Girls Volleyball: It's on! Los Altos, Bonita advance to finals, will meet in Division 3AA championship
Division 3AA Semifnals
Los Altos def. Warren 25-22, 25-19, 25-18
Bonita def. Palm Springs 25-15, 25-14, , 25-16.
I know this is a rivalry and things tend to get personal, but please think before you send, this is a good time for these teams, these schools, let them enjoy it by keeping the banter fun and spirited.

Los Altos players celebrate after advancing to the finals for the first
time since 1977.
CIF-Southern Section
Tuesday's semifinals
Division 3AA
Los Altos def. Warren, 25-22, 25-19, 25-18 - Jazmen Russell had 11 kills and Meagan Macias nine and the Conquerors advanced to the Division 3AA finals to face rival Bonita. Los Altos will be playing for its first divisional title. The Conquerors were runner up in 1975 and '77.
Jazmen Russell: "When we lost to Bonita (on Oct. 27), it made us want to keep winning and play them again in the CIF finals. We want to beat them in the finals. We've been working hard ever since."
Susanna Beliakoff: This is such a great accomplishment for us. We worked really, really hard this whole time. Getting this far is a blessing for us. It's a team effort, and that's what makes it special."
Coach Jaime Ornelas: It's expected to be point for point at this level (of the playoffs). I put in a few subs to get my bigger servers in there. They did fabulous.
"(Popoff) was amazing. My bench did a lot for me. They came in and did what we needed."

Bonita players celebrate after advancing to the CIF-SS finals.
Bonita def. Palm Springs, 25-15, 25-14, 25-16 - Allie LaPierre had 16 kills and Katie Kirby 11 to lead the Bearcats. Bonita, which was in the semifinals for the second time in three years, is in the finals for the first time.
Allie LaPierre: I am just so excited. We made history. We just wanted to stay focused and play each point like it was 0-0."
Katie Kirby: "Tonight was revenge for two years ago,"
Coach Adriana Contreras: "I'm just so absolutely proud. We did a great job covering balls and we spread the ball around. Everyone played a role tonight."

ummmm parents get a life
if you have enough time on ur hands to put down high school girl volleyball players then obviously your pretty pathetic
this is not pro sports its high school get a hold of yourselves
embarressing
anyways Go Ashley Maxdfelt 12 best volleyball player/setter in the area hands down
people get over yourself . we worked hard to get here. Just be proud of us. Who is actually playing the game? Parents vs. Parents . the game is LA vs. Bonita so just be proud and happy that were both here and are gonna fight for the rings. Lets have fun girls and see who the real team is!!!!!
Didn't the current Bonita coach went to St. Lucy to interview for the head coaching job and then turned it down? She really made a good choice and turned Bonita program around in just her 2nd year. She must be the best volleyball coach in Bonita history!!
One person's untopia is another person's welfare check. How else do you think the world operates? Exceptional people take care of those less fortunate. Kathy that was a great post. Too bad the cynical always put down the doers...or in this case...the "dreamers" as someone called you. Tough looking at the world through "their" eyes...I'd rather live my live striving for a utopian existence and never reach it than to give up on a utopian effort and become par of the sheep herd.
Wow! A tear just rolled down my face. That was beautiful!
kum ba yah my Lord, kum ba yah. Everybody...
Well put Kathy Brown, and for the most part that is what bloggers here do. A little too utopian though, in my opinion.
I am surprised by the simplistic and petty comments posted here.
As the parents of these girls we are fortunate to live within the Southern California volleyball community, where the skills are extremely high, and the high school and club rosters frequently cross over.
During a match many of these girls will engage in strong, smart, fierce competition, but later extend a congratulatory hug to the victor, and then go on to play 7 months of club together. These experiences help them get along in the Real World, where, as adults influenced by their high school sport experiences, they'll cooperatively live in neighborhoods, work, shop, and raise future generations together.
The intended by-product of high school competition is to learn how to honorably apply oneself in an activity (team volleyball) so that it can be replicated onto another activity (profession, family, community life).
