Romano, I stand corrected

Did You Know: That Nogales baseball coach John Romano has 542 wins. Mr. Legend took exception in a recent thread when I named the best baseball teams returning along with the usual contenders, I forgot to mention the Nobles. Honestly, he’s absolutely right, they have been one of the most consistent over the last decade, and have won 101 games over the last five years. He says I have my favorites and that Nogales isn’t one of them. Not true at all, even though he still calls me Roblato, and continues to remind me that I’m not one of his top ten Trib prep editors of all time ..

    Fred,
Is it true Matt Munoz just transferred to SD from Covina and already has the OK to play? Thats BS, if the made the can deny the Canada brothers, or have Jacob sit out a year coming west covina or even deny Wallace fom Glendora to Amat then this kids should sit out or play JV. CIF will lose all trust if this happends. I am all abou the lids playing but they need to be fair and what is good fro one is good for all.

    Check it out for us.

I saw that rumor also and immediately called San Dimas coach Mike Regan who said he knows nothing about it, and as far as he knows, Munoz is not at San Dimas.

I’ve been hearing that Paul Paez will not be playing for Bishop Amat this year because of the problems he has been having with his coaches. Is this true????

  • FredJ

My Amat insider says that Paez is with the team, and was with them over the weekend.

Hoping we don’t have a repeat of the attention deficit to wrestling’s season start this year in your pages, can track and field get a mention along with the pre-season hype for baseball. Both start the same time and pre-league season meets have been happening already. Athletes from area schools are among those taking part in the inaugural State Invitational indoor track meet in Fresno this Saturday. The calendar is full of other events, including the Bishop Amat Relays at Citrus College and the Claremont Novice Trials, both March 6; the Bronco Invitational, 3/13 at Cal Poly; Ontario Christian on 3/20; Pasadena Games at PCC and Chino Relays, both 2/27; Covina Invitational 4/3 at Azusa Pacific; and the prestigious Arcadia Invitational, 4/9-10 at Arcadia HS. League dual meet schedules are probably already available to the Tribune. Last year, after what some would describe as a late start, we were given good coverage through your web sources. Stll mentioned only winners in dual meets in the paper, though, when second and third places get points too. You know, like those who get ink for scoring points, getting hits or making errors in baseball, basketball and other sports.

You seem to have the insider scoop on everything baseball, so whats the word your hearing on LVL baseball? New coach with college and big time high school baseball experience – I know they are still D VI – but I hear he has upgraded the non conference schedule.

    Your wisdom would be appreciated!

  • Speaking of rumors

Speaking Rumors Fred, I heard Kevin Niebla From Wilson is ineligible to play due to grades and Steven Baltierra might sit out his junior year from wilson because i guess he got in a arguement with the coach

  • that is bs fred

    thats bs fred
you have your favorites and nogales is not one of them
    do not deny it
its written all over your writing…your biases towards schools such as south hills and amat
    quit kidding yourself
    you are biased…admit it

    thank you

  • TBone

Not sure what to make of Romano for calling that in…it’s early February and worried about a preseason blog? Seems statistical driven when you given win totals last 5 years and your career record. It’s different if you were called and asked. It isn’t whether Nogales is a personal favorite of Freds…they’re not a favorite of valley readers and they don’t win their league (South Hills does) so not too many second place teams getting press.

  • FredJ

I’m biased toward teams that win league titles and CIF championships, which the past few years have included Bishop Amat, South Hills, San Dimas, Northview and Charter Oak, it’s that simple. Why is this so hard to figure out?
