Tribskin Pick'em, your predictions and ours
Steve and I will go head-to-head throughout the season. Here is our updated records on the Tribskin Pick'em thread.
![]()
Robledo: Last week/Total: 14-3/112-35
Ramirez: Last week/Total: 12-5/103-44
Last Week: Steve and I missed on the same three games, taking Glendora over Damien, Los Altos over Bonita and drumroll....Northview over Ganesha. Let me type that again, Northview over Ganesha? When you think of tough Northview was last year, it's amazing to think they would lose to Ganesha a year later. I picked up two games on Steve because he was foolish enough to take Pomona over Baldwin Park and El Monte over South El Monte.
This week: There are four games I want to point out, first, Bishop Amat is almost in a must win in the Serra opener. With two of three at home, they do not want to wait to the season finale at home against Notre Dame, who has owned them since moving to the Serra, to clinch a playoff berth. Loyola is also the easiest of the three Serra teams, so take care of business now. With Glendora losing Andre Holmes to a knee injury, this could seriously dampen their playoff hopes. I'm taking Chino Hills at home over the Tartans, who will likely have to beat Ayala later to reach the postseason. If Michael Ball had been healthy, I might have changed plans and took the Raiders over West Covina, but not now. There is just no way they're going to win without Ball on the field. I'm also taking Damien over Ayala. Think of it, if the Spartans win, all they have to do is beat Diamond Bar and Chino the final two weeks to finish .500, and with it a second place finish in the Sierra.

COChargerfan - Yes I've seen and read your comments on wanting the CO coaches to open up and release the offense. I feel you buddy, in your frustration, but it is too late for damage control after the fact. Unlike DRanchhhh on the CO sidelines hearing the frustration and foul language of those CO coaches, I was not too far from the announcement booth where I could hear the foul language from the CO coaches up on top. Especially when the CO offense couldn't perform against a highly motivated DR Defense. You keep asking the silly question of how many first downs. the quantity of first downs are irrelevant. I've seen many losing teams get more first downs than the winning team. How many times did DR put a stop to CO's drives? How many times did CO have to settle for a field goal? How many field goals did they get? How many times was CO's running back stuffed behind the line or at the line. So much for a team that should have steamrolled. As you said - either our replacement players are pretty good or CO's offense played awful. The way the game went it seems apparent that both parts are true. Very embarrasing if you ask me. It coincides with my comment on CO's playing in one of my earlier posts and is the same comment I mentioned about CO's playing after the CO/Gardena game. You can remember that can't you. It must still be rolling around in your mind. I'll give you a hint it starts with a P and ends with athetic. That reminds me, I saw CO play twice, OMG and they looked and played the same both times. Once with the star performer and once without. No difference except Gardena did score. CO didn't play conservative, they played all out, they had to. So did DR's defense, it just made CO look like they were conservative. The CO offense couldn't get much of anything done. Coaches don't yell and scream with anger if everything is going like clock work. There were no excuses for the loss DR suffered, just a lot of praise for an outstanding performance by the DR defense and all those replacements in keeping CO to it's lowest score of the season. I too would like to see them play again with both teams at full potential (CO with it's star player and DR with the other half of it's missing players), I believe the result will be reversed, the score that is, not the play on DR's side of the ball. Till the teams meet again.
Wow we got a Bill Belichick in high school football...
Durward I get what you are saying about the guys up front. Haven't been able to get that surge and holes that they need to make in order to allow our backs to hit the holes. As far as #12 is concerned he has all of the tools but it seems we haven't had the guys up front. LA was the first game since BP and the second half of the Claremont game where they gave the either QB the protection and time needed to make plays by comparison the rest of the games they have played this season. Defensive line has always been undersized but as a hole the defense has been able to get turnovers.
It also seems according to other people Highley is out this week which hurts because he just did really well against LA. However if the offensive line is able to play like they did against LA if not better than I suspect Pendleton will have the time to make plays with his arm. And I hope after watching Highley these last two weeks he'll know what to do when the play breaks down. It's always unsung glory for the guys up front. Thanks Durward, I appreciate your take as well.
