Tribskin Pick'em, your predictions and ours; Robledo goes a perfect 16-0 last week
Steve and I will go head-to-head throughout the season. Here is our updated records on the Tribskin Pick'em thread.
![]()
Robledo: Last week/Total: 16-0/145-36
Ramirez: Last week/Total: 14-2/132-49
Last Week: For those who say I can't pick games, I repeat again, look at the record. In the past two week's I'm 33-1 after going 16-0 for the first time in history. Talk about getting in playoff mode, I'm so hot right now, don't go against me :) Steve was not bad at 14-2, but he was foolish enough to take Bishop Amat over Crespi and Pomona over Covina, two games I called precisely.
This week: On Thursday, Glendora can knock Ayala out of the playoffs with a victory, and they will, guaranteeing themselves a playoff spot and a Sierra League tri-title. We saw what Pasqy did with a week to prepare against Chino Hills, expect the same. Bishop Amat has not lost at home in the Hagerty area, and this is just the spot they need to pull off another big signature win against Notre Dame. I've got the feeling again, the Lancers are going to pull this off. The only major question is if they lose, will they get the Pac-5 at-large playoff berth? From what I hear there is no guarantee. Talk about nervous time. After what I saw South Hills do against Walnut, there is not way I'm going against them against Rowland, the Huskies win the San Antonio outright. Finally, the Valley Vista league showdown goes to San Dimas. Zernickow said he believes the Saints have never won a game at Baldwin Park. This is the time. BTW, I haven't decided which is the game of the week, but I'm down to Amat-NDame or San Dimas-BPark.
This weeks games and predictions

SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GLADSTONE PLAYERS CRY TOO MUCH OVER THE DAMN AZUSA GAME THAT HAPPENED WEEKS AGO.. YOU GUYS END UP LOSING FOCUS AND LOSE ANOTHER LEAGUE GAME TO SOMEBODY ELSE LIKE YOU DID TONIGHT
IT SEEMS AS IF THE ONLY GAME GLADSTONE FOOTBALL PLAYERS CARE ABOUT IS THE AZUSA GAME... THAT IS VERY DUMB... THEY ARE STILL ALL WORKED UP AFTER THAT AZUSA LOSS WHICH HAPPENED WEEKS AGO!... YOU GLADSTONE PLAYERS SHOULD BE WORRYING ABOUT YOUR NEXT OPPONENTS INSTEAD, THAT IS THE REASON YOUR PROGRAM HASNT BEEN SO GREAT THESE PAST COUPLE SEASONS... I SERIOUSLY HOPE LA PUENTE ROLLS GLADSTONE TONIGHT
Didn't the gladiators score (their only score of the night) after the lights went out. I could of swore i remember seeing the scoreboard at 3-0 when the lights were off, cuz that was the only thing in the stadium that was on. Gladstone didn't take their lead until the lights went back on, and they maintained that lead until the forth quarter. Remind me how the Aztecs used the lights going out to their advantage...
Breezy;
You've got a pretty good memory! (COACH)?, by the way do you remember the score?, yes I believe it was 12-0, AZUSA, and that game had around maybe 10 fumbles and was a very sloppy. As to the guy who was filming the game at the OLD WAREHOUSE SUPERMARKET STORE, before the Mexican store took over (haha... don't say that never happens, because I can remember quite a few times when Gladstone Coaaches would be at the AZUSA games filming, so I believe that's the normal thing to do, and all the schools do it!
So your little spy at the Market probably had nothing to do with AZUSA winning in 06. Breezy you know what's funny, nobody from Gladstone doesn't bring up last years score 51 to 14 AZUSA, and talks about any theories in that game??? Why not, because that was Gladstones worst loss to AZUSA, as far as they go back! Unless you can prove me wrong. AZUSAS team last year was a great team and had one of the best season's in AZUSA history in the last 35yrs. That was a great team with alot of talent. Will have to see how far this team goes and I hope they go far! Their defense is pretty good and have some fast linebackers.
