Bishop Amat’s 2010 Football Schedule; Wake me up when they get to the Serra

Okay, maybe the headline’s a little harsh, but after the Orange Lutheran and St. Bonny’s games the past couple years, you start to get use to those matchups and expectations. Having said that, I understand how difficult it was to fill their nonleague schedule. In past years this certainly wouldn’t help their strength of schedule argument when it comes to Pac-5 at large berths, but there are no more Pac-5 at large berths, so it doesn’t matter. The great thing about the new five-team Serra is that three spots are guaranteed, and by the time they get to league and playoffs, the heavyweights are there waiting anyway. So, guess we just have to be patient, see if they can start 6-0 and watch how they do it, how convincing they do it, and if there’s enough swagger to carry over to the Serra. Hey, it’s Bishop Amat, it’s fun every time they show up regardless of who’s on the other side.

First, it is unfortunate that CIF broke all logic and precedent by moving St Bonnies into the Maramonte League, creating a TEN team league and giving schools only ONE non-league game. It would have been fun to travel and give Bonnies a chance to avenge last years loss. That might have woken Freddie up a bit and prevented him from “yawning”.

Fortunately, it says something about the direction of the program that some might say this is a boring schedule – when those same people would be saying it would be a big stretch for any other valley school and applauding them for challenging themselves. Again… perspective.

Here’s some info and my take on each non league game

    Sept. 3 vs. Garfield @ELAC
Historic program. Great venue. Good crowd. Fearless squad. Smart Week Zero opener
    Sept. 10 at Dominguez
CIF Semifinalist. Respected outside the Fish-Bowl. Athletic Moore League-ish team.
    Sept. 17 Muir
Reviving an important rivalry. Lost to All-World,2-time CIF Juggernauts Charter Oak by a point on last play of the game. No one was yawning then. And they’re better this year
    Sept. 24 Damien
Local Catholic matchup. Amat’s closest competition to the east. Should happen every year regardless.
    Oct. 1 at Cathedral
Another Catholic matchup to our West. CIF Finalists.11-2. Lost to Oaks Christian in Finals. In Amat’s league in other sports – making this another natural
    Oct. 8 Venice
A Top City power on an annual basis. 10-2 last year and will play anyone. Get’s Amat back to a traditional City matchup like the old Carson contests in the past.

And then you have league play in the 3rd toughest league in the NATION (that only got stronger w/addition of CIF Finalist Alemany) last year to defend the 2009 SERRA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP.
    Oct. 15 Crespi
Oct. 22 vs. Loyola at LA Valley College
    Oct. 29 Notre Dame
    Nov. 5 BYE
    Nov. 12 at Alemany

In a perfect world we’d find a way to add St Paul to the mix – another one that should happen annually. But they’re not up to it now. Maybe soon.

  • AMAT 73

    Joe ,
First off I see you got the cap back . You remind my of an old Carly Simon song . ” Nobody Does It Better.” Nice post Joe, as another Joe used to say ” just the facts” .

  • footballfan

Don`t be to disappointed with the schedule. It`s only temporary. To play these teams now it will only help recruiting. By beating these teams Amat will get some these teams better athletes or even better their best incoming freshmen in the next few years and than expect Amat to play all of the big boys of high school footall,.ie.. Servite, De la Salle, an out of state team, etc.. People Steve Hagerty and staff know what they our doing. Just watch out in the next few years.

    GOOD LUCK AMAT 2010

  • amnot

amat does not recruit!!!!!!!!!!!and they only schedule the best teams year in and year out. Not the “All-World,2-time CIF Juggernauts Charter Oak”

  • A DYING BREED

Slowly but surely the foul bloodline of the haters is dying off . Still a few of the inbred hanging on like amnot and his cousin, brother, uncle, who really knows what the relation is with their type, werd up. Give yourself a break and give it up now . You are making yourself to be a bigger azz than anyone ever thought you could be by carrying on with personal vendetta against Amat and down grading CO by speaking for them .

  • SGVsBest

Carly Simon? Who?…How old are these Amat Honks?
    .
You can turn off the lights in October. No way these guys make the playoffs this year!
    .

  • just sayin’

amnot – sense the sarcasm? How quickly you forget. Check these

then Big Lou said, “No Mas!”

