Tribskin Pick'em, your predictions and ours

| | Comments (22) |

Steve and I will go head-to-head throughout the season. Here is our updated records on the Tribskin Pick'em thread.

Robledo: Last week/Total: 10-6/98-32
Ramirez: Last week/Total: 13-3/91-39

Last Week: Steve is chipping away, making up three games over the weekend to cut my lead to seven. The big differences were that he took South Hills over West Covina, Northview over Pomona and Baldwin Park over Covina, which obviously I missed and missed badly. We both missed terribly picking Damien. I was getting text message updates from my buddy Tom and by the end of the first quarter, that game was over.
This week: Not a real difficult time making these picks, if I lose more than two something's wrong. The only real difficult games were Los Altos-Bonita, of which I took L.A., and Alemany-Bishop Amat, which of course I'm sticking with the Lancers (even though Alemany is 4-2 with a win over Crespi). I would have included Damien-Glendora in the toss-ups, but not after what Chino Hills did to the Spartans on Friday.

This week's games and predictions
Thursday's games
Azusa vs. Gladstone at Citrus College, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Azusa); Ramirez (Azusa)
Baldwin Park vs. Pomona at Ganesha, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (BPark); Ramirez (Pomona)
Friday's games
Bonita at Los Altos, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Los Altos); Ramirez (Los Altos)
Diamond Ranch vs. Charter Oak at Ganesha, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (COak); Ramirez (Ch. Oak)
El Monte at South El Monte, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (SElMonte); Ramirez (El Monte)
Gabrielino at Arroyo, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Arroyo); Ramirez (Arroyo)
Mountain View at Rosemead, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Rosemead); Ramirez (Rosemead)
La Puente at Bassett, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (La Puente); Ramirez (La Puente)
Workman vs. Sierra Vista at La Puente, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Workman); Ramirez (Workman)

Frank, you never even went to Damien.

Wait, Is this the History blog or the prep sports blog?

L'histoire de Grèce said:

You did not dishonor the Ancient Greeks...but Damien's players need a lot more than just a pep talk about Spartans and Leonidas. And comparing Damien's trials of adversity to Thermopylae doesn't work.

However you can draw from recent days of Damien's own football history to teach what needs to be done to get back on top. However it seems there's still trouble on Bonita Avenue.

benchwarmer...wow...you've made a comeback! spent the last couple of days going over your past post from years gone past...all the way back to gano's LA castaneda

why the triumphant return?

ummmmm history....might want to take a college class from time to time and see life on a grander scale. life is about drawing parallels and learning from others in an effort to learn about yourself

phil jackson was once thought to be nothing more than a laid back hippie with far out ideas masking his inabiity to comprehend strategic X and O masterminds or nothing more than the luckiest doorman for all time greats jordan, shaq and kobe....now phil jackson has proved the greatest dividend in sports is the preparation of the mindset of players...and he does this by forcing his players to look at the bigger picture and draw parallels from the greatest warriors, tacticians, thinkers and philosophers and apply it to their lives.

if in your mind i have discredited the original spartans you know nothing ...if anything their bravery speaks directly to each one of us...faced with incredible odds every man has to ask himself the eternal question...do i flee, flow or fight?

bishop amat is a great example of this belief....faced with changing demographics, a shrinking dollar and an ever stronger and better funded opponent... do they flee and ask to be move down a division, flow and wait for the indignty of being asked to leave or do they fight and say not today, not tomorrow not ever!

13-4 in their last 17 games and a #7 ranking in the Pac 5 sends out a resounding call to arms and a battle cry "WE'RE STILL HERE!!!". Here's the scary thing...what would Hags and company have accomplished during the Verti years when "trouble makers, disgraceful and embarrassing malcontents and living in the past losers" like my friend Joey asked the tough questions and demanded tough answers.

you see my friends...it's easy to be called a disgrace and walk away with your tail between your legs but it's better to be standing when the dust clears....Im still standing. my favorite book is The Republic...by Plato....and yes "the unexamined life is not worth living"

ummmmm history....you HONOR soldiers and warriors by remembering them and using their example as a guide...I THOUGHT YOU KNEW THAT?