Now where is Basic?
GO BEARCATS, keep it going boys!
DRanchhhh...I ask the question...how many first downs did DR have??? Listen, I didn't say that CO felt pity so they didn't try to score just that they called a very, very conservative game maybe to avoid any turnovers or maybe they thought that they could just steamroll your line. With that said...either your replacement players are pretty good or CO's offense played awful. Heck, if I were you, I wouldn't be making excuses and, instead, would be excited about those replacements...something to think about.
And tons of talent...that is exactly what I'm also wondering...football isn't rocket science, so are us non-rocket scientists missing something?
Durward,
Way to turn the tables, I believe Panther Fan used that introduction a few post's down. Also you guys can go film the practice, it will not make a difference. Scouting this, scouting that, you guys had the same opportunity against Sd and couldnt pull it off!! So you will indeed need the information provided. Just dont be surprised if it is the exact opposite of what you guys expected!!
First, on behalf of Coach Layton and his staff, thanks to all here for the fine scouting/injury report you provided. It's a great help in planning Friday's game strategy.
Aaron, you are obviously a rabid Bonita fan and love your alma mater and I honor you for that but sometimes your takes are those of a casual fan rather than somebody who has actually played. The game isn't about the QB, or the receivers or the running backs, it's about the guys up front. Always has been, always will be. Problem with the BoHi O this year has been primarily with those guys and their inability to protect the QB for more than a couple beats and to provide a surge on running plays off the edge. The dive/belly plays inside have worked ok because the quickness of Holmes and Calvin; the zone blocking schemes don't need much more than a chip. Outside the tackles, not so red hot. Really sad because #58, #52, and #64 are some of the best football players Bonita has fielded in the last ten years.
(From yesterday): “First pump fake”? Hard to pump fake or anything else when your receivers are only two steps off the line and the D is already forcing your hand. Given a pocket, #12 has the tools to be a good HS pocket passer. The problem from day one is that he rarely had one to operate in, much less get the ball into the hands of many of the “difference makers” on offense. #14 is a little faster, a little stronger, and a pretty tough runner when going downhill, (remember the Int run-back against Westview?). He was inserted into the offense to reduce the need for that pocket and hopefully open up defenses.
I got to admit who ever is the OC at CO isn't doing anyone any favors. Rufus, Golden, Powell, Adam M...that's quite the line up considering all four will play somewhere on Saturdays.
I like what Amat does by putting their talent in open space. CO should do the same. CO's offense is going good enough to win but you still hav eto wonder why it took so long to figure out the QB situation.
Maybe COCF is on to something. Thta's allot of speed and it's speed with size and stenght.
Golden and Adam M. should always be on the field together...any one know more details as my opinion is probably skewed.
COChargerFan- One word- OVERRATED.
Your trying to say that Lou Farrar coached his team down against us so that they could score less points because he knew that we had injuries?? Your saying that CO's starters had sympathy on us?? your saying that I didnt hear 2 of your assistant's on your sideline say we are playing like sh*t against a JV DR Team?? Dude let it go, your stating opinion and not facts and your making an Anal Canal of yourself!!
Bearcat nation-
We are looking forward to great game with Bonita. I see that you guys are boasting a lot and that is fine. We are 1-6 with the majority of our losses with the exception of BA coming within points.
Loss to CH- 2 pts
Loss to Gle- 2 points
Loss to COL- 5 points
Loss to CO-12 points
Loss to LE 12 points
Do you wan the current records of those teams
Colony- 6-1
CH 6-1
LE 5-2
CO 6-1
BA 7-0
Glen 4-3
Dude you guys will have your hands full. I think Bonita is equally matched based on our talent and your coaching. And yes we are banged up but there is no excuse. A loss is a loss. Bonita, good luck and we will enjoy puttin in the necessary work on Glenn Davis Turf...
Also, is it just me or is HS football EAST of the 605 really boring this year. Its lacking the intensity of last year. BA (which I h8 to admit) is the only team stepping up to the plate with excitng games this year?
