La Verne Lutheran with it’s great recruiting class can’t seem to beat the big boys. I’m sure there’s some small school you can pound on.

Wow. Workman must be back??? All year long no one mentioned the defending Montview champs and now that they are 9-1 and won back to back league titles Observer brings back the hate!!! I love it!!!

Observer I too was at the game last night. It was a close game. The Lobos needed 20 points in the 4th quarter to pull of the victory. I believe Workman’s sophomore and Co-Captain Alex Cazares scored half of the Lobos 4th qtr points Including 2 clutch free throws in the last seconds of the game. You are right the coaching staff did bring in Miles to inbound the ball in the last seconds of a close game that they needed to win to pretty muck lock up the league title for the 2nd year in a row who would do such a thing? I cant believe a coach would bring in his only experienced returner to inbound the ball what a horrible move!!! I cant believe he still has a job after last night.

Class guy, it is not about who you are but how you act…so someone can be the greatest athlete on the planet but at the same time also be a world-class ass. The same can be said for teams. Im saying that just because the playground bully can take your lunch money doesnt make his actions right. So what does it matter that LVLs team is better than COthis is not the issue.

And my kid isn’t a great player in part because he spent his youth playing travel baseball and his basketball consisted of 10 NJB games a year. On the bright side, he has a 4.2 GPA…so in the big picture of life he’s got a very good shot at being one of the winners. Heres something for you to think aboutif you still dream that your kid is going to the NBA you might want to reconsider after the Price beat downbecause thats what future NBA players look like.

Yeah so they pressed for about five minutes – wow big deal. Should they score twenty points and then stand in the a four corner offense, knowing the game is won?? Seriously what do you want it is basketball – LVL played the game!

Parents at LVL are well aware of how the other side of a blow-out feels, are you at all acquainted with the LVL football program this year? And from that experience I can tell you first hand – the kids do not really care, they are a whole lot smarter and a whole lot less sensitive than the adults, they are actually able to let things go – maybe a lesson you can learn from your 4.2 kid. In fact the only time the LVL football players were upset was when Maranatha took a knee on an extra point with a minute left and the score differential of sixty plus points – kick the ball – play the game!!! Kids only get embarrassed when their ineptitude is shoved in their face – which is normally only done by adults. Kids want to play and know that sometimes they will be outmatched. That is life, and a good lesson in life and straightforward the football team at LVL got as much, or more, out of their season this year as any kid at the school you back. Winning is not the end all and be all in HS/youth Sports. So if you are looking for apologies you are barking up the wrong tree. Yeah they pressed for a few minutes – big deal! I have talked to Upland Christian kids lately (have you??) they don’t care, so you are carrying a grudge that none of the involved participants care about!!!

It will be particularly sad if their baseball team is as weak as the rest of their teams (except Girls VB which won CIF this year-congrats!!!) – since two years ago they were playing in the CIF Championship! I was told that Western and Upland merged but in doing my own research a few minutes ago I can see that this was not the case…so I stand corrected. And, I also revise my thoughts on Upland continuing to play in the Arrowhead…they should be told to leave that is, unless they can show that they have recruited an AAU team to come to their school.

While I agree with the respect your opponent until proven otherwise it is apparent that this doesn’t apply to the Jan 26th game unless your coach and everyone else at LVL suffers from amnesia…did you forgot that you beat this team on Jan 11th by 63 points? So you already knew that Upland was vastly inferior but still pressed and trapped them quickly into embarrassment.

I dont have anything to do with COs schedule so youre barking up the wrong tree in respect to playing CO. If you are serious, you need to call their AD or their coaches. I recall Aaron putting out the same suggestion to you folks about playing Bonitajust wondering, did your coach ever make any calls?

Heres what concerns meI am one of the millions of folks that are members of the Lutheran faith so whether you believe it or not, the manner in which LVLs team conducts themselves represents meso please do it with the class and compassion that is indicative of a Christian School that bears the name of my faith…is that too much to ask?

Now finish up league in a manner that makes us proud, not ashamed, and then go out and win a CIF Title for our neck of the woods.

