Above: Glendora getting ready for showdown at Damien on Wednesday.

Boys Basketball top ten
1. Bonita (14-3) - Beat Damien and San Dimas back-to-back to take over the top spot. The Miramonte League up next.
2. Damien (12-3) – Dropped from top spot by Bonita, and now gets Glendora in one of the best rivalry games the area has to offer on Wednesday night at Damien.
3. Glendora (11-3) - Damien beat them in the championship of the West Covina tournament, but how will the Tartans fare in their final season in the Sierra?
4. Bishop Amat (13-4) – Ready for Del Rey after finishing non-league with a close loss to Chino Hills.
5. Baldwin Park (14-1) - Will their be any school records left after the Braves finish the season?
6. South Hills (11-3) – Winners of six of their last seven take on Nogales on Friday in bid to win the San Antonio league.
7. Nogales (11-6) – With Walnut and South Hills surging and defending champ Diamond Ranch reeling, can the Nobles win the San Antonio league?
8. Northview (10-7) - Back to back losses to Damien and Nogales.
9. Charter Oak 11-4 — Winners of eight of past nine are hoping to give Bonita all it can handle in league.
10. San Dimas (8-7) – Lets see how they do against Baldwin Park in a Valle Vista league game on Wednesday.

Bishop Amat lost to Chino Hills 68-51 and were down by that in the 1st half. That’s a “close loss”? 17pts and never in doubt? The Rosemead, Pioneer, Arroyo part of the schedule is over. One thing is for sure, they are not ready for the Del Rey League-even though it is a down year for the league, outside of Serra.

Glendora will get smoked tomorrow night, Damien stopped Calvin in their 1st game with Brett playing for Glendora, with him out due to injury for game, Glendora will just get beat by more than last time.

When did Diamond Ranch move into the San Antonio League for basketball??? Or is that just “it’s not football season so nobody catches mistakes?”

  • le

    don’t hate, appreciate

Great to see Baldwin Park having another good season! Administration took away 6th period athletics and the football and basketball teams just continue winning! Great Job coaches and boys! Basketball team will have there 3rd 16+ win season in a row. Can’t wait to see how the season turns out. Keep the train rolling boys!

What went unnoticed in Damien’s win over Glendora in the West Covina tourney was the lack of dominance from sophomore Chris Reyes… Reyes struggled with foul trouble in that game and finished with just 7 points, but even more concerning? Just 5 shots… Damien needs to go through him on offense while letting Chris Adams pick his spots.. Adams is the most impressive offensive player I’ve seen this year which includes Derek Brown, Calvin Smith and C.J. Miller, etc… If Glendora can limit Reyes’ touches in the post and get to the free throw line with some consistency, they will certainly have a shot… I believe Glendora will probably not have enough offense to get over the top here in the first Sierra league game, but they will get stronger as the Sierra goes on as tradition has it… I think Glendora will need to find a compliment to Smith obviously in Helbergh’s absence.. Doering does a good job of getting into the lane while Jon Healy does a good job on the glass.. Damien is still struggling to find their third scorer as well as getting Reyes to play consistently great.. Terrell Bolden will be that guy. When being agressive to score, Bolden is a good driver. He had problems with turnovers in the West Covina championship, but against Damien he was very effective as a scorer in spurts..

    Reguarding Tech Support’s Post:

Diamond Ranch has not moved into the San Antonio League for basketball. DR only plays Nogales. Rowland, West Co, South Hills & Walnut also face another team from another league 2x.

There is a phenom, blowing in the wind. Stay tuned.

  • The Tartan Dynasty is Over

Glendora isn’t Glendora any more. The System is down and out for the count. Painful to watch the Tartans this year with a shell of a team. Chino Hills is just plain awful as Derek Brown sleep walks his way to a D1 ride in search of competition. Ayala is nothing with Gregory and will get destroyed in the Sierra. The Damien Spartans have turned the corner and are the beast every one feared they would one day become. Too much lenght, shooting ability and numbers to expect Dunn not to win the Sierra League Championship undefeated. With the two Chris’ doing their thing this team should be in the CIF Finals. You heard it here first.

Hey i was right, Damien destroys Glendora by 22 without Heilberg. Calvin is their only player on the squad. That is what separates this Glendora team from others, they dont have a 2 or 3 scoring option so when you double team one guy their 2 or 3 can hurt you, this team doesnt have that. Damien shut down everyone else and Calvin had his good game and Damien wins big, it was real quiet on the Glendora side last night. Chino Hills on Friday night is even bigger

  • Alewysius

I highly doubt that Damien will run away with the Sierra League. Don’t forget about Chino Hills. Furthermore, I don’t think Damien will be in the CIF finals. Eisenhower, Pasadena or Peninsula will be a tough match-up for Damien. I can see them in the Semis at best. They have a tough time against athletic opponents, 2 of their 3 losses are from quick/athletic teams (RA & Los Osos)

  • Alewysius

Bishop Amat: Am I dreaming or is it deja vu all over again? Better yet, is it that time of year when Amat stinks up the league. Will it be last place or second to the last? It’ll be a close race between Amat & St. Bernard’s.

    What a stinker!

    Chris,

I know. Was just commenting on the part of the top 10 that says D Ranch won the San Antonio League last year which would have been a neat trick.
