Rancho Cucamonga quarterback Greg Watson expected to play against Glendora
I just spoke with Rancho Cucamonga coach Nick Baiz, who said that quarterback Greg Watson, who left Friday's season-ending 27-24 loss to Etiwanda early with an injured leg, will play against Glendora on Friday. Baiz said removing Watson was more precautionary than anything.

That my friend, really deserves an even bigger "yikes" than I would nomaly give right about now....
YIKES !!
Thanks, and if I can before I leave our valley I will most certainly take you up on that. There's no hard feelings over here on my end. Hope all is well and good luck to everyone's teams.
out of all this talk that watson will be back its not true. hes out the coach is just saying that to put fear in glendora. when it comes to game time watson will be out nd rancho will have to deal without him and try to pull it off. may happen and may not happen we will see. and if glendora gets pass rancho hopefully we see andre holmes back and run colton over. and the defense will prevail because all colton does it run with two backs over 1,000 yards.
My Friend Sparta,
Say it ain't so Joe. Come on , the blog without your input just would not be the same. As you can tell it is a much better place now then it has ever been in the past .When in the past would bloggers come on here to apologize to one another. Yes there are still the classic azzholes ( by the way where is King Stud} just a joke Stud , but now a much better place to jaw it out on our sports in the SGV. I remember you brought up the pizza and beer bloggers party and it was shot down all to hell by many bloggers. Now it seems like it could happen. Just look at the change towards AMAT , now with that happening the get together sounds like a piece of cake. Stick around because who else are the bloggers going to go after if you leave. HA HA HA. Frank you are who you are and don't change. If they knew you as a person they would " get it " as the saying goes. Stay strong keep the faith , I am sure you will be at the Damien game on Friday so I will again update you on our game.
Uho -
now i'm worried, your being to dam nice to me.
I agree, time to move on.Speaking of poker-
i think you jinxed me, just played in a tournament with over 17000 players.
finished in ( 666 ) yikes !!!
p.s. gano is a very good (hold-em) player !!!
Aaron I will pray for you to not leave and will certainly pray for you to come back. As you see ...you are the better man once again...ceratinly a credit to this country and a source of pride to your mother.
My uncle gave me his Marine cap...sorry I should know the name...and it is one of my most treasured possessions. He gave it to me before he went on two tours in Vietnam. When the Iranians held our people hostage I told him I was going to enlist...without hesitation he said..."You do and I'll break both your legs!"
It was at that point that I knew "War IS hell"... we never spoke about that day ever again.
I too owe you an apology....I've been contemplating leaving the blog after this latest episode....when you attack good people like yourself and 626 this blog has clearly gotten the best of me....it takes a big man to admit when you're wrong but it takes and even bigger man to volunteer to fight a horrible war when there is NO DRAFT IN SIGHT.
If you could accept my apology I would be honored to send you and your mother to dinner.
My uncle once told me when he returned he knew I'd never lose that cap...one day a Marine who lived down the street lost his and tried to pull it off my head..I told him he's have to "kill me to get it!"...I was nine at the time and ballin my eyes out but he knew how much it meant to me.
Aaron you will always be in my prayers...May God protect and watch over you all the days of your life and may He comfort your mother in her time of need....you make the City Of La Verne proud and Bonita High School as well.
Time to volunteer my time to more productive activities.
humorous...first of all when I was visiting the Great Wall of China I saw a man crying and asked him if he was okay. He looked up and asked if I was from Bishop Amat after seeing the BIG A on my baseball cap. I said no I'm just a big fan and a friend gave me the cap. Then he said..." So you NOT from Bishop Amat?"....I said, "No....I'm a Damien Parent" he stopped crying and then screamed at the top of his lungs ..."THE WALL WORKS !!!!"
Now that was humorous....LOL
humorless..here's the train of thought...I'll use arrows to help us all along...
Sushine is a QB>>>>>Jerry Mac is a QB>>>>Watson is a QB>>>> was that a "reach" ????? lol...hope that helps...or as my Chinese friend would say..."rope that relps".....I'm here all week...(rimshot)
Jcaz....now that's humor...can you tell I write my own material?
Trust me, I did not mean to keep you waiting, but at this point in time I have lot of things to take care of before I have to leave home again. The fact that I've been able to see Bonita's season has been a blessing.
