Now that releaguing is finished, what about playoff divisions? The Sierra to the Southeast?
I'm working on this for tomorrow, but I thought I would give you a sneak peak.
Charter Oak High School football coach Lou Farrar brought up a good point when asked about the results of last week's releaguing, which puts Charter Oak and South Hills in the Sierra League for the releaguing cycle than runs from 2010-14.
The Chargers are leaving the Miramonte and the Huskies the San Antonio for the more powerful Sierra, which will include Damien, Claremont and Chino Hills.
Farrar was asked how the Chargers would not only compete in the Sierra, but how they would do in the Central Division, which includes the Baseline, San Andreas, Sunbelt and Mt. Baldy Leagues. "Are we still in that division?" Farrar asked. To continue, click thread
The answer to that is yes for now, but that could change in April when the playoff groupings for the 2010-12 cycle are voted on again, and considering there were many league changes voted on last week, it could drastically change the playoff landscape when it comes time to reshuffle the playoff divisions again.
When the playoff groupings were voted on for the 2008-10 cycle, which ends following the spring season, there was an emphasis placed on competitive equity and regionalization, which created a home-town playoff atmosphere with the Southeast and Mid-Valley Divisions, which are almost all comprised of area teams.
The CIF-Southern Section is asking the same criteria be used again when considering the next playoff-grouping cycle that begins in the fall of 2010.
With the Miramonte/San Antonio league merging to become one seven-team league, only four leagues would comprise the Southeast Division if it were left as is.
Of the 13 playoff divisions, only the Inland Division is comprised of only four leagues, but three of those leagues have seven or more teams competing.
So much could happen, the Olympic League could leave the Mid-Valley Division, paving the way for a Southeast league like the Almont to move down.
That means potentially, the Sierra League could become part of the Southeast Division, which would be ironic since many of the schools principals that comprise the Southeast voted to get Charter Oak and South Hills in the Sierra and out of the division.
Be careful what you wish for?
"When you look at geography, when you look at enrollment, when you look at competitive equity across the board, it would make more sense for us to be grouped with Southeast teams," Farrar said. "In football we'll be fine no matter where they place us, but when you look at the big picture, you have to think of travel time for your lower-level teams. So, to answer your original question, I don't know what to think of the Central Division, because I don't know if that's where they will put us."

Hey Spartan...didn't CO beat your team a month ago? So, what exactly makes you believe that they won't compete next year in the Sierra? Just wondering?
Mr. Husky Dog or Husky Do, Whatever you call yourself. Watch what you wish for. SH & CO will learn the meaning of playing in a real league. No more patsies here. Claremont might be your only win. Everything else is up in the air. Welcome to the Sierra League. Don't let the door hit you on the way out!!!
Mr. Ryan is correct that football uses its own division markers but reaches the wrong conclusion because the leagues for the other sports are also slotted into like level divisions. For example, in Basketball, the Sierra is IA and the Miramonte is IIIA. In Baseball, the Sierra is II and the Miramonte III. In soccer, Sierra is DII and Miramonte is DIV (by the way, CO's boys team didn't win a single league game last year)...there is a direct connection so ALL of CO's and SH's teams are moving up a division. The SSCIF needs to hire Joe Amat because he has the solution to this problem (i.e. use the level of competitiveness to slot the league for each school's individual sports).
Wow this will be a great opportunity for SH and CO to show them sierra boys how Ctown is run. Leauge champs will be determined by SH or CO for years to come. These two schools should take this opportunity to leave their bottom feeder leaugs to show once again, no matter where ya put em, Bog and Lou know how to win. best of luck to all and stay healthy.
Wow, now we have players posting on the blog. Where's his parents because I know if that was my child or if I was his coach and I knew he was commenting on the blog I wouldn't be happy. Finish your homework and get your eight hours of sleep. Something tells me too that Glendora Tartans shouldn't be insinuating anything about Charter Oak when they themselves literally walked away from a contract so who's really afraid are the Pride of the Foothills!