So let's let the competition knit us together instead of breeding comtempt and ill-will against one another.
Which beach cities are you referring to vball? I don't know of any beach cities that play div. 3. I have seen both play and neither LA nor Bonita could hang with those teams. Both of these teams were not even top ranked in the valley, but lets be happy with what we have in our little part of the world.
What did I say that was so negative vball? The only time I have said anything against Los Altos is when their fans write negatively about other teams (the whole St. Lucy's stuff is too much). All I'm saying if that Bonita should have the edge, Los Altos could obviously win.
Also, Bonita's coach is a Garey graduate so PTown has to root a little more for Bonita!
I really could care less who wins this game, obviously this shows we have two quality teams in the area.
Congrats to Los Altos and Bonita.
Ghigh....
What happened to you positive comments....
I guess you are bitter at your loss... or something....
But this is not like you... Any team that went this far should receive CREDIT... You are a COACH not a parent.
I know for a fact you have not seen LA play... yet you tend to ride the wave of negative comments towards LA.
Both teams are Solid, and they are the only two left in the valley.. SO CONGRATS TO BOTH, AND PLAY YOUR HEARTS OUT, SHOW THE BEACH AREAS THAT WE CAN PLAY TOO!

Congratulations to Bonita and Los Altos for making it to the finals. They BOTH have great players and it will be an exciting match to watch. Please note that the tacky opinions expressed by one or two LA (Wilson) parents don't necessarily reflect the opinions of the rest of us. We are very proud of both teams.
What it means is their league will probably move up to Div. 2A, and the Prep League will move up to Div. 3AA. I actually think Mayfield would beat both of these teams (I know, LA beat them at Ayala, but they were missing 6 seniors so let's be realistic).
Unfortunately Mayfield is a very small school that has simply been phenomenal. If they keep winning it's going to make it hard on their league to compete.
If I have to choose here I pick Bonita-LA will have a hard time beating a team they have already lost to twice.
just a thought....Where would you put these two schools and all their CIF Titles...ohh wait they don't have any. They are right where they are supposed to be.
Congrats to both teams, great job ladies.
Now, Lady Bearcats stay focus and hungry you will need to be both if you want to beat a team 3 times in year, it is so, SO difficult to do but I know you ladies can do it. Best of Luck Lady Bearcats
The match between Bonita and Los Altos is at Cypress College on Saturday at 10:00am. Gym 2
Good luck to both teams.
It means that two very good teams play in the same league. Bonita has never been to a CIF final and Los Altos has not been to a final since 1977. I can see your point if they were playing in the finals year after year but that is not the case here.
Let's just be happy for both teams and support them because the represent the San Gabriel Valley.
What does that say about DIV-III AA that the #1 and #2 team from the same league are in the finals? Just a thought.
(Insert Ghigh reply comments here)
Its great these two teams are playing in the final game. But lets be honest here. There is no way these two teams should be in DIV III AA.
Congratulations to both LA and Bonita for making it to the final round. That is quite an achievement.
I know many SL parents will be on the winning (I mean Bearcats) side at the championship game.
To LA, Thank you again for reminding everyone that SL was the only noteable win. I am glad you will have something to hold on to after you lose the final game.
Go Bearcats! LA is outmatched on this one. But its sweet that LA thinks they have a chance.
What day? and what time is the game?
Considering half of the SL & Bonita teams play together on club and that several players were at Bonita tonight to cheer them on, I don't think LA will be getting much support from the Regents. In any case, it is good to see SGV represented at the level. Good luck to both teams.
LA 3 Warren 0 see ya on saturday bearcats
It's taken awhile and a lot of great players to get to this point. If it's Los Altos again our Lady Beacats can beat them again. Good job ladies.
Just got a text from the Bonita game. Apparently they won in 3. Any word yet if Los Altos won>
anyone got live scores?
LA...Nice, couldn't let the oprtunity pass you by to get one last stab in... or did I totoally miss-read that??? lol
SL you're more than welcome to come cheer on the Lady Bearcats, we'll take the support...
