Charter Oak's Powell, Smith, Golden and Muema all making recruiting trip to Colorado; Saints bell-ringing ceremony today

By Fred J. Robledo
Charter Oak High School football coach Lou Farrar couldn't believe the number of scouts at the Chargers' practices last week leading up to Friday's 21-0 victory over Diamond Ranch, a win that secured their second consecutive CIF-Southern Section Southeast Division championship and fifth title in school history. In fact, the University of Colorado has invited corner A.J. Powell, linebacker Keith Smith, all-purpose Brandon Golden and running back Adam Muema for a recruiting visit in January. To continue reading, click thread.
Muema, who also is getting looks from other schools, including San Diego State, is 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds. He finished the season with 1,938 yards and 23 touchdowns, averaging 7.2 yards per carry.
"We have been getting texts, phone calls, it's unbelievable," Farrar said. "Adam in particular, everyone is requesting a tape. They heard stories of him dragging three or four guys with him, and how he gets stronger in the fourth quarter.
"To have all four on the same recruiting trip is unheard of. We have never had anything like that."
Farrar said it's difficult to single out which of his five championship teams are the best, but going back-to-back for the first time and shutting out Diamond Ranch is hard to argue against.
In fact, the Chargers finished with five shutouts against Miramonte League teams during their final year in the league.
The Chargers will move to the Sierra League next season with South Hills, Damien, Chino Hills, Ayala and Claremont and will most likely compete in the Central Division, though voting for new playoff division realignment takes place in the spring.
"It takes a special group of kids to do it (winning back-to-back), that's why you have four guys going on a recruiting trip," Farrar said. "When I think of A.J. Powell, who played as a freshman in a playoff game for us, I don't know what to say. To watch him grow as an athlete and person is special, because he had some tough times and never faltered or wavered.
"You know, this might have been the best group of character kids we had in a long time."
With San Dimas knocking off undefeated and top-ranked Monrovia in the Mid-Valley Division championship, 12-7 on Saturday night, there are two divisional champions on the same street.
Farrar and Saints coach Bill Zernickow laughed when asked if a flag-football fundraiser would settle the king of Covina Blvd., but Farrar was serious about scheduling the Saints.
"We're looking for nonleague games next year," Farrar said. "That would be a good one. Anyone around here that's not in our division, we would love to play."
Bell ceremony
That loud sound around noon in San Dimas today is a "bell-ringing ceremony" to honor the Saints' first football title, coming just months after the Saints' baseball team won a championship.
"We should do it around lunch time," Zernickow said. "I'm so proud of the kids; we had a banquet on Sunday that we scheduled well in advance. I was kind of nervous, it would have been tough to do the next day if we lost, but winning made it such a great event."
Sophomore quarterback Shawn Kennedy attempted just one pass in Saturday's victory. The rainy conditions changed the Saints' game plan with Ryan Kohler, Tre Evans, Dillon Corona and Jason Taylor combining for 317 yards. Kohler had 108.
"I came in wanting to throw it a lot," Zernickow said. "We scripted our first 12 plays and seven were pass plays. The rain took us out of our game plan. Maybe we should play in the rain more often."
The rain hampered previously undefeated Monrovia, with quarterback Nick Bueno attempting only eight passes and completing three for 36 yards.
The Saints were able to key on Wildcats running back De'shawn Ramirez, who went in averaging nearly 100 yards per game. Ramirez finished with minus-15 yards on nine carries.

It must really suck for SGVsBest when "the scum" kicks ass on the rest of the East/West SGV, and we'll even throw in Gurus/COCF's great Inland Empire. For what it's worth COChargerfan - Will Robinson (Amat'03) is going to start for the Washington Redksins tomorrow.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/dec/19/robinson-faces-tough-first-test/
You mention Ranch Cucamonga. Ask them about their back-to-back punches in the mouth the next couple years. In the two most awful years of football Amat has ever seen. Even when their bad they kick the SGVs ass. Did you say DR? The Southeast "finalists"? You can ask them too? WEAK.
The real punch in the mouth was the back-to-back ass-whuppings Amat put on Charter Oak that caused CO to beg out of the final year of the contract saying "No Mas". FACT! If that isn't a telling tale nothing is. CO is the Roberto Duran of the valley. "Hand of Stone" when they play they play the lightweights on their schedule but when they step up - "No Mas"!!!" Can you imagine that? Asking out of the contract!! That tells you all you need to know about their honor.
Honor? Honor? Really?
Go ask your little honorable catholic boys about their behavior at the Rancho Cuc/ CO game?
Ask the honorable little boys abouut the SH/DR?
You don't know honor
There's a new BMOC amat, and you don't like the taste of the punch in the mouth!
No more bulling the other schools
You are the new ND and 4 horsemen are dead!

Hags - you can have the COY. Nobody remembers second place.
Everybody will remember the year Servite won the Pac5 in the rain storm!
We are the Champions!
No! No! No! Charter Oak Chargers are the Kings! CIF says CO is King, not the Tribune! . You Amat have turned into Notre Dame. The University of ND! You want respect for who youe WERE! CO is not in Awe of you! this ain't La Puente or Duarte or some little town in Mexico where the little catholic kid gets to be BMOC! You're goona have to earn around here, ghetto boy! Covina and DR is as far from ghetto as about 10 miles east of you mom's 1938 pre- WWII house on Valley blvd., ghetto boy! CO = Champion Amat = rebuilding for 15 year!

You are still very young (i hope) but one day you will learn that there is a greater honor and respect that can be earned without winning a CIF Championship. You will learn that you cannot always win the big game but you can hold your head up high if you played your heart out and you played against a worthy opponent.
This type of "honor" is the reason why the SGV Tribune is dominated by Bishop Amat fans. Well, i guess it helps if you play and beat some nationally ranked teams too! LOL! It is also the reason why the LA Times spent so much print on BA. They are and will continue to be the San Gabriel Valley's sole Pac-5 representative and they have been for a few generations.
The CIF is succeeding in isolating the San Gabriel Valley. How else do you explain the ridiculous match-up of Charter Oak and Diamond Ranch in a CIF Championship game? And no, it did not help that everyone agreed to play at Ayala High.
