    3) Charter Oak
    4) Bishop Amat
    5) Los Altos
    6) Northview

  • LANCER 4 LIFE

Do you mean bunting led by McClanahan. South Hills should be pre season number one, defending champs with a better team than last year.

  • Poll Cat

    Beisbol,

I watched San Dimas play Damien over the weekend and I believe SD is in for a long season. Here is my take.

    #5 NV

    #10 San Dimas

  • Clueless

Poll cat: YOu might be right that the Saints are in for a long season. But get Gladstone out of your top 10. You just embarrass yourself.

  • just sayin’

SGV PRIDE – but Citrus has two pitchers that should have been be pitching before Zuniga! LMFAO!

  • SGV PRIDE

I only seen the kid pitch a couple times but didn’t he go 10-1 last year and make 1st team all-state. It appears he did well this weekend, so who is really the one laughing their ass off. I’m in favor of all the SGV kids doing well so should you.

  • Play the best????????

Amat what division are you in this year. I thought you go to Amat to play the best? What does that only apply to the football program. I am real comfused please explain.

  • BAHS

Amat didn’t request to go down in Divisions, they didn’t petition to go to a lower level, they had no say so in the matter. Aside from last year, they have been kickin butt and taking names. Last year was a good year too they just came up short to a good SD team. Amat will be back in the saddle this year, just wait and see. As a matter of fact, I think they are going to be pretty good for a few years to come.

  • Beisbol Fanatico

South Hills is number 1 to be the champ you have to beat the champ. As a matter of fact everyone in D3 needs to be placed infront of San Dimas and Bishop Amat since they play in a higher division according to the Amat fans. RIGHT?

  • Just Say’n 2

    just sayin’,

Looks like you must be DADDY, does it hurt that bad that you have to try and bad mouth other kid(s). You know if it is hurting that bad maybe, just maybe you should take it up with the Dads you think are posting that Citrus has good freshmen pitching…WHAT DO YA THINK.

BTW, if I remember correctly noone said anything about Amat’s starting pitching last year, just that it seems funny that Nieto and Beck wouldn’t let some others pitch. Seems as though you may have a guilty conscience.

Oh, and from what I remember the only time anyone really see’s you is when Nieto bends over, and that is to say the bottom of your shoes show.

  • YOU ARE CORRECT

    Biesbol,
You are correct so SH is number 1 in baseball since you are in the highest division of all the valley teams. So the other side of the coin is since Amat is in the top division in football of all the valley teams they are number 1 in football . Thanks for making it clear to us . Right SH.

  • HK, make a list of the players to watch

I gotta say every time I see a Baseball Thread I get a big smile on my face “knowing” Ken is going to go yard with his love of baseball !

Hope Mr. Huth continues to take one day at a time and continues to ignore drive by artists that bring nothing of value to the blog.

KH any chance I can get an invite to see you manage or practice with the boys. Nothing is more enjoyable than seeing people who have true passion doing what they love.

Keep up the good work and best of luck with your boy.

  • Joe Amat

I’ve said it before, in defense of anybody that doesn’t like their league/division – You have NO choice where the CIF powers that be place you in league or division. You can fight the move a little (as it has been documented that Amat always does) but the unique difference is Amat fights the moves *down* where most in the Fish Bowl fight moves UP. It doesn’t always work – ask Glendora, South Hills, Charter Oak, and Bonita – all who have made moves the last couple cycles. Sometimes it does… Damien miraculously stays down (after threats of law suits) and Amat and their cohorts have been successful in staying at the top of the football divisions.

If you end up in a league/division that may be below where you feel you belong (Like Amat baseball and Division 7 football) then do something about it prior to league. Schools have a choice to balance their schedule. Amat ended up in the Camino Del Rey Association after the Orange County Nepotism Act of 2005 and , along with Loyola, was sent packing from the OC League… after winning the League Title our last year with Mater Dei, Servite, OLu, etc. So instead, Amat has balanced the CDRA schedule with a killer preseason including:

