ALL YOU BLOGGERS PLEASE NOTE...If you want to high school football at it's best GO (WATCHING ON TV IS NOT THE SAME) TO THE HOME DEPOT CENTER THIS WEEKEND. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!! I have gone to the last 3 years and I can't tell you how good it is to see the BEST teams in the state play. GO TO AS MANY GAMES AS YOU CAN. THEY DON'T KICK YOU OUT YOU CAN ALL 3 GAMES FOR THE SAME PRICE!!!
I have been reading all this about the CO players and AMAT players . My take is they are all very gifted individuals and I hope they all get the rides to the colleges of their choice or to any school offering if they are satisfied with the school. On the other point about who is better or who is average is a tough topic. The point that AMAT LANCER is trying to make as I see it is if and this is a huge if , the CO team was to play in the PAC -5 what kind of numbers would they have put up playing the likes of say the Trinity League or any other in the PAC-5 . Before you CO honks ( Hey that's a spin ) go off on me I think it is a ridicules point to try and make .They are outstanding athletes and they have the talent to suceed at any college they choose.I for one would have loved to have seen any one of them in an AMAT uniform this season. Believe you me they would have excelled without a doubt in my mind.Muema on an AMAT team probably would have even greater numbers than he had with CO . This was something that was better off left unsaid and we should just congratulate all the fine young men of the SGV whether they are all league or all valley or just members of a team because football is a team sport and everyone on the team is just as valuable as anyone else .
CO Steel,
Hard to do when you have the top talented athletes at Amat winning football games using multi-sport players. Amat wins football games with baseball players (says alot). By the way the list is there for the colleges they are going to, but they choose to play Baseball. At Amat they are athletes not just football players. We have high quality athletes come to Amat to play multiple sports.
SGVsBest,
Next season is going to be year 3 for Hags.
LB's will be STRENGTH of D.
Soph. Alcantara is going to be stepping up on D. Real ballhawk.
Big question: Who is going to replace Big Daddy Kane?
On offense, 3 of the 5 OL spots need to be filled.
QB, RB set.
Special teams need a kicker and punter.
I can envision some transfer help assisting with some of these needs, especially on the lines.

Quoting Fred "coach Farrar couldn't believe the nimber of scoutS at the CHARGERS' practices last week leading up to Friday's 21 - 0 Victory"
Keith Smith - Penn St, Harvard, Several West Coast schools
Adam Muema - About to write his ticket
B Golden - Pac 10
Aj Powell - Colorado, SD St
Amat??? Can we have your list please?
To all 8 1st teamers from Amat, good job! Everyone else, nice but come back next year. This is getting watered down way too much. Don't you think Amat honks?
Also, your loaded talent and great coaching staff finally will get you a Championship next year! Am I right Amat honks? No pressure, No surpise, No bulls eye, No excuses! Get it done! Servite did it!
Is this going to be year 3 or 4 for Hags?
Does anybody know. How young is that defense going to be?
With the exception of Smith, Grades may be a factor here...
Air Force Academy wouldn't be knockin for Smith if he didnt have the grades and Sat's. He also would need recommendation from Dreier.
This is how all this crap gets started. Just Sayin' don't even try right now. Whoever this wise up character he just insulted a student-athlete and he should commit sepuku. I should quote it for you "Colorado invited them all but as a selling tool only to land Muema." That's not the class people from Amat espouse to be, and you defended a person that did so.
COChargerfan - don't you have a basketball game to go to?
Here's exactly what the post said "had Charter Oak played D1 pac 5 football they become normal and are just another team and their players are just avg. players."
So let's break that down. "had Charter Oak played D1/Pac5" Now that means, had the TEAM played - yes? Otherwise he would have written "had these players played - "
If they are playing with THAT team in THAT division they are running behind THAT line, with that little sophomore QB, ect. Then they "become normal and are just another team".
Drop them individually onto an existing team and they'd compete. Would Muema run for 2,000 yds - probably not. Ask Bryce McBride or Dorian Wells the difference. Just another Pac5 player - but not dominant.
And isn't football a team sport. So you can have all the individual players you want. It might be even more impressive that Amat achieves what they do without a long list of studs. At the end of the day, I bet you can pick any 4 year year period you want in history and there will be more Amat grads playing in college than anyone else in the valley.
But we've been down this road before. Now hurry up - it's almost tip-off isn't it?
