Tribskin Pick'em, your predictions and ours

| | Comments (36) |

Steve and I will go head-to-head throughout the season. Here is our updated records on the Tribskin Pick'em thread.

Robledo: Last week/Total: 12-4/175-41
Ramirez: Last week/Total: 12-4/161-55

Last Week: Not a bad first round, my losses were picking Damien over Upland, Elsinore over Chino Hills, Whittier Christian over Arroyo and Rosemead over San Marino. Steve also missed the Arroyo and Rosemead game, and also lost taking Burroughs over Diamond Ranch and Rowland over California. But Steve did call the Chino Hills win and Upland's win over Damien.

This week: There are no real surprises, it doesn't make sense to pick against Bishop Amat now. I know they're on the road, and I don't know as much about Lakewood as I should, but I know enough about the Lancers to know if they get this road win, they're probably hope in the semifinals against No. 1 Edison, but first things first. Charter Oak and South Hills will bounce back and advance again this week, though West Covina is going to give the Chargers a run for their money. In the Mid-Valley, I'm taking Monrovia and San Dimas, but won't be surprised at all if they lose. It's pretty obvious, the Olympic is the best league in the division, cemented when their No. 3 Whittier Christian beat Arroyo, moving all three Olympic teams to the next round. Azusa-San Marino is a toss-up, but I have that Aztec feeling.

Friday's quarterfinal predcitions
Pac-5 Division
Bishop Amat (10-1) at No. 4 Lakewood (10-1) -- Robledo (BAmat); Ramirez (Bishop Amat)
Southeast Division
No. 1 Charter Oak (10-1) at West Covina (7-4) -- Robledo (Charter Oak); Ramirez (Charter Oak)
No. 4 Burbank (9-2) at California (8-2-1) -- Robledo (California); Ramirez (Burbank)
No. 3 Schurr (9-1-1) at Diamond Ranch (5-6) -- Robledo (Diamond Ranch); Ramirez (Diamond Ranch)
No. 2 South Hills (9-2) at Crescenta Valley (8-3) -- Robledo (South Hills); Ramirez (South Hills)
Mid-Valley Division
No. 1 Monrovia (11-0) at Paraclete (7-4) -- Robledo (Monrovia); Ramirez (Paraclete)
Baldwin Park (9-2) at Whittier Christian (8-3) -- Robledo (Whittier Christian); Ramirez (Baldwin Park)
San Marino (9-2) at No. 3 Azusa (10-1) -- Robledo (Azusa); Ramirez (Azusa)
Cerritos Valley Christian (8-3) at No. 2 San Dimas (10-1) -- Robledo (San Dimas); Ramirez (San Dimas)

West Co-CO should be a great game.. Charter Oak has been so impressive all year and I witnessed their thrilling victory over Etiwanda whose one of the Southeast's finest.. Charter Oak's biggest issue that game was stopping the run, more specifically the QB.. With Keith Smith though, this team is so stout against the run game.. West Co relies almost completely on the run.. They have such an explosive young Sophomore in Chris Soloman who has been the best player on the field in both games I've seen this year.. (Against Glendora/ San Gabriel...) Senior Ricky Johnson has all the hype, but I'm still waiting for him to show me something.. At this point though, West Covina will need to get great games out of both of them whether its Soloman breaking the Chargers backs w/ long runs or Johnson being elusive and picking up 4-5 on 1st down.. West Co will eventually have to complete some passes though and if they get down it will be an impossible task to ask them to come back.. West Co just needs too many things to go right therefore I pick the Chargers to be too much in the end.. CO 37-21..

I think I answered your questions, however if you want more I am more than happy to break it down.

Aaron said:

Frosh Dad,

As much as I would have liked to see our team have a much better season, I am not worried at all.

Without the kids from JV that didn't get a chance to play at the Varsity level, and the Frosh kids. The Frosh team had one of the best records I can remember and the JV finished undefeated which is something that rarely seems to happen. Yeah I know they had two tie games, that's ok...still no losses right!

