Alum 83 - Your right after reading your post I do understand why people hate us. I see very little difference in your Ivory Tower post than my "Cholo, Wanna be Thug post" USC Fan? Raider Fan? Hey Pot, I'll see you at the game! Love - The Kettle!

I'll leave it at that - GOOD LUCK SGV!!

Tailgator,

Stop making a mess of yourself. Just hearing your dialoge gets me sick to know you are associated with Bishop Amat. Using words like Booze, Tighta$$es, Talking smack, bro, catch it from the inside, jokers etc tells me you are a ex-cholo or still a thug dressed in civilian clothes running around propping Amat because they are winning and all you Raiders fans just jump and start chest thumping the winner by saying you were one of us from way back. You most likely never attended Amat but are just there to party and go root for the team because gangbangers like you are just that gangbangers that associate themselfs with sports as a gang. Let me guess you are USC fan as well wear the jersey but never attended college with that arsenal of a vocabulary. You have made yourself look ridiculous here and Alumni's of Amat like myself class of 83 amongst others despise fans like you that give us real fans and former students of Amat and parents of Amat a bad name. No one is airing dirty laundry here, we speak the truth when we notice how Amat tailgates got out of hand and the good people were penalized because of your lowlife mentality. Have a good nite tonite and heres hoping your type leaves Amat someday because with supposed fans like you we dont need or want you. Our Alma Mater is better then that. We love our team, our players, our coaches and our "good" fans. Behave yourself tonite everyone is watching , please dont shame us by getting tanked and obnoxious.

Tail Gator said:

Whatever to all you Punks!!! You guys are as bad as all the other smack talkers that come on here and bash Amat, and you guys are Amat backers, allegedly. I didn't say I was drinking at the tail gates and I took the suggestion for BLUE instead of RED cups as good advice to show support. My reference to not every red cup contains "Booze or Beer" was a preemptive shot at other people like the subversive family members - "Real Lancer Parent" and "former BBQer" who come on here and air their dirty laundry about Amat issues to the public. It's unfair and detremental to our reputation when Jokers like you come in here and Paint the whole Amat Family with your broad brush strokes. The majority of the Amat tailgaters are NOT the type of people that you would like to have everyone on here believe. If you are an Amat Family member and you have an issue with the affairs at OUR school then maybe you should approach the school with your concerns. Definately choose a better forum to air your concerns rather than make us all look bad by posting on here! We have enough detractors and Amat haters out there, we don't need to catch it from the inside out especially in a forum like this? And Former BBQer - too bad you had such a bad experience, maybe you were hanging out with the wrong crowd? From my experience, there is nothing but good times and a Lancer friendly, Lancer family type environment going on. And really bro, why would you hope that somebody gets arrested? You really need to relax. Bring home a VICTORY tonight boys, GO BIG BLUE!!!!

Good luck you Lancers.

I don't have a problem with throwing back a few beers but this is Highschool Football. Amat Family, tailgate respectfully and we should be okay. We are the class of the Valley... let's act like it.

As long as noobody get's drunk and embarasses themselves there shouldn't be an issue.

Tail-GAY-tor,

It is guys like you that call someone a tighta$$ but it is also guys like you that drink before a HS game with kids around you. You are not at a bar and alcohol consumption is not allowed at HS games, haven't you seen the sighs while entering the parking lot. Guys like you are what ruined the tailgating throughout the parking lot and now are confined to that little area. I will not go near that corner of fools like you, drinking. I am sure there are still some very nice tailgaters there but I've pulled out of the tailgaters club when I saw the confinement. One day there will be no tailgating because you guys still do not follow the rules and drink alcohol in your red errrrrr Blue cups. Hope the Sheriffs bust you Friday.

Tail Gator said:

Real Amat Parent - Good point on the Red cups. I'm glad I saved my receipt, now I can swap them out for Blue ones before the tailgate, Ha, Ha, Ha. Lighten up tight a$$, nobody is hurting anybody and not every "Red" cup is filled with "Booze or Beer". Come on out and enjoy yourself at one of the many friendly and fun tailgates going on in the parking lot. There is lots of food and it's good to see all the Alum coming back to su[pport the Family! Remember, all are welcome and Amat fans are some of the nicest most hospitable fans around. This is going to be a great! Go Big Blue!!!