I'm not going to lie and say Gladstone didn't look good when the game started, and actually were moving the ball at will. But for you to say the lights change the whole outcome of game is preposterous! You play the game for (4) quarters and not just the few minutes of the game! AZUSA seems to come off the blocks sometimes pretty slow, but when they finally get moving and settle down they're dangerous! Maybe,Maybe not the lights change the momentem of the game, but in reality Gladstone was winning when they went into halftime and AZUSA was actually losing, so much for the light theory!
In my opinion, the reason why Gladstone lost was because thier Quarterback was completely out of gas towards the end of the game, and actually help AZUSA win the game in their drive at the end, when he pulled a face mask! He had no control of the ball and was completely over throwing his receivers and ALSO throwing the ball in the ground! He should have never played Defense in that type of big game! He actually didn't even finish the game because he pulled himself out! Gladstone after the half could do nothing, and AZUSAS defense wore him out, and that my friend is not called a (THEORY)!
IT'S CALLED (DEFENSE TAKING OUT YOUR QB)!!!
AZUSA AZTECS MONTVIEW LEAGUE CHAMPIONS (BACK TO BACK) I'M JUST SAYING REALITY!
2009 2010
Breezy, first of all azusa was the away team and gladstone was the home team.....so how could they have turned the lights off smart guy!the timers were not set right because it was a thursday game! and second you are telling me just because the lights went out azusa got to regroup...what??? if you know football, and it seems to me that you dont, thats what good teams do MAKE Adjustments!!! you may have thought they dominated azusa in the first 8 min of the game, but did you forget AZUSA OWNED THEM THE REST OF THE GAME!! and if you think Gstone dominated azusa, Obviously they dont know how to finish a real Football game!! Thats just a "theory of mine"
I got a little story for you all... In the 06 football season.. Gladstone would meet Azusa in their first game of Regular Season... 9 years before this, Gladstone had beaten Azusa every single year... The previous day prior to the game, while practicing, a camera man was spotted by the fence near "El SUPER!!" (haha)... this dude clearly said with his own mouth "F*** Gstone, is all about azusa!!".. and ran way.. the next day Gladstone lost to azusa...
with this being said... I'd like to propose a "theory"... idk if you guys know but.. in this years game.. the lights went out just when Gladstone was dominating azusa.. before the lights went out azusa looked lost, dominated, and pretty much choked up... so, Im not saying anything here, not pointing fingers.. but what a coincidence.. that those lights went off in the perfect moment (in the view of an Aztec fan)... when the lights came back up.. and the game went on.. azusa looked as if they had obviously done some changes.... they used this time to regroup... but why did the lights, on this special occasion, went off?? thats all im going to say...
Gladiator, do you even know what the word Fluke means???? maybe you think it means you had NO Chance! at any rate, you should consider your team lucky that azusa had a slow start. with that said....they STILL WON!!! Also note that if they had been ON, your team would have really took a beating, besides when you lose to LP tomorrow, You will not get past 1st round in the playoffs!!! so i guess that means you wont get to cry about losing to azusa until next year!!!!
I don't remember Gladstone mentioning anything about last years score? WAS THAT A FLUKE! ALL THAT MATTERS IS SCOREBOARD AT THE END!
MONTVIEW LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!
2009,2010 BACK TO BACK!
AZTEC PRIDE.
I REMEMBER BACK IN 2005 AZUSA LOST TO GLADSTONE A YARD SHORT... I DON'T REMEMBER AZUSA EVER COMPLAINING SAYING THE GAME WAS A FLUKE OR CRYING ABOUT ANYTHING, AZUSA NEVER SAID A WORD.... GLADSTONE PLAYERS GET OVER IT PLEASE
Gladiator
You are right it was a fluke. The thought that you guys were ever in that game blows my mind. To think Azusa almost gave one away. But even on a slow night, Azusa was victorious. Now, get a tissue for those tears.
DHSVET, listen crybaby in Morrison's six years at Damien he never once threw the ball to the TE more than 13 times all year, including playoffs!
Hernandez had 7 in 06
Talmo had 8 in 07
Capraro had 13 in 08
That's just the past three years when Scotty really opened up the passing game and let'er fly, lol.
Please don't embarrass yourself trying to tell Gano how to coach...it's bad enough he has to teach two and three year Varsity starters fundamentals from "scratch"!!!
