hey! wait a minute............just a few short weeks ago none other than Fred J Robledo was lamenting the fact that all leagues teams were often off base,biased,and full of prejudice, now with Fred saying that, does it mean his biases,his prejudices are out the window?My feeling is that all valley and POY as picked by the trib, were full of these same shortcomings, HS sports are full of coach hype,media hype, same as college, and professional levels. I say, the way to get rid of the hype is to use a tool like performance on the next level to help decipher the true worthiness, not let it be the sole factor, but rather a scale to weigh the apples and oranges we're comparing, let us not forget the Tribs POY in 76 Richard Nyden QB Azusa, over Paul McDonald QB Amat, enough said! Nyden played against nobody, had very marginal stat advantage and was almost a hoax, his "Nebraska career" a sham........let the past not repeat itself.Bottom line Nyden was not deserving, maybe someone other than McDonald was sure, but there was hype and smoke and mirrors galore, any prudent person could have seen that. Anyhow, my buddy listener(of the late,great Jim Healy radio show) Ozzie Lange, just called, he's got a horse running, gotta go get some money on her, late!

OK, sounds good to me. Most people I talk to say Cody without a doubt.

The question that is even more amazing is how he wasn't SGV POY in the first place. Oh Steve..Steve...Steve.

In my eyes, that gives us (and the Trib) a chance to right a wrong.

Here's my question about Cody -- If he wasn't Tribune Player of the Year, can he be Player of the Decade? I have no argument if he is, but I want to get the rules straight.

His 2000 honors included USA Today All-USA first team Defensive MVP, Parade All-American, Super Prep All-American, Prep Star All-American, Student Sports Senior All-American, Super Prep Elite 50, Prep Star Dream Team, Student Sports Top 100, Super Prep All-Farwest Defensive Player of the Year, Prep Star All-Western Region Super 30 Defensive MVP, Long Beach Press-Telegram first team (unanimous pick), Las Vegas Sun Super 11 first team, Tacoma News Tribune Western 100, Cal-Hi Sports All-State first team, All-CIF Southern Section first team, All-CIF Division VII Defensive MVP, Los Angeles Times All-San Gabriel Valley MVP and All-Miramonte League MVP as a senior at Los Altos High in Hacienda Heights (Calif.). He had 105 tackles and 22 sacks as a defensive end in 2000, plus 50 receptions for 850 yards (17.0 avg.) and 15 TDs and 45 carries for 327 yards (7.3 avg.) with 10 TDs as a tight end and fullback on offense. Los Altos went 14-0 in 2000 and won its second consecutive CIF Division VII championship.

As a 1999 junior, he received Cal-Hi Sports All-State second team, All-CIF Southern Section first team, All-CIF Division VII Defensive MVP and Los Angeles Times All-San Gabriel Valley Defensive MVP honors. He had 150 tackles, 51 tackles for losses, 35 sacks, 10 deflections and 10 forced fumbles in 1999, plus 271 receiving yards on 15 catches (19.1 avg.) with 2 scores on offense. Los Altos won the 1999 CIF Division VII title.

2 CIF titles, 2 All CIF Defensive MVPs and a NATIONAL Defensive MVP? And there's even a discussion?

thats why MCD is going to be first team QB, but as far as POD hands down Shaun(correction) Cody was unstopable. Since we talking about what they did in high school to be specific, here you go. "Cody also garnered USA Today All-USA Defensive MVP. He played in the first ever U.S. Army All-American Bowl game on December 30, 2000."