F---...learn how to talk first before you write. Most all of these Catholic Schools are in very bad areas. Loyola good lord look at that neighborhood. St. John Bosco's area what is up there. Amat and Mater Dei as well. But what does that have to do with the way football is played. Lets go Lancers!

Real Lancer Parent said:

To the so called "Amat Nation" of embarrassment.:

Well if you Swashbuckling Pirate Amat fans would not be drinking so much beer in the "parking lot tailgates" before the game, you would not have to PI-S so much. Remember this is HS football you should not be drinking beer out of those red cups to begin with. Speaking of red cups try getting the blue ones Red represents Mater Dei. Dont go there.

I think that are of Santa Ana makes the area of La Puente that Bishop Amat is located look high class.

If Keifer can only hold 8k with standing room, there are going to be about 5k people left outside. This game seems like it is about to be that big.

Mater Dei folks HATE coming to La Puente. Who knows if the visitor side will fill up. I don't know what they are so concerned about...the Santa Ana neighborhood around the school is EXACTLY like La Puente.

This friday is going to be WILD!!

Unrea... said:

I'm told they are setting up some bleachers on the north side of the field to expand capacity some. It's a good idea, there's plenty of room back there and its close to the restroom facilities.

I could really care less if Mater Dei has enough seats, I know they travel well but this is one of the perks you get for winning league...Playing on your home field.

CAPACITY said:

Keifer has capacity to seat 5,500 with standing room only capacity of 8,000. No chance school is moving to "neutral" ground stadium.

We defintely know this will be no walk in the park for AMAT. Plenty of history between us and you know MD is looking to avenge that loss to us the last year when we were in the same league. It will be an epic battle . Two old Angelus league foes battling it out once again . GO LANCERS .

New to AMAT,
Get used to it my friend. It never ends although it has subsided lately with the season we had and the great accomplishment by our team. In defense of many bloggers is I guess what used to get them is how even though our program was down and we hadn't won a league crown or done anything in CIF they just couldn't understand our point or loyalty to a progam gone south in their eyes. But much to their knowledge of football and being honest we have received many praises and well wishes from many of them of which I and many other of the faithful are truely greatful. Now we only get the true haters such as werd up and amnot who by the way is spewing on other blogs but doesn't have the _ _ _ _ s to come on here with his posts and the others like this AMAT hater person. Banter between fans of schools is one thing and it can be enjoyable but when these haters come on here especially after what this team did this season well they are just really showing what kind of ignorant morons they really are and have no idea what it takes to play the great game of football and be fortunate enough to have a winning season and be a champion as we and many of our SGV schools have done .

I was at the Mater Dei vs Edison game and Mater Dei was beating them up and down the field! If Amat thinks this is going to be a walk in the park as is evident by all the post...good luck!

Socalhsfootballfan said:

The game will sell out. Amat will most likely not move the game. I have heard rumors of more restroom facilities being brought in, not confirmed yet. I have not heard anything about more seats. I highly doubt they would add end zone seats on the other side. I do remember them using bleachers like they have at the baseball field before, maybe we will see that. There's no doubt as you all know it will be PACKED. Get there early. The pass gate will be on lock down and since its playoffs, league passes among others will not be accepted. CIF and Media only. So like you all said once the tickets are gone good luck getting in. Maybe check craigs list! See you all there.

Quarterback Ryan Kasdorf did not make any excuses.

"The injuries definitely hurt, but we had capable guys stepping in, so we didn't have much of a dropoff," Kasdorf said. "Basically, Bishop Amat just out-physicaled us in every part of the game. We didn't play as we should have, and they played very well, so they beat us pretty badly."

tcbruin,
True, some have been delayed. I can't recall if it was because another event was on at the time, some others pushed back to 10:30 but the majority were played on time at 7:30.

Maybe Fred can put in a call to Fox and find out the reason for the various starts during the season.

I watched Amat last year on Fox Sports West so as long as its a similar deal that is broadcast on satellite then I can get the regional stations out here. It was kind of neat to see Amat on all the big screens in the Times Square Dave & Busters last year. Hopefully I can get it again. Definitely going to have to book my flight to be out there for Dec. 12th though.

What would yall guess is the capacity of Keifer? I think there was something like 12k last year showing up for the Poly game. I can't even imagine what the numbers are going to look like for this.