Stay positive! Hug a tree!
azusa. that night was a fluke. Gladstone is over it thats why they would love to meet azusa in C.I.F.
If it rains on thursday and friday as they say it will, how much will this affect Amats and Notre dames game plan?
Of course Amat will come up with a better game plan, they have the experience in the coaching department. Will that be enough though?. Amats defense is very geared towards stopping the run and that has been successful. Crespi exposed Amat weakness and that is defending the pass. Loyolas Neiuheisel was picking them apart and Crespi centered their game plan around just that, throw on Amat and you can beat them. It happen (the loss) Hats off to Crespi and their coaching staff. Notre Dame and their Qb will throw the ball you can bet on that. Talent wise the players in the Serra are pretty much even so it does come down to coaching. Notre Dame runs the option, Amat can stop that. When in obvious passing downs Amat must put more pressure on the ND QB with more blitzes coming from different directions. Coach Difiori must call a better defensive game then he did vs Crespi. The offense can score points and the defense is solid at times but now that a weakness has been discovered in the secondary and pass rush look for Amat to change things up. This is a playoff game for Amat. Amat loses and does not get the at-large bid, what a sad ending to a promising team. After Loyola threw on Amat, you would think the staff would anticipate Crespi coming out throwing with their Oregon bound QB. No adjustment in that defense. Amat 1)stop the run. 2.) worry about the pass on 3rd down only. Adjustments will be made but will it be enough? One thing is for sure Another nail biter and exciting game at Kiefer win or lose this friday. Could this be the last time we see the Lancers play this season?
history lesson number two....
how about ray rodriguez? he was a flat out stud and if you google his highlights you'll choke on your words
how can people even think Gladstone is that good this year???? like someone else said below a fumble and a droped ball or the score would have been a lot different in azusa's favor....azusa kept Gladstone in the game and they STILL COULD NOT FINE THE ENDZONE....Glastone had NO offense at ALL azusa owned them on defense and offense and that QB they have was nothing special!!! So gladstone fans stop being babies!!! YOU LOST AND NOW YOU WILL LOSE TO LP!!!
AMAT IS LOSE AGAINST ND THEN IF THEY GET LUCKY AND MAKE PLAYOFF THEY LOSE AGAIN IN FIRST ROUND. JUST LIKE LAST YEAR. AMAT SUCKS. WERD UP
Crespi outplayed Amat plain and simple. But you guys are right on when you say we didn't get any pressure on Bennett. Our secondary is nowhere near as bad as they played Friday night. Receivers were wide open and it seemed like we blew a bunch of coverages. That's just what I thought. Still no excuse, because they beat us fair and square. We will not have another defensive game like Friday. Notre Dame will be tough and they've whacked us a couple times, but Amat will be ready to play and have a great defensive game plan for this one. Also, even in defeat, we were one block away from Johnson taking a couple kickoffs back. Cazares is going to destroy some people this week.
DHSVet - Sean Cody was one of the most effective and best used tight ends in SGV history when he played for Gano at Los Altos - AFTER he got out of Damien! I think Gano knows tight ends - when he has a good one.
FredJ
San Dimas beat Baldwin Park @ BP at least once in the late 90's.(Under Clarke) 9-6 OT game on GW winning FG by Scott Ehret. I believe they beat them another time the year they went to the semis and lost to Bonita. Lost 2 games in league that year, Northview & Bonita.
GLADSTONE FOOTBALL PLAYERS REALLY THINK THINGS WILL GO THEIR WAY BY THEM COMMENTING ON THIS BLOG..... NOTHING WILL CHANGE WHAT HAPPENED ON THAT NIGHT KIDS..... GET OVER IT....... IF YOUR SCARED GO TO CHURCH
Thats funny
Sgv's "best" athlete comes on to the message board saying how great GLADSTONE is. my guess is the Sgv's best athlete hasn't seen a single play of Gladstones and could care less. Whoever this boy is still whining about a loss 3 weeks ago needs to go prepare for his first of two straight losses to close out the 09 season (probly watching from the sidelines) and put on his basketball shoes so he can ride the bench in a gym (or is that a chair).