  • amnot

A DYING BREED- scroll down a little and see who made that comment about CO. And no I won’t go away! haters? haha. Call it whatever you want azzzy boy.

  • FOR YOUR EYES ONLY

    sgvsbest,
Since you poked your head in here let me ask you this question on one of your teams . What is your take on Coach Lou’s statement of “IF” you make the playoffs you get to travel 2 hours to get your butt kicked and go home. Come on give us your take . Be a contributor for once instead of just being a hater.

  • Realist

C’mon guys give Lou a break, He’s doing a Lou Holtz, we don’t know if we can play with them, They’re a great team I just hope we stay close, Just being in a big time game like this is amazing to our guys….RECOGNIZE it when you see it. Big Lou is lulling them to sleep! The SGV is going to jump on those buses and take the ride out to the I.E. where those coaches and teams are going to be thinking just like you doomsday bloggers are and lo and behold the Chargers and Huskies come out smackin people around. Overlook the new guy who APPEARS to be just happy to be there. The SGV will not go down lightly fellas!

  • just sayin’

amnot -you obviously “amnot ver smart” or haven’t read much of his stuff beyond the 1st paragraph (you’re probably one of those) if you couldn’t tell JA was being a bit sarcastic with that comment. My guess is it’s the 1st choice.

  • C.O. You Know!

    Realist,

Your are not suppose to tell others in the Valley Charter Oak’s secrets. Many of his former players have found these comments to be extremely entertaining the last 24 hours.

Ok, if you want to know the truth understand Big Lou was also our Psychology teacher besides our football coach (literally he taught AP Psychology on campus forever) so when the rest of you are upset by his quotes unfortunately unless you’ve played for him you don’t get what he’s trying to say.

He’s very calculating in what he says and does and not unless you truly have been around the man do you appreciate his generation of coaching. His tactics and ploys always not only got in the opponents head but ours too and for that I would do anything for the old man because he always brought out the best and worst in everyone.

So kick back and enjoy the ride because Charter Oak may get beat at first but once they figure out the lay of the land I guarantee you they will make some noise. Think about it. Big Lou already has rattled your cage and is probably someplace LHAO!

  • RIDDLE ME THIS BATMAN

    realist,
Why is it that when Hags made his infamous statement a while back on the PAC-5 everyone was on it as a show of lack of confidence and a few other choice thoughts. Now Lou comes out with something even worse and you want to play it off as head games . Yea right .Kind of a double standard . One for Amat and one for the rest of the SGV. But it’s ok Amat is used to being held to a higher standard then rest anyway. Speaking of psychology, could Lou have had a freudian slip.
    CO u know,
I’d like to know what he got in your heads when you guys played Amat a few years back. By the outcome I think he got the worst out of you and the best out of Amat that time.

  • Realist

Those in the know, know what Hagerty was doing. He is the Master at Lou Holtzing. The ones who were trying to pile on where the Blog Nations finest. I won’t even mention their names just like I don’t read their posts.

  • Dennis Smith

Why is B. Amat playing Garfield! They have no team to speak of. I suspect they just want to get noticed;because no one really cares.Just like that coach from Garfield set up an all San Gabriel Valley Football Team . He not only coached one team, but made sure his quarter played most of the game.Or, perhaps some proud Amat parents at the coming September game can relish,”I went to Garfield!” You think I’m kidding!Every time I attend an Amat game, I hear around me, I went to Garfield or I went to Roosevelt!” I say, WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL! Get a life!

  • SGVsBest

    Para Mis Ojos -
My take is that Big Lou Doesn’t know if he can win at that (inland Div) level, or when he can get to the top…
    .
    Sounds familiar Amat Honk?
    .
CO SH Damien all have a chance in the Sierra. What can you say about about Amat in October?
    .
    Nada!!!

  • SGVsBest

    Dennis Smith-
    .
    You are so right Sir!
    .
What’s the big deal? I mean they left East L.A for La Puente? That not exactly moving on up! Is it? Well, maybe if your from East L.A.
    .
    What’s the big deal?
    .