    Newport Elks Tourney (Palm Desert, Santiago, Mater Dei and/or a host of THE best ranked teams like Capo Valley and their FOUR D1 pitchers and any of the following Centennial-Corona,Arlington,Buena Park,Cerritos Beckman,,Calvary Chapel – Downey,Costa Mesa,Brea,Corona,Calvary Chapel – SA,Garden Grove,Carter, Esperanza, Capistrano Valley Christian,La Quinta/Westminster,Corona del Mar,Foothill,Century,Laguna Beach, Fullerton,Hemet, Compton,Nogales, Irvine,Huntington Beach,Estancia,,La Habra ,JSerra,, Godinez,Santa Ana,La Serna, Mater Dei,Los Amigos, Savanna, Laguna Hills,Mission Viejo, Magnolia, Schurr, MLKing,St Paul,Rancho Alamitos, Segrestrom,Newport Harbor,Orange Lutheran,Saddleback,Sunny Hills,Northwood,Palm Desert,Sage Hill,Tustin, Oceanview,Paramount,Santa Ana Valley,Western,Pacifica,Santiago/Corona Santiago GG Westminster,Patriot,Tesoro,Valley Christian,San Juan Hills,Warren, NortaVista, Whittier Christian, Troy,Valencia/Placentia

National Classic (South Hills & Amat take on the best of the best including the top team in California – Edison or El Dorado, Esperanza,The Pendleton School, FL,Mater Dei, Notre Dame Prep, Salpointe Catholic, Crespi,West Ranch,Palm Desert, Edison,,Orange Lutheran, ,Cottonwood, UT,Peninsula, Marin Catholic,

Redondo Tourney (teams like Simi Valley, Arlington, Lakewood, LB Wilson, Santa Monica, El Segundo, Millikan, Patriot, Downey, Palos Verdes, Mira Costa, Loyola, etc)

Then top that off with #17 in the Nation Chatsworth (at USC)

Yeah – I’d say that gives a chance for the kids to “play against the best”. You?

  • Poll Cat

Hey SGV Pride, nice. DO you know anything bout Andrew Mistone, former Amat player, isn’t he at UCR? Does he get any PT.

  • Play the best????????

    BAHS,

Making a comment on this blog doesn’t make it the truth, a good example of that is your comment. Yes Bishop Amat did have something to say when they went down, a matter of fact this blog was full of comments from Bishop Amat bloggers blasting the head coach.

Come out and play with the big boys ………

  • Beisbol Fanatico

    YOU ARE CORRECT,

South Hills is # 1 in baseball and Charter Oak and San Dimas are 1 and 2 in football. Just like the sgvsbestjackass says you are a participant in your football division not a competitor like CO an Dimas.

  • Local fan!

Not sure about the TOP team in the SGV, but I guess considering that AMAT, & SOUTH HILLS have Plenty of return players they have to be 1-2 either way. I bet neither team really cares about that stuff they just want to get on the field.
Great stuff Joe AMAT! I like that the good teams in baseball actually play one another.
Noting like AMAT opening against Corona Santaigo, and their FIVE D1 signees, THEN the Lancers get Mater Dei, the NEXT day, as well as playing in the classic, as does SHHS! WOW really going to be exciting in April, and THEN AMAT & S.H get together @ MSAC for a game under the lights. Consider that a tuneup for CIF!
I say BOTH are ranked in the TIMES TOP 20, with AMAT in TOP 5-6, and SH around # 17. They should BOTH be in the FINAL STATE poll as well. Will be fun to watch Edison as well, especially with the Lopes brothers coming from Valencia. Those two may just be the BEST DP combo in the nation.

As good as FLA is, I don’t think the SO CAL teams are a pushover, and we won’t take a backseat to nobody!

GOOD LUCK TO EVERY TEAM this year, and keep your eyes on the prize!

  • OK NOW

    Beisbol,
Since you are a follower of sgvsbestjackazz and cling to his philosophy . Then by his reasoning SH is also nothing but a participant in their division which is what number 5-6-7. Because evidently if you can’t even beat DR ( twice ) well that about sums up SH’s whole football program. Good luck on the diamond and see you at the Classic. We will be the ones wearing Blue and Gold . You know the school SH wants nothing to do with on the football field.

    Poll-

Andrew Mistone is at UCR. He red shirted last yr and as far as I know, is starting this yr.

  • Amat Dad 07

I like keeping up on all of our former Lancers. A few of them made the news for their respective teams this weekend.