Please leave St. Lucy's alone. They are not going to support at team that kicked their butt. I bet they will not show at Los Altos after the beating they took from them.
I just heard that St.Lucy's is coming to the Los Altos match to cheer Los Altos on to victory. That is awesome given the fact that Los Altos destoyed St. Lucy's 3-0 in their match against each other.
Thank you St. Lucy's.
Los Altos Rules!
Best of Luck Lady Bearcats... Big game tonight so stay focus and Do NOT Look Ahead, I remember PS winning last year or the year before, so stay focus on THIS game and I am sure you've heard it over and over and over again, One Game at a Time.
Best of luck, you ladies have done a wonderful job but it's not over...
Go get them Lady Bearcats...
Good luck to LAHS and Bonita tonight. Both teams have worked very hard to get here. Great Job Ladies!!!
Go get em girls
Anyone have Bonita's results at Maranatha?
San Dimas lost in 4 tonight. Great group of kids, parents, and coaches. Also a young team so most will be back. Not a bad time for Ganesha to switch leagues! San Dimas volleyball has always been a class act and they deserve congratulations on a great season.
Gabrielino won in 4! First time in Semis for them. They have to play Mayfield, but they have a good shot. They should have been seeded higher though, in my opinion.
If Bonita is in then we should have at least two teams in the semi's? Pretty good for an underappreciated area!
bonita moving on won in 4
St Lucy's lost tonight in 3. First two games were close 23-25. South was a great team and played awesome. Congratulations Regents for a great season!
LA 3 Santa Ynez o great job LA
Good luck to the South Hills Volleyball team. Keep playing like you have been and go get em.
Watch out for Da Beast.
Congrats Gabrielino for winning your game yesterday against Ontario. Good Luck tomorrow against Chatwich.
Volleyball Insider,
You are exactly right. The only way SL's will win is if the setter can spread out the attack and not limit the attack. They have done well against the teams with that one star player by utilizing Callen & Warmington on their blocks and getting them to change up their attack. Young, Dalton and Macy are going to have to show up big up front to isolate their attack and put it back in their face. Of course, they can not commit the ridiculous mis-hits/serves that has allowed inferior teams back in the game when it shouldn't have been close.
Regarding SH/REV match up, we saw them in the summer and Vansant with the help of her setter are the entire team. If Gomez can put some blocks on her and take advantage of when she is in the back row, they may have a chance. Good luck! Would love to see them come up on top!
vblfan2-Great Job calling the wins. Forgot to mention that.
San Dimas advances to quarter finals.
REV is great but not as good as they were last year. They have a decent back row, amazing setter and of course...Vansant. South Hills needs to switch it up. They will be looking for Melinda.
SL has a chance if they do what I mentioned. But if they do what they did at our game (and some others from just the way the paper read this morning), The setter seems comfortable with her go to people. With South having a large front line, those two will get blocked. SL needs to go back to what they are known for. The fast, unpredicable offense which is spread across the board. Its almost impossible to defend.
good recap Insider.
I hate to toot my own horn, but my picks were exactly right last night. Good job SGV.
I think St. Lucy's does have a shot against South Torrance. Its huge that they get another home game. Its underestimated how important that is. I dont think South Hills will challenge REV. They are not just Vansant, they have some depth.
Bonita and LA will move on also, LA with more of a challenging match. Im not sure about San Dimas.
Using my mad internet skillz (i.e. checking the Daily Breeze) one finds:
Bishop Montgomery 3, Glendora 0: Rachel Clark had 16 kills, Teresa Puente had 34 assists and 10 digs and Bria Green had five kills and four blocks as visiting Bishop Montgomery won, 25-15, 25-19, 25-14, in the second round.
Dani Vongard had 16 digs and Sami Almaraz added five kills and eight digs for Bishop Montgomery (24-7), which plays Beckman in the quarterfinals Saturday.
All season long we have heard about South Hills, the sisters, etc...Getting kills off of small time teams (but loss to area oppenents like SL twice). And South Hills is complaining about coverage?