  • Back Atcha

They probably moved out of East LA to another community and SEND their kids to school in La Puente. You can do that if you don’t flip tires for a living! Asking why play Garfield is like asking why play Charter Oak, Glendora, Damien, West Covina, Diamond Ranch, etc. Check their record vs the Lancers over the last 6 years – in Amat’s so-called “mediocre” years. The rest of the SGV has yet to win a game vs the Lancers in that time.So about those other SGV teams – “They have no team to speak of.” Amat plays them because “I suspect they just want to get noticed;because no one really cares.”

  • Sierra is in Trouble

    C.O. You Know! said,

“So kick back and enjoy the ride because Charter Oak may get beat at first but once they figure out the lay of the land I guarantee you they will make some noise. Think about it. Big Lou already has rattled your cage and is probably someplace LHAO!”

BASED ON WHAT HISTORY MAN? BARELY BEATING DIAMOND RANCH 2X? GETTING SCHOOLED BY BA 2X? NEVER SCHEDULING A PAC-5 POWERHOUSE? CHARTER OAK HAS DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO PREPARE THEIR FOOTBALL PROGRAM FOR BIGGER AND BETTER THINGS. BUT HELL! DON’T TAKE MY WORDS FOR IT TAKES THESE INSTEAD….

Big Lou (CO Coach Lou Farrar on moving to the Inland D-2)

“”It’s a double whammy for us,” Charter Oak coach Lou Farrar said of the league and division switch. “It’s like a left and right hook, then maybe a little punch to the gut because if you get into the playoffs you get to go two hours to get your butt kicked and go home. But they think it will be good for CIF.”

WHY IS COACH LOU SO UPSET? PROBABLY BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE WILL NEVER SEE AN INLAND DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. NO PROGRAM FROM THE SIERRA CAN HANG WITH CORONA CENTENNIAL, REDLANDS EAST VALLEY AND NORCO. EVEN THE CRAPPY TEAMS FROM THEIR LEAGUES HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE PLAYING CORONA CENTENNIAL, REDLANDS EAST VALLEY AND NORCO. COACH LOU AVOIDED HIGH POWER COMPETITION HIS ENTIRE COACHING CAREER AND NOW HE’S PANICKING.

  • THE WEATHER IS WARMING UP

Well you can tell the weather is getting warmer. The old troll is coming out from under his bridge( no pun intended) to sun himself. I would bet dollars to donuts this idiots roots are firmly planted in ELA . Come on sgvstroll fees up , where you from ese.

  • TENGO ALGO POR TU OJETE WHEY

    sgvsbum,
Just as I tought . You can’t even think for yourself . Now you have to resort to Hags words for your answer . Can’t you for once give a reply in your own words on a different subject or is it just your lifes work to try to feed that jealous rage you have towards Amat. Either way Hag’s words are far better then Lou’s take a 2 hour ride to your butt kicked and then go home. Great motivational words from a head coach.

  • tex6now

man i thought amat competes against good teams.

  • BAHS

Amat Family – Ignore the posts, hell don’t even read them. Soon as you see the name just move on. When you acknowledge the posts, he just comes back. Let him post for his own entertainment. If he never gets an answer he usually goes to another thread. Trust me it works. Most of the regular posters and Amat faithful already know the drill so save yourself the frustration and ignore the village idiot.

  • Trolling for drama

BAHS “words of wisdom” for sure.

Trolling for drama…that’s his calling card.

  • tex6now

Look everyone, Bishop Amat knows what they have to do to get student athletes back into their school. Amat will not play teams like Cor. Centennial, Norco, Chaparral, Oak Christians, Mater Dei, Servite, or De La Salle. Loom at the teams they are playing next year. 4 of 5 teams are in the location of the student that attend bishop amat. It’s a about the recruiting. Amat has schedule much tougher teams in the past, but Amat kind of struggled. Losing to O.Lu, Los Oso, Valencia, Vista, Carson and Hart both back back years. Don’t dis credit Mike DiFiori and Mark Verti for having the balls to play against better teams. Knowing that there league (old Serra) is the toughest league in the nation, they still schedule very good competition. and the last thing about the hole Charter Oak, Amat played C.O. and destroyed Charter Oak. 28-0 and 35-7. Charter Oak score 1 TD in the attempts.