C'mon guys, really? What AMAT fan would come on here and sign their name AMAT LANCERS and then proceed to rip on kids who excelled in their sport? This clown is obviously an AMAT poser and probably the same IDIOT that has been trying to stir the proverbial pot all season! Ignore that clown and on behalf of the more reasonable and stable part of the Amat Family, "Congratulations to all the athletes getting looks, may you all succeed and good luck in your future football endeavours!" Go Lancers!!!
Really Wise Up...I read right...LANCER called these CO recruits "average players"...it is what it is. And, now more garbage...Colorado only invited Powell, Smith and Golden as a selling tool to Muema? So you are saying that Colorado has no REAL interest in these kids...really? Do you realize that Rivals is reporting that Colorado (and Washington State) has already offered to Golden; Air Force Academy, Nevada and Utah to Smith; and Colorado St., New Mexico and UTEP to Powell? More "token" offers? Seems that the college coaches think that these CO players are better than guys on Amat's team regardless that they played in the lowly D7 Southeast...things that make you go hmmm?
CO Charger fan,
You missed the point. The post said Charter Oak playing in pac 5 D1, This CO team is Average at best and the players are average. Take into account what is around these players as teamates and how would their numbers and stats be playing in the Pac5. I am sure the scouts are right in evaluating their talents. Had Muema or the other three played at a pac 5 school I am sure they could compete and contribute. As a whole, the Charter Oak team playing in the pac5 D1 division and these players just do not put up stats like they did in a lowly Division 7 competition. Colorado invited them all but as a selling tool only to land Muema.
AMAT LANCER...if these CO kids are just "ave. players", than why are they being offered by multiple D1 colleges? So, please tell us what qualifies you as a better evaluator of talent than the college football coaches at these D1 programs?
These kids are great athletes who could play and shine in any division, including the Pac-5 and anyone who says otherwise is simply ignorant. I'd venture to say that the vast majority of the players in the Pac-5 will not ANY get D1 offers so how is it that these CO kids couldn't shine in the Pac-5 but are good enough to play D1 College football...totally illogical.
Exactly how many of Amat players curently have D1 offers? Are there any? Because, I checked Rivals and I couldn't find any listed.
Suggest that you stop and think first because bad mouthing these kids just makes you look like a bitter, jealous loser and it is this kind of stuff that justifies people's hating on Amat...try representing your school with the class that it deserves.
Congrats to all Lancers up there on 1st team and 2nd team lists. All deserving of the honor and compared to athletes and schools with lots of Talent and awesome coaching. When you are compeating against Loyola,Crespi and Notre Dame make no bones about it you are in one tough league and are playing and compeating against some of the top players in California. Well represented on that list Lancers.
Brandon Golden and Adam Muema Champions lets give it up to them. A ring and a Title Banner lets give up to them.
Lastly, but against who at the end? Diamond Ranch.??? A win is a win and a Championship is a Championship but had Charter Oak played D1 pac 5 football they become normal and are just another team and their players are just avg. players. I do not even see them in a at-Large playoff round. As the saying goes, you want to test your skills against the best and live in the SGV enroll at Amat. You want a to be a D7 champion enroll at Charter Oak. There is just no comparison. Tribune top 10 Amat #1 CO #2. ENOUGH SAID!.
Charter Oak will be playing Bassett in football next season. Farrar feels that his Charger program is ready for the "Big Boys" now that they've mopped up their division for 2 years in a row. Although Farrar initially expressed concern over the distance needed to travel to Basset, he curbed his strong desire to cancel the contest...much to the delight of fans all over Los Angeles county.
If I am not mistaken, Amat has to play St Bonnies next year at their place, and if that is so, then that means that week zero will already be taken for the Lancers.
Now, the brings up an interesting scenario here in that coach Hag's has indicated in the past that he doesn’t like to have bi-weeks on his schedule, but if we end up playing a zero week game against St Bonnies next year, then we are doomed to have one of those situations creep up in our schedule the next time around.
BTW, someone in here mentioned earlier that Charter Oak has a week 5 opening available. Any idea who they may want to play ???
Just asking that’s all....
Hey guys I know your oogling this thing and picking it apart as I am. But what are the openings on Amat's schedule(Week O or 1)...somebody tell Coach Haggerty that Westlake High School is looking for a top opponent to fill its only non-league slot since the Marmonte went to a ten team league.

the correct spelling is D A R I E N Johnson.
Matt Johnson is a Senior.