In world where "ghetto should stay and play ghetto" exists, there is currently one representative that is more than willing to shake a fist at this bull.
There is a representative lead by a coach that knows EXACTLY what I am talking about. And that is why he will win Coach of the Year without a CIF Championship under his belt.
big difference,
No difference in that both are championships . Different paths to each one but we both won championships and nothing should be taken away from that fact .

The Tribune, Fred, the Times -
They sell newspapers! They move on to the next sport next week! You ain't special. Just the flavor of the day!
Charter Oak gets to keep the ringS and bannerS.
Don't forget to print the articles, frame them and hang them next to Fred's picture and your dusty 1995 banner!
Lakewood says goodnight!
Fred just stated that the top 5 most popular stories in SGV Preps were all about Bishop Amat football games.
Amat has been a very hot topic on the LA Times for the past few months and as recent as yesterday.
Amat has had a story written and posted by Max Preps.com about the St. Bonnies game.
Amat was featured on a weekly basis on CBS2 KCAL9 TV station.
LESSON TO BE LEARNED:
The 2009 Bishop Amat Varsity football team captured the hearts and minds of thousands. They accomplished more than anyone could have imagined and they did this without any D-1 football recruits as of yet. This season belongs to BA.
You're kidding yourself if you think you have 5 going DI. See me in February, or June for that matter!
AMAT 73 - the difference is during those DV championships those Lancer teams stepped up to defeat some of the best teams in the area, state, and nation to prove they could be mentioned among the best. This version of DVII back-to-back has not done anything to be able to make that claim.
Hey, SGVsWorst - can you see the scoreboard on that little 13"?!?

SGV FOOTBALL,
I hear you loud and clear. If you like we can compare our D-5 baseball and your D-7 football rings and I bet they have the same thing in common ,CIF CHAMPIONS ,which is what matters .As many of the faithful have posted we are all put into divisions and the job of the team is to win the championship in the division where your put . To do it is a great accomplishment and should not be knocked . Now to the real nitty gritty . COCF you are so far out in the woods as to think that the 2009 CO team ( and this is no knock on the team because they are champions ) would destroy our 1992 team is so far off base especially trying to spin the todays athlete is vastly improved ( not far, far, far superior ) over those athletes of 92. I have yet to see any nose tackle surpass the ability of Illi to this date . That 92 team was loaded and I believe one of if not the best team to ever come out of the SGV. As far as declining enrollment for the privates the one thing we have going for us is the return of the alumni's offsprings. For sure we have third generations returning to AMAT and maybe some fourth by now . A lot of those names and I am sure you have read had fathers or grandfathers who wore the Blue and Gold . So that will help keep the flow coming in during the tough times ahead. I don't think Damien has that, maybe, but not as strong as AMAT .
"Amat competed against 72" Plasma HDTV competition. CO is still playing in that 13 inch portable analog division"
ROFLMAO!!!
I watched the old 13" when I had to - but it's so much better on the big flat-screen!!!
FISHBOWLERS!!! That was a good one too!
SGV FOOTBALL...I didn't mean it to be an Amat vs. CO comparison but just some thoughts on the changing world that we live in. I've lived in the SGV for 50 years and have seen how the changes in demographics have affected football programs...I'm sure the regular readers have seen the comments about this on past blogs by the Los Altos, Walnut and Diamond Bar folks. I was just wondering out loud if some of the changes that I mentioned are going to affect the Catholic High School Football Programs much the same way that the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame have gone to the skids lately...some experts are predicting pretty much forever...because so many of the top level high school recruits are not Catholic anymore. Throw in the economy and it seems inevitable that the free public schools are going to get more top players whose parents can't afford or justify the private school cost.
Just something else to think about as I got tired of reading the CO vs. Amat stuff.
Scoreboard says:
Charter Oak - CIF "Football" Champions. "AGAIN"! Have you seen it Amat? It glows!
Amat - Zero!... In spanish, La Puente, that means Zero!
Scoreboard baby! Do you see it? We're pointing at it!
Pheewww COChargerfan came with some fire on that last post.
Bring it Amat Nation (remember Amat Nation is the few imbeciles we all know too well, not the Amat fans we are accustomed to talking to) you know who you are. To bad we cant post photos of our CIF rings with our Charter Oak family so we can show you what joy even a D7 ring brings to the small city of Covina.
People, all this talk about the past is overlooking the present...notwithstanding Amat's storied history, CO is going to win the D1 college recruiting award for THIS SEASON...looks like the final score will be five kids to zero.
And Reality...what about next year? Because, Robinson is signed to the practice squad...he has not actually "played" an NFL game and may never do so, Brown is 31 yrs old and this looks like his last season and Russell is also 31 yrs old who was also cut last year by the Jaguars but was picked up by Houston because of injuries...he's arguably the worst safety in the NFL and it looks like this will also be his last season. So next year, will there be any Amat guys in the NFL? And, it looks like Will Harris will make it into the NFL and Jason David was out this year because of injuries...he is going to try to come back next year at 28 yrs old...so be careful, because next year it could be CO with one or two guys and Amat with none. Does that mean that CO is better than Amat??? I say NO…it just means that both of these schools in our little SGV have produced NFL players including one with a Super Bowl title.
And Bob…how in the world is what happened in 1992 the predictor for what would happen in 2009? Because it is not…completely different teams with different players. In fact, because the size, strength, speed and overall skill of athletes is vastly improved from decade to decade, there is a really good chance that the 2009 version of CO would completely destroy the 1992 Amat team…a lot of change in almost two decades.
And, as some others have made snide remarks about, CO does have some kids from outside of Covina…same as Amat has most of it’s kids from outside of WC/La Puente…so what? What is being missed is that the public school “open enrollment” rules have allowed some of the public schools to “compete” with the privates by removing school boundaries, which is why some of the public schools like CO have been getting noticeably stronger…as evidenced by the number of Junior College and D1 athletes that are being produced.