  • just sayin’

tex6now – you’re all over the place & not sure what you’re saying, but let me straighten you out on a few things. First, you say”Amat will not play teams like Cor. Centennial, Norco, Chaparral, Oak Christians, Mater Dei, Servite, or De La Salle” and “Amat has schedule much tougher teams in the past, but Amat kind of struggled. Losing to O.Lu, Los Oso”etc, etc, blah, blah, blah”
The last two years Amat has beaten OLU, St Bonaventure and Mater Dei. Bonnies might as well be Oaks Mater Dei beat Centennial & Centennial beat Chapparrel who beat Murrietta who beat Norco – so they’re all the same.
The present Serra league w/Amat,Notre Dame, Crespi, and Loyola was ranjed last season as a tougher league than the Trinity , with Mater Dei, Olu, etc
If you read Joe Amat’s post at the bottom – it looks like a tough schedule that makes sense. For sure tougher than anyone else in the SGV.
Your last comment is correct – but not sure what it proves – goes against the grain of the rest of your argument.”The hole Charter Oak, Amat played C.O. and destroyed Charter Oak. 28-0 and 35-7″ And the last two years Amat destroyed the other SGV schools that wanted to schedule them after CO backed out. What’s your point?

  • AMAT 73

    tex6now,
Don’t be too suprised when you see some of those IE teams on our schedule in the near future. There is a method to Hags scheduling and I know you can see it. As you can see we are getting back to what the Faithful are used to seeing as far as AMAT football. We take a lot of heat from the locals but as you can see we only have one local school on our schedule so what does that say about them. Another point is the teams we are playing are playoff teams or have been in recent years in their own divisons so its not like we are playing door mats .

  • SGVsBest

    .
BAHS – Can’t ignore me little man. You know I’m right and that’s why I get under your skin!!!

    .
    Winning takes care of everything!
    .
What are you gonna do in 2010? NOTHING! How are you gonna win in October Amnot? You don’t have any answers because you know I’m right! You have No Defense!!! No Quarterback!!!
    .
C’mon let me here it! Answer my questions? How you gonna win in October?
    .
    I dare you!
    .

  • DON’T WORRY ABOUT US BABY

    sgvsbestturd,
Don’t worry about Amat just worry about those long 2 hour bus rides home sitting on a sore ass after getting it kicked by the ie boys, if you happen to make the playoffs . And that is a big if , just ask Lou and Gano.

You got the answers for October, old man?
    .
    Let here you esssplain it!
    .

  • keep it up

It is just funny to see how desperate this idiot is posting repeatedly trying to get someone to respond to his stupidity. BAHS hit it right on the head, if you just ignore this dumb azz he will finally realize that he’s only talking to himself. Notice how he’s talking like the little immature piece of sh*t that he is and daring people. Next comes come ok I double dare you. Just for anyone that care, some of these ELA folks that send their kids to la puente can buy and sell a lot of these loud mouths. The reason they send their kids there is because they don’t change flats for a living and can afford it. Good advise is to just ignore these fools and let them babble on to them selves.

  • SGVsBest

    Exactly!
    .
    No answers to October!
    .
Go ahead keep hugging each other in September! OCTOBER IS 7 MONTHS AWAY!

The Lancers will face every season just as the did the last two. Questions abounded when Hags stepped in and there was no QB. Enter the baseball player Jerry Mac at QB. Graduation losses added questions to the 2nd year. Here were some quotes entering next year.

“With the departures of so many talented players and the unforgiving schedule, this could be the Lancers’ highest ranking of the season. Face it, coach Steve Hagerty over-achieved in his first season, leading the Lancers to the playoffs and a near monumental first-round upset over Long Beach Poly before falling in the final minutes.
Gone are defensive gems Sheldon Price, Brent Seals, Isaiah Bowens and running back Deshawn Gaisie.” – Fred Robledo

“I’ve had a chance to see Bishop Amat plenty through the summer and here’s the deal…their is not a win to be found in the league schedule with the talent that Amat is fielding. SO Notre Dame is just as good this year as they were last year (and we all know BA fans how that went last year). Crespi has one of their best teams in years and Loyola is absolutely stacked this year. And when you fact in that St. Bonaventure could have a team that is better than last year’s squad; the wins become hard to find on the schedule for the talent that BA is fielding this year. We mentioned it back in the winter and it bears repeating; if BA gets four wins this year, Steve Hagerty should get Coach of the Year.” – The Scouting Guru