As I said it was more of thinking aloud than anything. It was not meant to insult you in any way, shape, or form. I'll be leaving soon after Bonita's playoff run is over to get back to work, I honestly did not know I'd have this amount of time at home to take care of things. But as you've been following the news I might be off sooner than I had hoped as the President is somehow mulling over the decision to send upwards of 40,000 more of us to Afghanistan. I will take you up on that offer, it just will not be as soon as you or I would have liked.
But back to football, I've enjoyed every single one of your posts especially the stories of your days at Salesian. Again I am quite sorry if you feel I've insulted you and acted the fool here.
626...I'll try one more time...now that I've cooled down...lol.
I have enough respect for Gano to know one thing...he doesn't tolerate fools lightly. Seeing as you play poker with him I'd suspect you're a nice man yourself and as I've said before 99.999999999999% of the time I agree with you and respect your opinion. Maybe I was a fault...wouldn't be the first time...lol.
Now that Gano has things on order I see less value in spending time in this blog and in all seriousness arguing with anyone. Life is too short. Besides as my long winded comments alluded to Damien still has a ways to go in the fairness department and with one last son trying to improve his basketball chances I'm doing him no favors being on here.
I hope Damien wins Friday but I think I'd rather see Amat take on an old Salesian coach....next year Damien games will be magical as Farrar and Bogan join the Sierra and Claremont looks to regain it's mojo.
Enjoy the blog 626...and sorry for calling you an AH...now about that Poker Game...lol
Amat 73...hey no problem, I'm used to it but when all the dust settles I'm usually right, lol. Like I told you before Amat 73..everyone @ Damien hated on me for calling out the truely pathetic lower level hires Morrison had and then I go to practices and every single Damien Dad is bagging on their lower level coaches now that they see Gano and Co. In fact Ramirez, probably our team MVP so far, was benched by Coach Jan for more than half the season because he wasn't good enough in his mind. Seen Coach Jan this year at a game and the look on his face said it all...he was embarrassed after seeing James tear things up on both ends of the field. Ask any defensive linemen's parent and they will tell you how much better every single practice is with these men. Hile was a nice man but he was no where near as qualified as what Gano brought in...that's not a slight that's a fact. Oline...please...at least NOW we have a running game and Guillen isn't running for his life..LOL. Across the board in spite of all the "baggers"...Damien is so much better off and no one typifies it more than our running back who averaged 40 yards a game in two years as the starter and now exploded on the scene and now averages almost 130 yards a game....my math is fuzzy but is that over three times as much? Considering the offensive lines Sainz ran behind before... that's really appalling.
I sit with his Dad and Grandfather almost every day and while he's probably Morrison's best drinking buddy and biggest apologists it's hard for him not to admit how much better things are now. He loves to tease me with comments like "It's Frank's blog" but between us two one truth is known..."You can't serve two masters"...Gano did for his son what Morrison could only promise but never deliver....quality coaching and an honest experience.
Amat 73 regarding my friend Aaron...just think about this for a second. What kind of smuck gets an unsolicited invitation for a "dinner for him and his mom," at one of best Steak House's in the city, in recognition of his service and unabashed love for his school and then comes into this argument and says something stupid like..."we should all recognize a FC comment by now"...only someone who believes the BS...like randy found out...it wasn't me really as much as it was the perception of me....oh and Aaron as much as I respect your service I'll teach you a lesson the military obviously didn't. "respect those that respect you"...you're on your own son. That dinner would have set me back almost $500 easy... plus limo...you're talking a cool grand....what did you think Aaron..I was lying? Would have been nice for mom's don't you think? You kept me waiting 3 months. Judge people by their actions son and not by what you hear or read....generousity has it's limits...apologize to your mother for me...I guess I'm petty that way.
Last comment on Damien...at yesterday's practice the best pure athlete on the field was a Freshmen....NO JOKE!!! Kid has all the tools to be a superstud...size, speed, quickness, physical strength, arm speed, beautiful release, unreal mechanics, balance, and on top of that...all the intangibles....plus incredible genetics and pedigree (don't ask...LOL) In my mind...if it wasn't for his age..he would have been a four year starter on Varsity...he's that good. Guess what...he played a game and a half at the Freshmen level without any justification and sat for 8 games behind players half his talent....wait HALF is too much...lol. He'll be a 4 year Varsity starter in baseball as well... great Dad, outstanding family...old school values. Damien is in for a great run...you heard it here first...lol.
I've always felt once Damien had a legit athlete...with a parent who was loaded....things would change and change quick...well that day is here.