Julian Gener is a Junior.
julian gener is a junior not a senir
julian gener is a junior not a senir
just for your fyi
Julian Gener is a Junior not a Senior Fred
dont wrry about size next year amat had a small dline this year, look at them two all leagues and an mvp
It's been a while since I've been on the blog so let me say it now..AMAT,WHAT A SEASON! THANKS TO THE TEAM, COACHING STAFF AND SUPPORT STAFF. WHAT A MEMORABLE YEAR AND CONTINUED SUCCESS TO NEXT YEARS TEAM AND ALL SENIORS IN YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
I don't know if these are the same Amat linebackers that I watched play as freshman, but if they are, could they hit back than! It was obvious then that they played ball before they got to Amat. Not really big, but able to hit with force! My concern is with the average size of next years D and O lines, but then again I don't know too much about the linemen.
he is
I thought that Matt Johnson was a senior.
Bishop Amat has 7 players that made the Second Team All Serra List.
All but 2 of them are Seniors.
The 2 Seniors are the kicker and the punter.
That's 5 returning and more than likely First Team All Serra players next season.
just sayin',
How's this:
Ragsdale was NOT perfect this season. Sure he had a couple of nice FG's but he was NOT perfect.
Did you see ALL of the ND kicker's body of work this season to make an INFORMED guess/opinion on HIS body of work?
73,
Ops, I guess that what happne's when you start to get old. First you start to lose the hearing, then it's the eye sight, and later your starting to take a little blue pill.
YIKES !!
Hey, I know whats comming form my fan base over that one, but isn't there a joke somewhere in that one there ?
Ha ha ha, Man, too bad football season is over. I really miss those jokes.....Oh well, got to wait for next year on that subject eh, sigh....
Oh, TCbruin, thanks for that little tid bit there, because as often as I would be out there after school watching practice with all those other old men, I guess I must have missed that one !
Oh and FB102, come on ! Crespi ? Sure they beat us this time around, but weren't they at home after the season ended watching Amat play this year ?
Thanks, Just sayin....
Scouting Report -
40 yd dash
Muema = 4.62
Golden = 4.49
'nuff said
Congratulations to all these young men for their accomplishments. Hey Mel Kiper this blog is about the best of the Serra League not Charter Oak, so get on out of here. Go celebrate your D-7 Championship and stop being jealous of the ELITE.
You know I'm not impressed with these all league winners when you consider the talent base Charter Oak has faced over the past three years.
To all the people saying Brandon Golden was more explosive than Adam Muema. If you take 25-30 carries a game and are delivering and taking hits it slows you down. Once Muema softened up the Diamond Ranch defense Golden just walked in fresh and made it look too easy. If Golden was the starting back he would have a great season just like Muema. Imagine Golden beating up the defense first and then putting Muema in the 4th quarter he would light up any defense.
fb102 - Actually it was the Notre Dame kicker that beat out Ragsdale for the 1st team placekicking spot. Crespi's guy was the punter. But who's nit-picking? Oh, that's right - you were.
jcaz,
Ragsdale was NOT perfect this season. Sure he had a couple of nice FG's but he was NOT perfect.

when r u going to post the miramonte all league
Oh Freddie,
Have fun with your post-football depression. This was always a hard time of year. You go from packed stadiums to 150 people watching hoops in a gym.
Congratulations to the Men in Blue on their all league status. Great job by all and this is a nice accomplishement for all. Jcaz, I don't know what list you see but there under first team defensive backs is Johnson on the list I see.
jcaz,
Big Daddy Kane wore #91 in practice and #65 in games.
I guess that whenever you put up a list like this, that your going to have more than a few good payers left off.
I suppose what surprises e the most is that Ragsdale want selected isn’t the number one kicker or that DJ don’t even crack that list in anyone’s number one or number two.
Additionally, Rio earning first team honors after only playing varsity for the first time this year was somewhat of a surprise to me given the fact that he will most likely be playing another “more significant” position for the Lancers next year.
Also, wasn’t Kane’s jersey number 65 ?
Joey it's always easier to see the POY and the COY when, like the Heisman, we can see who's in the running.
Anyone want to take a crack at the top four or five to select from?
I still would favor the BA "team" but good ideas never fly around here...even when Amat 73 thought of it first!
S.G.V. Constituent,
I think it's entirely possible, and almost probable, that a non-MVP in the Division 1 Serra League would be considered for the SGV POY. This situation says something completely different and you're point speaks to exactly what we say all along.
Didn't you find it interesting that a player like Dorian Wells could go from 2nd team All-Serra League as a Junior(& not on the All-SGV 1st team) to SGV Tribune Player of the Year as a Senior. He MAY have been 1st team as a senior in the Serra League had he been allowed to stay at Amat as a senior, but most certainly would not have been the league MVP. Yet he was the SGV POY at South Hills looked like the second coming of Marcus Allen by dominating against their schedule.