Honestly I thought this was probably the most talented defense Coach Medina has had since he's been the Def. Coordinator at Bonita.
Just the big names you have coming back: Garret and Casey Horine, KC Huth, Daniel Harriman, and Cody McKenzie, Matt Gelalich.

Upcoming Sophs that played and got to start, look out for Nicholas Pichotta, started against Diamond Ranch and also got a lot of time when we played Wilson. Plenty of JV guys that play special teams had to play this season due to injuries.

But now, the thing that our cats have been struggling all season on was Offense.

Offensive line is going to be big next season:
Tarez Lemmons looks to be their leader again, but look out for upcoming juniors in Alec Broussard and Tyler Trudeau.

I think we'll have some strong backs pushing up from the frosh team in Joey Hubbard kid seems very focused. As I saw ten or so kids brought up to practice from the Freshman squad last week I think this is the most talent Podley has had, it's taken awhile. But that just shows you it takes awhile for that group of athletes to come along in La Verne. 1999 was the last title Bonita had and I was in the fifth grade.

Offense: Garret Pendleton progressed dramatically throughout the season, I think having to split time with Highley during the San Dimas game and then stand on the sidelines helped him. He observed Even Highley's instincts, and well when he got the call again against Diamond Ranch he came to play having a great game and finished the season very strong. At the receiver position look out for the Horine brothers to be very dependable targets for Garret next season, along with Zach Braumgard, Matt Migdat, and Matt Gelalich.

If I didn't say a name, this by no means diminishes what that player will bring to the table as I'm looking to see a great season. Don't be surprised if there are sophomores contributing from day one.

TIGHTS SPORTS FAN;

The only unfortunate thing will be that you'll have to travel to AZUSA! The fortunate thing right now is we have HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE and I tell you something ,you'll look into the stands and see the support we have for the AZTECS! Hopes??? that's all you need and everthing else will fall into place. Maybe Fred & Steve got you a little nervous right now, so why don't send him a little blog comment on how you think SM will win, and why AZUSA just don't have a shot.I've seen AZUSAS defense play and they're real FAST and are real quick to the ball. So I hope Hans & Gretcha will do as your saying and open up some holes.

Fred and Steve have seen AZUSA play, and they both wouldn't just go with their FEELING. I believe your boy Miguel Melendez, has SM winning so maybe that should put your mind at ease!

By the way GOOD LUCK TO YOUR BOY'S! AND WILL DEFINATELY SEE YOU ON FRIDAY NIGHT!

AZUSA AZTECS!

Definitely. If chino hills can create some pressure on the line against etiwanda, they will be able to disrupt the passing game and ground attack of santiago. Kid is a baller! Chino Hills defense is going need big plays from the defensive front.

I hope you guys are right. Rio can be huge for this program as a QB. If he does stick around, Amat is going to be a force to be reckoned with for the next two years. There have been some great baseball players that were also standouts on the football field. Mike Lange had a very similar situation to Rio and ended up having a great college baseball career. Rio has a little more at stake though.

I guess time will tell what young Rio decides is best for him. Hopefully what is best for him lines up with whats best for Amat. The Amat Family will support him either way.

I agree with your prediction for the Chino Hills/Etiwanda game. It will be a close one and may go down to the final minutes of the game. It will be quickness of the Chino Hills defense against the accuracy of Etiwandas's passing attack.

Unreal....speaking a 9 year olds playing in All American Football games....does anyoone know what happened to The White Reggie Bush?

Aram put his highlights up on the blog a few years back and he should be a Soph or Junior by now....seems all the kids from the Los Alamitos area Pop Warner team were scheduled to be GIANT KILLERS once they reached HS...ayone know how they turned out.

