Monrovia's No. 1, but is that the No. 1 spot?

| | Comments (16) |

Above:That's right I said it.

There is a discussion on the Star-News blog about Monrovia being in the best shape to win its first championship after like, seven or eight finals trips. I'm sorry to say it, but they're not getting to the finals.

Mid-Valley rankings 1. Monrovia, 2. San Dimas, 3. Azusa, 4. Baldwin Park, 5. Paraclete, 6. San Marino, 7. Village Christian, 8. Arroyo, 9. Gladstone, 10. La Puente.

Message to Monrovia: I post these rankings to show the championship is going to be San Dimas and Paraclete. Sorry MTown, Paraclete is a different animal and its a shame that because they lost to some very tough teams, they will probably get the No. 4 seed when the playoffs start, which means they will knock off No. 1 Monrovia in the semis. I'm guessing No. 2 San Dimas will beat Baldwin Park for the VVL title, knocking Baldwin Park behind Paraclete, and moving Paraclete to No. 4. There is no way Azusa is losing to anyone in the Montview, so they're locked in at No. 3. Just as San Dimas and Northview found out last year, the rankings can work against you. Monrovia should play someone like Azusa in the semis, but with Paraclete looming at No. 4, I'm afraid they won't get to stop San Dimas again, Paraclete will.

Silly Cat-

I've seen Monrovia and I'm not impressed at all. I was at the start of the season, but after the last two weeks....nah, I'm okay.

If you guys are that good, then what business does SM and TC have being remotely close to beating you guys in consecutive weeks? You got far more talent than those squads hands down!

So if you say it's not that they've peaked....then are they just way too confident instead? I just don't get it. They're not going to last in the playoffs playing like this.

Monrovia will go 14-0, If you think that they are peaking then you and Fred have never been to a game. They have the cream of the crop of defense and the cream of the crop on offense. De'Shawn Ramirez is the most electrifying back in the game, although he has minimal carries he has scored every 5 times he's touched the ball. If you haven't seen Monrovia play then you have no clue what you are talking about.

I don't see Monrovia going all the way. They might have peeked already.

I forgot the #1 team gets the at-large team. It was switched last year due to a conflict. So I'm guessing it would now be....

Dimas vs. #3, #5 MVL (Mead/Gab)

and...

San Marino vs. #2, #4 La Puente

while the top is changed to:

Rovia vs. At-large (workman)

and...

#2, #3 OLY (Vill/Vall) vs. #2, #5 S. El Monte

If all pans out the way I think it should, then Just Sayin' is dead on.

Because I was bored, I drew the brackets up for the fun of it (projecting where teams should finish ranked). I had to adjust some match-ups due to league conflicts - teams from same league can see each starting in the semis. Preference was given to higher ranked team in conflict. They will be marked with a "*"

Here is what came out of the little playoffs experiment:

#1, #1 Monrovia vs. #3, #5 MVL (Mead/Gab)

#2, #3 OLY (Vill/Vall) vs. #2, #4 La Puente

#1, #4 Paraclete vs. #3, #1 Gladstone*

#2, #1 Baldwin Park vs. #3, #4 Temple City*

#1, #3 Azusa vs. #3, #3 Pomona

#1, #5 Arroyo vs. #3, #1 OLY (Vill/Vall)*

#2, #2 San Marino vs. #2, #5 S. El Monte

#1, #2 San Dimas vs. At-Large Workman

Go ahead...rip it apart.

Man Fred,,

I remeber you picked Workman to win the Mnt.view at the begining of the season. Workman had one bad loss to LP were they were down 2 of their starting LB's. And it cost them against LP. There only other loss was a 1 point. Ive seen Azusa play twice and they'er pretty balanced but its not a far gone conclusion that they will run the table. If the lobos lose to HappyRock then maybe your right. But i doubt they lose. You should go to the Azusa vs Workman game on Nov 13. That will be for the league Title and set up a 3 way tie for a league title that will result in the infamous COIN flip!! See ya their Fred.

has nothing to do about monrovia/San Dimas head-to-head if they don't meet again. what Fred is saying is if Monrovia is #1 and Paraclete is #4 - they will meet in the semis - leaving San Dimas and Azusa, BP, LP, etc potentially in the other semi. If 'Clete is #4 - #1 is no reward.