You are ignoring the FACT that LVL beat Upland by approximately the same margin that EVERY other team in league beat Upland. While obviously they could do much worse to the team. And as I have mentioned more than once, LVL would love out of the league for basketball – do us a favor call CIF and urge them to allow that change!

Unless you have documented evidence through your personal attendance or a reliable personal source that coaches/players have been disrespectful or classless to their opponents – taking an online account written by a teenager (and of course teenagers never want to make something a little showier!!!!) is highly inappropriate. The person who stated that it was written by the coach was incorrect and that is obvious by the manner in which it was written.

LVL’s Coach has called EVERY coach and AD in the area to schedule games/play in tournaments and for whatever reason we are blacklisted. My guess is that it is the obvious it is a no win for Bonita or Damien or even Charter Oak to play LVL, you win it is the big school beating a school of 140 kids, you lose and wow reality sets in!!!

BTW: For the record I do not have a son on the team, but I do know many of the young men and to a person they are class acts!!! My son does however attend the school, so I do have a personal affinity.

Also your AAU remark is out of line and a smartass comment (sad – just when I thought we might be reaching an adult level) since Upland cannot compete with ANY of the Arrowhead teams.

Also about YOUR scheduling, you folks scheduled a home and home versus a nonleague opponent which is an Arrowhead caliber team (West Covina) which is just sad (on many levels)!

And your last post makes me realize “grudge” was well used – but you (we) misunderstood the use. Your grudge is against the coach who you feel has embarrassed your faith – well this is basketball – yes we “represent” a “faith” but it is sport and if you are going to be angry with a man, maybe you should take the time to call him and have a cup of coffee. Final, final note – shame is a self-choice! NO ONE at LVL is ashamed of their basketball program – if you choose to accept shame on yourself because of a program of which you have no ties and no knowledge that is TRULY sad!!!

I’d disagree with you that the two are separated – but are rather one and the same. If you can’t compete in a sport with the same convictions which your faith represents – your faith is not so deep in the first place. They should be one and the same.
I think it was someone who came on a LVL Announcer (an adult?) a while back that posted about how awesome your team was in a most embarrassing exaggeration. My guess take is everyone young and old has been a little full of themselves.
Maybe Price humbled them a bit. It was certainly needed.

I would respectfully submit that faith is intertwined with everything, but and this is tough to put in words in print – the fact that you can and do go out destroy and quite possibly demoralize an opponent does not demonstrate a weakness in faith. My take on Price (and as stated I do not represent the team).

1) Bad game – LVL played with Bishop Gorman until the last minute and Bishop Gorman played with Mater Dei until the last minute – so the potential is there.

2) The coach scheduled the game with the realiztion that a a loss was possible/probable. Price is where LVL wants to be, multi CIF titles, multi state titles. Been doing it since CO’s kid was playing T-ball (or darn close). Also keep in mind Price, and a number of the other teams that have beat LVL and are top-ranked are senior dominated teams. LVL does not have a senior on the floor (only one on the roster is out injured). LVL has a Soph and freshman being pursued by every college that a BB player dreams of being recruited by, their path will be rocky – but the key is to learn from these type of losses.

To state that anyone is full of themselves is a huge assumption since I am guessing you have never met these kids!

It’s quite pathetic how many of you embrace a program that continuously bends on recruiting players. Private or public, there should be standards put into place. Schools need to have a sense of pride and integrity. Look at schools like Upland, Claremont, San Dimas, Bonita, the list goes on…. They’ve all shared their ups and downs but they consistently are bent on doing the best they can with what they have. Those schools strive for academic success for their student-athletes; they are not bent on bringing in kids from god knows where just to build a ‘powerhouse’. It’s HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL people. From Kleckner over at Etiwanda to the oft-recruiting by private schools; the integrity of high school basketball is being tarnished season by season. My point of this ‘rant,’ if that is what you want to call it, is to explain to you EXACTLY why schools like LVL are blacklisted. Athletic integrity does not consist of funneling money over from the likes of Cameron Murray and Co. It’s just become such a shady system.. but I guess that is the reality we live in. Athletic integrity. That’s all I have to say.
