or facts? More on the Sunday Tribbin thread.
SGV football fan,
Let's get one thing straight, Amat will NEVER have to use CO or South Hills as a model of anything. It's the other way around you bum! Furthermore, Amat doesn't have to prove anything to you or anything else. The proof is in the pudding. Amat is playing well and the PROGRAM is back on track. YOU BUM!
Joe Amat,
What you mentioned is true. Lets also remember that these kids wanted to win, and the truth is from 1996-2008 Amat wasn't that good minus a year or two. ALSO your Not revealing everything. Back in the day kids WENT to AMAT to get noticed, and hopefully a "ride" to college. Now they feel like they can stay "home" and get a ride. The names you mentioned that transfered away from AMAT is one thing, but what would AMAT be with kids from their area only? ( Is Mater Dei, and Ranch Santa Margarita down this year becasue they have no talent OR becasue kids want to attent their own school in thier own neighborhood?) Same with Loyola, and Crespi. Remember when Alemany was god Awful? Also we can not forget Kory Minor lived across the street, from Damien, Or Stephon Pace came from Altedena area, or even one of your coaches McCutcheon coming in from Diamond Bar, as well as Derek Brown. The list goes on and on. Listen my daughter graduated from Amat the year before Parades left for Riverside, so I remember all the good days as well as the bad. ALL I am saying is that one 8-0 start does NOT mean the Lancers are back. They need to be consistant like Chater Oak, and South Hills to make me think otherwise. It isnt always about CIF titles. Remember when it was THOSE schools trying to do what AMAT did. Now that there conssitant, everyone thinks that their only good becasue of Amat regects.
joeamat,
crespo never won a cif ring at co and was way overhyped. he now plays for a winless ulv team. aaron, bonita is hooorrrriiiibbbllleee this year so please stop trying to put spin on it everyday its getting tired already.
no ones hidding ...jackass...its was a bad game ill admit..but you have 5 turnovers and lose your 2 best players during the game..it was 14-0 going into the 4th..then silva and bradford both got hurt and came out in the late 3rd. Then the team fell apart. So ya ill chalk that lose up to injuries..You played a good game ill give credit. But well be fine..well see who does better in the playoffs..but until then in joy the win jackass...
terd up,
I love it! Everytime you say we will lose, WE WIN!!! You are 0-8, suck wad!!!
ON BLUE!!!
Workman? DUBB3THREE??? HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO come out , come out, where ever you are! Word to the wise, don't run your mouth until after the game IS OVER. Because then you just disappear like DUBB, AND LOOKING DUM3THREE! Thanks for the inspiration.
GLADSTONE GLADIATORS!
Joe Amat
wow a minute, your not actually giving yourselves credit for the way those players played after they left Amat.Your getting a little off base there. And if your gonna make statements about other teams players make sure they are correct,im not sure where you get your facts because i know you guys very rarely go watch other local schools, because Tillis was not even a one-way player never mind a two-way.He only played after all those injurys that year and even then he didnt play much.
After saying that, congrats on the season so far.
And we both know, they have to keep it up, and it looks like they will. It really is good to see you guys back playing good again, and consistant.
Montview Fan, get ready for school tomorrow and don't be hiding behind your mothers skirt. BE PROUD TO BE A duarte fan. See you in a couple of YEARS... AzusA.
WARRIOR4LIFE, WHY DON'T YOUR CLICK YOUR HEELS 3X'S REAL HARD AND SEE IF YOU GET YOUR WISH...
WE WON'T LOSE... BY THWE WAY, EARN IT...
good job montview yea azusa gonna take and good job on that but come on of course azusa looked good. look who they played against. you espect them to blow out duarte they dont even have a good teeam to compete at all so dont get all happy over that win Azusa pride. And workmen is done cause that bradford guy carrys the whole team. But wait a couple year duarte will comeback.
sfhs89,
No harm done. Touchy subject. A few years back the whole "Raider Nation" element slithered into some weak cracks in the Amat Culture and it's taken a while and some leadership to start to squelched that.
No offense taken... but we'd much prefer the old "Amat Family" to be gracious hosts than to have visitors have to deal with "Amat Nation". It's still a work in progress.
Alright - Amat Family!!! Sorry that I labeled you all as "Amat Nation" (we don't play Amat in anything every year, so I didn't know).
Still - the common thread we have is beating Loyola!
SGV football fan,
Let's not let those get in the way with what you might feel. Not that Amat's a farm system for the SGV, but some of what Unreal said is backed up by facts.