Panther Fan, as you've read I would like to see CO's coaches open up their offense...for the future battles (maybe against DR)...but it wasn't a necessity against the team that you guys fielded last Friday. Don't you think that the CO coaches were aware that you were missing players and do you suppose they might have thought that unless they turned the ball over a bunch of times, there was pretty much no way that DR was going to beat them? How many first downs did your team get...4 or 5? Scores can be misleading sometimes as coaches are only interested in a win.
How's your injured player doing? I hope that he's recovering.
ur right a lot of people in La Verne only know what the paper says we are a good team and KC being back will be nice to have back since were realy hurting at LB and ur right about our fans but just so u know flickenger doesnt play dfense just tight end they need to start acting like fans cause plain and simple are fans suck they never make noise well be lucky to have 100 people in our stands this week and chances are they wont even care bout the game
its stupid 2 list all those injuuries but DRanch should know about all those injuries since they all happened a while ago except for the qb who it seems everyone already knew about and the lineman who didnt play the second half so youve got 2 assume they know he was hurt
WC is not that good, and Rowland lost ther star player in M. Ball. It should be a good game, SH looks like they are going to run away with the league title........ and prolly choke in CIF
You suck. The Bias on here seems limitless. When are you going to dome up bogan maggorie gano farrar and Hagerty. ?? When? Can you put it up on youtube? Your sexuality has been in suspect since you took this blog over.
where banged up. but in two weeks or maybe three the bearcats will be at full strength
and will win the cif championship.we have a relly good team,
am i the only one in this city to see the talent on this team.
most of the la verne home owners only see what they read in the saturday paper 2 wins and 5 loses .
but do they know are jr lb and part time fullback are out, then caseys hurt, the other lb plus two qb are banged up/
but wait bearcat paper fans
. all the boys are getting heathly my boy k.c. is going to get 90 tackle in 6 games, thats how pumped he is..i hope we get c.o or santa fe right off the bat .santa fe killed us with the qb running out side all night long put big flickenger on the outside end and hairmen on the other side and tell the two giants to stay home nobody gose outside of you inside only straight to k.c.huth and casey horian and stop blitzing every play let the lb play lb stay back in there zone .let them read the plays.. my boys played lb for 7 years now .cant stand watchimg him shoot right by the play because he blitzing every play. am getting pumped up bearcat fans..this city go to a bearcat game like there watching a death band play..ill say this fans if we really get into the last three games are boys will raise to the top
Pendleton should be good to go from what I know, he was suited to play for last week. So I only know of Highley being out, and if both are out, time for Greg Spathias to step up.
Evan Highley before he started at QB was: K/P/S/TE, so playing him at QB took away his threat as a S/TE.
However it is a very hard task that is ahead for the Bearcats.
But it's about belief and strength of will. Bearcats, just believe, practice hard, go out there on Friday and show us all what you got.
GO BEARCATS!
Bearcat fan thanks for the intelligence report (loose lips sink ships). Custer, Bonita had all their talent against CO. DR accomplished more than twice as much with half of their talent. The coaching comes in where?
Three linbackers, two quarterbacks, two wide outs, your punter, one running back, and your kicker are all out. Can you please tell me how you are going to win?
Hey Panther Fan... I'll tell you how.. One word...COACHING. Podley is the master of making chicken salad from chicken s%#t. If he had a fraction of the talent at DR they would be undefeated.
u said ur missing half ur team lets go thru bonitas starters that are injured
Eric Mikity starting LB
KC Huth starting LB
Casey Horine starting LB and starting WR
Cody Mckenzie Starting Guard and Starting LB
Even Highley starting Qb
so dont say were not missing anyone we were missing our top 4 linebackers
and Bonita Still does have a chance to win Bonita beat DRanch last year this is going to be a fight and what its going to come down to is who wants it more and Bonitas only QB injutred is Evan
SGV - It's obvious the guy has some type of axe to grind because his boys aren't getting any love in the rankings...I think it would be best if we just let that one fester in his pride. Anytime st john bozo wants to rumble, we'll be here.
