Sunday Tribbin: Just wondering; South Hills and Charter Oak, Overconfident or Overrated?
Anything and anyone you want to talk about

Bishop Amat's victory over Mater Dei wasn't the talk of the office on Friday, it was the near-gigantic upsets of Charter Oak and South Hills, the top two teams respectively in the Southeast Division after ripping through league like it was just a formality before a long November run. South Hills didn't have quarterback Jacob Shirley because of an injury, which kind of explains the close call against Bonita, but how do they blow a 21-0 point lead with that defense, needing a late touchdown to pull out a 28-21 victory. Charter Oak was even more shocking, giving up a dramatic 30-yard touchdown with four seconds left, then stuffing a two-point conversion that would have knocked them from the playoffs for good. To answer the question, overconfident or overrated, I would have to lean toward overconfidence, simply because people like me pump these teams up so much, that you forget that teams like Bonita and Muir might just get ticked off enough to lay it like they haven't all year. When everyone's penciling you in the championship, you just want to get the first round over with, so emotions are not always what they should be. Overrated? No way, not with their body of work and how easily they dismantled other area teams, some of whom are still alive. It might just be a wake-up call, and the best thing to ever happen to them. How often do teams that win championships survive scares along the way? South Hills is more questionable because of their quarterback situation, but I stand by my prediction that these two will meet in the finals.

It all makes perfect sense now . KH self admitted mellon head. Now we can all see the reasons behind his wild posts. Not easy to think and write when you have to deal with all those seeds floating around in that pink mush he has for a brain.Maybe that's why the Rams left for St Louis.
KH - yeah, ex pro minor leaguer who wasted his talent and got thrown out of the game. My only point is YOU yelling at the kids from the sidelines had nothing to do with the rally. Stop taking credit...you are irrelevant!
fb
ever played football or any other sports.
am sorry but being a ex pro minor leaguer and high school CIF champion. the crowd dose play a hugh part and keeping players fouced. remember the mallon heads at anaheim the rams would come out for the third quarter and we would be right there pumping them up.dont tell me the fans have nothing to do with the game on the field.your just negitive so stop saying my name because am all positive in my life again clean and sober and love my life and my god,and thank god for k. c. my son. so get ready baseball coming
KH - u can yell all u want. dont really care. my point is that it had NOTHING to do with the bonita rally. you were and are irrelevant to the teams performance!!!
Bonita's a decent team, but SH should've still blown them out... It should've been 28-0 at half instead of 21-7, which is a big reason why Bonita came out firing thinking they had a shot... Which honestly they did, because they played a good 2nd half... SH needs to be a lot more creative, the fact that they had a mediocre QB playing was a big issue... All they did was run all night, Bonita eventually started stackin and stoppin the long runs... First half 2 50 yard runs by Vaughns, and btw pretty impressed with Vaughns... Although he didn't do much in the second half, the first half was monsterous... This kid goes both ways, it's hard to expect a huge game from this kid cuz he plays DB and RB... 30 carries and playin DB all night, that's probably why the efficency declined in the second half... Regardless this kid is very good, it seems like he's the whole team on offense... SH defense is pretty good all together... It's hard to believe this kid is doing everything when SH has so many athletes on the team... Share the wealth Bogan, give this kid a break... Passing a little more would help the situation... Or just keep Vaughns on offense, it's hard to be 100% playing the positions he plays...
I don't believe CO was overconfident, just played a real young & scrappy Muir team in the 1st round, that has the athletes capable of knocking off a 1 seed..
South Hills on the other hand..Waaaaay overrated!!
All we've been reading on the blogs this year is how ridiculously loaded they are and how with the Canada's they would be unstoppable.. The guru especially has pumped them up & we all know why that is..
FB what a dip $hit, so what if KH yelled at the boys. So what, if the coaches cant light a match under their butts then maybe the parents should step in.
So many parents get so uptight that a parent can yell at their kid to get them going. I wish I could walk on the sideline to kick my son in the ass to get going. KH your invited to come to any Glendora game to yell at our defense. We lost to Rancho because the coaches never ran tackleing drills and dont believe in blizting.
Condor,
I think we are playing good ball right now, if we
are focused and come out physical and our kids believe in each other I think we have a shot against anybody in this division.
I don't buy this CO being overrated just because of their tight game with Muir garbage.
I didn't see the game but I bet CO was keeping things simple, they didn't wan't to show to much in a first round game and it almost came back and bit them, believe me they will open it up this week.
Your Condors also seem to be playing their best ball at this time and look to be a legit threat,
pretty impressive win over La Serna, good luck this week, Burbank could be tough.
Neither Charter Oak or South Hills are over confident or over rated. It is what I have been saying in previous blogs, and they were subject to this analysis on Fridays 1st round of the playoffs. EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN AT ANY GIVEN TIME. Everything and Anything happened to them at the worst time. Just lucky they escaped with the wins. Next time they may not be so lucky.
where you at the game fb.
whats fb stand for fat baster.
sorry dude ,we where flat game would of been over.
i was yelling at my son because i can.
in bonita if you yell at one of these soft kids the parents will call ther school district on the coach..coaches have to kiss the kids butts..what a joke.i did whatn i had to do to get to my son to bring him up the compete.south hills has some big dudes out there .and you can say all you want that game in the fouth quater was bonita to loss and thats what we didi.three and out three and out .so kis my ass fb
KH - you are a joke. hahahahahahahahahaha. Yeah - the boys started playing because you yelled at them. Dude - stop thinking so highly of yourself. It was great punting by Evan and a coaching adjustment (probably the first of the year) of Bonita crowding the box and daring the BACKUP SH QB to beat them through the air. Not to mention the conservative play calling by SH with a 21 point lead. Yeah - KH, it was all you. Do the coaches a favor, stay away from the benches and stay off this blog.
CO over-rated, will not be in the championship, WC will accomplish what everyone knew all season long, WC,knock off the one man team. Sorry, CO it's the truth.
SH over-confinent, arrogant, stupid. At the sideline after easy touch downs, the kids were saying that bonita, Sucked, no good, too easy, its over. That attitude put them in the situation they ended with. If they continue playing like that, they're gone too.
Amat, I don't care if you have bloggers that put you in bad situations with everyone else. GOOD LUCK next game, win one for yourself, forget everyone else.
jcaz,
It is not a wicked sense of humor just a head up your azz sense of humor. If that is a greatest hit you are in serious need of a sense of humor because it is evident you don't have any sense of any kind.

