The Scouting Guru's mock draft for the Pac-5, Southeast, Mid-Valley is in, check it out
The Scouting Guru has been all over the San Gabriel Valley and beyond, and like always, he's offered to share his thoughts, free of charge. Don't hate, enjoy it for what it's worth, which is one man's opinion on the talent and teams in the San Gabriel Valley and surrounding areas.

The Scouting Guru Bracketology: Well, we've crunched the numbers - looked at the protocol that the playoff committee has to work with and here is out best estimate of what the area's Divisions for the CIF-SS Toyota Football Playoffs look like (do you like that Thom Simmons?...). El Rancho (Del Rio 3)/Alhambra (Almont 3)
Post note: It is a really tough projection to see what South Hills gets. Both El Rancho and Alhambra look very similar on paper and on the Calpreps.com computer (El Rancho 12.6; Alhambra 10.6). If the committee decides to flip the West Covina vs. San Gabriel game with the Cal vs. Rowland game, then South Hills gets Alhambra. Order has been restored with the brackets in this division. Look for the committee also to strongly consider flipping the West Covina v. San Gabriel - Rowland vs. California game. The dynamics of the brackets doesn't change.

Paging Mr. SGV Scouting/'GURU', Paging Mr. SGV Scouting/'GURU',
Still waiting for your 'analysis' on Amat's season and how you erred with your prediction of a 3 to 4 win season for the SGV's preeminent football program: Bishop Amat.
How long do you plan to stonewall?
THE TIME HAS COME,
I had asked similar questions of the 'guru' below a couple of days ago.
So far the typical 'guru' response when totally wrong: STONEWALL.
guru,
You have dodged the issue long enough. First off where is the COY trophy promised to Hags if Amat won more than 3 or 4 games. Second tell us now what you think of Amat and the season they just concluded. The time for hiding is over you must come and face the music. We are waiting. Come out come out from where ever you are hiding.
Robert from Lakewood.....feel better? What a dweeb///every blog has a "look at me" fool.... congratulations.
Bulldog Buddy
If you are a Bulldog fan my apologies, but why misrepresent Maggiore and staff in that way, if you've been around him enough you know he doesn't carry himself the manner in which you describe, I don't see him obsessed or hateing on any particular football program, not even our rival South Hills,I would be willing to bet the only program he thinks about is the program we are playing in any particular week, and at this time it is San Gabriel so Charter Oak is not even a thought on his mind, if we are fortunate enough to get by San Gabriel then he will worry about Charter Oak but for now its all about Isaac Valdez and San Gabriel because in the playoffs anything can happen.
Also, with the problems we've had on the line this year do you really think the WC coaches would ever think that CO's huge line could not play with ours? Believe me they are not that ignorant.
Jag,
Three other staffs have told you that Maggiore hates your team? Thats commical, just another desperate blogger attempting to make some locker room material for your Chargers, thats some funny stuff.
On a serious note Amat win at home friday against Mater Dei, but on to Lakewood the following week and they are out. Sorry Lakewood is that good at home also. The story ends there for Amat. Nice season but one and done last year and this year one more add'l game and it is two and done this year.
The other thread is back up
Seems as if the other thread is donw once again....
Anyway, getting Mater dai in the first round and in this bracket is fantastic and I’ll tell you why. Out o the four teams in the bottom part of our mini bracket only Mater-dai will be a tough cookie to crack. But we have them at home.
After we beat the snot out of them at Kiefer, we most likely have to travel to either Newport Harbor or to Lakewood. We smack them down at their house no problem.
Then for our little bracket we most likely get number one Edison, but here it gets real good and that is because we should once again have that game as a home game if the games are suppose to flip flop after every cycle.
Now this of course, this assumes that we get an away game in the second round and that we are able to get that all important home game in the third.
An exciting time of the year with so many awesome possibilities here eh ?