Now did he get THAT much better, or do you think the change in competition might have boosted his numbers... just a bit? What do you think? (and BTW - if anyone wants to catch Dorian play check the upcoming FCS final when Villanova plays Montana)
Deitrich Riley from St Francis should be the SGV Star News POY on the westside and I'm not certain he'll get the D3 Mission Leagues MVP, which might go to the RB at Alemany.
That being said, as I've said since the end of the regular season, Amat did not have that standout player with unreal numbers who dominated opponents every game. It was one of the most *team* oriented seasons ever. Now, that's not to say any of those guys might not be the *best* player. And the Tribune has made it clear over the years that the award doesn't necessarily go to the best player anymore than their weekly list has the *best* team at the top.
But the best season goes to Adam Muema form Charter Oak. Had the best season on a team that went back to back. That might not even make him the best player on his own team, as Golden was more explosive but Muema had the numbers to earn the award.
Joey
Pretty funny. My freshmen & sophomore years (1973 71974 seasons) we played a brutal schedule as you know..Notre Dame, Crespi, St. Francis, St. John Bosco, Loyola and Cantwell after playing Pius X, Long Beach Poly and Banning.
My Freshmen year Eddie Gutierrez made 1st team All League and my sophomore year Alonzo Munoz made 1st team All League at Middle Linebacker....those were accomplishments.
Eddie went on to play for ELA College in their Championship run and later played for USC recording a record day while sacking Guy Benjamin from Stanford. He was a legend at Salesian and they retired his number. He was barely 5"9 as I remember but had All American written all over him...just a flat out winner.
Alonzo on the other hand was about the same size but never was a starter in three years of ball...I mean he played but "standout"... no. He is the classic senior mission player who worked from the last day of his junior year until the last play of his senior season.
When the All League winners came out he was 1st team...IN THAT LEAGUE after never starting at that position before! Pretty incredible. Everyone was shocked because we went 4-6 if I recall..not sure about that record but it's close. Even then it was 11 players plus the punter so that's even more incredible.
One day I asked him if he was surprised he won and he said..." I wanted to be the best I could be and some one noticed." When I asked him what it felt like to be the best in that league given all the talent that was going on to major schools he said...." You know Frank....I just wanted to never regret not being the best I could be...plus I was never very good..you know that....I just decided to dedicate everything in myself to proving something to myself. Maybe some people think I don't deserve it but the coaches did...and that's all that matters." I looked at him and asked him point blank..."Did you deserve it?" ..without a hint of arrogance he said..."For that one season...I was the best at my postion...no doubt."...and you know ... he was right!
Joey tell me true....do more and more choices these days confuse you? Back then coaches just laid it on the line and everyone did what was right ....now it seems that too many players get All League honors on day one of Spring Ball. Sometimes the best player at a position and the league's best player is on the worst team...as I've said before in THAT league in 1972 Salesian earned 21 All League honors by 16 players....and finished in their place!!!
The All Valley honors this year are going to be out of this world...lol.

Scares me to think that a non M.V.P. from the Serra League (meaning Bishop Amat) would be considered a potential S.G.V. Player of the Year. Absolutely B.A. should have representatives as 1st Team All-Valley but none of their players should be S.G.V. Player of the Year. I'm sorry and am not trying to upset anyone but this is just one person's opinion but honestly facts are facts.
Congratulations to all athletes winning honors! Your hard work and dedication to your craft has shown all season! Davis Cazares-Thanks for the thrills all season long. You're a hell of a ball player and I think someone is going to get a gem when the come across you buddy. Good luck. Again congratulations to all players selected and keep working hard guys. It waas truely my pleasure to watch you guys perform!!
JFR,
Have to agree. It's nice to "honor" kids but we are a only 4 team league. That means 53 of a potential 88 starters (assuming NO ONE went both ways) received 1st or 2nd team honors.
Sort of like creating 13 champions when their used to be 5, although their ar eat least more schools. You can still only play 11 on either side of he ball.
But in the long run, I guess more kids get to say they were "all-league" and tell their grandkids - so what's really the harm. After all, like all of us... the older I get the better I was !:?)
Here we go again, when I played there was one O & D POY and eleven Ist teamers period. I'm not picking on your league amat because ours is twice as bad. Fred, we should have a pool on which league submit's the most kids. I choose the Miramonte hands down.