Let me see if I get this straigth... San Dimas will play in the Mid Valley final and not Monrovia who has already beaten San Dimas handily 36-17? Seems to me Fred you've been drinking too much of the Guru's Cool-aid!

OBCAT-

Don't get fixated on the offensive numbers. Dude, we put the blue in blue collar when it comes to punching the clock. We haven't even peaked on offense yet. Two of our last three games were blowouts, so our starters were pulled really quick. No sense in risking injury for personal achievement. So theoretically, we haven't even played our full hand yet. We got the numbers to beat any team. Most of all - like Joe Amat said - we got the mindset too.

Look, we're not the same team from last year, so we're not going to come at you the same way.

I am willing to bet we have the best defense in the division, hands down. Three straight shutouts...they've given up a total of -8 yards rushing in those trio of tilts...with 246 yards in total offense surrendered. And they're getting stronger and better.

Plus, we've banged with bigger cats all season long to prepare for the playoffs. Had we been healthy against St. Paul and Hart, we would be 7-1 right now. But we're not and we're okay with life out here. We are however slowly working into the mindset we need as the weeks pass.

SGV - Arroyo is good, but predictable on offense and easy to shutdown. They won't have the luxuries they've had so far against the better teams in the playoffs.

San Marino is like our version of Village. A good record, but it's a false positive. Who have they played again? So they got up for one game. Sure they have talent, but I bet they don't have the depth.

I'd say throw Baldwin Park into the mix. A steady team with size and talent, who can bruise you to death. I question their approach a bit and I don't know if they have the stamina. They do have heart though.

TC comes to mind but they might have run out of gas in three weeks. Pomona has the talent, just no direction. The rest of the MVL has seen better days. The Montview may make a little rattle, but I don't see them staying at the dance too too long.

So it brings me to Rovia, Dimas and Clete. Those are you're top contenders.

Just a reminder about Paraclete... in case I let anybody forget. They had gone SEVEN straight seasons without a single win before they hired Steve Hagerty, who had been an Assistant Coach? Dean of Discipline at Amat. Paraclete's Principal at the time was long team Amat Dean/Coach - Cleo Martinez. Paraclete's basketball coach was also a former Lancer lower level coach - and I think both remain as teachers at the school.

After a couple seasons Hagerty had Paraclete winning THREE consecutive CIF titles, he left the program in good enough shape that they won two more after he left to join Mark Parades (former Amat head FB coach) as the OC at Riverside North, where they won another CIF title before being runner-up to Centennial the next year.

Paraclete has been good ever since the culture was changed, they just believe they're supposed to win - which is tough for opponents to overcome. That goes a long way. Hags has done it before . This hill is a tougher one to climb - but we didn't have as far to go.

(psssstttt: don't tell Cleo and Andy - but I'm rooting for the SGV!)

Stay wrong about the CATS. I am willing to bet that Paraclete wont make the finals in the Mid-Valley this year. Have you really checked out their numbers?..... I would put San Dimas, San Marino, and Maybe even Baldwin Park in front of them. Temple City could also ruin their dream if you let them. They have absolutely no running game. In order to take down Monrovia you will need the best running game in the Division. So hop back on your computer and try and think of another team you can put in front of the CATS. NOT THIS YEAR or NEXT IF YOUR WATCHING!!!!!

SGV FOOTBALL said:

Fred,

I see what your saying, I dont know if Paraclete will win it this year but they have been there in the past and are veterens when it comes to CIF title games. These are the only teams in the Mid Valley that compete for that title:

Paraclete
Monrovia
San Marino
Arroyo~watch out for that team they could upset any team.
San Dimas