Hey Gano: the Tight End lines up next to the tackle on either side. The Tight End adds another dimension to an offense. You've neglected this position all year. Please re-read your "High School Football Coaching for Dummies".
fred good job.remember earlier in the week i made bonita 36 point favorite, we covered,go bearcats.
Thats true Joe & Witness, you gotta have the pressure on the quarterback, I thought I read somwhere on the internet that ND's line isn't as big this year, if so maybe it will be a little easier to get to Kasadorf than it was to get to Crespi's QB.
Must give credit to the Crespi front O-line. These boys were big and didnt allow their QB to be touched much and they played with attitude. That front O-line is a big part of Bennett's(Crespi's QB) success. Bennett also played right corner. I felt that Amat should have ran to his side much more and let Jay Anderson put a helment in his chest. Point is, the defense needs to harass the passer and knock him down a few times. Cant let the QB stand their for 5 minutes and look for a reciever. So dont put some much blame on Amats DB's.
Boys, please try to it for what it is. Azusa played their worst game of the year. Still came out victorious. If Azusa had played that poorly against La Puente they may have lost. If you watch the play on tape or were there in the end zone when it happened you would know. The Azusa runner was down at the 1 foot area, after he was down the ball squirted out of his hands when he was hit late. No one reacted for a second because all the players(both sides) knew he was down, then a Gladstone player jumped on the ball. case closed. Azusa wins again!!!!!!!!!!
Dan,
Analysis is right on. The Lancers definitely need to play great in the secondary ... and a little more pressure on Kasdorf will be good too!
I hope Amat wins this week but I think they will be in trouble again. The reason
is that I believe Notre Dame has a great passing
game just like Crespi did. Amat is 8 & 0 because of their run stopping defense. They swarm to the ball and don't miss their tackles. Crespi was a mismatch for Amat because of the QB and the recievers Crespi has, they are great in the passing game, from what I heard Amat was beat in the secondary all night. I believe Notre Dame passes just as well as Crespi with Kasadorf[spelling ?] and company. Hopefully Hagarty can come up with a good pass defense this week that will limit the Goldennights and their pass attack, homefield advantage could come into play for Amat as well. Good luck Lancers.
it would a sin if amat dosnt make the playoffs
have faith you guys will make it
i dont know but to me its starting to look like i said the teams playing up in pre season are the on who are starting to kick some booty.bonita and damien two teams very quite for awhile now watch if we both win next week and b.p.loses we should without a dount leap frog. bonita am talking about, into the top ten ahead of the team we have already beat thats ok becauce have of the top ten teams will be gone after first round.
Gladstone dominated Azusa. Hope to meet them in C.I.F for an easy win. Azusa is scurred.
gladstone's defense made azusa fumble. The ref was out of position, the ball sailed over the azusa kids head, ref felt bad for azusa getting stopped on fourth down again which would have ended azusa's chances and made a bad call. How is that even?
The biggest game of the week is SD/BP for so many reasons. First off the winner will either be the #2 or the #3 seed in the Tournament and get Workman in the 1st round and sit in the drivers seat to go to the finals because only Azusa and the Rio's #2 probably TC will be the only challenge on the bottom part of the bracket while the looser will get stuck playing LP/Gladstone in the 1st round and have both Monrovia#1 & Paraclete#4 to play in the 2nd and 3rd round (yikes). For those reasons i just stated it does not get any bigger than this game on friday.
Dunward Way...my point is the SGV only schedules against each other...time after time after time.
Go to a Glendora/Damien Game and everyone on both sides have Dads that coaches each team's kids...that's all.
Glendora came on and said 20 miles was too far, Damien doesn't want to schedule far...and everyone else wants to schedule their "friends"...that's crazy in my opinion. Look at what happened to CO ehen hey played El Dorado in the Championship Game...the truth is the CO players hadn't seen agile, mobile and hostile lineman like that before and lost. Same with a very solid, very big and very D1 loaded Damien team that faced a average 4-6 Temescal Canyon team who ran an offense teh Spartans never understood...TC's back was a record setting "average" JC back and look what he did that year.