The question that has yet to be answered is whether the success of some of the public schools coupled with the poor economy will lead more athletes away from the private football schools? It is a fact that enrollment at the K-8 private schools continue to decline at an alarming rate so are the Amat’s and Damien’s of the world going to get hit in the next few years when these kids reach high school age? Aren’t these public school 8th graders going to want to go to high school with their best friends from school? And, anyone read the Pew Forum Report on the changes in religious affiliation happening in America? Well, the Catholic Church lost the most members…from 31% to 24% and it went on to say the “…losses would have been even more pronounced were it not for the offsetting impact of immigration.” With predictions that the economy in California will not recover for perhaps 5 years and immigration reform, the near future for the private Catholic schools may not be so rosy. And folks, I said two years before it happened that the easy money mortgage market that caused an irrational run up in home prices was going to lead to a giant sized financial meltdown…so you might want to think about what I’m saying.
cotincurtin - sgvsbest- anonypuss = the same person. if you want to blog under different names so it looks like there are many with your outlook at least be original enough to write different put downs. The girls soccer team and a few other tid bits of yours are very boring and getting old fast. At least with SGVFB you know where he is coming from and is not ashamed to state he is CO thru and thru for which I commend him . You on the other hand hide behind all the winners but when they lose you drop them as quick as you can and jump to the next winning band wagon. Come clean because you did state at one time you were not from the SGV and your kid played on a d-1 team and was still playing during the championship round. Now which was it Servite or Edison. I bet you write it was Servite just to say you are a winner . But that will be just another lie in your long list of the many lies you post on this blog. Merry Christmas and I hope you enjoy that lump of coal coming your way.
SGVFOOTBALL and COSteelCurtain: Once you open the door you are subject to cross-examination. The jury's back with their verdict and you are both screwed!
SGVFOOTBALL - you don;t read so well - but that 1980s CO education gives you an excuse. See, it was COTinMan who said:
"Just saying that Kordell Stewart made Colorado great! Betheenemy was a nice College baller, but nothing in the NFL! Have you seen Jason David's Superbowl ring lately? Very nice bling! Betheenemy is no Jason David."
And in case you forgot - you were the first to say "we all know who the big dogs in high school football are, and we know they dont reside in the san gabriel valley". And suggested "harvard" play Mater Dei.
That's where the comparisons started. As was said earlier - don;t throw the jab unless your prepared for the knockout combination.
So who's up whose @$$?
TinMan - in order to BUY that Flat Screen you need $$$$. You said it was about the $$$$. Like the $$$$ that those 3 Lancers are pulling in. TODAY - not in the past!. See they all competed against 72" Plasma HDTV competition. CO is still playing in that 13 inch portable analog division. Adjust those Rabbit Ears" baby! You never know - maybe 1 of those guys will still play in the Super Bowl. We can have an NFL alumni party. The room will be pretty full - but since your group is so small - Maybe you & JD can come over and watch.
SGV FOOTBALL,
Still waiting for your 'analysis' on Amat Fb's 2009 season.
You seem to have a take on everything BUT your pre-season 'prediction' that Amat would not win more than 3-4 games.
Funny how you pop-up and start riding CO's coattails like YOU had something to do with their success.
You guys are the ones that are asking CO compare to Bishop Amat guys. We dont need to compare to you, did you forget that you asked the question about about NFL players to us CO???? or did you forget. Okay let me ask you this since reality CO is sooooo far up your A$$ you can't or even believe that CO did what it was supposed to do, again your team did not do what it was supposed to do. So how many Championships has active Bishop Amat players won in the NFL???
In summary -
The Scoreboard in the Flat Screen TV era ( the would be this decade Amat!):
Charter Oak: 3 CIF RingS and 1 SuperBowl Ring! A big a$$ SuperBowl Ring!
Amat Aztecs: Not so much for the has beens!!!
Did I miss anything?
LOL!
reality just made SGV FOOTBALL look like a complete tool.
Who are these CO people that want to compare D-1 recruits and NFL players with Bishop Amat? Are they serious? Did they just move to the SGV?
Serra is going to be in one of those games maybe the CO fans, coaches and bloggrs can come back and say whether or not they should give Serra a call....kind of like "scouting" them...remember ...no more Wilson.
Charter Oak High School football coach Lou Farrar couldn't believe the number of scouts at the Chargers' practices last week leading up to Friday's 21-0 victory over Diamond Ranch.Sorry to tell you this BUT if CO would of had a schedule like ANY of the teams that are playing this weekend at the Home Depot Center in Carson scouts would of been at your games. ALL YOU BLOGGERS PLEASE NOTE...If you want to high school football at it's best GO (WATCHING ON TV IS NOT THE SAME) TO THE HOME DEPOT CENTER THIS WEEKEND. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!! I have gone to the last 3 years and I can't tell you how good it is to see the BEST teams in the state play. GO TO AS MANY GAMES AS YOU CAN. THEY DON'T KICK YOU OUT YOU CAN ALL 3 GAMES FOR THE SAME PRICE!!!
hey TinMan - maybe we can hawk that old ring at the local Pawn Shop to get some $$$. Lancers still cashing in - TODAY!
so it's ok for TinCan to insult people but stating the fact that Jason David was cut (not an insult-a fact) is not ok? TinCan/SGVsWorst can spew all he wants but the fact that their are THREE Lancers (and a coach) collecting a paycheck from the NFL is an insult?
Aren't we KEEPING SCORE??? It's all about the Benjamin's right??? Or are you changing your tune??? dum a$$!
reality sucks answers the question!! And the answer is NONE! No Superbowl Ring for Any Amat Aztec!
I think we're done here! Insulting JD is not something I'm gonna be a part off! He has way too much class for you old Fart bags from the last century!
SGV FOOTBALL - I'm assuming you got that ring in '85 with CO? If so, how many years did the Chargers have to wait for the next one. Did they suck in the meantime? Was Lou a terrible coach? If this blog existed - what would bloggers be saying? Living in the past? What's taking so long? Fire Farrar?
The correct answer to the NFL question is ZERO. If you go to NFL.com you can look up players. It says:
DB 42 Davis, Jason CUT
Now THAT is what sucks.
TinCup - just checking - is THAT the present? As in TODAY?
You could go to the same page and find Brian Russell (Texans),Ralph Brown (Cardinals) and Will Robinson (Redskins). That would be THREE.
THAT"S reality.
