Tribskin Pick'em, your predictions and ours

Bishop Amat coach Steve Hagerty has his sights set on Crespi next. Once again, the Lancers will be on the front page Friday night, and we will have scoring updates for those who can't make the trip.

Steve and I will go head-to-head throughout the season. Here is our updated records on the Tribskin Pick'em thread.

Robledo: Last week/Total: 17-1/129-36
Ramirez: Last week/Total: 15-3/118-47

Last Week: For those who say I can't pick games, look at the overall record, that's almost an 80 percent winning percentage. I would have gone 18-0 if not for Glendora upsetting Chino Hills on Matthew Kerman's game-winning field goal. Steve lost two more by taking Rowland over West Covina and Bassett over Sierra Vista. There is no way he can catch me, an 11-game lead with two weeks before the playoffs. I can start making my dinner plans, which of course is on Stevie.
This week: With 16 games, I'm singling out four, which means the other twelve are locks. Let's start with Bishop Amat. Eight is enough. They will lose at Crespi this week. The Lancers haven't had to play anyone this talented on the road, having played close to home in other road wins against Diamond Ranch, Damien, West Covina and St. Paul. Calpreps lists the Lancers as a 30-28 winner, but don't count on it, the Lancers' best bet is returning home and knocking off Notre Dame in the finale. I like Covina to knock off Pomona for that third playoff spot. The Colts have played tougher opponents, and have the offense to get it done. Take South Hills over Walnut. The Mustangs will go 7-3 and miss the playoffs, unfortunate but a reality of having four strong teams and only three playoff spots. Finally, take Diamond Ranch to clinch a playoff spot in the Miramonte with a win over Los Altos. The Conqs just can't seem to win the big one.

I'll have to ask and also go to practice. Given what Pendleton did last week I'd say the job is his...but that also has with me wanting Highley where he was a very effective weapon as a two way player at Safety and TE.

Can you tell me if any of the injured Bonita players will be back and available this week? Who will be the Qb this week?

Good Luck to Bishop Amat on Friday. Hope Crespi puts out enough bleachers for the Visitor Side and provides us with a good snack bar as this is the game for you to make some money as we Parents/Fans travel with our team. Get that 50/50 raffle going, Amat always win.

Joe,

The Sunset league is the one that concerns me. Keep in mind that Newport

Harbor lost against teams with a combined record of 29 wins and 3 losses.

So Newport's losses are not as bad as they appear.

Reality Czech,

You cold SOB. 8-0 and you cannot cut us some slack.? That is down right awful of you to post that. This Amat team was supposed to be rebuilding this year and have surprised almost everyone, for you to come in here with that BS is low, very low. These are teens throwing it out there on fridays not adults and you knock them. Dude you are not right. Think about how immature your post looks.

The truth is I am a jelous amat hater. I wish I played D1 ball and sat home most of the play offs lol. Hags cant win the Derby with a Donkey of a school. Bridge Town is pathetic.

Clearly Amat wants to win out and get as high a seed as possible and avoid an early matchup with the likes of Edison, Mission Viejo or Servite. If they do - so be it. It will not be much different than St Bonnies, Loyola, or the two remaining opponents. But the only way to approach this thing is to look at whats right in front of you - and that's the opening kickoff at Crespi, who will be tough. Then play your best each and every play until we see what result we get. If they do that, it'll be the result they deserve. Then you do it again next week.

Crespi's 4 losses are to Bonnies, Alemany, ND, and Servite. You can't use the standard SGV criteria of record to judge the Celts. You have to use that Amat/Pac5 standard - they've played the best and played them tough. It's not like playing just any 4-4 team.

However, if either Amat or Notre Dame finishes 1-2 and in the Serra #3 spot they will get the At-Large bid. There are very few reasonable scenarios where any team from the other 5 leagues that would have a better resume than either BA or ND.

No one from the Trinity or the Moore Leagues that finishes out of the money would be chosen before them , in the South Coast Mission Viejo would have to lose to Dana Hills AND San Clemente, And anyone else wouldn't fit either . The Sunset league could have a scenario where Los Alamitos drops out of the automatics and finish with only 2 losses - but their loss to Newport Harbor hurts and they would also have to lose to Esperanza - both worse than any Serra 2 losses.

So at least an 11th game appears to be sewn up - but you want to go into the playoffs playing well. I thought after getting better each and every week, Friday was the first time we slipped a bit. Maybe that had something to do with Loyola... or as 73 pointed out - maybe it had something to do with a less than stellar week of practice that Hags pointed out before the game.

You gotta bring it every day and every play... that's the only way!

Aaron,
Thanks for the kind words. It is truely amazine about these haters isn't it.I can see bashing the Faithful who come on here and post but to knock these athletes and what they have done so far is ridiculous. Talk and call us all the names you want but at least show a little respect to the team for what they have done so far. That was a hell of a game on Friday and if not for the team unity and staying the course and believing in themselves Loyola might have pulled it out .The great moves by the coaching staff put them in position to win and they went out and got it. That was a great defensive stand when Loyola was deep in their end of the field and we got lucky wiht that short punt. Loyola is an outstanding team who could knock either Crespi or ND off .Hopefully the Men in Blue come out victorious against Crespi and continue on the path to a league and CIF title. I don't think a Crespi victory is as easy as Fred seems to think it is for them. Hopefully they AMAT learned something last week as far as not being fired up for the opponent in front of them as it appeared last Friday. Hags did mention something to the effect of not a good week of practice last week and it showed on the field. Maybe they were looking past Loyola to Crespi which in this league is a sure way to a loss.