Here's a few tidbits for you to chew on.. Since Amat's last CIF championship Wilson (HH) has won a CIF title with their 3 best players being Amat transfers. and a Head Coach, Tom Caines, that was a former Amat assistant. Look it up. Los Altos had a couple pretty good years and a Miramonte Co-Championship with Matt Castaneda at QB - an Amat transfer because he was a backup to Daniel Robles. Johnny Crespo left and was a significant part of a CIF title at CO and their leading rusher as a junior - after not getting the run dad wanted at Amat.
Bryce McBride was a backup at Amat behind Marcus Wagner and averaged *196 yds/game* at Los Altos vs the teams they play - until he got injured . That same year Amats 3rd/4th string QB, Junior Tamayo became the starter under center for the Conqs and Amat's 4th/5th string guy who was getting no time at Amat, Blake Tillis became a 2-way contributor for LA. Dorian Wells was one of Amats better players - but just another guy in the Pac5 and yet was the SGV Player of the Year against South Hills competition.
I'm sure there are more that I haven't mentioned for various reasons, (like Brandon Sermons who appeared for Diamond Ranch in a CIF final and we know about Thropay leaving at a time when he may have been the 3rd string QB at Amat... although it hasn't quite worked out for him at CO yet either)
So I guess, Unreal knew a little about football and wasn't just writing to hear himself talk. There are some of those facts you just can't escape to back up his statements.
First all I would like to say how impress I was with the way AZUSA played last night! Their DEFENSE is good and there Linebackers are quick to the ball, also Chavez, Wow you're becoming a solid defensive player and those receivers better watch out! That score last night could have been in the sixties, but Coach Scherf isn't that type of Coach to run up the score, and his 2nd and 3rd stringers were playing after the first half. I have to say as a fan, that it was real nice to see AZUSA win on Duarte's field! I can remember three years ago when SCHUSTER, was the coach and those fans were name calling and showing no respect at all! I don't remember the last time when AZUSA has beat them on their FIELD!
I don't want to hear how the Montview is weak anymore, because that's far from the truth now! AZUSA is not a Big Team, but they're fast and are well coached. I've been watching football for a quiet sometime now, and your not going to tell me, we don't play anybody, because the teams we're playing, were winning. Coach Scherf, you have brought back the PRIDE back in the City of AZUSA!
Let's also NOTE, that AZUSA claimed their MONTVIEW LEAGUE TITLE, last night and the first team in the SGV to say that! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE AZUSA AZTECS AND THE COACHING STAFF! (BACK TO BACK LEAGUE CHAMPS!)
2009,2010! CHAMPIONS! SEE YOU IN THE PLAYOFFS!
AZTEC PRIDE!
What Unreal says is actually a joke. Players who do NOT start at Amat go elsewhere to play. Not true. Sure Amat is 8-0 and it makes the SGV look even better, but lets not forget that since Amat's LAST CIF championship, the Valley has had at least 13, with SH, LA, and CO winning 4 each, plus WC. The reason? kids didnt need to go to Amat to win, and they stayed in their OWN backyard, and helped their OWN schools win titles.
Either Unreal is just talking to hear himself talk, or he really knows nothing about football.
I am happy for AMAT, but lets see how they do against Servite, Centennial, Edison, Redlands East Valley. If they go 14-0 then they have RETURNED to the promised land. Until then tehy are just one of close to a dozen teams with a 8-0 record.
Tim
amat people are stuck up. Crespi 31 Amat 7 amat fans suck. werd up
U need amat on this blog.
When amat plays people listen, watch, and read. We represent the sgv.
We also provide talent for other sgv teams when players who may not start at amat decide to go elsewhere.
Make sure u know what ur asking for when u ask us to leave the blog.
Humble for once ! - First, I can guarantee that is not even an Amat guy, just an observer and he can come back on and say that. Second, were you sticking up for Amat when they were down and everyone was piling on? There were FAR more pepople on here from CO, SH, LA, and DR (even Covina, NV, and SD) spouting off about how good they were because of their record compared to Amat's. So people that understand Amat are supposed to be quiet then (because they suck and are living in the past) and then they are supposed to be quiet now because they overcame that and proved everyone wrong. Give me a break.
Looks like Amat is for real. I can't understand why all the haters can't just appreciate good football. Wouldn't be great to see one of our SGV teams compete for the State Championship? Let's give them credit. It was just a short 2 years ago that Amat was kind of the joke of the area. Big reputation, no performance on the field. New coach, new attitude has equalled performance on the field. I'm not at all an Amat guy, but I am an SGV guy so I'm pulling for them to go all the way. All I can say to them is don't start smellin yourself. Stay focused and keep winning.
