Bishop Amat's Darien Johnson receives offers
Bishop Amat corner/receiver Darien Johnson was quoted in ESPN's college football recruiting saying he has an offer from Northern Arizona and New Mexico.
"Northern Arizona offered me and then New Mexico offered," Johnson told ESPN. "I have a visit set to New Mexico for [Jan. 22] and I'm also hearing from Washington, Arizona and Arizona State. Washington sounds close to offering but they're just waiting on a few other players they have in front of me right now. I think that's the same with both Arizona schools so I'm just being patient and hopefully good things will happen for me."

hilarious,
Come on now . There are many fine young men at CO and other schools in the SGV worthy of D-1 or other scholarships. Maybe that post by are you ready did have some padding to it but I believe there would be scouts and recuiters at CO and not because they were at AMAT. AMAT may be one of their destinations but certainly not the only one . These are the types of posts that the haters thrive on . Don't add fuel to the fire. Good luck to all the seniors in the pursuit of continuing their football and academic careers whether by scholarship or other means.
Are you ready for some football? - really? what a crock. those must be the coaches that headed there from being in town just to watch the Lancers lift weights. good thing Amat brings them to the valley so they can go elsewher when they're done.
Whos cares what or who got DJ to the next level. The bottom line is the young man is going to experience college and playing football. DJ and his parents got him to the next level. DJ for his skills and his parents for paying all that hard earned money on Pop Warner through his youth and sending him to a private school like Bishop Amat. Recomendations by Guru, Hags whatever, the kid played outstanding this year practically beating St. Bonnies single handedly. Where they play him in college is anyones guess. He will need to improve on his tackling abilities (hard hitting like Davis Casares) if he plays on the Defensive side of the ball in college, but the young man sure can cover and lock down on a reciever. Good luck to you Darien, your parents must be proud of you. The Amat family looks forward to hearing about or watching you as you lace them up on Saturdays. You were one of the Mighty Men that wore the Blue and Gold.
Dj, you are truly an awesome football player, and you will shine at the next level, returning punt returns as well as blocking. You will definately have options to choose from, because more offers will be coming your way. Keep God first and everything else will fall in place. Congradulations to you, I will miss you watching you in action next year.
If you want to see college coaches recruit athletes then you should of driven by Charter Oak football practices this week. I went to watch the Chargers practice at the stadium and was in awe of how many coaches throughout the country were there to watch not just the seniors but also the underclassmen. I never realized that even Head Coaches also sometimes fly in and have there assistant coaches drive them to practices. Literally there were coaches lined throughout the perimeter of the field and what was interesting was watching so many coaches talking together. I asked some of the players and they said some of their teammates already have early offers and others are currently being recruited not just for this years class but coaches are getting an early start on next years players. I even watched several coaches get introduced to the Freshmen athletes that Charter Oak brought up for the playoffs. The networking that occurred between the high school coaches, college coaches, and athletes was very impressive. I'm looking forward to those young men playing on Saturday afternoons. Good luck gentlemen!
CONGRATS TO DARIEN ON THE OFFERS.
IM SURE THEIR ARE MORE TO COME. SGV PLAYER OF THE YEAR!
Actually, Hagerty has said on several occasions his job is to make Amat formidable not recruiting. I would not say he does nothing but it is not his priority. Most of the parents are doing things on their own. He has said this from the beginning. With that said the Amat name does bring college scouts to the school and/or games. Also not to mention the value of film of top schools played. I am sure DJ is known from his work the last 2 seasons and what he has done at various camps.
And the guru has gotten names out there as well.
Trust me. The Guru had nothing to do with these offers. I'm sure we all agree that Hags is a great coach and knew before the season started that Johnson would have to be huge this year for the team to succeed. And guess what, he was! As I read that article earlier in the year, it sounded like Johnson did a lot of growing and maturing from his Junior to Senior year. Don't know that that means DJ was in Hag's doghouse, but if he was he certainly got out of it this year. I thought Johnson would have more offers by now, but looks like things are turning up for him. Just try not to give any undue credit to the Guru. Amat's coaches have done lots of work for the players.
Why would Hags, while trying to build up the program at Amat not do anything to promote a scholarship for DJ. Absolutely makes no sense for him not to do it. They only connection the guru has is between him and Bogan and that connection is not fit to be printed on the blog. You haters will stoop to anything to bash Amat.
Joe and the Guru are SCAM artist. They say colleges pay them for evaluations, but nobody knows if thats the truth. He has no website and No testimonials. Then he turns around and charges players to promote them to colleges. He's playing both sides. sgvscouting = SCAM
Guru oopps I mean Joe, You have no idea what Hagerty does for his players. College scouts go directly to HS coaches when recruiting. They don't call the guru to set up meetings. That being said, who did the college coaches call to set up a meeting with DJ. Thats right, they called coach Hagerty. So don't go spreading lies about how DJ was in Hagerty's doghouse. Ask DJ and his family or better yet ask the coaches what they do get their players out to college.
As a matter of fact DJ was not one of Hagerty's favorites and found himself in Hags Doghouse at times. Guru gave out the leads on Darian Johnson. Like it or not he has the connections and Guru props the SGV talent to the next level coaches. Hoping DJ success at the next level. The next level of big fish for Amat next season are Jay Anderson, Austin Lacy and possibly Christian Orduno. Outside chance to Arron Bowens.
The Guru had everything to do with DJ getting an offer, Whether you like him or not the Guru does have relationship with college coaches. Hagerty did NOTHING to promote DJ. The Guru has been the one pushing for coaches to take a chance on DJ.
I don't think so Joe. UNM and NAU were on campus last Thursday. Guru has nothing to do with it.
I guess Guru did take care of DJ and college since Hagerty was slacking.
I thought Oregon was making a run for him?
CONGRATS DJ!!! PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Great things have already happened with offers from NAU and New Mexico. A scholarship to college is great. More great things are in the future.
Best of luck.
Congrats to DJ. The school who gets him is getting a bonafide playmaker. WAY underrated!