Haterade...so you took Jcaz up on the urinal thing huh? Yes I am a "donkey"...lol
Just ask you mom.
Seriously ask her.
If she passes out you'll know I'm not lying.
Gonna be tough explaining to your Pops why Mom passed out.
Donkeyosis runs in the Family....and so does "miminalismpenisosis" every wonder why you're so frustrated all the time?
And as far as that ring come on...same sex marriage doesn't count and wasn't legal in 1985! And I don't "hate" you...matter of fact Luke...."I am your father!!!!!"
lmao
reality,
I'm glad you ask how many rings I got. To answer that question I only have 1 ring that I got in 1985. I can care less if you have if you dont have any rings. Your name says it all "reality is that it sucks to be you." Currently CO has 1 player on an NFL roster. Jason David.
Yo COSteelCurtain between the two of us we can take this little ladies and defend CO.
COSteelCurtain (or TinCurtain, TinMan, whatever you wish to call him) is SGVsBest (or SGVsWorst which is more like it). Liar, fool, idiot, all of the above.
Tin Curtian, you got some issuses dude.
none of those guys had the chance to play with Peyton Manning, but the Lancers do have THREE players on NFL rosters TODAY - is that this century? How many Chargers? TODAY? I mean, since we don't want to talk about the past.
Sounds to me like Reality S*ucks has been Defeated! Kind of like after the Lakewood game!
Looks like Reality S*cks is not going to answer my questions!
We all know the answers! "What had happen was" that it hurts to answer the questions!
They call it Shame where I come from. Or is excuses? It might be both!
Once upon a time the ignorant and arrogant Euros thought the Earth was Flat? They found out the hard way, they were wrong! Of course, Italians don't consider themselves Euros!
How's that #1 Girls Soccer working out for you? You think they'll be able to win CIF? I'm rooting for the girls. Heck I'm going to the Championship game and rooting for them.
How much fun would that be, old fat man?
Yes friends here we have ... CO's finest... SGV FOOTBALL!!!!!
Come one - come all, send your kids to Covina Blvd and you can grow up just like him. What every parent wants their kid to grow up to be - swearing on some message board and riding some kids coattails like he had something to do with it. Hilarious!
SGV FOOTBALL - how many rings on YOUR fingers?
reality s*ucks or Joe Amat or whatever you wanna call yourself this week - You didn't answer my question, old fat man!
Tell me this any of those OLD, fat and arthritic guys have a superbowl ring within the era of Television? Or do I need library microfilm to locate the LA Times article?!?
Come to the new century OLD man! This is the new era! The one where you don't win! The Aztecs were great too. So what? Not anymore!
Amat Aztecs sounds pretty good!
Let take a walk back in time. In the early 90's there was this CIF VS City thing
that a lot of people were trying to put together. At that time one of the teams
to beat was Bishop Amat. There was talk about the CIF champ playing the CITY
winner The Amat AD wasn't crazy about this because he had LA City ties. He went
to Franklin HS. He did not what to play the game. He knew that if they played Amat would win in a one sided game,in his opinion a game that nothing good would happen if they played They didn't need to play the game. So in 1992 CIF and the City
came up with this game at Angel stadium call CIF/Reebok Bowl. Amat won 31-14 in
a one sided game. Bishop Amat finished 15-0. Sylmar ended up 13-1. FAST FORWARD Charter Oaks fans and bloggers want to see their CO team play Bishop Amat to see who is the best in the area. Both sides will tell you their side but the game doesn't happen. Maybe if this game happens it will be like in 1992 in a game that doesn't need to be played and it will be another one sided game won by Amat. Bishop Amat has nothing to prove neither does Charter Oaks. MAY BE Fred Robledo should ask the old AD from Bishop Amat?? Fred he is the present AD FROM Charter Oaks...GM...Ask HIM(not the coach's) the question what would happen if these teams would play?
SGV FOOTBALL...oh my!!!! sccccccaaarrrrryyyyyy,
First lets get one thing straight prick. Let me know what team are you representing and pick a damn screen name so you can stop jumping from one name to another. I'll pick a name for you fat man. "Lovs to blogs on the other teams blog, Tried out a CO couldn't even make the water girl Squad, Depressed old fat man now" Now lets get to business, yes your right you beat harvard westlake but no one one here is talking about harvard westlake like one of the amat guys said before, we are making reference to a team that won CIF this year Westlake High not harvard westlake (unlike cathedral they won somthing and will most likely win it again next year) do you understand that you uninformed prick. Next you're on your high horse about a team that hasn't done squat in the last decade. They have never made an appearance to a championship game and in their new division they will continue their streak and 3 times this year you didnt even make it to playoffs this decade. Good football programs dont miss the playoffs. When it comes to serra they are a great team and I never said serra is no one. I said they always field a good team year in and year out thats why you guys cant seem to beat them.
By the way are you the coach at cathedral that got kicked out this year for molesting a child you f*c*ing dirt bag.
Someone in here said that West Covina may take on a big dog like Notre Dame next year.
Well, believe it or not, I could not have agree more with what my pal Joey has been saying in here in the recent past. Why not have Carter Oak play Serra or Oaks Christian or even (god forbid Silesian ???) play some of these other big names outside of our valley ??
After all, isn’t it time that some of the local teams schedule some of the bigger names out there for next season and beyond ?
I say, lets do it guys !
Yup, it’s time for the local SGV teams to show their mantle, I mean who wouldn’t want to pay big bucks to see West Covina and ND or even San Dimas (Northview etc….) play someone out side of this fish bowl that we call the SG valley ?
Remember, I’m the big time football junkie, and I would most defiantly want to see the local talent play top notch guys outside of this area
when some lightweight throws a weak jab sometimes you just need to comeback with a vicious combination to put them away. if you know the combination is coming - don't throw the jab.
Crazier Things…not nitpicking at all, vision is also very important. Those 11 passes that Muema caught were all screens…at least two went for TDs of over 60 yards…when Muema got space, which was rare, he was spectacular. CO coaches never put Muema into motion and threw him swing passes or threw to him in the flat…if they did??? And, from what I saw, the kid has good hands…go figure. I quit scratching my head or else I’d be bald.