READ "THE APOLOGY" AND YOU'LL UNDERSTAND TEH LAST FOUR YEARS...wait am I dishonoring Socrates?

old spartan player,

do you know your spartan history? good I'm sure you do as all spartan alumni are spartan experts.

who was ephialtes of trachis and why is he pivotal to spartan history?

history is filled with ephialtes like individuals who have an axe to grind or point to be made. leonidas made one critical mistake on that historic battle field defending the pass at thermoplyae.

betrayal defeated leonidas but it also united greece to defeat the persians and set in motion a tale of bravery and honor that stands to this day. ephialtes also has his place in history along side the benedict arnolds of this world who do nothing but unite what they seek to destroy.

spartans we have our leonidas and we have our ephialtes.....the choice is clear....our history is clear....ephialtes will not sieze the day....the future belongs to the strong, to the brave...defended by men of honor...men of character...men of sparta!!!!

i see our leonidas today and i stand side by side with him...ready for the high stakes battle....the tide of the weak will recede into the ocean as it always does

I know this to be true...champions never quit, winners will always get up and men of honor will always stand triumphant over the weak.

we have our leonidas...and he will not fail unless we fail him....honor means something in this life...duty means something in this life..leadership is everything

"with my shied or on it"...is that not the spartan creed? what does it mean...what does it stand for? i my mind those words are a bold statement that no one...no one...is above the team...sacrifrice, honor, duty and allegiance must unite sparta...anything less and we are all ephialtes

i for one stand here to say....no more!!!!

either you are with us or you are against us all...you decide

THE TIME FOR SPARTA TO UNITE IS NOW!!!!!

LONG LIVE SPARTA...LONG LIVE OUR LEONIDAS!!!

To where are they now,
I still think that Damien is the Best 1-4 team around. LoL … I was at the Chino hills game and truly am disappointed. They were competing in the beginning and if you were there you would have seen it, but big miscues can really hurt any team.( look at the eagles they lost to the raiders.haha) Like drop passes for big gains and including one in the end zone and also having the quarterback trying to throw the ball away and instead throws it to the other team linebacker at their own 20 is really bad. All I can say now is that Damien has Glendora next and just needs to forget about last Friday. Hey, there is still 4 more games and if they are able to get wins and make the playoffs I would say that this season is a big success.

Wilson - Rowland sidenote said:

If in fact the Wilson parents vote on Wed at their open parents meeting to possibly end the Wilson/LA rivalry - and present that case at their meeting with the HLP school board on Thursday concerning the LA game, the talk is to keep Rowland and ask for a new 4 year rotation instead of LA. And there is a lot of momentum to do so right now (obviously). Well - Rowland is this Friday. Certainly, Wilson and Rowland admin will be in contact this week - so who knows. Maybe a new rivalry could start towards the east - and just let those guys in the west do whatever they do and with good ridance - we'll send flowers for them to plant around the wheel

LA doesn't have anyone besides number 4 hes there only play maker Bonita's Defense will shut him down Bonita is a much better team then their record says im predicting a victory by 14 and im sorry to say for the miramonte league and the division wilson is garbage they'll be a contender next year in the valley vista league

Benchwarmer said:

To Where Are They Now....
They are as quiet as church mice, now aren't they? This 2010 Damien group blamed last year's record on the 5 starting seniors (only 5 on both sides of the ball)- even though the qb, runningback, and receivers were from the junior (2010) class! You would think they would be a winning team now, wouldn't you? Two years on varsity and they have only won a total of 4 games!!! Can't blame the coaching this year - it's all on the 2010 players.

hey u messed up,
dont think ahead of yourself to fast.. i was able to watch los altos last week play against my brothers team. los altos has some play makers on their theam, and dont go saying wilsons no good either.. you can find that out yourself in a few weeks.

my prediction los altos 28 bonita 7

u messed up said:

Bonita doesn't just want 2 bounce back they are going 2 bounce back this week and wilson isnt exactly a good football team there remember u lost by 30 to San Dimas Bonita lost by 8 and there some big time defensive players coming back this week I say bonita wins by 14

WHERE ARE THEY NOW said:

Calling all Spartans,
Where is all that high and mighty talk about the best 1-4 team around and that strong schedule will only make them better in league. Well after that thrashing on Friday and Glendora up next it looks like the honeymoon is over and the papers might get filed Saturday morning. Where are the backers now .

My oh My...has Alemany grown... said:

Alemany should seriously test Bishop Amat, whose offense has been inconsistent this season. Alemany has already beaten a very good Crespi team. This win was more convincing than St. Bonaventure's win over Crespi. They have definitely proven that they can ball in the Serra.

The Lancers will definitely have to step things up. Best of luck to our boys in blue!

TrueBlue said:

This is Bonita's season. A must win. They should win but 5 losses might have put their minds in the tank.

Test said:

Even though Bishop Amat has been the best team in the valley this year and are having a tremendous year this is truly a test to see if there a legit Pac-5 team. All there wins have come to lesser talent besides that St. Bonnie win. If they lose then that St. Bonnie win will look like a fluke. I'm rooting for Amat but this in my opinion is going to be a good game.

LA Fan said:

picking LA isnt a bad pick its just what they think. this game can go either way, but the team that plays some defense will come out on top. Bonita is coming off a shutout against Charter Oak and wants to bounce back, LA is coming off an impressive win over Wilson and want to carry that to Bonita. Yet LA should win but it will be very close. This game will decide the 3rd spot for the miramonte playoffs

u made the wrong pick picking LA over Bonita and youll see that come friday