End of rant...signed copies at Starbucks..lol
I must have pushed the wrong button on AMAT 73. No need to get defensive. I'll admit i jumped the gun on some of my comments, which I probably should of kept to my self. But what bothers the hell out of me on this blog,is that no matter the subject of the post. The conversation somehow becomes about AMAT or an AMAT fan/follower makes a simple post like Fred letting us know whether the Qb from Rancho was going to play, into something which doesn't even relate to the subject matter. This redirects or focus which should be on the post and not on the comment's. There are other school's in the SGV other than AMAT.
Lets get one thing straight I am not AMAT HATER!!
humorous,
The jokes on you buddy. None of those involved are AMAT people only followers of the program. You are the one who needs to get a life and quit think about AMAT or shall we add your name to the list of known haters such as werd up and so forth. For your information My Friend Sparta who I am glad to call my friend started the whole thing and just used J Mac as an example not so much as an articule on him but more as what the hell does a story on a athlete even though a fine one from a Central Los Angeles high school doing on the front page of the SGV Tribune. Now instead of bashing why don't you read a little more and be contstructive and add something if you are capable.
Yikes !
humorous...this didn't start with an Amat hothead opening his mouth...actually I made a comment to Fred and then the next 9 bloggers agreed with the original point of the craziness of having a non playoff Qb from Loyola featured before the SGV's first round playoff game....pretty straight forward point. Fred then came on an say it was over his head and out of his hands and ALSO AGREED that the timing was poor...again EVERYONE AGREED...NOT GETTING ANYONE ANGRY...
Then 626 comes on and makes the comment that bloggers were "crying and begging" for a story? Really? The man MISSED THE POINT ENTIRELY AND APPARENTLY MISSED FRED'S EXPLANATION AS WELL...up unti 626 stuck his nose in things everyone was fine and in agreement...I'm not taking the blame on this one!
My next post I actually tell Fred that "I'M STILL A HUGE FAN OF HIS"...so where is there any disagreement...plus I recognize the complexities of his job and acknowledge that there are MANY MORE stories worth WRITE UPS.
As I told 626..I picked Jerry Mac as an EXAMPLE OF A BETTER SUITED SGV STORY ABOUT A QB...SEEING AS HE IS QB TO ARGUABLY THE #1 SGV TEAM FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS....this year's Amat success only proves last year might be close 14 point sin my opinion but this year...I'd say Amat wins by 25 seeing as ND would destroy CO...in my opinion.
Yes I could have picked any number of other players/positions but SUNSHINE IS A QB AND IT JUST SEEMS APPROPRIATE...IS ALL!!!
Why 626 insists on being a gatekeeper is why I'm annoyed...especially when he himself "begs" for a feature on Adam M..."THAT STORY HAS ALREADY BEEN WRITTEN"...again I tell him..."I" was being a HOTHEAD and he still MISTAKES my words and goes for broke AGAIN?
Then he asks me to ask Gano...I tell him..."I wouldn't WASTE GANO'S TIME"...HE ANSWERS..."GANO ALWAYS HAS TIME FOR ME"...am I missing something????? That wasn't the point 626...I said..."I"..."I"..."I"...WOULDN'T WASTE GANO'S TIME ASKING WHO "YOU" WERE...again I don't care...again not to disrespect you 626...its just I really rather not know...what difference does it make...especially when I'm talking to Fred about a Tribune decision?
I've spoken to Gano ONCE...and ONLY ONCE...when the team was in a losing streak....all I told him was this..."DON'T LOSE FAITH IN "US"....THERE ARE PLENTY OF PEOPLE THAT SUPPORT YOU 100%...MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GIVE UP ON US"...and I said the same thing to the other coaches..."I believe in them, respect them and know they will bring a Championship sooner rather than later...plus they have conducted themselves with extraordinary class, honor and distinction...something previously in short supply in the Football program.
just sayin',
who is the one that started this whole thing? an AMAT hothead opening his mouth.
How many bloggers has Corona ticked off over the years?
ITS THE THE THE
humorous- the real humorous thing is we have a Damien guy, a Los Altos guy, and a Bonita guy goin' at it. It's not the Amat fans. THAT'S what's humorous. Joe Amat suggested an article on La Puente's turnaround, Amat 73 said CO's defense and tcbruin thought everyone needs to relax and wait for Fred's article on Amat to come out later this week. The Amat gang gets it - it's guys like you that get all worked up and jump the gun.
