Anything and anyone you want to talk about

Game of the week? As long as Bishop Amat keeps winning, they will start to dominate games of the week from here on out, and Friday is warranted facing Loyola in the Serra opener. This is the biggest of the three games by far, if the Lancers win, they will undoubtedly make the playoffs as a Pac-5 wild card at worst, which will take some pressure off in pursuit of winning the Serra title. If they lose, hold your breath, because they will either have to win at Crespi or home in the season finale against Notre Dame to get in. They might be 7-0, but the "real" season starts now.

Athletes of the week: Looking for nominations for boys and girls athletes of the week.

Thursday's games
Diamond Bar at Chino, 7 p.m.
Baldwin Park vs. Northview at Covina District Stadium, 7 p.m.

Hey wow, all I will say is do you have supernatural powers and read Mr. Allen’s mind?…I’ll leave it at that. As to CO’s offense…if Muema had a vote I’m betting that he’d agree too…he sure takes a ton of punishment every game...and Rufus looks bored stiff most of the time (that is, when he's actually playing receiver which isn't very often now)...and Golden rarely plays offense. What would defenses do if they looked across the line and Muema and Golden were in the backfield at the same time...talk about an inside/outside threat.

Thanks Amat 73 because I really think that this is what Beep Beep meant and that he was complimenting Amat and not trying to disrespect them. Joey…I know which games you guys won and lost in 2005 but it doesn’t matter anymore…you may have noticed that I’m a living in the present, past year’s games are meaningless and non-transitive property kind of guy (tongue in cheek), which is all that I was saying. Considering how the 2009 team is playing I have a hard time understanding why anyone from Amat would even want to mention years gone by…man, enjoy the PRESENT ride because it is pretty sweet…and is still ongoing…

As someone that went to pretty much all of Damien’s games in 2002 and 2003, it is nice to see them on the rise again. I’m not surprised that they beat Glendora because with a few breaks, they could have just as easily beat CO. It looks like the Glendora win has stopped all the fire the coach talk so they can continue working on restoring the program without the dogs barking at their heels.

Joey you bring up a great point...the original climate of the blog which happen to coincide with Amat's Verti Years...funny but you were Satan in those days...lol

Trust me I know how you feel. Joey, I've had this question in mind for a couple of weeks....there must be those who know who you are or at least know you from Chalk Talks run ins...(by the way those still going?)...what do they say now to you after Hagerty has refocused and recentered the Lancers.

Here at Damien the differences are drastic as everyone recognizes an overall improvement in the players fundamentals and coaches work ethic.

Last Friday Damien finally put a signature win in the books and swept Glendora at all levels...a first during my 7 years I believe.

So Joey...have the old guard Lancers reclaimed their school from the insurgent Amat Nation virus that elbowed their way to the forefront? I've been trying to find you on the sidelines but apparently you old devil you...you hide your tail well...lol

A man is nothing if he doesn't fight for something!

wow....could this be real? said:

COCF, I agree with Amat 73.

One thing COCF...what's gong on with the Big Lou offense? Last year I thought he could have opened up the offene a whole lot more and maybe Allen gets his ticket punched, it wasn't as much strength of schedule that hurt him but maximizig his ability on the field. Rufus, Adam, Golden are all burners and play makers who could have blown teams apart getting them in open space rather than running between tackles and long bombs.

As far as the DR ~ Amat games I think that series has played itself out from the Lancers perspective. But that's DR's decision to make and not mine for sure. CO vs Serra would be a great game as would DR vs. Cathedral....so maybe omeone looks into those matchups.

Glad to see COCF and others are getting along...again...lol

73,

Don't blame COChargerfan for his blast to the past in '05 when he said playing someone and beating them are two different things. I had actually given him specific permission to shift gears and re-enter his visit to the past (after he didn't want to earlier) specifically for '05. After all that was the year Amat beat Mater Dei(and Matt Barkley), as well as Loyola... the eventual Division 1 Champions so we certainly "competed" with the best in the division that season. That also was the infamous 96-16 sweep of the three other valley "powers".

Unfortunately we were also inconsistent that year and dropped a couple we shouldn't have to SJB and Santa Margarita - along with the Servite loss (who we defeated 34-14 the year before). We ultimately lost the 3-way coin flip in the Serra league, missed the playoffs and began our 3 year string out of the postseason. Interestingly enough, we finished 3rd during both of these forgettable years (ahead of Loyola each time. In most leagues 3rd place makes the playoffs.. and we wouldn't have had the incessant "Amat out of the playoffs" talk - resulting in the climate of this blog at it's inception.

Thankfully we made the changes necessary and turned that around and are headed in the right direction.