I’ve seen Muema up close and he is at minimum 6’ tall and looks 210 lbs …the kid is a physical specimen. He obviously put a lot of work in the weight room last year so the dedication is there and this may be the most important attribute that pretty much all the successful athletes share.
Next level…no way in hell that Gerhart runs a 4.4. Watch, at the combine he will not break 4.6…which is why he is projected in the 2nd or 3rd round. If he ran 4.4…he’s a 1st round pick.
People, you need to forget those wink-wink “hand times” that some school’s propaganda machines were throwing out there in year’s past as the NFL combine pretty much exposed the lies…most of the elite college RBs are running in the 4.5s and 4.6s…go to the NFL combine results and see for yourself. Heck, the fastest guys on earth run around 4.2 on a hard surface in track clothes. And, what is being overlooked is how a guy’s “track” speed translates to “football” speed…some guys lose a lot when they put on the pads and others very little.
Corona you are a donkey and every time I read one of your posts I hate you more than the previous one. You are so self-centered and an egomaniac. Find something more productive to do with you time other than type on this blog like go coach another youth team and ruin another youth's life. Stop with the long-winded posts already! I thought we banned you from this blog. I feel sorry for those in your life...
REALITY...YOU AR BEIG HURTFUL...WAHHHHHHH WAHHHHHHH WAHHHHHH
Come on guys...at least get your facts straight!!!
The first couple of years it was funny watching Amat break up guys off...then last year it became painful...and it getting ugly!!!
Reality...you know at certain decibels FISH BOWLS break...is that what you are trying to do???
what about all the little fishies??? have you no heart
btw Rocket was robbed !!!! TinCurtain....was "rocket" a pretty good college player too????
lmao
TinCurtain- nice college player? Third in Heisman voting does not describe "nice college player". Colorado's all-time leader in rushing (3,940 yards), all-purpose yards (4,351), and touchdowns (42). He was the nation's second leading rusher in 1990 with 1,628 yards, along with 17 touchdownsg does not describe "nice college player" Finishing third in the Heisman Trophy balloting that year behind BYU's Ty Detmer (the winner) and Notre Dame's Raghib Ismail does not describe "nice college player"
Anybody behind the TinCurtain have any stats like that - anywhere? 8 years in NFL - how many did little JD play? 3 teams in 4 years. Valuable. What's he doing now? EB's still collecting checks from the NFL coaching the best RB in the game. I know it's exciting for you to have ONE former player in the NFL - but it's kinda old hat for the Lancers after Adrian Young, Pat Haden , John McKay, John Sciarra, Paul McDonald, John jackson, Eric Bieniemy, Mazio Royster, Troy Auzeene, Chico Fraley, Daylon McCutcheon, Brian Russell, Will Robinson, Ralph Brown ... well you get the picture don't you?
SGV FOOTBALL are you always wrong or are you just always in the habit of being uninformed....like most SGV FISHBOWLERS you know nothing but SD, CO, SH, DHS, GHS nad on occassio a team that comes out of nowhere like Covina with McD.
Some one was talking about Harvard Westlake looking for a game against a top flight school...Cathedral beat them this year and last. Lost to Serra last year by 1 point. Last tear Serra destroys CO and this year Destroys them worst!!!
The "CHAMPIONSHIP" that has avoided Cathedral or Serra has been in Oaks Christians hands....until this year.
Furthermore Cathedral and Serra are moving up to D3...thats higher than CO isn't it or anyone else in the SGV short of BA...and actually Crespi used to be in Serra and Cathdral's League and all of them are on the rise....You do know who Crespi is don't you...it's that team CO will never play..ever.
LET'S SEE THAT"S SERRA, CATHEDRAL, CRESPI AND OAKS CHRISTIAN IN THE SAME LEAGUE WITH ALEMANY TO BOOT ....COMPARED TO WILSON, BONITA, LOS ALTOS, SOUTH HILLS, ROWLAND AND NORTHVIEW....WOW...I SEE YOUR POINT!!! WHAT A JOKE OF A VALLEY IF THAT ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS PLAY IN THE CORNER WITH YOURSELF UNTIL YOU GO BLIND !!!
Man I will not miss talking to stupid people who know nothing outside this "friends playing friends and neighbor playing neighbor" FISHBOWL VALLEY...GET OUT SOME TIME AND LOOK AROUND.
"Serra is another animal"?...really....try walking in their jungle. Do you know these coaches? Do you know the amount of D1 athletes Cathedral and Serra and Oaks Christan put out in the past two years? Try 20x what CO has. Speed? Ever hear of Randal Carroll..yup Cathedral. National Players of the Year...yup Oak Christain...Ballers....lost count ! I give Roddy and DR credit but what was the OC score when they played....better yet what was teh CO vs OC score...how did Muema do against OC...that's right...never happened...sorry.
"Get over yourself????"...what an imbecile!!!
As far as Rio Hondo Prep goes...after cooler heads prevailed most will say and have said Salesian was the most physical team they had ever faced....that coming from their legendary coach. Salesian is a good physical team and would be a good game for most teams out here..whether you think so or not. Who's the most physical team in the Valley...DR with the xception of Amat...after that it... who else? Who in the Valley is a physical team? Physical like Serra? Doubt it. I've never seen a physical team out here in 7 years that didn't have an A on their helmet or a DR...ever!
Ask people in the know and they will tell you Serra beats CO both years. Cathedral beats SH, WC, DHS,GHS and SD this year and is in every game against any team on their schedule.
SGV FOOTBALL are you the idiot who said Serra was no one and Cathedral was no one to CO...riddle me this ...CO is 26-1-1 in two years with back to back Championships and is no where in the State Championships conversation ,,,AT ALL !!!! yet Serra will be there and Cathedral lost to them by 15 points combined in the last two games...one point last year...14 THIS YEAR...didn't CO almost lose to Gardena and Muir...get serious.
No offense to CO but at least play SOMEONE and then we'll see...anyone think Serra or Cathedral are afraid of Rancho Cucamonga?
Coaching Matters... but so does your schedule.
The nerve!