SGV430 Ouut!
Hook, Line and Sinker
You mention it's a tired act. I can sometimes understand why other bloggers feel the way they do about Amat. We have to come on here and read just how great you are. That to them can be tiresome as well.
Yes we all know how good you guys are, yes your 8-0 and you have studs for football players. Your team and it's performance is speaking for it's self. We really dont need to be reminded by people like you. Maybe you should act like Amat has been there before.
Someone had mentioned about Amat having their own blog? I vote for that, then you can all go on and jump up and down and beat your chest.
Hey Montview Race,
I'm not stupid, there's no doubt Gladstone's a good team...I have noting but respect for their coacing staff but Warriors can't look passed Sierra Vista (this weeks game). If we play up to our potentual we should take care of them (SV) no problem and as much as I hate Workman...I'm hoping they upset Azusa...then the Gladstone - LP game will really mean something! Oh, One more thing...I think we still have a chance at a piece of the Montview League title. We'll see what happens in these next two weeks...keep your eyes on the scoreboard my friend!
http://www.sportspower.com/football/teams/high-school/football/california/bishop-amat-lancers/1009/schedule/november-6-2009/75965
Werd up you need to shut up. Obviously your a kid on the blog tootin the husky horn. Stop making juvenile comments about amat and other teams. Instead stop making all of SH look bad. Boy Judy would wring your little neck if you weren't
hiding behind a user name. And good luck to all stay healthy.
Congratulations to San Dimas Saints for another solid win.
Great defensive job. Steady offense. Good special teams. Great kicker.
Go Saints!
I'm torn here....are characters ike werd up, anonymous and others the same person? every year "they" come on here and start with the nonsense and then somewhere down the road...about half way thru their "crow sandwich" they declare.."all you Amat bloggers have turned me into "ANTI AMAT blogger"....every year the reasons are slightly different but similarly the same...its a tired act!
Yet one Amat bloggers fall for every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
First it was:
1) Amat = has beens
2) Amat = living on past laurels
3) Amat = low life boozers
4) Amat = Amat "Nation"
5) Amat = Co & SH's bytch
6) Amat = Recruiting
7) Amat = lower level division baseball
8) Amat = 4-7
9) Amat = just wait for Olu, Crespi, St. Bonnie's , ect ect..."they'll humble you
10) Amat = 7-3 miss the playoffs
11) Amat = first round bust
12) Amat = second round bust
13) Amat = no rings means season is worthles
You get the picture Lancers...8-0!!!!
Way would you respond to anything an idiot said????
Great ...would be an insult to what the Lancers have accomplished in less than two years...so why get sucked in?
The best thing a Lancer blogger can do is ignore the ignorant and wish the boys well and welcome anyone who "thinks" you guys are posers to come see a game in person....
"SEEING IS BELIEVING!!!!"
Nerdie boy I am shaking now. Are you mad because Amat threw a wrench in your plan and now you have to change your 7-1 poster to 8-0.Oh I know the problem you can't spell 8 . I can see your sign now, ate and oh, you are such an idiot. Learn to use the correct words and spelling before you write again you uneducated moron.
WHY DONT YOU ALL GO CHONK YOURSELVES, CHONK UP!
Kinda wanted to root 4 bishop (know u don't like this reference) but bishop bloggers have turned me into anti amat. GO whoever bishop plays next.
Good Job Amat you guys can play some football and show it by your undefeated record. Next week you will beat Crespi but not sure about Notre Dame they are a tough team with talented players. You will make the playoffs and though you have a great record will probably not get out of the second round.
WISE UP,
WATCH YOUR MOUTH FOOL! BEFORE I REACH THREW YOUR MONITOR AND BREAK YOUR SKINNY NECK! DUMBAZZ!
nerd up,
Wake up fool. You're on Amat's blog. Go get your own hater network . wwwdumbasswerdnerd. up that fool.

Oaks v Amat, Who's Better?
Posted by rhaylock
You know, its been less than a week but I've been waiting for this to happen. I've heard a few not too subtle comments but this is the first thing that has been published. Oaks Christian and Bishop Amat have a common opponent in Alemany. The Warriors played Oaks Christian really tough in a 28-17 home loss in the season opener. Meanwhile, last Friday Bishop Amat knocked off Alemany 36-14 at home. Alemany, despite their 4-3 record, is a pretty good team in my opinion. Apparently Warriors head coach Dean Herrington believes Amat is the better team.