Lets go DIAMOND RANCH your all healthy...the line is driving the running backs look great...lets go to burbank and show them what a good ass kicking feels like...WE ARE DR
Ahh Dannyboy you and I both know who each other are so don't go there with me buddy. I just decided it is what it is so why not just go there. None of us can deny how badly we would love to beat them so let's just put it out there and let the chips fall where they may. You know you feel just as strongly as the rest of us do. See you Friday night!
Mater Dei will whip your goony goony goo-goo a$$es come friday night booooooooooooooooooyyyyy!!! Prep for a melt down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE GOT MATER DEI!!!!
Bulldog Buddy [Charter Oak poster] you gotta be a little more creative than that, its obvious your trying to fire up your CO Chargers for the playoffs. Pretty desperate attempt to slander a good coach, most on here already know that Maggiore has nothing but respect for other programs and Ive been around him enough times to know he doesn't talk that way so for you to come on here and put words in his mouth is pretty pathetic and makes you as a CO follower
look like a worm.
Amat should get the fourth seed. The Guru has Lakewood getting the fourth. I don't see Lakewood getting the fourth seed because they haven't really played anyone. They did beat Long Beach Poly, but Poly isn't the traditional power we are used to seeing this season. Other than that their league doesn't compare to the Serra League, plus Amat's strength of schedule looks a lot tougher than Lakewood's. I haven't had time to see who's schedule was ranked tougher through max preps, but I have a feeling that Amat's win's and even one loss is better than Lakewood's. What do you think Joe Amat?
I want to see what Davis Cazares defend against Mater Dei!
Didn't we be OC, errr....I mean MD the last time we played em?
*************************************************
Here is the 2nd and newest Davis Cazares video:

This young man is scary good.
jcaz,
While revenge is sweet, CIF specifically states in their Playoff Handbook,
"Another factor utilized when formulating initial pairings, is to review the playoff bracket for the previous years, in an effort not to match identical teams that may have been paired the previous year."
So we'll have to wait for a crack at LB Poly in a later round - should they be fortunate enough to get there.
San Clemente or Los Al is my guess. Have seen them both on film. Pretty good
Since Long Beach Poly finished second in their league, their game is already built in the bracket. There is a 99.9999999% that a Amat v. Poly rematch in the first round will not happen.
COChargerFan,
Good to finally hear from you directly. The flag was actually thrown late after Keith’s I.N.T. and was called by the back judge for holding by #2 Z'mali our nickel back. The “white hat” actually came over and you could hear him say that was a bad call and he told Big Lou to be patient with him because his crew was really inexperienced and for a few of the men that was their first Varsity game. Former Head Coach for Mt. Sac legend Bill Fisk was actually one of the officials. Anyways, we should have a conversation about the officiating epidemic in our Valley sometime.
Speaking of which, now that you have my attention. I want to invite you to introduce yourself to me before the game Fri. night on the field. Everyone knows who I am and if you’re going to represent C.O. on the blog and truly are a loyal, sincere fan I would like to meet you and invite you on the field before the game. Show your face behind the anonymous identity and you would earn the creditability I think you feel you deserve and then too I think you would better appreciate and respect the program from an inside point of view. You’ve been a fan and a critic but your perspective sometimes really isn’t the reality to what goes on behind the scenes. These men and young men really work and play hard and I’m fortunate to be there with them for Friday nights (the one time of the year my wife actually lets me fly from the nest) but I think you would gain a better appreciation and respect for Big Lou and his staff and the players and the tradition. There’s nothing better than being on C.O.’s sidelines for a Friday night football game. The tradition is literally awesome. You can go back into the stands for the game if you want but regardless we both can put faces with our names.
Us bloggers need stand together for our team and really even for the Valley for that matter so quit hiding behind a screen and show us who you are. We other bloggers have done this several times and really have had fun. Are you up for it? I’m calling you out!
By the way, Joe Amat, when are we playing our round of golf together?
