Thanks to releaguing, don't expect Glendora-Damien in the near future; West Covina-South Hills still a possibility; Wilson-Los Altos a go

With releaguing for 2010-14 finalized last week, some of the area's biggest rivalries are in jeopardy. For instance, with Glendora going to the Baseline League and Damien remaining in the Sierra League, Spartans coach Greg Gano and Tartans coach Mark Pasquarella agreed that it's probably better not to schedule a nonleague game against each other, since both teams will still compete in the Central Division and could meet in the playoffs. "We're not fond of meeting teams in our own division," Pasquarella said. "It's a game the school will miss, but not one that I will miss because of my ties to Damien (where he once coached). But I know the community would like us to play, so you never close the door on it. It's still a possibility."

Since it was announced on Thursday that Glendora would move to the Baseline, which includes powers Los Osos, Rancho Cucamonga and Upland, Pasquarella has had mixed thoughts on the new league.

"From a football standpoint, no matter which league we were in, it was going to be tough," Pasquarella said. "But I think from an enrollment standpoint, it's not that fair. We're playing schools much larger than us. We have shown we can be competitive with some of those schools, but I don't know if that's the case on a year-by-year basis."

The Tartans have one game left to fill on next year's nonleague schedule, and would like to sign off on West Covina for Week 3, but the Bulldogs have to decide whether to
schedule rival South Hills.

Charter Oak is leaving the Miramonte and South Hills is leaving the San Antonio for the Sierra League.

Bulldogs coach Mike Maggiore is in favor of keeping South Hills on the schedule, and has let Huskies coach Steve Bogan know how he feels.

"It's up to them; I would like to keep it," Maggiore said. "You always want to continue to play quality teams, and they're one of the quality teams in our area.

"Plus, from a financial standpoint, and the fact that a lot of fans want to see it and get excited for it, it's a game that we should continue."

One of the area's longest rivalries, Wilson and Los Altos, who play annually for "The Wheel," will continue their rivalry, both coaches said.

Wilson is moving to the Valle Vista League after the season.

"It's a game the community really looks forward to," Wildcats coach Brian Zavala said. "I don't think you should take that from them."

Not sure why everyone thinks GOOD CALL is a Glendora fans when I'm clearly not...my response was to the Damien blogger who said Pasquerella was "afraid/smart" not to continue playing Damien after the big win when in fact Pasquerella owned Damien under Morrison. Now everyone knows Gano is head and shoulders over Morrison but to think Coach P would bail based off an upset win by a team that has laid down twice this year on their coaches...well that's baloney. What would scare Coach P...film form SJB and CH? Damien hopefully will win out and put a huge hurt on the remaining opponents but this team has shown two faces this year...the Amat.Glendora face and the SJB/CH face..why that is really bothers me but hey at least they ran their sprints better yesterday than any day since the season started. Ask yourself this question....how bad did they have to play to get beaten so badly twice this season...and why did they not respond in those games when the coaches obviously are top notch. Morrison's teams were beaten never laid down...they were just outcoached...this year the Spartans don't have that excuse and that my friend is bothersome on some level...don't you agree?

Either way I'm 100 % behind this current staff and last Friday showed everyone why...Glendora doesn't get shut out...and did! All BS aside if you've gone to practices...Aren't Gano and his staff pretty special....last week it was Tre fielding a ball and running for a "TD" and yesterday it was Coach Merill dropping that pretty pas in the trash can....

I seen a Los ltos practice when they had Casteneda and we had Mendrun and as I said at the time...Gano runs a great practie and Fair is amazing!"...who knw they would some wear Green and Gold?

Best of luck against Ayala..I'll be up north visiting my son "just to give him a hug"...God I miss that kid. Huge game for the Seniors to put their mark on the Gano Era...I hope it's 35-14 Damien ...Homecoming right?

Good Call,
You should be worried if you are a Glendora fan. Instead of making excuses, you should be thinking of ways to make your team better. You are
playing a very good Chino Hills team that has a league championship on their mind. If you lose to C.H. this week, you have a three must wins to reach the playoffs. Damien is in a similar situation, but we were never suppose to beat you remember. Pasqueys record against Damien was mostly against Morrison lead teams. Gano is not Morrison, you know that already don't you. Damien is thinking playoffs & one win at a time.

Damien has a huge game this week. Ayala is a scoring machine while Damien's defense is coming along now that Manley has found his mojo again. One player who doesn't get enough attention but is part of Damien Class of 10 that had so much promise early on is Lewis. Kid is an all around two sport athlete who does anything you ask of him. Still waiting for Dominguez to have his break out game but that will come soon as Guillen and Damien look to put big points on the board and match the defense's intensity. Damien's seniors have always been the lynch pin to the Spartans success and hopefully they see themselves going deep into the playoff before it's all over.

Gano and staff have been masterful in handling a difficult transition and made all the right moves week in and week out...let's see what they come up with is week.

Good Call,
Great typical Glendora response…everyone just wants to be from Glendora. Keep instilling that sentiment in your under achieving children it works well for you guys. The in bread nature of the residences and the teaching community is your down fall. Keep pretending that you care about each others kids as you stab them in the back, standard operating procedure.

FYI Damien people sit on the Glendora side because watching you try to keep your hypocritical cliques in order is entertaining to say the least.

Good call,
I don't think it matters to anyone at Damien that Pasquerella had a winning record agaisnt them in the past, it's what we are looking at now and the future of the program that matters, after-all that's part of the reason why we have a new head-coach, don't know about the two dropped passes, both happened in the same drive and on one of them James Ramirez put a great hit on the wideout. If this, if that, if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle (no excuses)none of that matters. The end result was 21-0 Spartans. We would love to play them every-year, it's great for the kids period.

Please tell Glendora and Head Coach Pasquerella that if Charter Oak is not in their division next year will he reconsider his choice of not play them because there are just far too many positives between the rivalry and money generated from the gate that works in both schools favors. Remember Charter Oak and Head Coach Farrar said yes publicly in the newspaper they wanted to continue the game and until Glendora plays them again the Mayor's trophy is on display in Charter Oak's district office. Let's go gentlemen, give the communities what they want and that's a good old-fashioned traditional rival game between two quality programs.

You play teams in your division for common opponents and rankings in the playoffs. If they are good, it also helps strength of schedule.

Footballfan that must be it considering Pasquerella is only 5-2 against the Spartans and is actually the last SGV Coach to beat Bishop Amat. This rivalry game is what it is, friends playing friends and neighbors playing neigbors. That's why you can go to a Damien~Glendora basketball games and see current Damien students and Damien parents and Alumni on Glendora's side. Funny but I don't see any Glendora faithful on Damien's side...why is that?

Gano and Pasquerella have it right..why play your playoff rivals in preseason when there are plenty of other teams out there.

So Footballfan, slow your roll there. Glendora dropped two TD passes in the second half and both times the receivers were wide open. Great win for Damien though and I especially liked the toughness they showed to keep the shutout down the stretch....for those that will miss the GHS~DHS rivalry all I can say is...you should have taken care of business when you had the chance...especiallly against The Great Le Duc.

I'm just glad with Gano in charge I don't have to have nightmares of Damien's collapse when all you would hear was "Benny Rodriguez.....FIRST DOWN!!!!"...REMEMBER THAT GAME????

To Shreimen and Nelson...LA vs Wilson is much bigger than one small incident and a few Idi@t parents!

I wonder if what happened last Friday night has anything to do with Pasquerella not wanting to play Damien, you think he got a dose of what's coming in the near future ? Damien out-played Glendora from start to finish, they should consider themselves lucky it was only 21-0