RH
Let's take a look at the 6 key components to Amat's success:
Johnson
Ragsdale
Casarez
McClanahan
Anderson
Ruiz
The first 3 are football players true and true but the latter 3 are baseball players who happen to also excel on the gridiron.
Fred,
Do you think AMAT NATION can have there own seperate blog. Can you say FED UP...
WARRIOR4LIFE,
WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOUR GOING TO WIN Gladstone?. First win, then talk your sh@t! Gladstones looking to be second in the league.
Great JOB AZUSA AZTECS ON CLAIMING YOUR MONTVIEW LEAGUE TITLE! Also great job AZTECS and the entire Coaching staff. The City of AZUSA is real proud of you AZTECS. Your a solid team and good luck to you in the playoffs.
2009,2010 BACK TO BACK MONTVIEW LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
To werd up:
HAHA yeah right guy.. you wish...
South hills is so below Amat its sad...
Tesoro pretty much murdered you guys, Amat would DOMINATE YOU in every way...
Suck the D werd up....
Huskie fat homegirl, go play the west covina bruins. You would not beat Amat this year if you played them. And your girlfriend Wurdup isnt under anyones skin, we have a winning team to back up our words.
Ok anyone who adds on "nation" to describe their fanbase is lame. I'm an Amat guy but please don't say amat nation. Stop listening to so much sports radio.
werd up,
Your one funny cat dude! I love how your in Amat's head too. Word up bro! Peace...
South Hills rolls Bishop if we played you this year!
sfhs89,
Thanks for the congrats but we are not the nation but rather The Amat Family . big difference but again that you for the congrats.
To werd up,
you are the one who sucks you worthless idiot.Go back to the rock quarry you snake.
sfhs89,
And almost as exciting as the Lancers OT win over the Cubs was the beatdown the Golden Knights put on the Slime. Keep it rolling and let's try to have the Mission AND the Serra League titles in the SGV!
Congratulations Amat! Great victory! Great effort by all the players, the coaches and the fans! Jerry McClanahan reminds me of Brian Harmon from 1988. They just get the job done. He probably has some of the most significant wins by an Amat quarterback in history. His work to date includes O Lu, Crespi, St. Bonnie, Loyola. He is a great leader, a tough kid and a great football player.
Team, stay grounded, stay mentally strong, and finish strong! Amat past and present are very proud to be represented by all of you!
Remember, "You can do all things through Christ, who strengthens you!"
Congrats to Glendora, Bishop Amat, and Damien... Man it should be interesting once playoffs come can't wait, but we still have league to go through and it looks like a wild finish for all of us.
Wow, to werd up philosophy
That means every team sucks, since only about 1% of teams will win a cif title in the playoffs and that team is someone else every year. Don't worry if all teams suck that's okay I will still watch them and support them.
I rather do that then be an adult who bashes schools who support the kids of the sgv communities. Werd up.
Hey Workman! You don't have to worry about playing Monrovia or Paraclete in the first round of the play-offs after all...it's time for you guys to get ready for the basketball season LOL!!!
Amat Nation - congrats on your win versus Loyola. Just as we (St. Francis) beat the Cubs last week, every time you beat Loyola, it feels damn good.
Good luck the rest of the way.
To Werdup:
8-0 and suck?? doesnt add up, but you obviously cannot add or spell. It must KILL you to see Amat be victorious? Your pain is my pleasure.
I remember back about 8 weeks ago when your entire hating crew would blog about Amat and how they would be lucky to only win 3 games this year. It looks like their is only you and your fat momma left? Remember this missy, Pain is weakness leaving your body, so this pain is good for you. Amat is glad to help you!!
Amat- The Pride of the SGV and soon to be SoCal!
werd up sucks hairy nuts as he posts, nut up.
werd up SUCKS at every post he writes, shut up.
Seriously it must have been Halloween, because those Referees were the three blind mice and they definitely affected the outcome of this game. I'm wondering how this game would have gone if Bonita was even at full strength.
First, Zach Braumgard made a great catch and it's sad that he got injured. If anyone has been around La Verne you will know that we have suffered tragedies in regards to our football program. Not that it's good, but I knew it was his leg but he was grabbing at his helmet while he was lying there so I was wondering if he had also suffered head trauma. It took the ambulance literally fifteen minutes to get to Glenn Davis when LV Station One is just down the street. The game stopped for 35 minutes as the trainer, team doctor, and finally the paramedics attended to to Zach. It looked really bad as it took what seemed an eternity even when the paramedics got here. Zach I hope everything gets better, if you're able to get back on the field this season go for it, if not don't rush your rehab you played great.