Hey JFR, you will recall that Keith Smith started the year as an OLB with Dallen in the middle but they switched a few games back. Dallen is a great kid that plays and hits hard but Smith is just a lot faster and both kids appear better suited for the new positions...it sure puts a smile on your face going into the playoffs. Question...do you know what penalty was called that negated Smith's INT cuz I didn't even see a flag thrown until he was already running with the ball. It was also pleasant to watch the offense open up a little although I'd still like to see them throw the ball down the field on 1st down.
No way Upland and Colton meets in the first round. Upland will be playing the worst 1st place team which is not Colton. They may end of playing Damien which would be a good crowd(money)for the cifss office. Another opponent for Upland would be Elsinor.
I for one would very much like to have a rematch with long Beach Poly in the first round, but this time of course, over at Kiefer.
I'll bet you that if that were to happen, that the results would be far different this time around and that the kids who played in last years game would no doubt want to make it a point to send them a very special message of remberance.

Bishop Amat: Serra League Champs(CBS)
"The surprise Friday night was not that Bishop Amat won, but how they knocked off the defending Serra League champs, Notre Dame. Jay Anderson ran for a career high 215 yards and 3 TD, while Jerry McClanahan had arguably his best performance of the season, throwing for a career high 257 yards and a score.
As so eloquently called on our HS Rewind last Sunday by Eric Sondheimer of the LA Times, Amat was indeed victorious. The Lancers picked up yet another home victory, defeating Notre Dame 31-14 at Kiefer Stadium. I don't want to say La Puente's Lancers had their way with the Knights. Notre Dame was banged up entering Friday night's game. Most notably, leading receiver Tyler Thomas did not play and watched from the sidelines in street clothes. But Amat pretty much controlled the game from start to finish. The Lancers played tenacious D and the only points from the Knights offense came at the end of the first half via the two minute drill, and at the end of the second half. Amat was already up 31-7 when Ryan Kasdorf scored a rushing TD to make it 31-14.
Amat was extremely physical and ran to the ball. Kenny Boggs nor Kasdorf could get loose. The running lanes closed in a hurry.
La Puente's Lancers capture the Serra League crown tonight with the win. Thanks in part to Loyola's 41-37 win over Crespi. Amat and Notre Dame finish league play with 2-1 records and the Lancers get the league's top seed because of the head to head matchup. Both teams secure a PAC 5 playoff berth. Loyola finishes 3rd over Crespi because of the head to head tiebreaker. The win also gives Amat a chance of securing one of the top four seeds in the PAC 5 bracket. Its the first Serra League title for the Lancers since joining the league in 2002.
There was an Amat supporter in the crowd Friday night that said "We don't lose here." Actually, that has been the case recently. The Lancers extended their home winning streak to 11 games and have not lost a home game under 2nd year head coach Steve Hagerty. The last loss at Kiefer Stadium came November 2, 2007 to Notre Dame.
The playoffs begin next Friday, unless agreed upon by the competing schools. A home game for the Lancers could be in the works. The Chain Gang will be there, will you?"
`Author was unlisted but he/she is AWESOME!

West Covina's 4 Losses this year
El Rancho (made the playoffs)
Venice H.S. (9-1)(their loss was to Oaks Christian)(Won League)
Bishop Amat (9-1)(Won League)
South Hills (8-2)(Won League)
JFR,
I know, they aren't which hurts hard but at least they're going to the playoffs.
I said it would take a miracle...however defending Bonita as you can tell wasn't the point of my post but rather that Diamond Ranch is way overhyped. Sadly the Fact is this year Bonita and Diamond Ranch are just somehow better than the bottom of the Miramonte and that's about it this season. If Bonita receives South Hills for the first round and not Schurr...well not even a miracle could save them.
Charter Oak has been just that good the past six seasons years in the Miramonte and none of the teams have caught up.
Aaron, your loyalty is great but please stop pleading Bonita's case for being a good team. They have a good chance of getting SH in the first round and will get killed. I hate to say that because my son is a freshman at Bonita, but it is what it is.