Wondering said:

INFO,
Most likely this even will get sold out way before Friday. Yes AMAT and Mater Dei can stop selling tickets, once the amount of tickets sold surpaces Keifer stadiums capacity. CIF issues every school tickets for the first round which are universal and these same tickets are sold at every school which are participating in the playoffs. These tickets don't have anything on them which designates which game they are for. AMAT has no control over that, and if people show up with tickets are not let in. AMAT has a huge problem on there hand. Though i would just point that out to you.

Bleeds Blue and Gold Author Profile Page said:

one more thing-

00,

PT/Fox does not broadcast nationally but is broken down by regions. I've watched HS FB games from Florida on FCS Atlantic and Texas on FCS Central. If you were to go to San Diego or San Francisco, you'd see the regional game for those cities too on FCS Pacific.

It all depends on where you live. You do have a great idea though, showing us on the national level, I like it.

Bleeds Blue and Gold Author Profile Page said:

tcbruin,
If that were the case, then wouldn't they delay every game during the season also? Broadcast games, especially those that are really not big draws, or let's say bad weather would have an effect on ticket sales.

It must be an agreement with the Clippers that force them to show that game live, maybe it was scheduled way ahead of time or the whole year as part of the contract.

CIF only looks at gate receipts. The school keeps 50/50, concessions, souvenires.

INFO said:

Yes, the Fire Marshall does have a say so in the safety of patrons in the event of any natural disaster. However, school official are well aware of the capicity of the stadium and have no plans on overselling the event and creating a hazard. Once the last ticket is sold thats it. No ticket...no entry.

'00 said:

Since its on Prime Ticket, will the Amat game be broadcast nationally? Will it be on the same delay? If it works out, gonna catch it at Dave and Busters in Times Square like the Amat/DR game last year if any other Lancers want to come out.

AMAT 73 Author Profile Page said:

tcbruin,
Can you imagine what the 50/50 pot will be on Friday . I think around 1500 at least.I just hope CIF dosen't try to get a cut of it.

tcbruin Author Profile Page said:

Bleeds Blue and Gold,

Could there be an agreement between CIF and Fox to delay the Fb game broadcast so it will not interfere with the proceeds derived from the crowd at the game[parking, concessions, 50/50 etc]. Fb programs rely on revenue from these things.

Bleeds Blue and Gold Author Profile Page said:

Joe,
Bumping the Clippers and putting us on live would result in better ratings for Fox, it's a no brainer but most TV execs have no brains. Oh well.

wondering,
The Fire Marshall doesn't apply here, we are playing outdoors, not in the macsac.

The Fire Marshall isn't going to shut anything down. You bust your hump all summer long to win league and get that First round home game. It is crucial to play at home, hence, "home field advantage". For the whiners, I do remember the 89 Amat season traveling to Fontana High to play the Steelers in their prime of dominance in the IE. They left a 20X20 area on the Visitors side for the Amat fans and filled the vistors bleachers with FOHI fans. To top it off it was 90 degrees with Santa Ana winds and the field somehow was flooded in an effort to stop our potent passing attack. If you want comfort in the playoffs win league so you are guaranteed an home game in Round 1. In 4 years at Amat we destroyed Mater Dei every time and I see this happening again.....

There are going to be a whole lot of folks at that game thats for sure, but I wonder if it would be at all possible for the stadium crew to install more bleachers just for the visitors.

Also, how about considering putting in a few more port-a-potties in there as well eh ????

Man, last week I almost busted a gut waiting in that long line. I Could only imagine how hard it must have been for all the gals to have to waite in a much longer line that didn't move quite as fast as the guys did.

In fact, at almost all the home games, I often see more than a few women from the other side of the field making the long treck to our side, simply because of the "cleaner" facilities on our end.

Yikes !

Joe Amat Author Profile Page said:

BB&G,

Preempting the Clippers might be a good idea! The Bruins are on at the same time - so 10:30 for Amat/MD it is.

The game will be at Keifer. CIF understands that with everyone playing on this first weekend, there is a scarcity of alternate venues. In later rounds, changing venues happens more regularly. In '95, on the way to a title, the Amat/Eisenhower game was moved to Mt Sac... and it was Eisenhowers home game!