    From Columbia’s website:
NEW YORK Catcher Dean Forthun and outfielder Jason Banos will captain the 2010 Columbia Baseball team, which begins its season in three weeks, on Friday, March 5 at UNLV.

A two-time All-Ivy League honoree, Forthun has been an ironman behind the plate during his career with the Lions. Over his first three seasons, the California native has started 120 games. He has thrown out 37 percent of runners attempting to steal and last season, Forthun batted .298 and led the team in doubles.

“Dean is our vocal leader as well as a leader by example,” head coach Brett Boretti said of the four-year starter. “He gives 100 percent every day whether it’s on the field or in the weight room and is a motivator for the other players on our team.”

Last season, Forthun started 41 of the 42 games he played. He led the team in walks, batted just a shade under .300 in Ivy League play with 16 RBI and carried a .435 on-base percentage.

“Dean is one of the best catch and throw catchers in the Northeast. His ability to control the running game is outstanding,” Boretti added. “He’s a hard-nosed competitor and a clutch performer who wants to be in the key situation every game and at-bat.”

    From UC Riverside’s website
UCR started to climb back into the game with a two-out rally in the bottom of the third. Tony Nix singled to left and Joey Gonzales was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second for Michael Hur. Hur laced a single to left to knock in one run and Ryan Goetz drilled a shot to first that was too tough for the Cougars Chase Frampton to handle driving in the second Highlanders run of the game.

    From UC Irvine’s website
IRVINE, Calif. — All-American Daniel Bibona struck out 10 batters to lead the seventh-ranked Anteaters to a 5-1 win over Loyola Marymount Friday at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark.

Ronnie Shaeffer drew a four-pitch walk and catcher Francis Larson also came away with a full-count walk to push UCI’s first run across the plate. Jeff Cusick and Jordan Fox delivered back-to-back doubles to combine for three runs and Tommy Reyes’ RBI groundout capped the inning for UCI.

Fox led UCI hitting 3 for 4 with an RBI while Cusick added two runs batted in on 1 for 4 hitting.

    From LMU website
Junior Chris Eusebio dealt the final two innings on the hill for LMU, allowing a pair of runs (one earned) on two hits and striking out two.

    From the UNLV website
UNLV right-hander Brady Zuniga made a strong debut out of the bullpen, striking out seven batters, giving up one hit and not allowing a run in two appearances and 2.2 innings of work …

    Good Job Lancers

  • u on crack?

    Mistone is NOT starting….

He may in the years that follow, as another Lancer, Ryan Goetz graduates this year.

  • i give respect when respect is do….

Someone said to be the best you have to beat the best…and northview did justthat a week ago beating south hills 1-3 ;they had all their big playmakers and even doyle behind plate and ibiara on the bump. i didnt like the outcome but i give to northview, they should be ranked over charter oak, so top 5 at, top 6th at the least. i still would like to see how they do in the glendora tournament with the first game being agaist bonita!

  • BAHS

play the best????? C’mon dude, do you really think I was talking about the Amat Bloggers having nothing to say? Maybe I was talking about the school, coach and team not having a voice in where CIF placed them? More likely right? You know the Family will always have something to say when our team is attacked. Let me be clear, the school, coach and team had absolutely no say when they were dropped down surely even you know this, right?

  • top 4

Northview deseerves top four for that!? they are gonna be overlooked all yr. but that should fuel their fire!

  • Northview deserves

top four for that one…they’ll be overlooked a lot this yr, but that’ll fuel their fire!

  • ESPN Cal HI Rankings

    Preseason State Baseball Top 20
    February 23, 2010 2:33 AM
With addition of Lopes, Huntington Beach Edison becomes a stronger choice to begin 2010 season in the No. 1 position. Four San Diego teams are among the top 15 while Elk Grove and Valley Christian headline teams from NorCal. Go inside for writeups on all 20 teams plus 12 more on the bubble.

    17. South Hills (Covina, Calif.) 23-8
For the fifth time in eight tries, the Huskies captured a section championship last season as they defeated Beckman of Irvine in the CIFSS Division III finals for the first title under head coach Kevin Smith. The Huskies do lose Division III player of the year, pitcher Derek Klena, but it was a team dominated otherwise by underclassmen. All-CIFSS picks Cody Doyle and Christian Ibarra along with State Freshman of the Year Ty France headline the list of returnees.