SL should have been covered since this is a local newspaper and they played two local teams. In addition, Walnut (like SH) was ranked in the CIF top 10 for a portion of the season.
South Hills should get the coverage for Saturday since it is a home game for SH and they are playing the #1 team in CIF. I do believe that South Hills has a chance against REV. Last year, SH went five with them at REV and now you have the home court advantage. If there is a way to cover Vansant, you could pull it out. Good luck.
Los Altos and Bonita should continue to the semi finals. There day of big coverage is coming. Both teams have the chance to bring something home.
SL just might be done on Saturday. SL is a great team and has (arguably) some of the best middles in the area. Am interested to see if they can defend Katie Landers (South's star OH/MH) who has close to 400 kills for the season. SL lucked out again with yet another home game. The only way SL can stay in this race is if their backrow steps up and allows their front line to take care of the rest and if the setter changes it up by utilizing all five of her hitters. That's SL's biggest gift is having five fire arms. At the Glendora game, SL was predictable towards the end by setting the same two people. (Then again, we were too). No excuses for SL; there are more options.
Glendora bids farewell for the season. Good luck to all.
Did anyone get San Dimas scores?
Anyone got Glendora score? Was it too brutal to remember? And St. Lucy got all the coverage by winning 2 easy first 2 round games against Amat and Walnut, those teams they beat are not even top 10 in the CIF poll. The real test is this Saturday...and South Hills should get more coverage by facing the #1 team in the Division.
Great game Huskies. Good luck on Saturday.
to realist,
And you had no faith in SH. Way to go girls, good luck against Redlands East Valley
Great year Mustang. It was a very good game.
Good luck to SH
anyone have results from the South Hills/Riverside Poly game?
I have confirmed wins by:
Bonita
San Dimas
Redlands East Valley
St. Lucy's
SHHS swept Riverside Poly 3-0, Go HUSKIES!!!!!
St. Lucy wins in 4
I disagree with south hills having the edge over riverside poly. I dont see south hills having an answer for the big middle for poly. Poly will win in 4.
There are some great matchups tonight.
10th ranked South Hills at 8th ranked Riverside Poly- I give the edge to South Hills here. Sister act wont let their team lose.
Walnut at 6th ranked St. Lucy's- The areas best defensive team vs the areas most well balanced attack. Edge St. Lucys- too much firepower.
4th ranked Bishop Montgomery at Glendora- Tough matchup for Glendora, Bishop has been in the top 4 all year long. Edge Bishop
5th ranked LA at La Quinta- I dont know much about La Quinta but they are unranked and have no standout wins on their record. LA is loaded. Edge LA
Silverado at 2nd ranked Bonita- Bonita is peaking at just the right time. They should have no trouble with this early round game. Edge Bonita
6th ranked San Dimas at Ocean View- Any team from the beach is a scary draw but their record is not that impressive. San Dimas seems to be playing their best ball late in the season. Edge San Dimas
I may be a SGV homer but I see a lot of success for us in the second round games. Good luck
Unfortunately, this is one match we will be rooting against an SGV team! Go Regents!!!
Good luck to all OTHER SGV teams.
Sure why not....
Good luck Walnut.
Go Regents!!!!
No good luck to Walnut SL Mom?
Thanks GHigh.
San Dimas does have a great team this year and would be nice to see them go far.
Good Luck St.Lucy's, Glendora, Bonita, South Hills and San Dimas.
Keep the SGV going...
I agree. Go back to the football threads
Yes I agree good job SGV
We are assured of at least one quarter final team in Div II with the St. Lucy's- Walnut game. Whoever wins that may have a shot at the semis too because it looks like S. Torrance struggled a bit in the first round. They are the 4 seed. I also like S. Hills over Riverside Poly to get to the quarters.
I think LA and Bonita have fantastic brackets and have a real shot at moving deep into the playoffs.
San Dimas has a pretty tough road.
Condolences to Ganesha and Ayala. Great seasons
Side note- Claremont and Los Osos(who beat up on the SGV this year) both out in Division I.
Big home games tomorrow.
Glendora, St. Lucy's and Bonita will all be hosting Thursday night.