Remember that CIF gets 60% of the take and the teams split the other 40%... after expenses. So while it would be nice to have more fans attend - they also want to keep costs down.

The rules state that "Although it is necessary that one team be designated as the host team, it shall be kept in mind that the game belongs equally to both competing schools. The visiting school in dual team playoff contests is entitled to equal facilities, including one-half of the seating.."

So get there especially early - there may be some "butterfly" fans sitting on the traditional home side

Joe Amat,

Bob Woods was one of the great ones at Amat! I recall my freshman year when he would talk to all of us at PE about the old times and the Angelus league. He told that class (Tanner) that he thought we had the best chance at return to the Big Five title game. Amat was just staring to re-awaken and had not won a league title in about ten years. He was right, but we came up a bit short against Servite.

I could be wrong, but I thought that Coach Rogers was also a head coach at St. Anthony. That staff was much like this one in terms of a few former head coaches putting their ego aside for a title run.

As we both no AMAT games are jam packed every week no matter who they play, at most games there is only standing room.
When you get two programs which are passionate about there football and who have a strong Alumni following as both you guys do and huge amount of fans.
That equals an enormous amount of people wanting to watch the games, unfortunatly Kiefer stadium is not equipped to hold that many people.
Just look at Mater Dei they have a decent size stadium at there school about the size of Kiefer. They have to play there games at Santa Ana City college because of there strong fan base.

This is something which AMAT has to consider,if the Fire Marshall so happens to show up at the game and sees that Kiefer stadium is filled pasts its capacity, he has the authority to shut down that game.

I want the game at Kiefer stadium just as much as you do, but this is something which AMAT has to consider.

1) why would Amat give up it's home field advantage by moving the game from Kiefer?

2) The visitor stands hold more than 200 total.

Congratulations to all SGV teams in the playoffs. Now go out and take steps every day to make the experience the best possible. Leave nothing on the field... not just on game night - but every day.

As we debate the pairings ad nauseum, the bottom line is there is no such thing as an easy draw in the Pac5. The committee did a decent job and in a 16 team draw , with the rules they have to follow - there isn't a bunch of wiggle room. I thought we had a chance to sneak past Lakewood into the 4 seed - but our lone loss was fresh in everyone's mind had it been against Bonnies in preleague and we ran the table in the Serra things might have been different. And really Fountain Valley is no bargain either. The bottom line is we don't have peopple convinced yet - and that's fine. It's tough to shake a 3-7 disaster and others still think Hags is doing it with smoke and mirrors. You could tell by the talk on some of the interviews... "Oh, and then there's Bishop Amat..." Or the rep from the CIF office saying that things in the Serra league "changed from their expectations at the last minute...". No one expected the Lancers to win, but there certainly is no one that has TWO signature wins like the Lancers. And I mean NO ONE.

jcaz, brought up a great point that is getting lost in the minutia. It actually is a little better to have a tough first round game - when you are certain to have that at home. If you are fortunate enough to get that one out of the way, get on a roll and get by the 2nd round, you have a better chance at the home game in the semis.

I do find it funny that it is written above that Mater Dei is "our nemesis"... like they have our number or something. The reality is the Lancers have a 19-12 all-time record vs Mater Dei and beat them the last time they visited Keifer. I'm not sure what was a worse game for Matt Barkley - that nights multiple INT game or Saturdays beat down by Stanford. Amat put a similar whuppin' on Matt Leinart when he was a Monarch. So we've dished out a bit and took a bit... most notably their payback of the Lancers in the CIF Finals rematch after we beat them during league in '94. Let's hope this Friday is more like the former than the latter.

What many people won't remember is the deep connection that Amat has with Mater Dei in the sharing of a legendary coach. Long-time Amat assistant coach, Bob Woods, who passed away as a Lancer in the late '80s after spending the late '60s early/'70s (the Haden/Sciarra years) as Head Football Coach at Mater Dei and won an Angelus League Championship in his first year. Bob could tell stories. If I remember there was a time when the Lancers and Monarchs played for a perpetual trophy (kinda like the Smudge Pot - but with a lot less history). It would be great if there was some mention of this on Friday. Coach Woods coached Hags and they were on the staff together - so I know it's special to Steve too. Maybe the Trib could do a bit on it too. Fred?