Its funny how every single post on this blog even if it doesn't relate to AMAT. Somehow becomes about AMAT.
GET A LIFE AMAT FANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Hothead
you are correct, i completely missunderstood, but as far as the interview, i take nothing back, in fact i agree Jerry had a super 2 years at QB for Amat,in my opinion, you sounded like a crying begging baby for an article, just my opinion.
As far as gano,he allways has time for me, just ask him, i was there with my notebook on all his mistakes they made the week before. lol.
and as far as me being an AH, i guess you do know everything.just as you !! you will tell you.
Frank,
I enjoy your posts, I'm not trying to stir the pot at all, honestly had no idea it was you until your response to 626. I have no qualms with you and as I said I'm not trying to stir anything up at all, moreso just pointing out who you were in case we get some drive bys. I like what your saying about Jerry after after having seen him play I completely agree and I've also put out reasons why he might not be getting the buzz he should receive.
Again not trying to be out of line, I enjoy reading your comments. I have not taken you up on that offer and will have to at some point, as being able to be home and watch Bonita's season although a bad one has been a blessing. I'll let you know on that though.
Again, that was more me thinking aloud and putting a name to the comment I suppose. Again no qualms here...except maybe with some San Dimas supporters, 'Cats will get them next year.
Neuheisels little boy, born with a silver spoon in his mouth and daddy's got him all ready to go at UCLA. I'm jealous, I wish I had a life on easy street. Nevermind I had to dig under the couch cushions to find change to buy that wonderful story. Thanks Tribune.
626...as I said...'I'M A HOT HEAD"...no where did I say YOU were....like I said..."hofefully this is over"...again...I said ..."I was venting"..no where did I say you were being anything but an AH...which your last post seems to imply...again I don't care who you are...you're saying I'm begging for a story...where did I beg? I don't have to ask Gano anything...too much respect for him to waste is time....and 99.999999999% of the time 626 for you as well as my history has shown....so in this case YOU can't be wrong? sorry but we can agree to disagree..you're wrong on this and Ill tell you why in person....seeing as I can't make you understand a point I was making to Fred...which he agreed with?...and that's why you're being a dck....understand? ...or is that not possible?
You answered me with..."so I'm teh hot ead"...well guess what...I was reffering to MYSELF...so I guess you're wrong right there.
now about that poker game...why not....like I said..."I was venting...I was being hot and I was the hot head"....maybe you need to read or I need to communicate better...either way....complete waste of time.
Now Aaron...aren't you a military man...or was that Brad? BUt if I remember correctly when you siad you were coming back to the states from being IN COUNTRY I said I'd treat you and your mom to dinner at Chris Ruth's in Pasadena...so I guess you want to label me as well....Being as the FranK Corona comments are so out of line...btw...did you ever take me up on that?
Go figure...Aaron you've been pretty cool at defusing attackers...so why pile on in a misunderstanding between me and 626....BTW...teh dinner still stands seeing as you came back in one piece after serving thsi country. I recommend the Cowboy Ribeye ask for Jean Claude...he;ll set you up on my ticket...
r2d2626bfd - read it again english major. he called himself a hot head!
"but than I'm a hot head and this should blow over quickly (I hope)"
ready - fire - aim!
r2d2626bfd - when you say "you guys" who exactly are "you guys"?
Your to funny-
You talk about me being a hot head, you used the words (fkn) and (ah), now who's the one taking this so serious? Cats meow??? you have no idea who i am, do you? ask greg, he will tell you.Im the one that goes with the flow, doesn't takes things to serious but do give my opinion. And your telling me im a hot head, you couldnt be further from the truth.tell you what, you come over and play at my next poker game with greg, you will see see how serious i am.on a scale from 1- 10, 10 being very serious, im about a 2.but it was a nice try. as far as gri-wilson parent goes, earlier the same day you posted i posted the same thing to him.I couldnt believe he let something like hs football affecting someone like that, hopefully hes over it and can direct his attention to wilson.and i believe he has.
So have a nice day and remembers
theres no beggers in football!!!
We should know a Frank Corona post when we see one.