The Southeastern final? Are you serious or are you just trying to piss off CO? Nothing like a little bulletin material for the winner of WC/CO. That game will be a war.
I assure you, Cal will not disrespect the remaining teams if they are fortunate enough to advance. How are you feeling about your chances Dan?
Amat coach Steve Hagerty gets interviewed by KCBS's Steve Hartman and Rashuan Haylock.

Look, CO could have easily lost this game but the reason wouldn't have been because they weren't the best team, which they were by a long shot. But, instead, they turned the ball over FOUR times...two INTs in the end zone, a fumble on the 25 and at the end of the game on their own 30. Muir did pretty much nothing on offense except for 7-8 plays highlighted by the three TDs...one on a 50 yard screen and the two others on long passes. I get scolded by my fellow CO supporters for asking questions but can't avoid wondering why with Keith Smith dominating Muir's running game and a 21-7 lead, why doesn't CO put in a nickel defense to take away the long pass? Come on coaches, why would you stay with your regular defense with single coverage on the corners when the only way for Muir to have a chance against the 4th quarter clock was to connect on a few quick long bombs…especially considering that they had a very good receiver?
here a little deja vu for u KH.

Are you going out to Cal Hi on Friday night to watch the Southeastern Final? Whoever wins it will win the Division...just ask Campa.
He he he...
It is a wicked sense of humor after all...
Jcaz your insane ! I just read your post from earlier today and I was like WTH. You need to find another avenue to vent your stupid sense of humor, if you can call it that.
jcaz,
Get over yourself and take your sick jokes with you. If you want to post jokes go to jokes.com this is a sport blog not a stage for some jackazz to try out stale material. Don't go away mad , just go away.
Pretty cool read from the Star News blog:
The Stang Fan said:
First things first........damn...Damn...DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, cool. Just had to get that one out. Ol' school "Good Times" reference for you new schoolers.
Muir Alum and Mustang Mom,
I hear you loud and clear. I do not disagree (at least with most of it.) There are A LOT of things I'd love to talk about from last Friday's game. Some bad, some good, and some great. But there's only one thing I'd like to focus on with this particular post. One thing that stood out among ALL of the other stuff that took place:
Heart.
For those of you who weren't there, let me tell you...it was something to see. Remember, we're talking about a 4-6 team with 3 league losses and two blowout losses against two top-rated teams. We're talking about a team who came in to a #1 team's house as a #16 seed. We're talking about a team who had, MAYBE, 100 fans in attendance (which includes the drum corp btw) against a packed house for the home team. We're talking about a team who appeared to be DWARFED in size in the interior by CO's hogs. We're talking about a team who was SEVERELY outnumbered on the sidelines. We're talking about a team who played more than three-quarters of their team both ways against a team that might've had 2-3 players going both ways. We're talking about a team who was dogged ALL WEEK by pundits (with the exception of Miguel) and fans who said they would be BLOWN to smithereens. We're talking about a team full of underclassmen playing against a team stocked with seniors. We're talking about a team who lost in the 1st round last year, playing against a team that won CIF last year. We're talking about a team who struggled mightily on offense ALL year long, playing against a team that hadn't given up a SINGLE POINT in over a MONTH. Lastly, and most importantly, we are talking about a team who was down by 20 POINTS with 9 minutes remaining in the game.
And these dudes fought. And fought. And fought. For 9 singleminded, hard-fought, manly minutes, these guys went to-to-toe with the champ the way only a doubted, relentless, battle-tested underdog could. I know many may claim me as simply a superfluous scribe who is putting a "little extra on it," as the kids say....but I gotta tell you man, I was overwhelmed with the way these youngsters dug DEEP and fought back against all the odds.
Down 20 to the champ, these guys who had been ragged on ALL YEAR long decided they had something inside of them to fight. At about the 8 and a half minute mark the offense scores. Folks in the stands, applaud graciously, as if to say, "Awww, good job boys. You actually scored!" But the Stangs didn't listen. They dug deep again. After going back and forth and stuffing the Chargers, they stripped the ball loose from a CO back and recoverd. A few plays later, and after a perfectly-called screen that went about 30 yards for a TD, the score was 20-13 with just under 3 minutes left. Again, the Stangs dug deep. And again they stuffed the Chargers. On 3rd and 6 CO ran a play action, and again a perfectly-called play, this time a blitz, pressured the QB who avoided the sack but was stripped of the ball by the surging d-end. Muir recovers. The 100 fans go wild on the visitor's side while the packed home crowd is hushed. The next 3 offensive plays were nightmares, and the Stangs find themselves with a 4th and 18, and basically a 4th and "turn your pads in." The next play was a perfectly thrown, perfectly run 30 yard toss that featured a perfectly laid-out WR who REFUSED to have his season end on THAT play. 20-19. Four seconds remained. Beyond awesome. Just 9 minutes before when everyone had wrote the season off...the Stangs dug deep. At about the 2 minute mark when the PA announcer thanked all who had come out for another "Charger vicotry"...the Stangs dug deeper. When they faced the end of their season on a 4th and forever, they dug their deepest.
