Central Division predictions: It's going to be Rancho Cucamonga again, beating surprise finalist Damien in the finals; Glendora out in round 1

| | Comments (20) |

Note: Pac-5 Division on Tuesday.

Fred's explanation: I'm going to take a lot of slack for this and will hear all the homer protesters, but why not a Damien-Rancho Cucamonga rematch in the championship? From 1-16, this is a wide open division, so I look at the matchups. Damien will have its hands full in the first round, but if they get past Upland, facing Colony and potentially Elsinore, Etiwanda or Chino Hills down the line are all winnable games. I look at how well teams are playing now, not in September, and the Spartans have allowed just ten points in their final four wins. Glendora has an awful matchup, Rancho Cucamonga is still the best team in the division, despite two losses, one by three points, the other in overtime. I would have liked Glendora's chances with a healthy Andre Holmes, but to get Rancho followed by the top seed is a lot to ask, which is why I have their season ending early.

Central Division Predictions
Top Seeds: 1. Colton (9-1), 2. Colony (9-1), 3. Elinore (8-2), 4. Los Osos (6-4).
Unseeded Sleepers: Glendora, Damien, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland.

Central Division:
Top Bracket

Don Lugo 6-4 (Mt. Baldy 3) at No. 1 Colton 9-1 (San Andreas 1)
Rancho Cucamonga 8-2 (Baseline 3) at Glendora 7-3 (Sierra 2)
Chaffey 6-4 (Mt. Baldy 2) at West Valley 6-4 (Sunbelt 2)
Arroyo Valley 7-3 (San Andreas 3) at No. 4 Los Osos 6-4 (Baseline 1)
Bottom Bracket
Chino Hills 8-2 (Sierra 3) at No. 4 Elsinore 8-2 (Sunbelt 1)
Cajon 7-3 (San Andreas 2) at 7-3 Etiwanda (Baseline 2)
Upland 8-2 (Baseline at-large) at Damien 5-5 (Sierra 1)
Paloma Valley 6-4 (Sunbelt 3) at No. 2 Colony 9-1 (Mt. Baldy 1)

Great year Spartans!!!

I will be there cheering you on.

I know coach is focused on this game and this game only.

All this talk about championships are just a ploy for distraction.

Just keep working and we will hope for the best.

You have all lost your collective minds if you are counting Los Osos out of this scenario? Rancho needs to stay focused on a very good Colton team because they (RC) have definately been reading alot of their own-old- clippings lately and Damien needs to get by two very good teams in Upland and Colony to even dream of seeing the finals. Osos will be there at the end because they are a good football team with an even better bracket draw. Whoever ends up in the finals, THE GRIZZLIES will be waiting on the other sideline...waiting for ya!!! Go Grizzlies!!

fred,
although damien is riding a 4 game win streak coming into playoffs, they were playing sierra league teams who had not gained momentum yet (Glendora), who lost momentum due to a faulty non-league schedule (Ayala), and who couldn't even spell momentum (Chino and Diamond Bar). Remember, Gano's first league game was a not such a pleasant welcoming, losing to Chino Hills (38-6) at home! Damien did play one of the toughest non-league schedules, but there are other teams from the Sierra League (Chino Hills) who are more deserving of such playoff speculation.

Sorry Rhodes my bad. I meant to say after we beat Upland in the semi's we will face another baseline team in the finals, Rancho. And Rhodes, next time you stop by my taco stand, pick up your purse at the lost and found.

Go Huskies!

Spartan Dad...I can not tell you how long I've waited to hear those words and actually believe them.

"hard nosed Damien Football...everyone is 110% behind you"....music to my ears.

I said this early on and it bears repeating if for no other reason than I love to be right...just kidding...

"the true test for Damien will be how will the Spartans react when Gano and Co. ask them to "GO WITH THEM"...will they respond or will they fold"

I agree...the Spartans have responded to this very question put to them so succinctly by Gano himself....

"are you contenders or are you pretenders"...143-10 since!!!!

WE HAVE OUR LEONIDAS!!!!

We will be ready on Friday, we will play hard and leave it all on the field, and we will play hard-nose Damien football. That's how our kids hav been playing the last four weeks and we will show everyone that Damien comes to play. Great job this year boys, and please know that all of Sparta is behind you 110 percent....

Go Spantans

Red Baron: Nice prediction...how can they be in the final when they are in the same bracket. Stick to trying to make a go of it with your taco stand in Chino than making predictions.

Good pick Fred, Watson is healthy and will play Friday, our only losses came when we went away from the spread we stay with that and no one can keep up with our athletes nobody we've seen is better than CO if we could beat them we can beat anyone, We just have to go BACK to what works, no hype even GIANTS stumble once in a while.....GO COUGARS!!!

Injuries will plague many of the teams in the playoffs. That being said, Chino Hills will go through and meet Colony for a 2nd time. Colony beat Chino Hills with a riddled team. Chino Hills is healthy now and will come back to upset Colony's hopes.

It will be Upland and Chino Hills in the finals.

It's just a game said:

Hey Cal Preps,

Who's your team? Upland? What's YOUR prediction?

By the way it was Upland - 21, Damien - 13 so get your facts right before you start spouting off. You know what they say about short term memory loss......

Cal Preps said:

Cal Preps Projection

Upland 21
Damien 12

Spartans suck, get OVER IT!

I'll meet you at the bank - and laugh when we take you for a ride Friday night! Feel free to walk on cocky, it will get you a loss. Look at the 3 teams we both played (Claremont, Glendora and Rancho)...both lost to Rancho, but we slaughtered the other two (24 - 0 and 21 - 0 respectively)- and for UHS they were competitive games. Hmmmm.... Maybe the Highlanders are not the team they have been in past years...... We'll see on Friday - can't wait!
SPARTA LIVES!!!!!!!!

Not sure how Glendora will fair w/o Andre Holmes.. He truly was the straw that stirs the drink.. Glendora's defense is a good bunch, but the offense just never seems to do more than one thing well whether it be when Holmes was carrying the load or Jeffries completing passes.. One of their more complete games came earlier in the year against D-Ranch of all people and that one had to be won in the final second.. Wouldn't put it past Pasquy or these resilient kids to keep it close, but I think the size disparity will play itself out at some point..

Good job Damien! Now it starts all over again!

Damien get smacked in the first Round by Upland.

Rancho is not the team that "They" think they are. They have been exposed several times this year and mark my words, they do not win the finals, IF they get there. Smoke and mirrors and last years rep is all they got. QB is slightly above average. Don't believe the Hype!

JFR said:

Rancho's QB got knocked out against Etiwanda and is a big reason why they lost. Without him Rancho isn't Rancho so if he's sidelined I'd take the Tartans.