626...seems everyone agrees it was bad timing (even Fred) and that there are other stories. (better suited to our community)...that was the "ORIGINAL" point. I picked Jerry Mac as an example of a better story (could have been any other but since it was a QB story I felt it was appropriate)...you like the AH you seem to be trying to be brought up Adam as if it was a contest...which it isn't. No one disagrees with my position and in fact can offer OTHER deserving front page stories ( Maybe some even one YOU approve of)...further proving the value of my original point...now 626...maybe at LA you are the cat's meow but here you're just another blogger...no better no worst....athough right now your tone makes you nothing more than an AH in my book....but than I'm a hot head and this should blow over quickly (I hope)
The audacity you have to conclude my comments, complimentary of a great individual, would some how be see as "begging". Begging for what? I'm am not connected with Amat...and you know that...so why would you even go there?
The point can and should be made though...that Jerry Mac HAS been OVERLOOKED...that's undisputable. Damien, which I am part of has gotten more ink before they won 2 games than Jerry Mac has after what he's accomplished over TWO SEASONS.
Like I said before...Gano is a Godsend for us so don't read anything into that....very surprised you would go there...especially as emphatic a fan as I have been of both LA and Gano..in fact I skipped a game just to see Felipe and yes ..he is doing a good job but as Gano has shown...too much of coaching unfortunately happens in the parking lot and in that area maybe Felipe needs the most help ( I shook his hand afre the game and told him to hang in there)...well that and shutting up GRI would help ..and I also tried to do that by seeing and complimenting his son and asking Wilson Parent (you now how he's no longer DRI) to "let it go"...hopefully he will.
I don't make outrageous comments sir...I "see" it for myself and THEN give my opinion. Now don't you feel stupid. ..what a surpising development you have become....done venting...not hot anymore...and if you see me at a Gano practice we can shake hands and more on.
The only thing I ever begged for was good coaches and guess what...."HE" delivered! lmao
Coach Pasq. has not lost a first round game in about four years the Tartans get this one done, looking forward to the YELLOW JACKETS!!! go tartans
To the Amat blah blah blah amat blah blah blah CO blah blah blah best blah blah blah, biggest blah blah my kid blah your kid blah blah wasn't this about a QB at Rancho? Amat blah CO blah SH blah blah Good luck to all!
Aaron
i agree, very bad timing, that doesn't excuse the crying and begging from you know who.
As far as Los Altos,
like i said earlier, were just a little worse than you guys, and as you know, that ain't very good.Felipe is staying put, in time he will do fine. And as you noticed this season, Wilson didn't get all the better players like the bloggers were saying on here before the season started. It will not be easy, and it will take a lot of patience but they will be back to a respectable program. The hard thing for the parents these days are, Los Altos has always had that wininng tradition, well, now there not nearly as good and what the parents don't want to believe is, the truth is.
The talent level is not near as it used to be. They can blame Felipe all they want, but its there own kids talent that is down. After saying that , yes, Felipe has made young coaches mistakes as all coaches do when there young and inexperienced. Good Luck friday
but i think its gonna be a bad one for you.
but at least your there !!!
Run for another hit of that pipe CRACKHEAD! Because in that drug induced dream state is the only place that SH even comes close to stepping on the same field with Charter Oak and Bishop Amat. Wait this is a JCAZ joke right??? Oh, ok then, LMFAO!!!!!
I think I just vomited.
Yes
i am from Los Altos, and Yes , they are begging for a story!!and like i said, Yes, Jerry has done a super job the last two years. That doesnt mean you get on here and Beg for a story. Not only that, you guys didnt even give it a chance, as you should know,Fred usually runs the stories on thursday and friday about the players.you just couldnt wait to complain. As amat 73 said , there are numerous stories that can be told.
Charter Oak- this decade
South Hills- this decade
Amat -08 -09
Charter Oak- coaching staff
South Hills- coaching staff
Amat - coaching staff
WTF i tought this was a Central division blog, not a wanna be amat blog. Amat hasnt done squat yes they beat ND and Bonnie, but playoffs is what matters and you haven't done squat in the past to warrant a win this year. Amat is out first round and mater dei will lose 2nd round. As far as jerry mac goes he could win as many games in league and preseason but when it comes to playoffs it is another animal. As far as I look at it Jerry has won all these games and nothing in the playoffs which is what really matters that all elusive CIF ring, which they wont win this year. BA players you might want to check out a football power South Hills and as far as CO goes your ass is out the door and we will destroy you guys. Too bad BA and CO wouldnt be able to take us down the way we are playing at this time of the season.
Run for the Hills athletes
rgd2626,
How's Los Altos going btw, I'm being serious here.