CIFSS should institue a rule that once you play for your high school team you can no longer transfer the same year to another team. The article written about qb Legarde was interesting since this was the athlete's 3rd school in 2 years. Now the prior starting qb at Los Al has quit the team after being demoted. LBP coach Lara was smart enough not to say anything since the jackrabbits live off transfers.
Los Al is smart enough to make sure the paper work was proper and according to the article Legarde now lives with his mom who just happens to live in the Los Al district. Los Al has a long history of getting quality transfers into their program. Coaches make promises to these athletes that if they transfer they will start. Same thing happened at Westlake high school when the qb at Oaks Christian transferred to Westlake after Nick Montana joined OCHS. The starter at Westlake than transferred out to another school.
How many is a few...less than a handfull. 8 guys is a lot especially when they are starters and some start both ways.
And shouldn't you expect a fan to be delusional. To believe in their team no matter what. Because being a fan is not rational at all when you think about it.
You tell me, when all of your linebackers are now out and your QB that just won a huge game for you is out if that is delusional.
I'm wondering what I'm going to see on Friday from both teams. I want the Bearcats to heal as fast as possible...because Panther Fan, I know the Bearcats can lose this game but all of us up here nestled up in the foothills want them to win ad believe they can win.
Here's a quote on Adversity:
If I had a formula for bypassing trouble, I would not pass it round. Trouble creates a capacity to handle it. I don't embrace trouble; that's as bad as treating it as an enemy. But I do say meet it as a friend, for you'll see a lot of it and had better be on speaking terms with it. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes
GO BEARCATS!!!
I knew it, it is a dilusional thing. Trying to compare a couple of missing players to missing half a team. COChargerfan was trying to make the same kind of comparison, one top performer who didn't play. DR didn't score but they held CO to the least amount of points this season so far, that includes RC who beat CO. The game will be exciting to watch never the less. At the high school level, everything and anything can happen at any time and that is what makes it exciting to watch. Good luck to both teams.
Wow Happyrock over Workman no way..Workman has been rolling teams, only had one bad game against LP. And a 1pt loss to montclair were they missed 3 field goals..Workman ran all over Sierra Vista..Ive seen happyrock play twice they will have no answer for 5 Bradford. And yes he's healthy and if he isn't they can't stop 3 Silva or 12 Cambaros. I think Workman rolls by at least 3tds or More. 42-21..And that 21 will come after the starters go to the bench. LOL..
WC is not that good, and Rowland lost ther star player in M. Ball. It should be a good game, SH looks like they are going to run away with the league title........ and prolly choke in CIF
Bonita has a bunch of guys out as well. You may not know that, but I though I'd let you know. The defense overall is better than last season's. Yeah that loss to CO hurts, but you guys didn't put up any points either so I don't think that matters all too much.
Expect the game to be hard fought. However Bearcats in a close one to keep the season turnaround going.
I don't see how anyone from Bonita could think they can win against DR (it must be some dilusional thing). DR did a phenomenal job against CO with half a team, half the players being 2nd string. Yes they did lose, but it is what they accomplished with what they had to work with. DR had one TD called back by penalty and were one 'on target' pass away from scoring another. That game could have easily gone in DR's favor but it didn't happen. Both teams had things go wrong as happens in any given game. Bonita lost to CO 31-0 with a full team. Bonita also did what it could with what it had and it showed in the score. Calpreps has DR over Bonita 20-12, a very conservative score. I'm looking forward to a little higher score for DR and a little lower for Bonita. Home field advantage means squat. DR shut out Bonita 31-0 two years ago on Bonita's home field. Thats a whooping.
I heard that Highley may also be out this week. Now they have lost their two quaterbacks and a running back two starting linebackers. Do they have a third QB?
Yes WORKMAN. GLADSTONE! STEVE & FRED HAVE SPOKEN! YOU'LL BE PLAYING IN OUR HOUSE!
injuries really are hurting bonita this week there missing lineman, linebackers, and their quarterback like d-ranch said this is the real test this is the biggest game for both teams for the rest of the season whoever wins this game is the number 2 team while the other is the number 3 i think bonita squeaks by with a victory
go bearcats
Actually it doesn't Brave Dad...Amat played their usual game while Damien laid down and rolled over for SJB yet played inspired against Amat...go figure.