There was NO way you go into overtime. You gotta go for two. You convert, and you shock the SGV. No questioning the call. Whatsoever. The Stangs came out and ran their play. This time the champ dug deep and answered the call...as only a REAL champion could. They stuffed the run with a dominant surge. Play over. No good. The home stands go crazy. Game over.
Mutual respect was earned, and shared. Tears were shed. Exhales were released. Congratulations were dished out. Consolation was doled. It was a great example of why high school football is played, and why it is an important fabric of our communities. Awesome. Just awesome
Congrats to CO, who showed true championship grit and held on for a tough win. Good luck in your quest for a repeat.
And to the Stangs, I'd like to congratulate you on a feat no one thought possible. You guys were 3 yards away from a shocking victory, but apparently it would have only been shocking to everyone outside of the locker room...because you guys believed. I have never been so PROUD of a Muir team as I was of you guys last Friday. With everything stacked against you, you believed in yourselves and you believed in each other and you fought to the bitter end. You showed HEART beyond belief and I couldn't be any prouder. Congrats boys.
fred like i said ,
you would not know,
you olny go to b.a. games.
bonita started out slow thats a moster team dude.
sh i am talking about boy what a offenses line my god, every players in over 6-2 255 easy. they kept running the ball right up the middle, thats where my son k.c. played ,middle linebacker.his nornal position will after watching godzilla drive k.c 5 yards back every play. i couldnt take it no more, they would of beat us by 50. at the covia field the players are almost in the stands.being the twevle player all year i had to do my job. sorry the t,c, rams came out of me .
ran down to the front row and unloaded on my son and the rest of the bearcats.it wasnt quite believe me .it work k.c. and the d started meeting the huskie hard up front and the tempo started to turn in bonitas way stuck them twice on the goal line and came out with two d td. 21 to 14 i cant talk today i left every thing i had in the stands..boy was it quite on the huskies side, then the d rose again this was are game to lose now we took the ball 70 yards on 5 plays to tie it up 21 t0 21 .then the refs called some horse crap side line call saying our players were to close to the field.i had a flash back of the cif balk call last year. well we stop them on the 5 yard line on 3 and 23 and they called k.c. for roughing the qb,..my god is this passing league or cif playoffs. well it gave them a first down and that running back just took the game on his shoulders..great game son looked like eric dickerson. am not going there with the refs they had there hands full all game s.h.is a very phyical team that the kind of atmophere bonita will need to beat a highly skilled team like the huskies . great job both coaching staffs am pulling for the huskys they will smoke c.o. there giants with to many tools.they do have alot of players going both ways and at the end of the third quarter the big guts were dropping like flys..
we didnt didnt win the game but next season i think where all in the same league.man that was some great football boys.keep your heads high and get to the gym.thanks coach podley and the staff for your long and hard hours.we owned the second half...
The fourth quarter certainly made the game a lot more exciting than I wanted. The Muir coaches opened up their offense and the Mustangs executed. Muir played hard and well the whole game.
Why isn't there a little more hindsight criticism of the decision to go for two? In the stands, I was happier that they went for two. The Muir scores had been on long plays. I felt that CO had a decent chance of stopping one play on a short field. I think overtime would have favored Muir.
What a boring game until the 4th Quarter. CO was in control the entire game until the 4th came along and it was down hill from there. Muir was desperate towards the end and it showed they put some good runs together and made thing happen. I will say this Keith Smith is the best linebacker in the SGV hands down. He made the stuff for the 2 point conversion behind the line of scrimmage "WOW" What a play! Im glad CO had a scare like that early and realized that they are vulnerble if they dont step on the other teams throat and put them away. CO coaching is amazing they never seem to stray away from the basics and still seem to come away with the win. Adam Muema POY if it wasn't for him in the back field we would not be here today. AJ Powell and Brandon Golden are two of he hardest hitters in the Valley. AJ will lay the hat similar to Cazares at BA. BG is just so versatile he is a great cover guy on defense and first play he goes in for on offense he scores a touchdown.
I would say they are a little overrated and can be beat.
A team with a good passing attack will beat them
AKA Schurr might give them some problems.
On D their front seven is good take 1 kid off there D line # 9 and they become an average Defense
On Offense take away their cut back lanes and they will struggle .
It sure would be nice to see them in the finals
GO BULLDOGS
Oh Freddie, I'll take this one.
Here's what I noticed about Big Lou in my years and years of covering Trib preps, he doesn't tip his hand in the first round. Close calls are nothing new for CO in the first round. Happened a couple times that I remember, but yet the Chargers were in the semis or finals a few weeks later. I'm telling you, Big Lou keeps it plain in the first round so people do exactly what you're doing -- start thinking they're vulnerable. Just my two ...