2nd, Bearcats to a man you boys played great and inspired. Regardless of the mistakes you were in the position to win and had it in your grasp. It's the best game all of us have seen this season. O-line, you guys played great giving Pendleton the time he needed as well as opening holes for Deron & Co to run through.
Deron you need to keep running kid you're doing great keep it up. Garrett you played great and we could all tell you've grown up these past two weeks, keep your head up we'll need you to keep going nothing to be pissed about you led them down the field like you owned the offense, granted everyone is a critic and the mistakes you made you also made up for and that shows how far you've come. Receivers you guys all did great keep it up.
Defense you guys played well and didn't give up too much, but we all know that you guys were down. Should have made Viramontes run around more as he was really one dimensional except three passes that were very critical. But you still got the stops when you needed them.
Kick coverage, we have to work on that that's at least two weeks in a row we've let two kicks be returned.
Third, how number 51 was not ejected from the game from DR I'll never know. That was blatant and pathetic. I don't care if you're frustrated or not you just don't do that. And why he wasn't taken off the field sooner by DRs coaches I don't know. And you don't high five after that either.
Bonita lost 36-29, and our boys played great and inspired considering the circumstances of having seven two-way players out and others out as well. Get Healthy. Hang your heads high and get ready for next week, we are all proud of you.
Zach Braumgard I hope you're alright, and don't forget you played great.
GO BEARCATS!
amat loses in playoffs like every year. they suck. werd up
Great Job Amat Coaching staff! Once again you have out coached the opponent with you great play selection(trick plays),and your great ball management(just before half time).
Loyola is a much better team than their record indicates and their QB Neuheisel is good. They have some big boys up front and that linebacker(33)looked and played like a USC backer.
I believe that RIO RUIZ was "Player of the Game".
It looked like Jay Anderson was injured? Maybe a ankle?,but Jay still did his work horse job and had some great runs. Good Job Jerry!
Great Job Defense!!
8-0! What can the haters say now? WHAT??
Getting down and dirty.. I have been watching Jerry Mac for 4 years now. He has what you cant teach. The heart of a lion. The will to win at any cost. Hes is a big big reason amats program is moving in the right direction.I have been coming to amat games for 25 years and Jerry Mac is one of my all time favs..
Hey Steve and Fred, please pick both Chino and Ayala to win over Glendora!! It seems to work for us!
It was KG passing on bad information about Covina game! Yes, he is an idiot!
News around Conq land Felipe is done at LA.
I hope it is quick after the season ends.
Bring back Despain!!!!
Some folks thought Amat should have blown out Loyola and are disappointed in the fact that they didn't. If it means anything, none of the high school match-up projection sites thought they would AND THIS IS WITH AMAT LISTED AS A TOP 10 TEAM, i.e. Calpreps: Amat 28 Loyola 20.
Loyola is a very good football team that has not had a good run lately. They recruit very good to excellent players year in and year out. I have to laugh when folks say that Amat recruits. You want to see recruiting? NO ONE and I mean NO ONE lives anywhere close to Loyola.
Amat takes an average to good, and yes sometimes great, player and teaches them to perform at a higher level. I thought this Amat victory was mostly due to coaching. I'm not taking anything away from the players, but Loyola made Amat's key players mostly none factors. Amat's coaching staff called critical plays at key times and brought more players into the mix. Enjoy the victory.
Wow! All 3 pictures in the Tribune prep sports section this morning are BA players? Yes I know they are doing great but Fred, c'mon, lets show some love for the other teams that played last night.
Well Damien and South Hills will be in the same league next year so they have to meet, along with Charter Oak.
???????,
What game were you watching. The ref's are the only thing that keep LA in that game. You got your a@@'s handed to you.
Hmm I sure do miss the Bogan vs gano aspect of this match up. I don't really think LA can bounce back and be what they once were, so I hope in the near future Damien and South hills will play ! Hey Fred what do you think of this one? I find it a very interesting match up. They haven't played in recent years.... Let's get it going!
First of all congratulations to BA. Another win. great turn around this is what the sgv division 1 school should be doing. But hey just remember your record means squat without some bling. So stay focused. And as for Rowland hey it was a good run against cupcakes. But man now the schedule just got tough and y'all don't have ball.......... I guess well never know what couldve happened. But even with ball I still think 2ndwouldve been your finish in leauge. Well good luck to all and stay healthy.
Does anyone realize Jerry Mac is 15-3 in his two years as a starting QB..pretty remarkable. Congrats to Bishop Amat...funny but the SGV GURU isn't saying as much these days. Crazy to think what the Amat haters will think of next...lol. Hags is just sick...and so is his staff who clearly game plan about as good as anyone.