    19. Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.) 26-6
An 11-game winning streak came to an abrupt end for the Lancers last year when they lost in the CIFSS Division IV semifinals in walk-off fashion after earlier in the season finishing undefeated in Del Rey League play. Most teams would be worrying what the pitching would look like after losing a 10-game winner, but the Lancers have to feel pretty good as they will still have senior left-hander Paul Paez, who also won 10 games. He will team up with senior catcher Jerry McClanahan, who led the team with 38 runs batted in and seven home runs.

    Notable for local teams:
    #1 Edison
    #3 Mater Dei
    #7 Crespi
    #9 Redlands East Valley
    #11 Yucaipa
    #12 Chatsworth
    #14 JSerra
    #16 Capo Valley

On the bubble: Orange Lutheran, Notre Dame, Royal, Santiago(Corona)

  • Don

So, we were talking about what?

Oh yeah, Top Ten lists, my favorite. The problem with actually selecting the teams you think are GOOD is that nobody has played yet. I mean, nobody has played for reals. Its probably better to rate schools for their fields or snack bars or parking lots or something other than who would beat whom because the season hasnt even begun yet.

BUT, since we are just talking right now: Amat, South Hills, and Glendora will all be a cut above the rest; I said it two months ago and it still stands. Which one is best? Im not smart enough to say but I suspect the team with the best one – two punch on the mound will go the farthest. They will also be the clear targets of everyone in their respective leagues

So many Miramonte questions, both C O and Bonita lost a ton of talent although I think the Chargers actually bring back more kids who have played Varsity games than do the Bearcats. Baltierra can be a stud for Wilson but what else do they have? Los Altos has a lot of young guys who played last year but kind of slid late in the season. D Ranch will be young too, especially the Pitching but ya gotta like Verplanke in that type situation.

Speaking of young, check out the diapers on the Valle Vista. ;{) Lots more questions there.

Murphy lost, what? Twelve to graduation, and San Dimas graduated 13. I think that Baldwin Park got off easy with only six or seven moving on. Covina only graduated two or three and may be the dark horse of the league.

Who else? Damien lost a bunch of starters and pitching but returns some key Juniors from last year and the Soph Pitcher ought to be even better this season. Bad news is they not only have a good, young Chino team in the Sierra but pretty good competition from Diamond Bar and Chino Hills too. Oh yeah, and Glendora of course. Look for folks to change those Pride of the Foothills license frames to Pitching In the Foothills.

  • Same old Joe

    Joe Amat

Does the book really mean anything unless you win CIF? Your league play really doesnt prep you for CIF. Look how SD handled you?

All those pre-season games don’t mean squat expect for guys like you trying to boost the ego.

    Win then talk!

  • baseballguy

northview? really? a team with 5 freshmen!!! wow nice rankings.

  • Don’t bag on Joe

When I look around in college baseball I see more players from Amat on Division 1 rosters than any other school in the SGV. At Amat not only do we prepare our athletes in sports but also the classrooms. I can count many other players from the SGV that were talented on the field but didnt handle their business in the classroom

  • bottom feeders

Same old – are you saying that the 6 games against Ganesha and Pomona are preparing San Dimas for CIF? I think the bottom two teams in Amat’s league kick the crap outta the bottom two teams in the Valle Vista. St Paul proved a year ago they can beat Northview and La Salle or Montgomery – take your pick – beats Covina. So that leaves 3 games for SD vs Baldwin Park. Amat has 1 fewer team in their league – so they replaced that with South Hills and Chatsworth.. So whose non tournament games are tougher again? And I’d say 4 championships this decade constitutes “winning something”

  • Not a big GHS

BUT you would have to be crazy to take them lightly. Great pitching staff and a lot of quality players moving on to play at the next level.
The GHS tourny will tell a lot and will be a real indication of whether or not they can live up to their potiential.
Expect them to win the tourny and if NOT this will be a good indication that Henely and company will under acheive once again.
I am betting on GHS to come thru on this one.