NOT WORTHY OF A PUT DOWN...
At one time, Fred chose Charter Oak in a head to head matchup w/ Bishop Amat. Forget about Bishop for now. What has happened to Charter Oak? They should have dominated both Diamond Ranch and Muir. They barely escaped both games. South Hills is another overrated school. You cant claim greatness and then get manhandled by Bonita. This is why the Guru talks about the IE all the time. Corona Centennial, Redlands East Valley, Norco, and Redlands are giant strides ahead of any Valley school.
I thought I’d go back into the archives and repost a joke that I put out there maybe about a year or so ago. Call it an oldie but goodie, or maybe even a JCAZ’s “greatest hits???.” Ha ha ha.
Subject: Qantas
After every flight, pilots fill out a form called a gripe sheet, which
conveys to the mechanics problems encountered with the aircraft during the
flight that need repair or correction. The mechanics read and correct the
problem, and then respond in writing on the lower half of the form what
remedial action was taken, and the pilot reviews the gripe sheets before
the next flight.
Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humor.
Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints and problems as
submitted by Qantas pilots and the solution recorded by maintenance
engineers. By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never had
an accident.

a few things co has to realize...
when your the defending champ your circled in the summer as the big game of the year on everyones schedule and your gonna get the best effort of players and coaches
and when your in the playoffs teams and players are playing for survival...its a whole diff kinda beast
there going to be fine...the wc co game will be close and may the team that can stop the run win
Both. To both of them.
I can understand how most folks would look at Muir's record and wonder how in the HELL did they have a chance to win at the end, and how in the HELL will CO win another title if 4-6 Muir almost beat them?
However, the reality is Muir isn't your typical 16th seed. This was a very young team that had a LOT of potential and battled through some tough games. Their defense was always there, but the offense lacked a little something all year, until the last few games. There aren't JUST very good athletes on this team, but very good football players.
I'm not sure when the last time a 16 seed defeated a 1 seed, but I'd mentioned on the blog earlier this week that Muir would have a great shot. While CO was in control for the majority of the game, the Stangs were in striking distance the entire time. CO's championship mettle shone brightest on the two-point conversion as their defense BLASTED through to end the game, and congrats to the Chargers on a hard-fought game.
But I think it would be ignorant to write off the Chargers because they almost lost to 4-6 team, because the reality is, Muir was a good team that gelled late in the year, and will be one to reckon with next year, as the majority of the team is made up of underclassmen.
Again, congrats to CO and much luck on your quest to repeat!
Charter Oak, definitely over-confident as Muir was charging in the second half and was an extremely dangerous team to whoever got them.
South Hills, maybe not over-rated as much as I believe Bonita's record does not show how good of team they truly are.
