Muir not intimidated by Charter Oak ...

Charter Oak (9-1) is the defending Southeast Division champion and No. 1 seed, but don't expect Muir (4-6), which started 0-5 and needed to win its last three game to make the playoffs as the fourth place team from the Pacific League to be intimated when they visit the Chargers in the first round on Friday. Muir has played one of the toughest schedules in the division, losing to Southern Section powers Oaks Christian and Venice.
In the Pacific League they lost three games, though just by a combined 11 points, which included a 29-28 loss to fourth-seed Burbank.
"It's another team, they're not the team of old, that's a good thing for us," Muir coach Ken Howard said of Charter Oak. "We don't mind getting them because now they have all the pressure. They have everything to lose and we have nothing to lose. We have been struggling in the playoffs the last couple years and they won a championship. We're not going to worry about it, we're going to show up and give them our best shot."

Hey Dranchhhh...I wasn't talking about DR High...there are more than 2500 high school boys in the 4 PUSD high schools and the best football, baseball and basketball players wind up at DR.
Speed Speed Speed Speed Speed!!
Pomona ranchhhh,
Go get on your own blog, oppps i forgot Pranch doesnt have their own blog, they are not worthy of press. I make CO look bad, you got to be kidding me, I rep CO and defend my school. We all know that you are the only scum bag of this blog. You are the most disguting person to ever come on this blog. Why dont you go to the BA blog and go hate on them like you have been doing the whole season. Make sure your guys start getting ready for basketball season, you guys are not getting past Shurr.
COChargerfan,
NAME more than 1. I know that whole team and only one of those kids live outside of the schools pipeline boundaries. And the one kid im speaking of transferred from GAREY. Name one outside of him. If you post that piece of vital info, Ill shut my fingers down, and wont blog again. And dude, where did you get 2500 students from?? we only have 1,921 enrolled in a school where girls are the majority. Where are you gettin you facts.
Seems like your toes were stepped on. Stang fan put your recruiting abilities out there and it exposing CO for they are. they are the better school up that way and kids tend to transfer there to ball. Nothing wrong with that right??
Hey Dranchhhh, how many of the DR athletes don't live within the boundries of DR high and, instead, are intra-district transfers...a lot??? DR "recruits" from the other 3 high schools in the PUSD giving your football team over 2,500 boys to pick from...same goes for basketball and baseball...so put that in your "pipeline" instead of the other stuff your smoking.
SGV Football:
It is idiots like you that make CO look like the enemy. Shut your fingers down and let the kids settle it on the field Ignor-anus!!
Stang Fan,
My buddy, Good luck on that field manana. As I have stated, CO has had issues with speed this season, but they have far to much depth and they will probably tire Muir out. They keep fresh legs on that line all night. Also, it is interesting to know that CO's star players come from outside of Covina!! Hmm......makes you think again!! Wonder how kids from as far as Pasadena, Duarte and Monrovia end up in Northern Covina. I keep saying I wish DR had that kind of pipeline.
REAL CLASSY,
I dont owe anyone an apology fool, this is playoff season and only the strong survive. If someone is going to say that we have all these out of town players of course Im going to defend CO. Yes they might have family outside of Covina but who doesn't or previously lived in other cites but people move and all those kids mentioned live in Covina... I am just letting all you ladies "REAL CLASSY" especially know were our CO kids stand.
SGV FOOTBALL,
That was real classy there fool. The Stang Fan's post was pretty direct and to the point. He complements CO's program and even says the they will more than likely win the game. Read the post again and maybe you owe Stang an apology. Or maybe you are that stupid and classless.
NY,
I hear you. However, if Muir does beat CO, that would undoubtedly be an upset...at least in the minds of 99% of the SGV. I guess I'll count you in that remaining 1%. Hell, EVERYONE has us, not just losing, but getting blown out. Remember, we are also the smallest school BY FAR in the Southeast division with a total population of 1100, so yeah, I think I would call it an upset. I appreciate you thinking it wouldn't though!
And yes, I did forget Graham...one HELL of a player!
SGV FOOTBALL,
You're welcome! I'm glad to know that those guys landed somewhere, played some great football, and enjoyed their years at CO. And yes, our lack of a consistent program has sometimes forced families to seek greener pastures...though, I hope you enjoy it while it lasts.
Because as soon Monrovia and Muir tighten up their borders by creating strong programs (and Monrovia is well on their way), and with BA back in the mix, it could be a LONG few years in the Sierra League and Central Divisions. Coach Farrar is a GREAT coach, and together with a STRONG staff, he as built something special out there in "beautiful Covina"...but we all know that players play the game, and without those kids from Pasadena and Monrovia, this year's CO team would simply be a decent team.
So again, hats off to the CO community for such a creating a great tradition, and making your school a location that attracts quality talent from outside of your town! You guys have certainly earned it.
And yes, Muir was in a higher division. In fact, we won a few MAJOR division titles. Unfortunately, that was a LOOOOONG time ago, and we have been dropped quite a few divisions since then. Hopefully, we can create a better program, lick our wounds in these lower divisions, build back up, and join the big boys again....
I'd wish you luck on Friday's game....but we both know you don't need it....right?
The Stang Fan, since your congratulating athletes I will congratulate you.
Well I just want to thank you for having a Sh!tty program over there in Pasadena and pushing those studs you just named over to beautiful Covina.
Thanks again Sincerley CO Chargers.
P.S Muir does not stand a chance, and will get blown out tomorrow.
Why would you be waiting for this game??? Wasn't muir in a higher division and couldn't hang so thats why they got bumped down.
The Stang Fan,
To be fair, I did use quotations at one point when discussing Muir's ability to "upset" teams in the SGV, because I don't think most matchups would be an upset.
Did you forget to mention Mikey Graham who had a huge season at Charter Oak in 1994?
Freddie J,
Hope all is well over here on the Eastside for you! As for me, I gotta tell you I am FIRED up about this game.
Look, CO is the better program right now. No doubt about that. The coaches have been there forever, the players fall in line, and there are "W's" galore...not to mention last year's championship team. Things are going great for the Chargers, hats off to Coach Farrar and crew for putting a great, respected squad on the field year in and year out.
But if there is one thing Muir is not....it's intimidated. Yes, they schedule up, and yes during this decade that has resulted in a few lopsided scores, but as you mentioned, they are NOT intimidated.
I don't always appreciate Coach Howard's comments, but I respect where they come from.
The reality is Fred, that this year's CO team doesn't appear to be as strong as last year's. Hell, you replace a three-year CIF player of the year at QB with a sophomore...that alone is a pretty big difference. Does that mean that CO is not the favorite to win it all? No. Certainly not. But are they as good as last year's team? I don't think so. I could be wrong, but something tells me different.
In the end CO will beat Muir at home this Friday. They will pound the ball and play great defense. The two biggest factors in football. Muir normally has a great offense, but has struggled this year. Their lack of a ground game vs. CO will cost them in the end.
BUT....they have shot. I promise you. These guys have a shot. Their athleticism on defense is pretty impressive. Their playmaker at WR is DAMN GOOD. If they had any semblance of a dominant run game, this game would be TOUGH! If the football gods look down upon the Stangs this Friday and grant them victory...I've got to tell you, I wouldn't be shocked, like virtually everyone in the SGV would. Surprised? Yes. Shocked? No.
I've wanted this game for a LONG time now, and to get it during our roughest year in decades is frustrating...especially with CO likely leaving the Southeast next year. But I'll take it. And the boys will GLADLY take it too. You know I'm good for some ol' fashion trash-talking and I've been silenced because of our record this year...but man oh man, I would love to pick up where I left off last year before injuries and a good DR team took us down.
As New York mentioned in MM's blog, this is the BEST chance for a #16 to upset a #1. Again, not likely, but the possibility is there. Good luck to both squads....and shot out to all of the Pasadena ballers who have called CO home! ;)
Patrick F., Kim S., Will H., Kanaan S., Mikey H., Dennis R., Adam M., AJ P........
I'm siding with the underdog (Muir). CO barely escaped with a win over DR, and DR only had half their team at the game. DR used a lot of inexperienced reserves. It was CO's lowest score of the season (held to 12 points). It was only by luck that DR didn't get the first TD when they were inside CO's 5 yard line. DR crossed the goal line, but a penalty was called and the next play DR fumbled which saved CO on that one. CO was missing their star player (Golden) though. GO MUSTANGS.
Lemme see here. CO pitched a shutout of the entire Miramonte...that's a statement to anyone. They have two D1 runningbacks in Muema and Golden. Huge target in Dennis Rufus to throw to...oh and that Defense...did I mention not a team in the Miramonte scored on them?
Only RB? so what about the best LB core in the valley with Keith Smith, Leon Youngblood, and Patrick Dallen? plus the best 2 corners together in southern CA!..explain to me that please