Just saying that Kordell Stewart made Colorado great! Betheenemy was a nice College baller, but nothing in the NFL! Have you seen Jason David's Superbowl ring lately? Very nice bling! Betheenemy is no Jason David. Just sayin!
Time To Play Serra or Cathedral,
Get over yourself, when was the last time Cathedral won a championship. If it wasn't for their transfer stud at QB you guys would have been 1 and out in the playoffs. I think the QB is a SR this year so next year you guys wont even make the playoffs. As far as Serra goes they always seem to field a good team year and year out. Stop mentioning Rio Hondo Prep, there is a big difference between Rio Hondo Prep and Cathedral, and its simple Rio Hondo is one of the most succesful teams ever to play in the CIF SS, so stop embarassing them they win championships and Cathedral doesn't.
Just to clear it up Charter Oak would kill Cathedral, Now Serra was a different animal this year, beating Oaks who has 11 D1 prospects on their roster was a great accomplishment.
BS-Also been there done that drill at D-1 level. 4.6 poster myself and I can tell you it worked just fine. Something that all football players need and must have is a feel for the game, a nose for the ball and the self discipline to KNOW and DO THEIR assignments within the structure of the offense/defense. Speed is a definite must have and plus but the other intangibles can make up for a lack of 4.4 speed "at the point of contact." Just one mans experience and one mans opinion. Peace.
Hey that Lloyd Benson line is classic beyond comprehension.
I played against Vernon Maxwell from Verbum Dei (NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year), my brother played against Frank M, from Banning ( NFL player and HS Legend), my other brother played against Hardy Nickerson from Verbum Dei (NFL Steelers and Bucaneers LB stud) and when see talent I say to myself....are they up to that level? If not how far down?
* When I say played against I don't mean Salesian vs...I mean..."right" in front...for a whole game...all were incredible and had NFL written all over their magnificently gifted bodies even then...with motors like the ones in fighter jets. Just an honor to see them play.
Best QB I ever saw was Elway....a man among boys if ever that term applied. Also saw the greatest "bust" of all time in Jefferson Qb Bernard Quarles who was Randall Cunningham before there was a Randall Cunningham and got "twisted" at UCLA before heading to Hawaii....what a talent.
Best backs I've ever "heard" about...McCutheon and Bienemy.
Llyod Benson has to have get credit for The Line of the Century...at Dan Qualyle's expense...ouch !!!!
When Colorado was great - Eric Bieniemy was a RB. I was around with Eric Bieniemy, I knew Eric Bieniemy, Eric Bieniemy was a friend of mine. Adam Muema, is no Eric Bieniemy.
"Fishbowlers"!!! Awesome! We've got new "gloss".
Agreed that the Damien game should be a staple. Serra/Cathedral would be good - but there move to the Mission League might hurt those chances because St Paul and St Francis are more traditional/strategic opponents that need to remain on the schedule in some fashion, St Paul is an every year too and St Francis maybe every other two year cycle.
We've always said that 3 locals is too many, so something will give. We do need to play them once in a while for obvious reasons, but 1 good one a year is probably good (outside of Damien) for the schedule that we will have.
to jcaz - Dominguez wasn't scheduled to add strength due to reputation (that doesn't matter so much) but they offered a chance to play against the kind of speed we would face later. BTW - they turned out pretty good didn't they? CIF semis and lost to Alemany (another Lancer victim) Our friend COCF was knocking them after they dropped a few early (to us, Compton and Note Dame) Some people just don't get it.
Its grades! And he lost some speed by trying to become a labeled power back whcih he is NOT.
Power backs with 4.4 speed are like a guy named Gerhart. Anyone know him, just the states rushing leader in HS and RB of the year in NCAA D1
Now, try and understand the hugh difference... Muema is not even in the same class as Johnson and ridiculous to even mention it.
Muema doesn't run anything close to a 4.4. Trust me.
4.6 might work in the WAC, MW, but not the bigger schools. Better check the LBS time first.
Been there done that drill!
Crack Crack Crack ouch!
I would like to see Amat drop DR. That's a done deal and add a 2 time CIF Champion and then Damien for religious reasons. I also don't see West Covina as a team that needs to be on the Lancer schedule. Better for Amat to play Serra who actually has players that might consider Amat as an alternative to the Cavaliers.
I still think the local games were more of a recruiting tool than anything else and that's been done. Amat's schedule will work itself out as more old adversaries renew an old rivalry but wouldn't it be nicer to see Charter Oak or Damien against Carson, Serra or Loyola?
CO is used to winning and being the favorite and after playing Bonita, Los Altos and Wilson will Big Lou want to play a game where he's teh under dog going in when that hasn't happened in 3 years?
Same goes for Damien who is the under dog in about half their games!!!
Now that Cathedral and Serra,...you know the teams that some knucklehead said were the equivalent of Rio Hondo Prep...BTW where is that IDIOT NOW!!!!...moving up to D3...maybe some SGV "FISHBOWLERS" will see them as a good measuring stick....lol
I mean...Serra did beat Oaks Christian and Serra IS playing in a State Chmpionship game....oh well what did I know????
COCF...must be something in the water but I agreed with 99.999% of what you said...lol...but you forgot "vision" as one of a RB's most "trusted/needed" skills/"tools"...is that nitpicking? lol
One thing that most safeties will tell you...and I played the position is "speed" backs make you miss "angles" whereas "power" backs make you miss tackles.
Another thing Muema caught 11 balls all year for what Maxpreps/CO reported which tells me they didn't put Adam in open space as much as he probably would ahve like, and colleges would have like to have seen. Damien's Sainz had big 50 plus run and caught plays and DJ from Amat was an "open space" freak so that has me scratching the little hair I have on my head.
Golden reminds me of DR's Bonilla from last year. Both obviously had teh "engine" colleges want and the "heart" collge players need but somehow people forget they only did what was asked of them and rarely got to showcase all their skills because they were "team first" guys and played their roles.
I wonder why CO would inflate stats on "college level" recruits when their is a huuuuuuuuuuuuge difference between a 6'1" 210 back and a 5"9 185 back.
Anyone know what's going on with Clapper? He' a stud for sure but doesn't get as much love as I thought he would after an awesome Championship Game last year...any one know?
Question?