The point is the SGV is predictable...and Fred knows it....and his 145-36 record this year proves it.
Maybe someone could go back and see how many of the 45 loses were to outside of the SGV teams.
One last point every player with enough courage and will to put on a helmet deserves everyone respect...every team and every player....playing football is dangerous....and extremely risky business as we all know...my point isnt to minimize they efforts or to feint boredom but to instead challenge the programs to test themselves outside of everyone's comfort zone/area.
In sports, as in life, "pecking" orders exist...what I believe everyone should prepare for is when you have to compete against the unknown...isn't that what life is all about? Isn't that why every sport tries to convince itself they just won a "WORLD" Championship...when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.
Like I said..tough to believe any program wouldn't see merit in that. BTW...what will they do when they get to college, the military, the work force...ask for a "pecking" order do over?
Come on play up!
sgv's best athlete,
In case you forget Azusa was one bad fumble call from being up at halftime. Were you even there? Gladstone was dominated all over the field.
Amat has gotten destroyed by Notre Dame the last few years. It will be closer this year but I still think ND will win fairly comfortably. I dont know how Amat will stop them on offense.
Gladstone is one bad pass interference call from beeting Azusa. Gladstone will beat la puente and get ready for C.I.F. playoffs. Probably against B.P.
Mr yawn,
Sorry you are so bored with the ball played in the valley but I frankly don't see your point. Of the 165 or so leagues playing statewide, only about 15% or so really distinguish themselves by playing at a high level. The rest, maybe the bottom 135 or so range from competent to downright awful. Does this then make the efforts of those kids, coaches, fans, administrators, and parents unworthy of note; their play somehow dishonorable because they aren't whipping teams from the Sunset or the Big 8?
I see you and your alter ego's like mr seriously belittling the play of most of the kids in the area because they aren't facing nationally ranked teams. I'm reminded that even as good as the Edison's and the Mission Viejo's of the world are, and they can be amazing, they represent only a tiny fraction of the football played every Friday night, all of it worthy of attention and praise for the dedication and effort that all of these kids put out all year long just so they can play for their schools.
When there is a line released in Vegas and I can wager some dough, then I'll get excited over all this.
Fred, I agree with you on all but three:
1. Notre Dame at Bishop Amat-(Bishop Amat)
AMAT is coming off a tough loss to Crespi. They are going to come out firing next week at HOME. Hagerty is undefeated at home since taking over at AMAT and he's going to keep it that way. Notre Dame is a good team, but heir winning streak aganist the Lancers is over. I said AMAT is going to finish 9-1 and I'm going to stand behind it. And if Crespi beats Loyola, you are going to have a three-way tie for 1st place in the Serra League. Ohh, the cursed coin flip.
2. Gladstone at La Puente-(Gladstone)
The boys over at Happy Rock are one bad half away from playing for the Montview League title. If not for some miscues aganist Azusa, they are undefeated in league. La Puente is a tough running team with a nice air attack to balance it out, but their defensive secondary is somewhat suspect. Gladstone is full of weapons on offense and will come out firing. Their defense has stepped up in recent weeks with shuting out Workman and almost shuting out Basset. Watch out for this "upset"
3. San Dimas at Baldwin Park-(Baldwin Park)
San Dimas has played well almost the entire year, but Baldwin Park is just too focused to lose this game. As far as common opponents go, Both beat Northview among many others, but BP held the Vikings to 6 points. Their defense is just much better. So I'll say it now. Baldwin Park-Valle Vista League Champions.
Fred,
The SGV game of the week is a no brainer. The valley's #4 against #5. See you at Baldwin Park.
Btw, you're a fool for not picking BP!
Fred your "outstanding" record only proves one point...the SGV is weak and that "weakness" is built on one premise..."friends playing friends and neighbors playing neighbors"...come on now when 90% of games in the SGV are "gimmies" what does that say about "testing yourself" as a Valley?
16-0...okay...try doing that in college or the NFL and then you have something to crow about...eck Steve went 14-2!!!!....lol
Maybe the SGV EAST could schedule a few more games against SGV WEST sometime...what a farce!