Damien is in line to earn a three way tie for the Sierra League Championship. Chino Hills beats Damien.... Damien beats Glendora.,,,,Glendora beats Chino Hills...all three teams are 2-1 in league but: Damien has Diamond Bar and Chino while both Chino Hills and Glendora still have to face an angry Ayala!
At best, if all either team loses to Ayala...Damien is Co Champs...if Ayala loses both games that it's a 3-way tie for the league championship...
I'm not trying to jinx anything but clearly the Chino Hills lose was a huge mistake. Seeing how well the Spartans played against Bishop Amat makes that game make absolutely no sense. The important thing to remember is live in the present and move forward..
Anyone have details of the Damien Homecoming Game vs Ayala....who did what to whom...lol
By no means was this one of Amat's best games and Loyola nearly took advantage and pulled one off. Amat came out flat and the Cubs came out firing on all cylinders. Anderson seemed to run very soft tonight except in that power I formation. I'd like to seem him hit the block outside the tackles harder he's hitting and falling instead of running through people like the Amat running backs of old. I know he's only a junior and he's a work horse but he could easily pick up 30-40 more yards per game by lowering his shoulder and firing through holes on his toss and sweep plays. 2 or 3 plays tonight could have gone for TD's if he ran through plays. Hes still a good player but he can easily be great. Hats off to Loyola, great game tonight, they shut down DJ and got Anderson to fumble while avoiding kicking him the ball. Its really to bad Barr didn't get to play hopefully he will be back before seasons end. Great game by Jerry minus that jump ball interception he threw very well.
Is it true???....
I don't know who gave you any info on the CHS/Ganesha game but the final was CHS 48 Ganesha 0. Whoever told you 10-9 is an idiot!
West Covina 32 Rowland 10
Bulldogs came out physical for the second week in a row, team seems to have waken up since the SH loss as they came out hitting from the start, big game by Jessi Ili with some good hard running and hitting and two TD's plus a nice interception return that almost gave him a third TD. George Johnson also had a nice game completing several passes and a big run. overall a great effort by the whole team.
Props to Rowlands QB Freedman for stepping in there for his team in leu of the injury to Michael Ball, not an easy thing to do especially comming from the reciever position, the poor kid was under pressure most of the night so it was tough to pass.
It's good to see some of our injured players back even though we are still missing a few good ones, also good to see we are openning it up a little on offense, I thought the play calling was great tonight. Great game Bulldogs!
Bonita lost a heart breaker to Diamond Ranch, and the ZEBRAS THANKS FOR WINNING THE GAME.
Ganesha 2 straight league wins??? Fred is it true that covina last on a last second missed two point conversion to lose 10-9 against the Giants... all i can say is boy has the ball been dropped in the valle vista covina area. down right atrocious, game of the week in two weeks= Pomona vs. Ganesha for right to mid valley playoffs...
P.S. Giants go get the upset this week against BP
and the trip is all yours
Who cares about South Hills....what a weak and boring league. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
South El Monte 28 Rosemead 31
Great game! Rosemead returned the ball to the Eagles 45 and got a late hit so they started at the Eagles 40 yd line! Wow, then they get 3 pass interference calls in their favor in three plays. Wow! With 26 seconds left, they score and seal the game. Eagles defense did not stop rosemead, but 45 yds in penalties within 35 seconds did not help. Sometimes, refs simple don't let the kids play. Eagles should have won this one. The team keeps getting better every game.
Go Eagles!
WC 32 Rowland 10
West Co had their reserves playing Mid Way 3rd Quarter
Don't know where Rowland got that # 1 ranking LOL
That is why you schedule BIG boy football for non league games.
First of all...Los Altos played a descent 1st half but wasn't really strong..a few of the key lineman got ejected from the game because of one sided refs...who couldn't make sound calls..a bunch of facemask calls against South Hills..but when Los Altos would facemask, late hit the kicker...late hit South Hills no calls were made accept for one...Yes..poor coaching calls by South Hills in the first half..team not playing physical enough..took Los Altos lightly..but they could only score 1 touchdown when the Huskies weren't playing there A game..when the 2nd half started..it was all South Hills through the rest of the ball game...causing several fumbles and interceptions..going down field to Ify...and just dominating being more physical...sorry Los Altos..it's going to take more than one sided refs to give you the upperhand...there's really nothing that can stop South Hills except for South Hills...Go Huskies!
yup west co beat rowland 32-10, but hey thats wat happens in football, you lose great players, your team needs to pick up the pace and play harder, thats wat west co did but rowland didnt, also i believe it was a wakup call to rowland if they want to do better
Hands down the Serra is the most exciting and toughest league in Southern California. Each game tonight came down to the wire, win-loss records go out the window and don't mean squat, each team gave it all tonight.