South Hills away at Riverside Poly.
Good luck SGV. Definitely great games.
Walnut had a great game, but I would like to know where was the fans. It was like going to away game. Where is the football team its not like they are going to CIF. Mustangs get out there and surport your team.
Los Altos beat Oak Hills in 3.
25 - 8
25 - 10
25 - 9
Congrats St. Lucy's. Job well done.
It was a slow start. Someone said it best when they said to get the jitters out. But by game 2 & 3, our girls got it together, played their game and made it happen.
Dalton and Callen were true leaders last night. Macy is awesome and keeps getting better. Young, Warmington, Moscoso and our SiFuentes are amazing. Keep up the good work ladies. You have a big game with Walnut on Thursday.
Congratulations to the SGV. We knew we had something special and now it is confirmed. To get so many wins is great (and not surprising).
I haven't heard all the scores. How did Ayala and Los Altos do last night?
I haven't seen all the scores yet but it looks like a great showing for the SGV in the first round of the playoffs. It seems like the majority of the teams won including all of the top teams. Good job SGV.
Ganesha lost to Bell Gardens in 3. 25-22, 25-22, 25-14. We were too nervous and they were very well coached and didn't let anything hit the floor.
Lots of interesting scores this year in the first round. You just never know what will happen in CIF.
Good luck to everyone-play and have fun and good things will happen.
Big win Glendora, keep it up
a nice win for the Lady Mustangs tonight. With all the focus on Walnut Football right now you kind of forget about the great program Coach McElroy has been putting together for years now. Always competitive year in year out. Senior year for Samantha Sheller too, she got some coverage here earlier this year. Let's hope she has a fantastic finish to a great high school career.
Here is what I see.
Ayala - will have a tough time against Redlands East Valley (Tough draw)
South Hills has to beat Poly Riverside then Redlands East Valley (TOUGH DRAW)-
Glendora will have it tough from the get go, they play Bishop Montgomery.
Walnut and St lucys will meet in 2nd round, St. lucys will win but will have to play against South Torrance next... ouch!
Finals will be Redlands vs Corona Del Mar for 2AA
Los Altos recieved a good draw and should get at least to the quarters when they will face Santa Ynez.
Bonita also has a good draw they should make it to the Semi's vs. Palm Springs.
Finals Bonita vs Campbell Hall.
I think out of all the SGV teams South hills, Ayala, and glendora have it the worst. Good Luck to them.
Prediction Time-Division II and III. I dont know enough about the smaller divisions.
Who I like to win their first round games
S. Hills over CV
El Segundo over Rowland
Glendora over Burroughs
University over Walnut (tough 1st round draw Walnut, historically Uni is very tough)
St. Lucy's over BA
Arcadia over DB (this may be winnable for DB though)
LA over Oak Hills
Downey over D. Ranch
San Dimas over Ranco Alamitos
Ganesha over Bell Gardens
Good luck SGV
“Local” CIF winners in past decade:
2000 IIA La Habra beat St Joseph’s-Lakewood
IVA Whittier Christian beat Maranatha
2002 IIIAA Temple City beat Santa Margarita
VA Rio Hondo Prep beat West Valley Christian
2003 VA Rio Hondo Prep beat Coastal Christian
2004 IVA Western Christian beat St. Margaret’s
2006 IIA Pasadena beat Elsinore
IIIA Hacienda Heights-Wilson beat Brentwood
2007 IVA Mayfield beat St. Margaret’s
2008 IIA La Canada beat La Reina
IIIA Mayfield beat Santa Monica
HH Wilson won CIF four years ago if I'm not mistaken.
Yea they are Western Christian-Upland now so it doesn't count. ;)
I like Bonita's chances in that Division, there arent a lot of strong teams in that Division especially on their side of the bracket.
Steve - Western Christian Covina won a CIF Championship in the 2004-2005 school year. That's a little less than "nearly a decade". Unless they forfeited all rights to association with their 75+ yr history in the SGV when they moved to Upland.
Gabrielino is long overdue...
