Boys Basketball: South Hills No. 1 for the first time in years; San Dimas-Northview II on deck

Above: San Dimas and Northview meet again on Wednesday

Boys Basketball top ten
1. South Hills (17-3) – The winners of ten straight haven’t lost in 2010 yet, where or where did this come from? Yes, lets make ‘em No. 1
2. Damien (16-6) – Now that they’re two-game back of Chino Hills, the Sierra league title could be a moot point, but they still have one more shot at those Huskies.
3. Bonita (19-4) - Maybe with Diamond Ranch down the Bearcats that they could cruise to the Miramonte League title. Not so quick, Charter Oak took care of that, and now they’re tied for first at 4-1.
4. La Verne Lutheran (14-7) -- They play everyone except for the teams in our Valley. Hope that changes, but the evidence is loud and clear, they draw more division one interest than anyone by far.
5. Bishop Amat (16-5) – After a Del Rey League opening pounding from Serra, they bounce back with win two straight wins.
6. Charter Oak (16-6) — The huge win over Bonita speaks volumes. Maybe they had been underachieving all along.
7. Glendora (15-7) - They use to be able to win the big games, or at least a few of them. Not this season, maybe the time has come. Maybe the era of Glendora dominance is just about over.
8. San Dimas (14-8) – They have the inside track with a home game against Northview. A win all but guarantees at least a tie of the title.
9. Baldwin Park (19-3) - As great as this season has been, the Braves are in danger of finishing third in the Valle Vista league after a second loss to San Dimas.
10. Northview (15-8) – Facing San Dimas on Wednesday to take over sole possession of first, which would almost guarantee at least a tie for the VVL.

  • south hills management sucks

I heard Umodu was out for the year.

  • Amused Reader

How’s La Verne Lutheran’s recruiting class coming? Do they even have classes there or are they just an AAU team?

  • Not amused by you

    Not amused by you:

Now your taking shots at the students and the academic integrity of an institution that you obviously know nothing about. There is a reason Stanford has been recruiting there, they need great STUDENT-athletes and that is what they will find. Have you personally been recruited to play there at LVL…I don’t think so, they don’t have to recruit when the talent playing together are friends or friends of friends who had interest in a good program coupled with a school that offers more personalized attention with small class sizes. It’s ok, we forgive you for commenting when you find yourself so amused with illegitimate info. Good job Boys, keep playing hard and working your butts off in the classroom!!

  • hahaha….

    not amused by you,

your very ignorant if you think LVL doesn’t recruit.

  • Mike

    -
I think it was implied in the previous message, LVL recruits “friends of friends”

    Fred,
You seem to be overlooking something.

Are high school players allowed to taunt opposing coaches?

A South Hills player was taunting the Nogales coach throughout the game. Should have been given a tech early but refs let it go. This resulted in an ugly incident after the game when parents, players and school officials were shocked to see unsportsmanlike & horrible display of not just lack of character, but total disrespect for the game and its participants. Even the SH coach started to go after a parent in the stands.

What a shame!High School basketball lowered itself to this level. Totally ghetto. That particular SH player should be suspended from basketball completely. This is total embarrassment to the South Hills basketball program and the school itself.

And this player is being recruited to play college football?

CIF should be notified of this horrible incident.

@ larry. first off, emotions flared and the players of BOTH teams were going at it. it’s the game. the game was exciting and fun to watch, you must be a nogales fan. secondly, i witnessed what happened after the game. a parent from NOGALES went to the south hills coach and wanted to start a conflict. get your facts straight.

  • Tyrese Robinson

    To Larry:

“A South Hills player was taunting the Nogales coach throughout the game.”
-There’s one side to the story, there’s another side to the story, then there’s the facts. ‘Nuff said.

“Even the SH coach started to go after a parent in the stands.”
-Again, you do not know both sides of the story. The fact is those parents were talking trash to the South Hills coach throughout the game and wanted to fight him. Of course the coach would kick their asses but he let them off.

“What a shame!High School basketball lowered itself to this level. Totally ghetto.”
-Racist remarks of “ghetto”; know the true meaning of that word and use it correctly.

“That particular SH player should be suspended from basketball completely.”
-For supposedly “taunting” someone he should be suspended from basketball? Not a chance. You sir are a racist.

“And this player is being recruited to play college football?”
-Do not be jealous of his players skills and talents. Hater.

-Larry, you are a person who lacks perspective and judgment. You need not judge from first glance and get your facts straight before you rant about South Hills and its people.

  • Character Counts

Tyrese – Character is setting high standards for yourself and NOT lowering them when others behave poorly. What the Nogales crowd did reflects on them – and is irrelevant to South Hills behavior. The SH player and coach were out of control and displayed poor character. Period.

  • Joe

Tyrese- i totally agree with you. Although i do not attend SH, every single game i have watched depicts similar “characteristics”… i attended the SH and Nogales game as a visitor and in fact, a Nogales player “ball tapped” Umodu. what kind of characteristics is that???? in fact, the parent called out the coach, and the coach approached the situation in a nice, easy manner, but the parent kept on going. i do not think that SH or Umodu should be held accountable for any of these remarks. ghetto? thats racist.