Before this turns into another great debate I have to agree with COChargerfan ( don't faint COCF yes believe what you just read). I don't believe COBBC is really making an apples to apples comparison as far as strenght of schedule and so forth but only to the fact that CO has traditions of league and CIF titles and that they field competitive teams on a regular basis same as AMAT. The Edison,Los AL , LBP would be an apples to apples comparison . CO has their niche and we have ours but we are both sucessful. COCF don't keep going back to the past because to be fair you know it is not allowed by us so let's keep the playing field even and speak of present day events not what happened in 05. HA HA HA . Now as far as the DR comment you know the fans think they are great regardless of AMAT but that's just them. They still believe they will make the playoffs and mow you guys down for the championship. Time will tell on that.

COChargerfan said:

Hey overly sensitive and defensive Here we go again guy, Beep Beep saying that CO is the public school translation doesn’t mean their equal…do you suppose that the comparison could just mean what he actually says in the next sentence…two teams with “tradition and success?” Dude, you got broke out with the hives for nothing.

And, it is true that CO plays a different crowd than Amat, who said they don’t? But it also true that Amat hasn’t played Servite since 2005. And, that year the score was 37-5…playing someone and beating them are two different animals. Do you realize that the flip side of your argument is D’Ranch asserting that they are great just because they’ve played Amat the past few years? Works both ways…actually doesn’t work at all, does it?

Hopefully, Amat will get Servite again this year in the playoffs and turn around the score. Good luck Amat keep representing the SGV because we are all rooting for you but is it too much to ask that you honks just lead by example instead of from your egos?

Here we go again said:

"we at C.O. are the public school translation of Bishop Amat."

Edison, Mission Viejo, Los Alamitos, Long Beach Poly, etc. are the public school translation of Bishop Amat. All those guys play each other and other top tiered or ranked teams every single year. BA has played Alemany and St. Bonaventure this year and always has a very difficult schedule. Charter Oak has yet to schedule a team like the ones mentioned above. As a matter of fact, I do not think Coach Lou has ever played a team like this (Besides BA which did not go well). Please correct me if I'm wrong. And no, Ranch Cucamonga is not a Servite.

Comments like the one quoted above will always itch BA fans in the wrong way. Thats because for the past 30 years, BA has been competing against schools like Mater Dei, Edison, and Carson just to name a few. And then someone from a school like Charter Oak comes on here and has the audacity to say that they are "translations" of each other. This shows disrespect and disregards everything that BA has established and built in regards to San Gabriel Valley football over the past 3+ decades. BA fans take their football seriously. If you need proof of how serious, go to an Amat home game. It shocked that one reporter from KCAL that went to the Alemany game.

Beep Beep, we're on the same page…I apologize for the ignorant comment… I let JFR’s comment get to me. My comments on this blog are a wish list not criticism...I coached a lot of youth sports in my younger days and understand that bringing a team a long is a process but with that said, there are only two games left and then the real season starts...time is short so I, for one, am getting nervous. Now you see the colors of some of the Amat guys…NPD at its finest…welcome to the asylum. Hey Check urself mate, when did Edison, Mission Viejo, Fountain Valley, Los Alamitos, just to name a few schools, leave the public education system? And Edison is ranked #1…so there is a public school for the rest of the Pac-5 to look up to, including Amat…

Beep Beep, the thing that these Amat wise guys don’t consider is that some of the kids on CO’s and Amat’s teams are friends that played together in junior football…kids like Travis Santiago and Rio Ruiz. Hey Amat guys, do you think that Travis and Rio talk the “you suck” smack to each other? No way because they respect each other…so why as adults are you compelled to do it? If you truly suffer from the symptoms of NPD then I understand but, if you don’t, then why?

SGV BB…interesting that no one has mentioned Glendora’s baseball team. They had a good run last year and return a whole squad of seniors including one of the best pitchers in the area by the name of Adam Plutko. Side note is whether Wallace Gonzalez will bail out of Amat and return to Glendora so he doesn’t have to sit out his junior year of baseball, after all, he’s first and foremost a baseball kid.

I’m there every Friday night just like you. You probably hear us too. I sit in the stands and support our team and have no direct relationship with anyone on the team just like you but go to the games because I enjoy and have pride in our community. Once upon a time I did have a son in the program but that’s neither here nor there right now. I do wish he would go to more games with me though each week. Anyways, I would describe us as “fanatics” and that’s because yes I will admit I’ve drank the kool-aid.

