Sierra Vista girls soccer lose 5-0 in Division II state first-round at San Diego Coronado

Not a bad result considering the San Diego Coronado team was ranked fifth in the state and 12th in the nation on ESPN’s Fab 50 Poll. “They were a way superior team,” Sierra Vista coach Steve Jimenez said. “Their size and the way they controlled the ball was amazing. They were by far the best team we played all season.

    to sgv soccer fan:

for your information, the game of sv was at 1-0 all of first half and most of second. they were at 2-0 until 6 minutes left, when they had to take out the goalkeeper for hitting her head on the pole. the sierra vista girls definitely put up a fight. know your facts!

SGV Soccer Fan, it sure doesn’t sound like you are a San Gabriel Valley Fan.

SGV Resident is correct. First of all you were not there. It was not until almost the end of the first half when Coronado scored. Then with about 10 minutes or so left of the second half the SV goalie, Alyssa dove for the ball. She saw the pole coming towards her so she opened up her arms to try to stop herself from hitting the pole. That is when the ball went in (now 2-0). She banged her head on the pole. She was down for a good 10 minutes. She was finally able to stand up and leave the field. With about 10 minutes left it was 2-0. But with our goalie gone, our replacement (who pretty much never did play much as goalie all year) couldnt stop the balls from going in. That is when they scored 3 more goals.

Yes we lost. But the Lady Dons left the field with their heads held up high. If we would of had Chata there, could it have ended differently, maybe. If we had Alyssa as our goalie the whole time would it have ended at 2-0, probably. Not excuses just what if’s. But really it doesnt matter. I am so proud of these young ladies. So did they deserve to be there? You bet! They put up quite a fight. All I know is that the other coach was not very happy for most of the game. Because you know SV is a D7 team and they should have made so many more goals the first half.

Yes there were some crying at the end of the game. But it was not because they lost. This was the last game they will play together as a team. With 17 of our seniors leaving this year, and only 5 Varsity girls returning next year, they will have to rebuild. Will they win league or CIF next year? I don’t know.

But one thing is for certain, no one will forget what the Sierra Vista Lady Dons accomplished this year. And the Coronado team and coach will not soon forget them either.

I am not really in the mood to hear many of you bash these young ladies. Because I AM so proud of them, and I dont want to end our season reading bad talk about them. Nor do I want to hear how BA or LA would have won. Who knows, and really, who cares. The season is over for the San Gabriel Valley in soccer. Thank you for those who supported Sierra Vista from Day 1, or even those who cheered for them once you realized how special these girls are. For the rest of you, I dont really care.

It was fun arguing with many of you. For those who know me, know that I LOVE to argue. You know what they say. There is no such thing as bad publicity. And I atleast kept the name Sierra Vista alive in this blog with so many of you set against them.

Until next season, unless Fred covers Track.

    For the last time…

GO LADY DONS! NO EXCUSES! NO REGRETS! WHATEVER IT TAKES!

    FEAR NO ONE!

    CONGRATS TO THE LADY DONS.
LISTEN, NO MATTER WHAT ANYWAY ON THIS BLOG SAYS, YOU LADIES ARE C.I.F. CHAMPIONS. STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WOULDVE BEEN GREAT, BUT NONTHELESS YOU LADIES ARE C.I.F CHAMPS. HOW MANY OTHER CITY, SCHOOLS CAN SAY THAT? NOT MANY. FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES THAT WILL STAY WITH U, NOONE CAN TAKE IT AWAY. BA, LA ALWAYS WILL HAVE THE “WHAT IF” STORY. YOU WILL HAVE THE “WE DID” STORY. DIV 1,2 OR 7 IT DOESNT MATTER. WAY TO REPRESENT THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK AND UR SCHOOL WITH PRIDE AND RESPECT. I WAS AT THE GAME, AND HONESTLY THEY WERE A MUCH BETTER TEAM, BUT U GUYS PLAYED THE WAY U PLAY AND U SHOULD BE PROUD. WE DONT HAVE THE AMMENITIES, RESOURCES, AND FRANKLY ALL THE MONEY TO BE PART OF CLUB TEAMS, AND HAVE THAT TRAINING THEY DO, SO GOOD FOR THEM FOR BEING IN THAT POSITION. U LADIES DID IT WITH PRIDE, PASSION, LOVE OF THE GAME, AND THE SKILL U LADIES HAVE. REMEMBER, C.I.F. CHAMPS FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES…. BE PROUD LADY DONS

    GO BRAVES !!!!

When are the All-Area Soccer Team coming out?

You should post a separate thread to get folk’s opinion on the team, POY and COY! That would be a fun discussion!

Good luck brother! I don’t envy the tough choices you have to make!
