Pac-5 Predictions: The only sure thing is there is no sure thing, so why not jump on the Amat Bandwagon; I'm thinking Final Four
Fred's explanation: Doing the Southwest and Mid-Valley brackets are easy by comparison because there are games you absolutely can't miss, shouldn't miss, so you have the ability to pick a lot of winners, which is why I can go 18-0 or 17-1 sometimes when I pick games every Friday. The Pac-5 isn't like this. No. 16 can beat no. 1 and it's not that huge of an upset as we saw last year with Bishop Amat, nearly knocking off No. 1 Long Beach Poly in the first round on the road. The best thing we can say about Bishop Amat in the first round is that if they beat Mater Dei, it is not an upset. The Lancers are back competing for titles at the highest level, so get use to it. The good times are back. It doesn't mean they're going to win it this year, but they're going to compete. I have watched them enough times to know they're going to leave their hard-hats on the field, so, how far can they advance? Who knows, but I will tell you what, I'm not surprised anymore at who they beat. I witnessed St. Bonny and Notre Dame, so nothing this team does surprises me.

They just do not get it and are bitter for some reason. Must have been they could not afford the privete schooling and or their girlfriend left them for a Amat football player, got cut from the basketball or Baseball team. Lack of playing time also creates bitterness with ex-students. Surrounding schools of Amat have the haters that hate out of jealousy. Then theres the wannabe Amat jock that has no skills at all only dreams so he comes in and knocks us.
Now people will come in here and say how pompous I am and that why they hate on Amat.

Looking way back, we also played Lakewood in what was then the 4A Championship Game at the Coliseum back in 1970. We won that game in OT with Pat Haden and John McKay.
Not looking ahead to Lakewood with MD in front of us, but I do recall 2001-2002?? we went to Lakewood as a underdog for a playoff game with Lakewood as a big time favorite, a 9-1 or even a 10-0 record, Amat won easily that nite. Goes to show anything can happen in pac 5 football. There will be upsets this friday. Go to IBNsports.com and watch some film of Mater Dei. Not a bad looking team. Sizeable O-line and a 6'3 reciever. Servite had their way with them. Amat should beat them but must come with that same intensity that they came with last Friday.
Bishop Amat. Great season ! No question about it. If we can at least get to the semi finals. Then I would say we are back !. Pressure....Oh yes. But if you want to be back on top. We have to beat the best of the best.FYI. The last semi final....We lost to Edison H.S. Do any of you remember ?. Lets get back to the top.

Like your prediction Fred, I think Amat has a chance at winning it all. Last Friday it really looked like the team was in a groove and had just started to play their best football of the season. If they can keep this up I think they will give themselves a good chance in every game they play during the playoffs.
I know the men are going to be ready. The BUTTERFLIES are leaving the calm beautiful surroundings of Orange County and coming to roughneck neighborhoods of La Puente.

For my part I say we start it off with an old Angelus league rival game AMAT vs Mater Dei and end it with one also AMAT vs Servite. Now that would be something. GO LANCERS . Hey Fred it is about time you saw the light concerning AMAT . Thank you for that great insight . You are right we are back and I for one didn't think it would be this soon. Hats off to Hags and staff as they have really brought this team and program back to where we belong. Keep up the good work and to the Men in Blue work hard this week and keep your focus on Mater Dei and everything else will fall in place.