My only point is why “air” publicly your displeasure when you could actually go and introduce yourself to the coaching staff and talk to them directly. I used to be like you and whine and complain but once I introduced myself to Big Lou and we had a civil conversation I was enlightened to how many tangibles and intangibles go into making our team successful.

For instance, this group hasn’t reached their potential and I bet each person in the program is working diligently to accomplish the awesome task of repeating as a C.I.F. Champion but there is so much that goes into making that a reality that I never considered until I developed a relationship with them. I too have talked to Mr. Allen and interestingly enough yes he has a different opinion sometimes but he also respects their philosophies and has told me he even likes many of their schemes.

Bottom line Big Lou isn’t an advocate of this blog nor what people like yourself represent and stand for so I'm just doing my part to represent in that we at C.O. are the public school translation of Bishop Amat. Our tradition and success speaks for itself and if your being sincere go introduce yourself and stop always projecting this image of being righteous because if you truly are then end this nonsense of being egocentric and do the right thing! Thanks for the vine, good luck on your independent endeavors. By the way, I’m an eternal optimist and always want the Clippers to be successful too!

to duartepopstar:

First off, If you're calling yourself "duarte Pop star" I highly doubt your a grandfather or even a father of someone who once attended this fine institution.

Secondly, instead of having wasted my time and all of the other bloggers who have or will respond to your posting, you could have saved all the hassel and gone on to the schools website and done a little bit of research for yourself. The following are direct quotes from the schols website:

"It is the policy of the school that all students take the required religion curriculum. In these classes, all students are graded on academic achievement and not on their religious affiliation, personal belief or the practice of their faith. All students are required to attend the general religious activities of the school although participation in worship services is not demanded of non-Catholic students."

"Please be aware that we place the following minimum expectations upon students who attend Amat. There is a mandatory meeting with parents of incoming students in the fall of the school year to discuss these points:"

"Respect for the religious beliefs of the Catholic Church, its moral principles and liturgical practices (respect does not imply adherence by those who are non-Catholic)."

If you knew anything about Bishop Amat besides their athletic programs ( as a suspect you don't) and especially if your child went there (as I suspect you dont) you would know that the schools administration is not to show Catholicism down non-catholics throats.

Ive sat through four years of religion classes at Amat, and trust me, its not just bible study/ or the teacher standing up there telling the students if you dont live in the catholic faith you will be condemned.

Most all of the classes and topics are open to discussion. Also, there is a lot of emphasis on the issues of social justice, worlds religions and moral dilemnas (i.e. abortion, captial punishment) and out weighing the pro's and con's of such, to help students formulate their own opinions on such matters. It is not simply the teachings of catholicism.

Acceptance into Bishop Amat High School is based solely on the academic/disciplinary record of the student, and their results on the enterance exam. It nowhere states that a student has to be catholic. It welcomes students from all beliefs, races, ethnicities, ect.

As for the letters of recommendation, they have never HAD to be from a priest or deacon. Since most Amat students come from a CATHOLIC or parochial elementary/middle schools, it was CUSTOMARY, NOT REQUIRED that ONE of the letters of recommendation came from clergy.

I personally went to a public JRHS, and my letters of recommendation came from the principle as well as teachers.

P.S. The breakdown of Catholics to non Catholics at Amat is 89% to 11 %.

I hope you read this, and finally shut up. And the next time you decide to open your mouth, how about you get informed and stop wasting everyone else's time.

JFR and Beep Beep…after a dismal 12 point effort, I comment about the coach's need to open up the offense BECAUSE the team has a bunch of talented players and this makes me disloyal and a J@ck@ss? Being a little overly sensitive, aren’t we? And JFR, the game plan is developed during practice so 5:40 pm is a little late, isn’t it? You guys must have missed D-Mo’s and Let’s go CO’s comments: “CO looks retarded on offense”, “Come on CO. You guys have the weapons. Open things up a little on O. It wasn't DR's defense that stopped you last night.” and “We better get our s#!t together”? Is this really more hatred from disloyal fans that don’t care about the program or is it really the frustrations of the real fans that just want and expect more?

Funny that you guys are such insiders but apparently never spoke with Mr. Allen, you know the former QB’s dad…for two years he complained to anyone and everyone about CO’s vanilla offense…never heard him? I guess that means that him and his son have also been kicked out of the family? And, if the coaches wouldn’t listen to Mr. Allen, why would they listen to anyone else? I’ll ask again, are you cats really that excited for the 12-point effort against that small, slow DR team?

Beep Beep…I’m curious as to what you mean by “the TRUTH behind what really exists within our team this year”…are you saying that it is void of any talent, too dumb to learn more sophisticated plays or lacks heart….or all of the above? Hmmm…isn’t this you knocking the players on the team?