I liked the article on Neuheisel, however why wasn't it run at a different time than now, because obviously the guys LANPG thought it was a story. But they chose the wrong time especially since Loyola isn't going to the playoffs and that word space could have been used our own Prep section to cover the numerous amount of stories we have here in the Valley.
just sayin...absolutely correct.
I think 626 is a Los Altos guy and not a CO guy...am I right?
626...with all due respect...comparing the two is silly.
No one is begging....I thought you were smarter than that...apparently not.
No need to disrespect the only constant the past two years. Remember Amat was 0-1 and behind bigtime when he went into the game for that magical comeback.
Also how many comeback wins does "Adam" have? If I remember correctly I thought Golden and others did the majority of the damage in the Championship Game. Adam is big, strong and fast and no one will knock him....this is about one SGV QB getting zero ink in two years and looking at Sunshine for no reason...especially in the SGV Tribune...how is that "begging"?
You're dead wrong on this and I don't have a problem saying so.
FWIW - let it be said that the "beggars" aren't from Amat either.
fred
I agree about the aticle being in there. But this crying and complaining from the the two talking about Jerry is ridiculous.Yes he has had a super 2 years but he is not even the best player on his team, these guys are begging to get him a write-up, im sure thats not he would like it.If the is a feature on any single player in the S.G.V for there time on varsity, it is Adam Muema !

again, no knock on Jerry but a huge knock on the two beggers !!!!
Fred, I read the article and loved it, I pray he becomes a BRUIN if he is that good. Hell anythings better than waking up every Monday only to have that wonderful picture of Steve Rameriz staring back at you. I can't believe that Steves thoughts on the top 25 in college football hasn't gone nation wide, riviting stuff.
I am a big Jerry Mac fan myself after watching him two games this season. Obviously he is a great baseball player but I'd love to see someone give offer him a dual scholarship to play both. Yes I know he's signed already but if some D1 school that plays good football wants him, what do you say? I'd love to see him play football at the next level because I saw a great leader on the field. And as shown last week against Notre Dame he can sling it when he gets the call.
As far as why he's under the radar is that he runs a relatively conservative offense, Haggerty seems to run a ball-control offense and when you have Jay Anderson...why not. Something tells me all of you Amat fans just received a taste of what Jerry Mac can do when they opened up the offense last week against Notre Dame.
Like I said Fred...I'm a huge fan of yours and have been friends with the Robledo family since I played on the Soccer team with fellow Robledos way back in the mid 70's at Salesian.
What a terrible insult to all the San Gabriel Valley athletes. I cancelled my subscription today. Completely unwarranted. I will still pick up a paper here and there but this is clearly an insult to all SGV athletes and a worthless biscuit sent to UCLA Rick.
Maybe when bloggers say a story should be written or at least looked at a blog entry would be warranted...especially when the story writes itself.
Jerry Mac will go under the radar...hey I'm okay with that as long as the Amat faithful never forget him but to put "Sunshine" on here when he bet him in such classic fashion is like throwing Jerry under the bus.
Two fkn years!!!! All those big wins!!! Being a quiet leader in the face of all those obstacles!!! What can you say....when all you have is a blowhard like me singing your praises...some one has dropped the ball. Maybe the O Lu win should have told you he was a special leader/player...but no...he just carries the bags is what you're saying. Jerry Mac has been an exceptional example of an athlete who flies in the face of the "LOOK AT ME" athlete we have all come to know.
Fred ...how did Jerry Mac's story go unreported for so long?
Jerry keep doing what you do...your performances have been inspiring to say the least.
That article on JNeuheisel was in the LADN this past Saturday morning. So it is old. It was NOT written by FRobledo.
Everyone needs to relax and wait for Fred's article on Amat to come out later this week.
I will be honest with all of you, I had no idea that story was running either, it caught me by total surprise and all your complaints are warranted, it was the first thing I told Roger Murray at the Whittier paper. Why? And BTW, I was at Bishop Amat on Monday working on a feature for later in the week. All I can say is the Neuheisel story ran in all our papers, but I agree, the timing was bad. This is something you probably run before Bishop Amat plays Loyola, not when the Cubs' season is over and we're in the first round of the playoffs with our own local teams. As you can tell, Jill Painter is a Daily News reporter, and obviously the higher ups wanted it to run in all zones. Your complains are fair, you won't get an argument here, and I will share your feelings with the higher ups.