  • Try Keepin Up

I have to agree with the Joe non basher. Most schools have studs who pepper out after high school because of a myriad of factors while Bishop Amat has players who move on in larger numbers in more sports. Tough to argue that anyone comes close except Diamond Ranch who gets a bad rap as being ghetto but continues to send players, both girls and boys, to top flight schools. I know this isn’t a competition but it’s stupid to say otherwise.

  • Young?

Northview with 5freshman? their squad is all juniors and seniors…get ur facts right guy. and they were good enough to beat south hills so what does that say about them?

  • SGV Fan

there is alot of great players playing D1 ball in college from the SGV. Dont leave out the starting true freshmen for LMU joel Licon from DR. DR gets no respect!

  • playhardr

lets take a try at this,

#1 South Hills, to much returning and plus Shirley.
#2 Glendora , If they do not do it this year then whos to fault
#3 Amat, very very good impact players
#4 Northview, decent pitching and solid D, good coach
#5 Bonita, who do they have that won the Lidle tourney, a good coach
#6 Diamond Bar, lots of returners, and 2 transfers, (one P from mater dei)
#7 CO, solid starting pitching for league not tournys
#8 Damien, depends on guess what, pitching
#9 Los Altos, just because did well in playoffs
#10 Diamond Ranch, should hit, pitching lets see, new coach

  • Bad info.

#6 Diamond Bar, lots of returners, and 2 transfers, (one P from mater dei)

Hey Wayne, who are the transfers? look at the roster on Max Prep.

    hk
still going and its getting better 1 at a time.

i love it,just like our old coach MR.P.he did it for 50 years ,so i still have 21years left.
my h.s. list would only be kids ive seen.tis easy on paper.the top 18 kids are from amat. next 10 from s.h. then the rest of us pubic boys will fit in some where.
    pitchers ive seen.glendora
three really good ones and /c-closers no joke.
nv saw them in summer briefly, i kinda remember a bigger kid on the mound.
sh.we smoked then in cory tny.but remember they had 15 kids playing football.so we were told.there pitching ave. no body took my eye.
sd co ,its been over a year cant say.
dr. derek really basball kid.loves to compete.the qb has to pick up game.they have a good team.
arc.have two good pitchers, teams really tiny, small ball.nv vs arc. i think i will stay home.or maybe go see willie in az. on some bunting tips.
whos left bonita.big jr.lefty 6-6 plus wants the ball.would love to see the main starter pitch every game, opens up a key spot.but we all know that wont happen.we need to make the routine plays, which am not seeing at all.whos the sleeper.third unit ss. that kid can really pitch.and he makes all the plays, the more i watch him the better i like him,i was wrong with him, theres plently of work for him ,hes young.with tools. god bless you . we send a kid down to the jv,who would be a starter on any team in our league, hands down. he will be back up, its good he can go down and help bring the jv level higher,he will or can be a all leaguer next year.dame rain we were going to play glendora and cv today in a three way scrimmage at glendale ,so we played alta loma last night good game 2-1 we won.thats 7-0 this year, after sweeping cory try. and arc. alta loma .water under bridge.we open up next friday at 330 in the big glendora classic.we will be bringing last year trouphy back with honors my friends.come take it, if you can.

  • jcaz

    Same old Joe

You obviously were not at that game last year where Amat lost it in the final frame.

SD, as any good team would do, took advantage of a number of miscues that the Lancers made in that final inning, but to suggest that SD somehow handled the Lancers in that game is a stretch to say the lest.

Next time, if you want to take a shot at someone, at least sound like you know what your talking about.

BTW, winning CIF two out of the last three years and being ranked in the top 25 in the state this year isn’t such a bad thing now is it ?

  • kh

    amat baseball.
cif, they beat t.c.three years ago, they beat s.m.two years ago.
lost in glendora to cl.mt.pre season classic,
knocked out of cif by s.d last year.
you tell me how powerfull they are.
this year opt. to o.c. pre-season ,no glendora.
and you rank them on top.
i know if it was me,
would love to stay home and kick all the locals butts in the glendora classic.
why wont they show up in the cory classic.
sounds like there skipping all the local games.
a wonder if there in the northveiw games.
come on amat bring it on.
please let us little school see some of that div.1 pitching.how will are are little kids,in pubic schools, ever get better playing each other,we need the highly recruited stud players bless by fred himself.you can run but,you cant hide, soomer or later some little school will knock you out again,go amat