Didn’t the team return Golden, Muema, Rufus, Powell, Smith, Youngblood and Dallen from last year’s title team? Wasn’t the team the talk of the town during the summer passing league? So, what is this “TRUTH” that is holding back the team?

It is what it is guys and it’s up to the coaches to fix so why don’t you stop blasting people for pointing out the OBVIOUS and get to work on the solution?

And Beep Beep, I have continually said that I don’t represent CO in any way, shape or form…do you have an official title or are you just a player’s parent? And, let me ask you the same question that you posed to me…who’s your kid? Going to run from the answer? And my beef isn’t with Amat as a school but, instead, with some of the Amat fans on this blog that completely disrespect the hard earned titles that teams like CO earned by belittling them with we’d rather lose in the PAC-5 than win a D7 title, CO Sucks and we’ll always be superior to you, wait until you get hammered next year and our coaching is superior to yours (they have said this over and over) kind of stuff…miss all that too?

Beep, on your statistics…only use the numbers from the games against the two teams that we’re going to have to play in league the next few years and then what do you get? Geez, do you really want to pad the averages with the numbers from the University and Diamond Bar games…if you do, you’re not only an insufferable homer but also just plain ignorant.

Stop making excuses or otherwise you’re just a Clipper fan.

If COChargerfan actually knew Big Lou, he'd understand the TRUTH behind what really exists within our team this year. I promise you he wouldn't be posting anything about C.O. let alone even be reading or writing on this blog period.

Bottom line, I appreciate and respect you JFR because unlike COChargerfan you actually care about and help our program. We both understand Big Lou well enough to realize COChargerfan is not part of the family and thank God for him Big Lou I guarantee you has never met him before. If they had a relationship, he wouldn't be posting on here and they would have already talked face to face but that would mean COChargerfan would have our team's best interest instead of spewing nonsense.

So I leave you with JFR keep fighting the good fight and as a disclaimer let it be known none of us know or consider COChargerfan a representation or reflection of the program. Sincere C.O. fans are happy for B.A. and want what's best for them and representing our Valley not to mention hope and pray our team can do they part and lead us to another championship in yes a weaker division.

If someone told me we would be 7-1 at this point of the season I would be extremely happy. How about too both C.O.'s offense and defense in different games has picked up the other one on a off night averaging almost 35 points a game on offense and less than 14 points on defense. Those statistics aren't that bad either.

So on that note, I present a joke to all of you in his honor. He whould have loved this one.

Obama note:

After a President has been in office for 6 months it is customary for the last President to send a note of congratulations to the new one.

So yesterday when the note came from Bush to Obama, the President
was somewhat troubled because it was written in a strange code and all it said was:

370H-SSV-0773H

This troubled him as he had always heard from his peers how former president Bush was perceived to have been “scholarly” challenged. So he took the note to his wife and she too was unable to decipher it.

They called in the VP, and he was unable to decode the message. They called in the chief of staff and the head of the Secret Service detail and they were unable to determine the meaning of the note.

Next he called in the head of the Senate and Speaker of the House. They also were both mystified by the meaning of the coded message.

Now there was complete panic in the oval office.

They called all of their contacts in the media and sent copies of the note to all of them, but not one was able to come up with an answer

A special emergency meeting was called by the staff. All branches of the military, counter intelligence, CIA, FBI were called in, and the best minds were unable crack the code.

After a sleepless night, a now humbled President picked up the phone and called the former president, and asked him the meaning of the note.

Bush chuckled and replied: 'Dude ............ .You're holding it upside down!'

"We were out at Bishop Amat Friday night and I must say, there is no greater venue to catch a high school football game than at Amat, at least that I've been to thus far. The atmosphere there is amazing. It has that small-town feel. As you make your way into Kiefer Stadium, you hear the PA announcer delivering the play by play over the loudspeaker. Once you step inside, it just takes your breath away. It was homecoming, so you can only imagine the atmosphere, with the alum and it being a packed house, but everyone that I talked to told me that its like that every home game.

The tailgaiting starts at around 4:30pm and restarts again once the game concludes. The Amat faithful go into the night, shutting everything down around 11pm. The concessions on game day are great. The In-N-Out Truck is out there. There's also kettle corn and funnel cake (my favorite, by the way).

Richard Lee and the rest of the chain crew, along with some of the parents and staff there were awesome!

If you haven't been out there, I suggest you check it out, its really cool. If you know of any other great venues to catch a game, please let me know. I'd love to attend.

By the way, Amat knocked off Alemany 36-14. The Lancers finished the nonleague portion of their season 7-0. Next week, they open Serra League play against Serra."