Their right Fred, I think the tribune blew that one, Jerry Mac would have been a better choice, especially going in against Mater Dei, besides who wants to hear about UCLA? Ooopps, sorry, did I say that?
I have to agree I was stunned to see a Loyola Cub on the front page of the SGV TRIBUNE. As the few before me have posted there are many ,many, many more stories on accomplishments by SGV athletes like the CO defense shutting out the league or the QB from Azusa , something other then to have to go to Central Los Angeles to find an athlete worthy of a huge and I mean huge write up on this young man. No knock on him as he is talented but to over look our fine young men and I just don't mean the Men in Blue but the whole valley is a true travesty. Since you Fred are the sports prep editor this must have gotten your approvel since it is a prep sport related topic. What gives here . Shed some light on the subject so we can understand the reason for a Loyola Cub on the front page of the SGV sport section.
The article is from the LA Daily News, however I agree with you on that one.
It doesn't matter if RC quarterback is in a wheel chair. The way pasqy runs that soft ass defence Glendora doesn't have a chance. Will someone tell him what a blizts is!
I have to say, I agree. When I picked up the paper today I thought I picked up an old edition that was laying around. Loyola? Is Amat playing the Cubs this week? St Francis? Are they playing anybody? Are they in the playoffs? Are they in the SGV? Does "Sunshine" even live in the SGV? I'm pretty sure this isn't Fred's call - but really Freddy ... go to war for your valley.
It's not like this isn't an important week in prep sports with a hundred stories from the many schools that made the playoffs... or even more stories from the schools that didn't and have kids whose careers are over. La Puentes turnaround under a first year coach is WAY under the radar. 1-9 to 8-2!. A Bob Woods tribute at an Amat assistant who passed away as a Lancer after spending years as the Mater Dei head football coach. Can Muir make a run like DR did a year ago? If Lou goes back-to-back... is this his swan song? There are a ton of local possibilities.. and we get Loyola?
THE single most out-of-place article I've ever seen on the front of the sports page. Ever!
I can't disagree more with the below blogger. Do a write up story on the Azusa Montview league champ QB or even the Sophomore CO QB or anyone else in the ESGV/WSGV deserving some ink.......but the Neuheisel kid from Loyola? Jerry Mac would have been a nice one for taking Amat back to the promise land.
BUT Loyola Neuheisel???? PLEASE FRED GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!!!
(FRED I'LL APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE IF I'M WRONG)
Fred...I must say, I was pretty disgusted when I sat down at my favorite donut shop to have my morning jalapeno and cheese bagel and saw a huge write up and photo of Loyola's "Sunshine" QB ...you know the UCLA linked kid.
If I want to see that kind of pandering I'll bust loose for the LA Times!!! WTH does this story have to do with the San Gabriel Valley (West or East-side) when you have Jerry Mac from Bishop Amat right in your own back yard!
Jerry Mac just signed with UCI on a baseball scholarship and after replacing a senior starter has only gone 15-4 in one of the toughest leagues in the country, helped resurrect a one proud program back to prominence and make all the big throws in all the big games against insurmountable odds.
Where is "his" write up? Didn't Jerry Mac actually beat the "Sunshine" kid this year? How many overtime games has Jerry Mac been involved in, how many "upset" wins has he been involved in, and didn't he just lead the Lancer in an unthinkable Serra League Title?
Few kids have operated so under the radar as this kid has. All year long I've waited for a Jerry Mac write to find out what makes this kid tick, how are his heroes and how it feels to be a great two sport athlete...and what do I get....some prepackaged "garbage" about a kid who already gets too much attention in this city.
Fred many bloggers have offered ideas or suggestions for stories...I know it's tough, I know you're understaffed and I know you're doing your best...and I will always be a huge fan of yours but...seriously...this is without a doubt an unforgivable oversight.
Some folks will say...Amat gets enough "pub" but if that's so than how come this kid, who by anyones measure is an outstanding individual and a big time gamer, is not being recognized.
As a former QB I can tell you every aspect of the game...from the time a defense is on the field, to the way the coach interacts with the team (and everything in between) is dictated by the actions and temperment of the "unofficial" leader of the team...the QB.
Fred I love your work and all you've done but today I was just hot as I could be at this....always a fan but this is ridiculous.
(God I hope I didn't miss a write up...lol)
Thanks Fred, there is no other high school blog on top of things like you're. We appreciate everything you do, keep it up. You have fans in the Inland Empire too, and hopefully you will cover us with Glendora going to the Baseline.