“”We’ll have to answer that challenge, what more is there to say,” Hagerty said. “We know that you can’t expect to beat teams (in a shootout) week in and week out. You might get away with that once or twice, but not over the course of a season. So, a lot of guys have to step up and assume that responsibility. A lot of times it’s just effort, confidence and belief. Regardless of who we lost (on defense), I always think we can get better.”” – Steve Hagerty

“That’s a lot of confidence for a coach that loses defensive standouts Sheldon Price, Isaiah Bowens, Brent Seals, running back Deshawn Gaisie and depth on both sides of the ball.’-Fred Robledo

I think they answered that challenge. That’s all you can do every year. Sort of like Charter Oak losing all of their firepower and moving up in leagues and divisions. You just move forward and prepare. Good luck to all as they replace their losses with furture stars.

  • Bosshawg

I’m not an Amat hater. But I am weary of the incessant blather of how great the Lancers are. While they are a good local team, the reality is they are a mediocre team on the national level. A number of years ago, I believe they were ranked nationally, but haven’t been at that level in awhile. When a team has the ability to draw the best players from a huge demographic like Amat, they SHOULD in fact, be awesome! But over the past few years, they would have been beaten by no less that 200 public schools from around the country. So….be happy you win a majority of your games, and occasionally a playoff game. But for the love of ……..! Please dial your “we’re all that” rhetoric back a notch!

  • Beauregard Duke

Bosshawg – Last season Bishop Amat was the League Champion of the 4th best league in the 3rd best Division _in the country_ and was ranked 101 in the Nation by CalPreps/MaxPreps – public or private. Their ranking was #17 in California (public or private), #12 in all Divisions of the Southern Section, #5 in the Pac5 and #5 in Southern California’s Division2 – and of course #1 in the SGV.
Now find me ONE example of anyone on here stating anything resembling “”we’re all that”, besides any actual facts, much less “incessant blather”. I bet far less than the number of “Amat haters’ that you claim not to be. Remember Bill Parcells once said, “You are what your record says you are”. The rankings above are a result of a teams record, their opponents record, and their opponents opponents record. Id say they are what their ranking says they are.
Now go chase those dadgum Duke boys!

  • Let’s start a BA COUNTER…HATERS VS BRAGGARDS

Wouldn’t it be clever to have a Amat Hater Counter and a Amat Bragging Counter.

Let’s break it down by frequency and by actual individuals. MOst haters will be surprised it’s all on them.

What’s hilarious about this most Amat haters, or really any hater when you think about it, is this over powering “need” to take it upon themselves to “put (fill in the blank) in their place!” It’s always an over powering “need” to stop someone from making any comment that trumps the hater’s own life. No wonder Sheldon Price got so much flank and then started for UCLA his freshman year…”because he sucked!!” I wonder where all those bashesr are now….and how many are actually UCLA fans still.

Same goes for those that question BA schedule yet never acknowledge the teams that play BA while conveniently avoiding their own team’s lack of being the “Garfields and Cathedrals of the world” and seeking tougher than Fish Bowl competition.

Same goes for Amat’s “never gonna smell a Championship” talk yet somehow forget to address Gano, Boagn and Farrar’s comments about “double whammies” and “long rides home after getting your butts kicked”…I almost feel out of my chair hearing all those coaches make comments that would be laughed out of any Pac 5 coaching meeting.

The Fish Bowl has been dumped in the Ocean and everyone will see how tough BA has had it for years playing bigger, faster, stronger teams and competing to the bets of their ability. 10-2 and Hagerty doesn’t win Coach of the Year…that’s just plain S.T.U.P.I.D.!!!

No one needs to brag about Amat. Their history comes in the door before anyone looks at the players individually. Those that believe Amat’s best days are behind them only need to ask last year’s opponents who are still scratching their heads wondering how and why?

Saying that coach Hag has been successful everywhere he has been! Not worried bout BA putting good teams on the feild again! Four years from now this thread will be a joke. Charter Oak, and Glendora, welcome to the big league inland division! Will love to see how these teams match up with the norcos, cor.