Scott,
I think the reverse is actually preferable. A league champion should be away from the #2 & #3 representative, if possible, so they wouldn't meet until the finals, But the reality is the rule only states:
"The No. 1 designee is placed in either half of the bracket, with League D #2 in the opposite half. The final step is to place the No. 3 teams from each of the respective leagues in the open slots, attempting to place each in one of the remaining “quarters” of the bracket where the league is not represented. This process eliminates the aspect of schools from the same league meeting in the second round of competition."
Bulldog buddy, I'll be there tomorrow at the pairings like always. I like Mike " no pun " but know who u r talking to. Im not jfr so get it right. If I see Mag I'll say hi and good luck, are u going to be there by chance? I would love to see u before the a$$whopppppping!
When was the last time Charter Oak lost a Miramonte League game? 2005 Charter Oak Homecoming game, they lost to Bonita. So they haven't lost a Miramonte game in four years. Honestly Diamond Ranch isn't that good, they barely beat what is now a severely depleted Bonita team which the last time the Bearcats had suffered this many injuries they went 2-8 and didn't go to the playoffs. Diamond Ranch will be lucky to get out of the first round and well, it will be a miracle if Bonita does as well but I've seen them pull out miracles before.
I just realised last night that the Miramonte has been on a one dog show for the last four years...how many teams dominate like that.
Since Max Preps began keeping stats back in the fall of 2004 Charter Oak has won 22 of 24 league games.
I'm not on their Band Wagon I hate CO, SD, LA, and DR equally, I wish they'd go 0-10 every year, but all I have to say is ouch they've been very good if not great these last six years.
From what I know about the playoffs are the number one from each league and the number three from each league should be in the same bracket, when possible. The guru is pretty accurate for the Southeast except Bonita should be the Charter Oak bracket and Rowland should be in the South Hills bracket.
Have fun..
So I literally post a comment one time and look at the "boo" birds squawking flying around like vultures ready to go after the kill. On a positive note, I respect you responding to my post so quickly FredJ very professional although I will have to disagree with your professional opinion.
Gentlemen, you included FredJ have to not like West Covina but better respect our chances because Maggiore always has a reputation of doing more with less like last year getting to the semifinals but this year is different we have more so more with more equals a C.I.F. Championship appearance.
Now what's a perfect scenario is Charter Oak played us in passing league and yes did beat us bad but that's going to work against you and for us because linemen and pads is where the game is won and you may have equal to actually probably less skilled players than us but your offensive and defensive line you know as well as I do is below average. Our coaches have said you cannot compete in the trenches with us and we truly believe we can score points on your defense.
As for South Hills, they cannot and will not beat us a second time in a row either. Shirley had his day but on his last night we will end victorious. A rival game anything can happen and everyone remembers the last time we met in the Finals.
Maggiore and his staff and boys heck even our administration have dreamed of the perfect storm and you can't right a better script than this year's bracket. Charter Oak goes down for the last time in our Division by West Covina at home never to reach the quarterfinals again moving into a higher Division next year.
My only words to you JFR whoever the real you is I am so confident that Maggiore feels so strongly about Charter Oak I bet if you approach him directly he wouldn't hesitate to tell you exactly how he feels and what he thinks of Charter Oak and playing you guys. You want to make a bet?
JoeAmat, we sat around talking like we always do and tried to figure it out like always. I think we are 2 out of 8 for the last ten years but its fun to take a shot at it without understanding the process. That's why we still eat breakfast across the street from Artesia high "old CIF office" cafe. If you show up the meal is on me. P.S. without seeing the game your win was awesome, I counted your guys out like most but once again you just might have that crazy team that can do the impossible. Win it all!
bulldog bud
I love the loyalty among coaching staffs, we have heard from three different staffs how much maggoire hates us and wants to work us over. Hope we share the same bracket maggie, seems like ur still bitter after the 2 butt kicks in the same year. we like ur stadium 4 another win, please wear ur shorts again to show us how tough u r in the cold weather. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr.