The Serra league has to be one of the most competitive leagues in the southern section. Any one of these teams can win on any given day. Amat and Crespi is going to be a toss up. Hopefully Amat comes out ahead. I don't believe 1 win in the Serra is going to cut it. If any team in the league wants to make the playoffs they are going to have to win 2 games.

Fred keep the predictions coming. That's allright with us Amat Faithful, we don't hate you for predicting an Amat loss. The game still has to be played one game at a time. And Amat, well Amat is Amat. We have our ups and we have our downs, just ask any other Serra League team. What we won't do is lie down and quit. These boys are proven winners and have no quit in them. We are peaking and maturing at the right time (last week was an anomoly) This game will be a huge dogfight, but I still think we have all the tools to beat Crespi at their home turf.

Amat 21 - Crespi 17

Aaron said:

If Amat goes 10-0 expect them to go further than the first round, beyond that you do get into toss-ups unless it's a juggernaught. Amat has played sound football on defense, spectacular on special teams and is starting to get that offense up to speed. Game against Alemany shows you what is in store and what they will need against Crespi.

Having been to an Amat game I don't get the haters anymore, makes no sense as it is just jealousy. I hope Bishop Amat runs the table and plays for a state bowl and wins, that won't signal that Bishop Amat is back. What it will signal is that this was a special season where the kids and coaches put into work along with the strong support of the community. But if it happens it will be beginning of something very special in the SGV as it has been a long time. I wish Amat as much luck as possible the rest of the season.

Freddy-

Nice of you to put in the Kermanator's name in this listing. I mean it was only the two biggest kicks of his career (so far) that you screwed his name up on. Much love, for throwin it out there again.

I can't wait to introduce myself to you in March at the Glendora Tourney. BTW- I am the one who owes you dinner for your picks (or lack there of) on the GHS softball team during last years playoff.

As for "Stevie" buying you dinner for your picks this season, so he'll be out $5.49 or so for a double double combo, don't forget the icee from AM/PM.

Predictions are just that predictions and Fred Picking Crespi is not a bad choice seeing they are at home for this one. The thing one must not forget is Amat has been playing well on the road (Forget about game two vs WC)Damien, Dranch, St. Paul. Amat played high energy well prepared football away from Kiefer on those nites. I see Amat going to Crespi with that same frame of mind. The scary part is I also agree they were flat and tight playing the Loyola game, of course they would be pressure builds as you do not want to lose your first league game. They pulled it out but as the Serra league is made up of four teams all teams are very good and there are no gimmes here. (anyone can beat anyone) Most think ND will take care of Loyola this Friday dont be so sure, anything can happen. ND got by on that last second 50 yard field goal, if not, they are 0-1 and Crespi is 1-0. did not happen,, same can be said about Amat, if Amat does not tie the score going into Half time they also could be looking at 0-1. Dogfight to the end and the Crespi game will be just as close where it can swing a victory to either side. Aside from what Fred predicted I am picking Amat here, I believe they are that good and what you saw against Loyola was a unrelaxed team. Now that they have been through the first test the next game will be a little more of team flow. Would that not be a big game to have Amat and ND at the the end of the season both 2-0 in league play and playing for the Serra league title at Kiefer. One at a time.

Amat 24
Crespi 21

How to beat Bishop Amat...

out score them in regulation

make sure Fred picks them to win

last but not least get in touch with the sgv guru

i know a few of you were hoping for an X and O break down but Bishop Amat isn't that tough to beat as long as you follow these three easy steps

you're very welcomed

Wow!!! This game is scary. Crespi has played one of the toughest schedules in the state so their 4-4 record is not indicative of how good they really are. Add to that to the fact that they are 0-1 in league and you have a team that is going to be playing for their playoff life.

Amat has the tools to win. The coaching staff will be ready. Amat fans will travel, even though its a trek to the Valley(I know I will). Should be another great Serra league game. If we come out flat against Crespi like we did Loyola we will not stand a chance, Crespi's aerial game will put up more than fourteen points. After last weeks fiasco against Loyola I highly doubt Hags and company will allow a repeat of that slow start.

In the end, Amat wins a close one 24-21.

Go Amat!!!

BAHSlancers Author Profile Page said:

Fred,

Im actually glad your taking Crespi in this game. In every game that you've said Amat will be beat, they end up pulling it off. Last weeks game against Loyola was Amat coming out a but flat. I don't believe a true measurement of the Lancers true play.Expect coach Hagerty to have the boys ready to go.

I also believe that you're forgetting that Amat have two mutual oppenents whom Amat has both beat, and Crespi has both lost. (St. Bonaventure and Alemany). Don't you believe that has anything to do with it.

I also think you're over estimating the whole "playing on the road" aspect of this. Despite the hour, hour and a half drive (depending on traffic) the Amat family and faithful will make the trip ou to the game. Expect a strong presence.

Its a magical season for these boys... But it hasn't been as much "luck" as some people may believe. Its the hard work and determination that these guys have put in. Look for this to be the determining factor in this game. It is going to be a war, and I believe a pretty close game, but at the end of the night, look for the boys in blue to come home with the Victory.