Just curious as to why Amat is always the one that is supposed to call. Everyone now and years past has always stated that THEY waited for AMAT to call, why do those team wait? does amat have the upper hand, why cant the other teams pick up the phone and call Amat, why is it always everyone waiting for Amat to call them.
I would love to see an amat vs. charter oak game... whether it benefits amat or charter oak, who cares a win is a win of course it will benefit the winner, duh....
Amat vs c.o. has been done and the results were not all that exciting. Amat gains nothing, other than bragging rights, with a win over c.o. The on going "banter" between the Amat Faithful and the c.o. faithful is worth the price of NOT scheduling the game, LOL.
In regard to Adam Muema....are we talking about an electronic 4.4 or a handheld-stop watch 4.4? Huge difference. Either way, the kid is still fast if that's what he's posting handheld. And although the next level is faster, to say that 4.6 wont get it done is ludicrous. Football is about quick burst of speed to cover short distances. If you can reach em within five yards and apply a decent tackle, you wont need 4.4 speed to try and chase him down. Give me the angle and 4.6 speed and I can probably keep him out of the end zone-LOL! Good Luck in the future Mr. Muema, your going to be just fine. Go Lancers!
Hey people...a 4.4 is not standard...especially not for a 17 year old kid who has not reached his peak. The FASTEST College RB at last year's NFL combine ran a 4.45 and only 3 other backs ran under 4.5...and these are the elite college players. So, a 4.4 is not standard. Knowshon Moreno (5’11”, 215 lb) ran a 4.62 and he was a 1st round draft pick and is doing pretty well running for the Broncos…so Muema is not too slow. Most backs are in the 4.6 range and what separates them is power, balance, acceleration, change of speed and direction…and Muema has these tools.
The one knock on Muema is that he tries to cut and break every run and sometimes he just needs to lower his pads and get what he can when met by a couple of linebackers or when he meets a single DB, steamroll him instead of trying to juke.
Golden is a different kind of runner…less power than Muema but he’s faster and can accelerate from zero to sixty in like three steps…expect him to play corner in college.
I saw most of Ian Johnson’s games during his junior year…at that time he was maybe 15-20 pounds lighter than Muema’s weight this year. Johnson ran behind a very good senior laden Damien O-Line and had Nick Davila at QB (he went on to play for the Cincinnati Bearcats), which made it easier on him than what Muema had to deal with this year so comparisons are difficult. Interesting thing is that a knock on Johnson coming out of high school was that he was not fast enough for his size…well, he got bigger and a lot faster…he ran the second fastest time at the combine…a 4.46. I think that Muema is every bit as good as Johnson and all of us in the SGV should be rooting for him to stay healthy and get his chance to show what he has.
Wondering
The sizes are inflated and Colorado will straighten that out. Muema is 5'11" at best and maybe 200. He simply is not the big power back that some think and size and speed will matter at the next level.
Lou did a good job inflated sizes on all his players. Now the real measurements will come out.
Much love to all the CO recruits...playing together would be sweet!!!
The more I think about it the more I see similarities with Muema's style and Herschel Waker's. Both have that square shouldered up right style and both have that crushing tackler style with a quick cross over side step that keeps their shoulders square and their body going north and south instead of east and west.
Herschel of course was 6'1" 225 and had huge muscles in every part of his body but the styles are very similar. Not sure if Muema runs on his toes like Walker but Muema has that style of keeping his shoulders square.
One thing that surprised me when I spoke to Golden has his size and Muema's as well. Both are listed at 6'1" and about 200/210 respectively...are those number correct?
I have another friend on that team and they have him at 6'2" 270 and while he's all of those 270 lbs if not more I doubt he's maybe 6 foot,
I also read on Rivals that Muema was only 5"10? Did he grow 3 inches over the summer?
Dan i hear what you're saying about Muema being a load but did you ever see Sermons, Mc Closkey, McCutheon or Ian Johnson? Is Muema better than those guys? Or how about Bienemy?
Seems I remember all those guys doing incredible runs...which run was Adam's best? Anyone know?
You know, I have to say that the LA Times shows the Lancers allot of love, allot of the time.
Who said the SGV is not well represented or even respected outside of our little burg anyway ?
Check out the latest write up on Amat football history at:

JFR,
Believe it or not, and as funny as this may sound, Amat scheduling Charter Oak would probably benefit the Lancers more than playing any of the other teams that we had this year, on our schedule once again.
The reason for that is because, no matter how any of my fellow “honks” feel about Charter Oak in here, they are nevertheless, still,....a CIF champion !
Keep in mind that that this was the same logic used when Amat scheduled Dominguez. We did that because we felt that by playing a team that had been successful in the past, that benefit would help us more in us more in giving a playoff seeding if it ever came down to the selecting committee needing to have some ammo when deciding who is in or out of a playoff picture.
Dan,
Wow !! I mean, if West Covina could get Notre Dame scheduled for a game this year then let me say it again, wow !!!
A game against a team of that stature would really put the bull dogs on the map out side of the SGV. In fact, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that became one of those Fox sports games of the week because I know for a fact that West Co could hang with the big boys so long as they were healthy.
That would be so Awesome !!
Dan
Disagree on two points. 4.62 will not get it done at the next level. Pretty standard in today game to be 4.4. Maybe he'll get faster as he grows.
As for the physical part of his game, made good strides this year, but there were other power backs that were more physical than Muena. His "cuts" are the most impressive.
Its a way different kind of play at the next level.
By the way, after seen Muema twice this year I
don't think any other SGV running back comes close, not even Golden, no knock on Golden he is a great athlete but as for pure running back Muema is much more physical than any back I've seen in the last few years, and as for his time in the forty, it may not be a 4.4 but he is fast enough, he has football speed, and his change of direction is second to none, I saw him three times as a sophomore and I was impressed back then but he is much more physical as a senior.
Congratulations to Muema, Golden, Powell, & Smith, It would be great to see all four of these boy's stay together and play in college, has this ever happened before, four guy's from the same highschool team going to the same D1 college? I would certainly try to catch a few of Colorado's games in the next few years.