Hey Amat honks please go defend your team and the league you play in.
I am quoting a post on the la times blog: Follow the link.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/varsitytimesinsider/2009/10/football-new-rankings-2.html
"I agree with blng_blng. I've even refrained from opstnig to the blog because I feel the ranknigs are horrible and based on past seasons and history - there is no science that goes into these polls at all.
One very easy and obvious indicator cuold be common opponents. Using common opponents wuold mean that st. John Bosco shuold have some shot at being ranked. Amat has beat a a team that Bosco lost to, St. Bonnie, granted. But, there have been other common opponents that amat has squeked by adn that Bosco has straight up slaughtered. Just goes to show Bolch does not put much thought into this; it's also and indicator that the Trinity is still a top 2 or 3 league ni the SS and the Sierra League is overrated. (Everyone knows, at least those who've seen both programs play, that Bosco's loss to Loyola was a fluke - so don;t even go there.)
Posted by: BraveDad | October 26, 2009 at 12:58 PM"
Is it true that West Covina has 2900 students and teams like Los Altos 1900? What are they doing in the same league come '10?
Claremont should be in the Baseline and Glendora in the Sierra just because of where they are. Any other rational is a bad joke.
This leaguing and re-leaguing is worse than state and federal re-districting and just, if not more, harmful.
Transfers, for any reason other than a family actually moving from one school district to another, should be banned. In the case of re-locating, athletes should be immediately eligible.
What is all the fuss over Los Altos and transfers? Aren't they bad enough even with the players they have? Are you so vindictive you want to deny them a token win or two? HLPUSD schools are open enrollment campuses per their literature. If LA is so favored why are their sports facilities so poor compared to the other district schools? HLPUSD is the problem, not LA.
Big game for the Saints of San Dimas.
2 of next 3 games will be tough but I predict the Saints will win all 3.
To Aaron
Ok so you beat L.A. Big deal. Your real test is coming this week. You could not move the ball against C.O and you will have trouble moving it against Our defense. I wish you luck but I understand that you are without a few key starters( your QB, Running back and linebacker)We are getting healthy and are ready once again to start our playoff push.
West Covina has unfinished business with Rowland from last year and will win this Friday...every game the Bulldogs have gotten better and Ili is not injured like last year. The boys have come together and are ready to play hard together...
B.Amat 28, Oaks Christian 24 =)
B.Amat 24, Loyola 14 =)
B.Amat 31, Crespi 28 =)
B. Amat 27, SO Notre Dame 28 ;(
Fred and Steve,
Come on guys you know that you want to pick the Bearcats, so pick them. Giving Diamond Ranch too much credit. So I'm guessing I'll see one of you two running around on the field at Glenn Davis come Friday!
Just because they got lucky last week and lost by 7pts in a RIVALRY game you think they are going to beat Workman??? Gladstone barely beat Sierra Vista 20-14 and Workman waxed that same SV team by like 40pts when the starters were in, and they barely beat a garbage El Monte team 10-7. Workman had one bad game against LP when they were missing 3 starters and just played a bad game overal. You are wrong on this one! Workman wins by atleast 2 TD's
My prediction. Mtn. View to winless this season and perhaps be the worst team in the SGV this year and maybe even ever.
Haha. As we can see freds a little but hurt over the comments made over the blog yesterday. Come on fred choose with your mind not your heart. You're a joke fred. A joke. and I'm saying this laughingly cause i cannot believe how big of a joke you are. A Joke
Read this article; it's pretty interesting, it discusses the transfer of a varsity QB that was playing for poly then played for Los Alamitos this last week. Thats the difference between the pac 5 teams that know how to handle transfers and schools in the SGV that are not accustomed to transfers. What Raul Lara did is genious. Only if duarte adminstration would have done the same. There is no reason why school administration should stand in the way of a student athlete transfering to a different school.

BP 09'... we got this!
Oh really now, where's this coming from...and Bonita has this at home. Oh well you miss some and you lose some.
Fred
Rowland will beat West Covina 28-14 West Covina can never win a big game.