Beat West Covina and Damien and then you can sound off on the blog boys! Your team may not even make the playoffs! Have fun in the Baseline next year! We play that preseason schedule and my guess is you'll be going home after ten games next year...
Amat 73 why not schedule a Charity George Foreman type game at MSAC
1st Quarter West Covina
2nd Quarter Damien
3rd Quarter Diamond Ranch
4th Quarter Charger Oak
What do you say to that Joey? lmao
Could you imagine the gate?????
Then Bishop Amat could go along its merry way....
any predictions to what the score would be?
remember this is all in fun and not meant to disrespect anyone...at all...on any level...if anything I'm making fun of myself
WOW DOES ANYBODY NOTICE WHAT FARRAR JUST SAID!!!!!! HE SAID WHEN TALK ABOUT LEAUGES YOU SHOULD LOOK AT TRAVEL TIME AND GEOGRAPHY! BUT WHEN GLENDORA SAID ITS TO FAR FOR US TO TRAVEL FOR EVERY GAME EVERYONE SAID OH ITS AN EXCUSE TO GET OUT OF BASELINE LEAUGE!!! BUT WHEN FARRAR SAYS IT, ITS OKAY WOW! THATS DUM MAYBE HES THE ONE WHOS TRULEY SCCARED THE CENTRAL DIVISION IS TO MUCH!!!
SGV FOOTBALL,
Hell yes that game should be played next year and the year after. Mt Sac would be the right place for it and it should be on a Saturday night so all the valley can attend. I believe we have a couple of slots open as we have just concluded away and home games with Damien , WC, DR , so there should be an open date . First let's get thru this season then we should all start hammering the blog and Fred to get this game on the board.
Could it be that moving to a tougher league and higher division is signaling the end of a dynasty.Seems like SGV is saying other than last year or 01 they really haven't matched up to the competition and COCF's spin seems there are other issues on why they were moved . But really it seems like they are pissed because their easy come titles be it league or cif days are over. No more push over league for you . Let's see what you boys are really made of now. All those cupcake games of yesteryear are over . Step up and prepare to get taken to the shed.
Hey does anyone know if CO has any open dates for next years football schedule? We need to lobby early and get CO and BA hopefully next year at Mt Sac, since CO is jumping up two divisions it will prepare us better for our league. What do you guys think???
Pack Your Bags,
shut the f*ck up, pack your bags and take your whining elsewhere. Its one thing to win league over and over. Since last years title CO's most recent CIF Title was in 2001 so don't say we have macthed up with the other teams in our division. Because if we did we would have won 2 or 3 more titles in the last decade. The Sierra is not going to be moved to Southeast dont worry the other teams will now have a better shot at wining it now AKA West Covina and Diamond Ranch. Next year will be a learning curve for CO and we will make playoffs and leave our mark maybe.
Staying in the Southeast, right. Never going to happen...CO and SH were moved to the Sierra for a reason...and it wasn't so someone else could be the league champs...
Pack your bags, i know the Sierra is inthe Central Div nowadays, and the Inland before that cuz the Sierra league got booted/moved whatever you wanna call it a couple years ago outta the Inland Div (where they did nothing in the football playoffs), they still cant hang with the I.E teams wether its Central or Inland, they should be in a SGV Divison and move the Almont or Pacific leagues the hell out.....dont be ascared of CO, SH and the old Sierra league teams,.....step up, open up...embrace them and lets get it on....
Keep the Sierra in the Central.
There is competition there unlike in the southeast.
If the sierra moved to the southeast, the Division Champ would almost certainly come from the sierra every year.
I like that idea, drop the Almont or Del Rio and bring in the Sierra.
Yes it would sweet.....i hope CIF keeps the Sierra league in the SE Div, keeping us all together.....the Sierra league teams CANT HANG WITH I.E...., lets hope they stay around these parts for playoff groupings, and another true SGV champion.......
Hey in basketball the Sierra League plays in all sorts of divisions don't they? I know Chino Hills lost to Mater Dei in the playoffs, Damien lost to Eisenhower and Glendora lost to Leuzinger.
Why not do the same in football? Although Damien and Chino Hills in the Southeast would be sweet!