What up CO you guys think your the big bad wolf in this division. I got news we played teams 10 times better than you. You will not make it past the first round, we saw the film all you guys have is your RB, we got him on lock and your passing games in no where to be found.
muir looks like they just got there death sentence in that pic
Photo,
it looks like 78 is scurred and just tought about the film where Keith Smith runs over the lineman to make the tackle in the backfield.
By photo, it looks like they just heard that they have to play the Chargers.
Not sure what the coach meant by "not the team of old". This CO team is peaking and will be bringing the pain come Friday night at Charger Stadium. Sounds like the same old team to me.
Playoff football. It is who comes to play. On any given nite any team can put it together as a underdog. Seen it happen alot of times, especially in playoff ball. There is no room when chasing a CIF title to become cocky or over confident. Good luck to all teams and Seniors playing what could be their last game. Lay it on the line you only play HS football once in your lifetime.
All I got to say is that muir lost to Diamond Ranch, CO shut out Diamond Ranch and the rest of the league. Muir's offense has no hope with that defense.
That's certainly an awesome photo.
Mr Ken Howard,
You played two very good teams in Venice and Oaks, but we all know you did not win. Muir does not have history in the playoffs you guys are always 1 or two and out of playoffs. I hope you guys bring it I want to CO to go through some battles early so when the championship comes they are fully prepared to take on whoever.