Notre Dame 23-21 over Crespi.
Amat 27-24 over Loyola.
Loyola came out with all barrels blazing tonight, that Neuheisel kid is one tough SOB. Everyone was on their feet tonight, hoping, praying for a win and Amat pulls another stunner at the end after coming from behind to tie the game at 21-21 in the last minute. This team is truly remarkable.
You boys make us all proud. I'm glad my boy choose Amat over St. John Bosco.
Go Lancers!!!!
i heard west co won 32-10
Man these overtime games are killing me.
Loyola was 3-4 before this? They didn't look like it. Talk about a tough win, we had to pull a gut check for this one. Really, I don't think we looked that sharp tonight but had just enough to win. Big plays were the difference again and we were the ones to execute them.
The difference between this team and those of a couple of years ago was that these guys just don't give up and you can thank excellent coaching for that.
One down, two more to go. On Blue.
Anyone know the score of West Covina V. Rowland?
You had to know Loyola would put up a fight. The lower ranked team in this rivalry almost always makes it close. This season is special for Amat, I only hope they can finish strong. It would suck if they got bounced in the 1st round or get annihilated by ND.
Tartans 24 - Chino Hills 23!!! Go Tartans!! The race for the Sierra League Championship is on!!
CO wins 42-0! Way to go Muema!
Was at the South Hills vs Los Altos game and though the final score was 29-7 in favor of South Hills, they didnt look very impressive. Los Altos was dominating the first half up until the 3rd quarter when they gave up a saftey which changed momentum in favor of South Hills. The way South Hills played today didnt show much and congrats to Los Altos for hanging on but you should consider a quarterback change because #2 makes alot of bad decisions which might have cost you the game. Look forward to next weeks game Los Altos at Diamond Ranch
Wow. ND down 21-20 kicks a 51yd FG to win with 1 sec left. Serra league is crazy!
CO wins 42-0!
7-1, then 2, then 3, then gone baby gone! : 3-5, then 6, then 7, then gone baby gone! - what about guts?
Cubs insider: say goodbye to 3-5 Cubs
werd up: What Amat 73 said.
COUNT WORKMAN OUT IN THE 1ST ROUND OF CIF...THEY GOT HIT N HIT HARD BY THE INJURY BUG...SILVA OUT(KNEE)...BRADFORD OUT(KNEE) AND MOLINA OUT(KNEE)...IF THIS WAS A HEALTHY LOBO SQUAD...THEN THEY WOULD HAVE COMPETED FOR THE TITLE...ITS TOO BAD LOBOS...UR GOING TO MONROVIA OR PARACLETE
touchdown Lancers!
27-24
8-0!
AMAT WINS!!! 27 - 24 in OVERTIME!!!
Rosemead game? or La Canada game?
touchdown Lancers!
27-24
8-0!
Loyola up 24-21
Amat ball
Uh Oh, And this was Amat's easiest opponent in league.
Sondheimer is at Crespi/ND & he's beating you to the punch!
Tied at 21!
Lancers tie the score on Johnson's 1 run, 56 seconds left....21-21...
Loyola up 21-14 with 5:49 left....
FINAL:
Damien: 17
Ayala: 7
Not impressed with either team. It's a "W" for the Spartans....
We go to the fourth, still 14-14, Lancers going to get the ball back to start it.
14-14 at the half, Lancers tie the game with a double pass with 20 sec to go.
I guess that amat offense is starting to click right on time...oh nvm.
LA Times/Sondheimer has Loyola 14-7 in 2nd qtr? Fred - we gotta hear it from the streets? True? or Not?
Loyola dominating, should be more one-sided, 14-7..Cubs have nearly 200 yards total offense in first half, Lancers about 20 total yards.
Loyola scored on a 34 yard pass play, 7-7 3:56 left in second quarter.
Davis Cazares scored on a fake punt, going 44 yards for a touchdown, 7-0 Lancers...
I'm at the Bishop Amat game, will post updates after each score.
Can someone give updates on the game? The "live" update on the tribune is horrendous.
I don't know why all these parent's love CO so much, everyone knows that they go out to Pasadena for all their talent. The coaching staff doesnt know what talent they have in CO. That is why that staff is so bad!! FACT!!!