CO
Avatar, Guru, JFR, et al,
The key to this whole "Bracketolgy" is *following the rules* like you guys have tried to do.. A challenge to everybody is to get the Playoff Handbook and give it a try. Then you might never be tempted to argue the draw again. Okay... maybe you will, but you'll at least understand how difficult it is to do 13 of those in 36 hrs!
That's my honest belief, that Charter Oak will meet South Hills in the final. Look what South Hills did to West Covina and Rowland, look what Charter Oak did to the Miramonte. To me, those are the best two teams from the toughest leagues in the division. Look at their losses, Rancho Cucamonga, La Habra, Tesoro, that's it. That's not being disrespectful to Rowland, Diamond Ranch, West Covina, or the Pacific or Almont leagues, if those two aren't in the finals, it's a huge surprise.
Mr. SGV Scouting/'GURU'.
You have provided some 'speculation' here. So you are still blinking.
Before the season you LED the charge on how Amat was gonna be lucky to win THREE/FOUR games.
Can't wait to read your 'analysis' on how Amat was able to win 9 games and why you were totally WRONG.
Perhaps you are ready to TAKE CREDIT for Amat's success.
Central Division:
I can see why the Guru holds off on predicting this one... no matter how you arrange the teams, if you follow the rules and the latest polls, one or more "seeded" teams is getting a nasty draw in the first round.
Anyway, here's one possibility:
Colton (San Andreas 1)
Upland (Baseline 4 WC)
>
West Valley (Sunbelt 2)
Chaffey (Mount Baldy 2)
Damien (Sierra 1)
Paloma Valley (Sunbelt 3)
>
Los Osos (Baseline 1)
Don Lugo (Mount Baldy 3)
Elsinore (Sunbelt 1)
Chino Hills (Sierra 3)
>
Ettiwanda (Baseline 2)
Cajon (San Andreas 2)
Glendora (Sierra 2)
Rancho Cucamonga (Baseline 3)
>
Colony (Mount Baldy 1)
Arroyo Valley (San Andreas 3)
Burroughs can handle South Hills. I don't think the Huskies can keep Williams under 200 yards.
Charter Oak is a solid #1. South Hills wouldn't have won the Pacific League.
One nice thing about the brackets is the potential for Burbank v Burroughs Final. We'll send you pictures of the trophy.
Fred & Guru, please watch the game film on CO vs LA and check out Keith Smith. He is a 4.0 student that has Ivy league & mountain west schools hunting him, take a look. Stang Muir, Alhambra or El Rancho for CO is what it looks like, We always seem to get 1st round teams south of the 60 off the 605. Could change this year, good luck. The real JFR is signing off.
I appreciate you representing our side of the Valley on the "other" blog and posting your very own "personal" comments. So I'm assuming this is your true feelings about the Division. You mean to tell me you do not think West Covina, Rowland, or Diamond Ranch has a chance of beating either South Hills or Charter Oak? Please just be honest with us now and tell us you want that Final and you pick and want South Hills to win in the Finals versus Charter Oak? I'm personally a West Covina fan and on record Coach Maggiore has said he would love nothing more than to play Charter Oak because he hates them but how about some Edgewood love for your other boys besides Coach Bogan. What gives brother?
FredJ said:
Did Burbank say Burbank should be No. 2, Listen, the only thing for sure in the Southeast is that Charter Oak will meet South Hills for the championship. The Pacific League will be gone by the second round..
November 14, 2009 12:49 AM
Any new bracket predictions before CIF comes out. Just curious how you think the midvalley might pan out after paraclete losing. Are Azusa and SD now in danger of them falling into their bracket? Is the danger of paraclete still real, or are they not who we thought they were. How many seniors did they graduate from last year's CIF champs and what positions are they returning this year? Seems like a couple of the predicted 3 seeds fell as well. Any thoughts?
Fred J,
Whats your prediction of
Muir vs Charter Oak?
or
Muir vs South Hills?
CIF,
Does not matter who we get, we are at home and lethal! My gut instinct is Newport Harbor, but Mater Dei would be nice!!!
ON BLUE!!!