Looks like West Covina will have another decent schedule next year, here is the tenative schedule from what I've heard:
Week 0 - open[Calls have been made to Charter
Oak, Sherman Oaks N.D.,& St. Paul]
Week 1 - Venice - Home
Week 2 - South Hills - Away
Week 3 - Glendora - Away
Week 4 - League Starts or Bye week [I think]
Just got word that Alabama is officially interesred in Dennis Rufus.
LOS ALTOS KICKER GETS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RING said:
I had the Mt. SAC win in the paper, and it was online. I guess you missed it?
Michael Harrell, from Charter Oak, caught the tying TD pass and Jeremy Brown, from Los Altos, kicked the game-winning PAT, from the 25-yard line.
Congratulations AJ, Keith, BG, and Adam! You deserve every opportunity you get. Be smart and maximize that opportunity for the long term betterment of yourself and your family.
You're always welcome to come swimming at Charlie's house. Maybe even some more football trivia! Good luck men!
jcaz, are you guys still playing WC and DR because if you are you would have to run the table and still have some luck to make it to state. Coach Hags wouldnt play another SGV team if thats the case even if you play Boni in the preseason.WE might have won back to back but a third SGV team wouldnt help because I know your coach has one thing in mind. STATE CHAMPIONS! CO Chargerfan, Youngblood is looking better everyday, getting more looks. Believe or not, he is the fastest kid on our team. Dont want to jump the gun and give you ill info but he is getting looks.
Everyone is just in here talking about open schedules but at the same time everyone in here is ignoring the elephant in the room. Amat and Charter Oak need to play a game against one another next year. It’s as simple as that.
Lou Far just said he was looking to fill his schedule, well, what a better way to say, “Hey Amat, I’m here and I’m waiting for that phone call !”
He’s calling out Amat you know. I like that….
Anyway, as for Amat’s schedule next year, here is what we have so far. At the very beginning, we most likely have to play St Bonnies. After that first game, we will still need to play Compton Dominguez and of course, we will have the four league games this year instead of the usual three.
That my friends, leaves us with at least 4 open dates for a game against either Charter Oak, and or South Hills.
Also, keep in mind that will have to suffer through another one of those bi weeks this time around because if we do in fact play St Bonnies, it will most likely be in zero week.
BTW, as everyone in here already knows, having a bi week is not something that Hags likes to do, however, I actually love it because it gives me a chance to see a few of the other “local teams” play a game when I ordinarily would not have been able to have done so.
So, lets have that game scheduled like, tomorrow !!
Way to go Mt Sac. BTW - that name "Michael Harrell" sounds familiar. Wasn't he the kid from Charter Oak. Great weekend, I'd say.
Fred, NO NEWS FROM YOU?
Mt. SAC Men's Football Captures STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!
December 12, 2009
The Mt. SAC Men's Football Team captured their second Football State Championship. The Mounties defeated College of San Mateo 7-6 in what was projected to be a high scoring game. The game was won on a 64-yard touchdown pass from Matt Faulkner to Michael Harrell and Jeremy Brown's PAT in the third quarter. Mt. SAC earned it's first state title since 1997 after Craig Payne made an interception in the the last minute of the game. Payne was named Most Valuable Player and Matt Faulkner, who finished the game with 162 yards on 10-of-22 passing, was named Offensive Player of the Game. Coach Bob Jastrab wins his first State Championship after his third appearance in the title game.
For more information, please contact the Mt. SAC Sports Information Office at 909.594.5611 ext. 4629.
SGV, we beat Harvard/Westlke in 1998 at CO in the finals. We beat Chaminade in the semis and they beat Los Altos in the semis, crazy year. Steve Stevenson was POY in the SGV.
Joe Amat,
Dont get all worked up with me, yes I wrote a typo and added harvard sorry , king patrol of the Robledo blog. Its true people do not associate the SGV with Perennial football teams, RIGHT? I wasn't knocking any particular teams in the SGV i was knocking the entire SGV as a whole.
Maybe, just maybe Joe but I'm skeptical because the CIF has the same "educator" type folks as those running the BCS and they won't allow us a true College playoff system because they are more concerned with covering each other's back to protect their own turf than setting up a fair, rational system...CIF's track record proves that they are no different.
SGV FOOTBALL,
Westlake, from the city of Westlake Village, is a different school than Harvard-Westake, which is in North Hollywood and no where near Westlake Village... or Harvard - so does that make any sense?
But you're right, Westlake will be looking for someone with "National" prominence like Mater Dei... wait... who eliminated them from the playoffs? ... because we know the "big dogs in high school football ... don't reside in the san gabriel valley
!:?)
Harvard Westlake is moving into the Mission League after Alemany CIF Runner-up is moving out... and into the Serra to make the Serra a 5 team league and giving them 3 automatic spots (no more At-Large headaches for the Pac5 for a while).
For someone who asked earlier on another thread, Serra and Cathedral both are moving up and into the D3 Mission League to make that a 6-team league with Chaminade, St Francis, and St Paul.
On another interesting note I was talking with someone form Orange County and it appears the South Coast League got wise and is becoming a 10 team *Conference* with two 5 team leagues. They will move up and down by individual sport based on performance. Everybody's happy!
This is what I suggested to the SGV ADs when our releaguing mess took place. It would have been great for us to have 2 three league conferences and adjust everybody based on that. You know those people who say I told you so... I'm one of them.
Oh Well... maybe in 2014
Westlake went to Hawaii in the fall of 2007, looks like it might be time for another trip but I think they're wanting an Inland Division or PAC-5 Division game. Upland should check it out.
I bet the team would love to play westlake, but I bet harvard only having 1 preseason game they are looking for a program with National presence. Mater Dei, Servite, Edison, Mission Viejo, teams that always make their presence felt during the playoffs. I'm not putting down CO we all know who the big dogs in high school football are, and we know they dont reside in the san gabriel valley. Damn maybe they should look out of the state and play teams out of california just like Esperanza did this year or De La Salle does every other year, oaks christian did it this year also, Carson etc.
Westlake HS is looking for 0 week opponent. Charter Oak should set that one up.
Just want to congratulate both CO and SD on their seasons. I overheard someone say that SD has a few former CO players on their coaching staff. Big Lou has influence everywhere!!