GO WILSON!!!
On my way to the best high school tailgating in California. No one does it like the hard core Amat fans.
Game will sell out tonight!
Go Amat, The PRIDE of the SGV!
gone baby gone,
Why am I hating on werd . Because he is a worthless piece of shiat that has nothing good to contribute to the blog . Just like you dumb ass. Did you come out from under the same rock. Now shut your hole before you get it stuffed chump. Barr or no Barr we will win tonight . Hopefully he does play then you will no excuses when you lose.
It certainly would be too premature and risky to put Barr in the game just to stir up the pot. I don't think Mrs. Barr (St. Paul principal) is that dumb to allow her son to play and risk ruining his UCLA career for a HS game. However, if he does play, I hope Amat defenders will use last year's loss as a motivator, including Cazares and take him out of the game by legal means.
Let's Beat the CUBS!!!!!
I hope Barr plays, that will make Amats victory that much sweeter and make the haters squirm even more. We are not affraid of ANYONE!
Covering the Wilson-CO game tonight...
Covered Ganesha-Northview last week so I mean can never say, never.. We'll see how this one goes though.. Covered CO-Etiwanda and the Chargers really boast great balance on offense and defense and certainly have some terrific athletes on that team.. AJ Powell, Adam Muema and Brandon Golden are electric.. Didn't get a chance to see Rufus at all, but saw good things from him in the Rancho game.. Youngblood looks like a beast and that offensive line is pretty huge... Chargers should be fine and are right on course to repeating as C.I.F. champs..
Why are you hating on werd up? Relax with the thin skin you uptight, defensive, about to get your guts reammed out of you hippo!
GO CUBS!!!!!!!!!!
If Barr plays then Loyola will win if he doesnt then Bishop Amat stays undefeated
What if wilson shocks the world tonight?
What if....
werd up ,
Do to your constant bs I will pull no punches on this one .
Eat shit and die you low life sob.
go cubs. Loyola-44 Amat=7 werd up
SGV FOOTBALL...it's true about Thropay's broken collarbone and Santiago having a concussion. I heard that Santiago played like half the DR game with the concussion. Expect the Chargers to be motivated after last week's poor showing and Brown is a good athlete that is more than capable of leading the team. So I think that they will bounce back with a strong game.
we have been secretly preparing for Barr, tonight he will get smacked
SGV FOOTBALL,
Not going to really matter, we are way over match tonight. The Bonita game next week could be interesting, we should be getting back a few key players.
Hey Cubby,
You are full of crap! No 200+ pounder recovers in 6 weeks. That was a 12 week recovery time, break.
If true, and he does play, GREAT!
Our defense will put him right back on the bench!!!
ON BLUE!!!
Seriously doubt Barr is playing tonight. If he does, hes a fool and the coaching staff should be ashamed for bringing him back so soon. The kid has a bright future at the next level (Hopefully at UCLA), no reason to risk that now. If he does play then it should be interesting, still see Amat coming out on top though.
Is it true? are both CO QB's injured? this is very unfortunate. CO should be able to muscle through it and come out with the "W". I love watching Amat play local competition, and winning, but I especially love it when SGV teams come home with banners to hang. Good luck CO.
Go Amat!!!
Did Amat really score at the end there? That looked pretty close.
Anthony Barr will play tonight, say goodbye to 7-0 Lancers. We have been saving him for league, he's not a 100 percent, but he's quietly been practicing and tonight we unleash him.
Not tonight Loyola. Make a statement Amat- This is your year! Bring the hats and the swarming defense. I gotta a feeling that Jay Anderson is going to have a huge game tonight along with DJ and the rest of the offense and special teams.
Amat fans: Best 12th man in the SGV!
Amat 42
Cubs 10
That was posted yesterday on Mid Valley Sports:
http://midvalleysports.com/?p=3798
CO breaking news... I need to confirm.
Does anyone out there know if this is true.
Thropay broke his collar bone - true I confirmed.
Santiago out with a concussion?
6ft-4 Kyle Brown will be getting the start today at QB?
COCHARGERFAN did you hear about this?
that is Coach Rix on the right...i miss him as a coach!
Very simple. Bearcats continue the turnaround and win tonight. It does not matter that it is ugly or pretty, it's football and you kids know how to play. Diamond Ranch is not what they were last year but they are still a well coached and talented team. Play your game, defense play big, offense just get the first downs and scores needed to win.
Everyone in La Verne come out tonight your team needs you.
GO BEARCATS!
Let's GO Lancers! Beat the CUBS!!!!!!!
Amat will shine tonight !!