Not hating...because the "kid" WAS a phenom but ...

like I said...anyone know?

just sayin' said:

Unreal-we heard the same thing about Jerry Mac a year ago. No worries. And if you know what's up, you know that Pops is more than a little pissed at the little general for trying to play hardball and tell Rio to give up football. That's the direction all the talk is coming from - not from the Ruiz clan.
Rio burst onto the FB scene on Friday in the final two minutes and everyone watching FOX heard them address him as the future Amat QB. USC has always welcomed multi-sport athletes -and he'll just be another one.

Unreal... said:

Sad to say I will not be at the Amat game this friday. :(. I will be in Vegas for my brother's (Future Lancer Tight End.... Stands 5'3 as a 9 year old with soft hands) Junior All American Bowl Game.

Amat has enough to win this game. Hags has had them ready to play all year, no sense thinking friday will be any different.

I am sad to say, though, that this season may be the last season we see Rio Ruiz play football. The kid has so much talent on the diamond that the rumor is he will not play next year in order to avoid injury. Can't blame the kid, when you have MLB potential it's a risk you really may not want to take.

CO, be careful with West Covina. They are sneaky good and scrappy.

As always... Good luck to all the SGV teams playing this week, let's show them what we got.

Go Amat!!!!

Wouldnt get your hopes up to high that Fred Picked you to win this week after all he did pick Rosemead over SM and that one really wasnt close. I'm positive that he'd pick mead over azuza had rosemead won. SM gets little love from Fred but thats alright we have to earn it a thrashing of mead apparently wasnt enough for that. mead was fortunate to be the first team to put 14+ pts on SM this season and if your offense doesnt come out on all cylinders you'll be in trouble. Get ready for a heavy dose of Hung and Yortsos from our O. unfortunately for you it looks as if hung is getting his legs back at the right time. Best of luck to your boys see you at citrus friday night

I am more than neutral on this subject but there is one thing that I do know about West Covina and that is that I would never dismiss the Bulldogs chances because if there is one thing I know about is team and that is that these guys are going to come ready to play some football.

If West Covina plays with the same tenacity and grit as they displayed against Lancers then Charter Oak had better be ready, because these guys are going to be in for one heck of a fight come Friday night.

Should be a great game either way and who ever comes out on top should represent the SGV in the division finals. Wish I could be there.

This just in ~ Thanks for showing CO love but come on get your facts straight. LMAO!

Okay two things CO vs WC has Ricky Johnson been playing or is he injured? This will be a great game and will be a packed house. CO will come out victorious.

2nd thing comparing BA's schedule to Lakewoods it looks like lakewood doesn't have a chance at winning. Stop the Lakewoods running game and force Scroggins to beat you and you will have a great shot at playing Edison next week.

The other thing that BA might have trouble with is the overall team speed of Lakewood. BA you have turned most of us into believers, Road or at home I think you still have the advantage.

West Covina is 1-6 against the Charter Oak Chargers. The only win came when they had Walter Thurmond. Sorry West Cochina you dont have another Walter Thurmond in you backfield so I guess its 1-7 and getting ready for soccer season. CO had a bad performance last week in the 4th and they will be looking to stomp their next oppenent too bad its going to be the cute little bulldogs.

This just in Azusa is out second round, and will not be able to handle the no huddle attack that Whittier Christian has to offer.

Fred now that we got your vote of confidence, who knows how far we can GO! THANKS FOR PICKING US! WE WON'T LET YOU DOWN!!!! THIS IS GREAT NEWS FRED. BELIEVE ME, and I don't know how you pick all these schools to win or lose, but I must say your real good at it!

Little story here, my daughters boyfriend wanted to bet that Covina would win, and the bet was if AZUSA would lose I would to shave my mustache off and if Covina loss, he would shave his head. Well I didn't do the bet because I didn't know who would win! Fred I should have taken your advise and took the bet, because you know the outcome!

That's also great news that we get to play at Citrus again and can say HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE! THIS TIME COACH SCHERF AND HIS STAFF BETTLE,HART,BELTRAN AND BUBBA (WILL HAVE THEM READY)!

THE TRUE CHAMPIONS OF THE MONTVIEW LEAGUE PUSH ON! WAY TO GO AZTECS...
